On a private country road near the tiny hamlet of Duncton, Woodland Cottage is a detached holiday home for couples, walkers and solo travellers looking for a luxurious retreat in the South Downs near Petworth and Chichester, West Sussex.

A wonderful place for a relaxing holiday

We made a very last minute booking for a short break here, and it was perfect. The cottage itself is well equipped, spacious, warm, and very comfortable. We loved sitting on the bench enjoying the pond, and took several walks in the private woods, which are more extensive than we'd expected. The random objets d'art in the woods are great fun! There are plenty of walks from the front door and we enjoyed the rolling countryside and autumnal leaves. The pub at the end of the lane is a very short walk from the cottage and we enjoyed several meals there, plus brunch one day.
Lucie and David were very friendly and welcoming, yet unobtrusive.
We stayed in the area so we could visit relatives and after a busy day of visits the cottage was the perfect retreat! Highly recommended. And don't be deceived by the photo showing a fence through the French doors - the space between the doors and the fence is bigger than it looks and you'll be looking at the view over the pond from the other French doors anyway! Woodland Cottage is on our list of places we'd happily return to in the future.

My wife and I were looking for a place to stay within easy reach of Goodwood race circuit, and to explore West Sussex. Woodland Cottage was in a perfect location for our needs. The cottage itself was immaculate, although the pale carpets were slightly scary as we didn't want to stain them. The cottage was bright, spacious and warm, with everything we needed for a two week stay. The setting is spectacular, with a view across a small lake, and access to the owners' private woodland. It is well located for access to many of the attractions of West Sussex so provides an ideal base.

NL: Prachtig gelegen Cottage. Zeer ruim. Vriendelijke eigenaren.

GB: Beautifully located Cottage. Very spacious. Friendly owners. Everything was present in the house. Nothing was missing. House very quietly located, with every morning a morning concert of many birds.
Top visits: Beachy Head, Bo Peep, Wakehurst, Sculpture Garden Churt, Winchester, Itchen Stoke church, "sistine chapel" in Goring-by-Sea, Brighton (Pavillion!), Bracklesham Bay, Alum Bay on the Isle of Wight, Kingley Vale and of course the bluebells in Selhurst Park. Overall, a fantastic place, fantastic house, fantastic holiday.

It was ideal, perfect for the holiday we needed. The owners were very friendly. It was the best holiday cottage we have stayed in, for location as well as comfort.
