1902ish Building. Two bedrooms & very roomy. Oozes class. Everything works Great. Switches & Timers on Demand Hot Water a little confusing but we figured it out. It was (as normal) in the 50s (F) teens (C) & rainy & windy. Utilities in Scotland are high so don’t expect instant indoor climate change. The room heat is high efficiency electric radiators so remember that not only the air must warm, so must the walls furniture, beds etc. before indoor life changes. Timers shut it down in 3 hours or so. Mobility challenged Folks beware. There are 3-4 flights of stairs (depending on how you count long flights) so carrying 50 pound (25 Kg) suitcases up was a challenge for this old guy. There’s no way to say this nice, but parking sucks. During heavy tourist season parking on the street was hard to find between 1800-0900 (when it is free of cost) and limited to either two or four hours between 0900-1800. We found a private lot about 4-5 blocks away (18 pound for 24 hours) when we toured Iona for the day, but close to the door spots are hit & miss. We finally figured the routine: leave before 0900, stay out, and come back after 1430 and you can stretch the street paid spot times till next morning for minimal cost. Of course the locals & savvy tourists already know this so competition & parallel parking in heavy one-way traffic is fierce. Plenty of good cafes & bars (with food) around. Prices for eat out about the same as in the states. Farm-Something small grocery store a block away had great selection of frozen eats cheap. So why all fives (5s)? Because if we wanted everything like back home why come here? The friendliest people you’ll ever meet, awesome country, and 2000 years of USA history. And a great apartment! In the middle of town. Just remember, to paraphrase, this ain’t Kansas no more Toto!
