A stunning five bedroom, three bathroom Georgian Farmhouse ideally located near to local wedding venues, Hadrian’s Wall and the Northumberland National Park. The Farmhouse is set within 10 acres of the Shellbraes smallholding and is ideal for family get togethers or larger groups wanting wedding, shooting and fishing accommodation.

This is the second year our family have stayed at Shellbraes, occupying both farmhouse and studio, for our family Christmas in February.
The house is warm and well equipped. The playroom and toys were very welcome for our grandchildren aged from 8-2 years.
An excellent venue in a beautiful position. We hope to return next year.

I would have reviewed Shellbraes 5 for all scores but compared to our stay at Hollin House another Woodenstar accommodation it wasn't as good. I booked the farmhouse for my 70th birthday with the family and we had an amazing week celebrating the occasion. We did have to call Sam on the Thursday as there was a power cut due to the bad weather which momentarily tripped the mains and we couldn't find the fusebox feeding the kitchen. Sam talked us through where the fusebox was located outside in the boiler house and we got the problem sorted.
It's not a complaint but I would like to point out for others to see that the oven is small and doesn't accommodate when preparing food for a large party like ours was (8 adults and 2 children) and the heating is not throughout the farmhouse. Upstairs where the bedrooms and bathrooms are was cold. My wife and I took the master bedroom which is huge but extremely cold and although two electric heaters were found the upstairs was particularly cold at this time of year.
Top tip is there is great walks in this area, it's a short walk to Great Whittington and the drive to Hexham is only 15 mins which definitely worth a visit.

We really enjoyed our stay here, the place is stunning and the views are outstanding. We definitely would come back for a longer stay.
The only thing was there was lots of dust/ cobwebs etc around the house. However the house is quite big so must be hard to clean everywhere in between stays.

Fantastic two-family stay in old country farmhouse. Plenty of space, 5 bedrooms, huge lounge, all filled with good quality classic furniture.

Nice welcome pack left for us with treats. Nespresso coffee machine with pods supplied. Lovely wood burning stove fire in lounge (note - could have done with more logs to be honest).

Owners contacts were prompt and helpful, but left us to our own thing. Piano in lounge with invitation to play was a lovely touch.

The only thing was the boiler did not work on the Thursday to Friday. They did tell us how to sort it but. It was very frustrating

Shellbraes farmhouse is such a beautiful property set in such a beautiful area of Northumberland with beautiful views. The character of the farmhouse is just breathtaking. Everyone loved the farmhouse including me and my now husband. We hired the farmhouse and the studio for 3 nights and we could have stayed so much longer and we will definitely be back one day with our family and dog. Highly recommended this beautiful accomodation. And it's absolutely perfect for getting ready for your wedding too.

A wonderful farmhouse in the Northumberland countryside with a fantastic view. We stayed for a family wedding, it is well equipped with everything a family or group of friends need, a luxurious home from home.

We had a fantastic stay with our family to celebrate the week after getting married, the Farmhouse is so beautiful and huge! So much space for us all to relax, the bedrooms are cosy and well decorated and the beds are really comfortable. It is a bit out of the way on a single track road but it was only 15 minutes to the local town with lots of amenities. We would definitely come back to stay again.

I booked this cottage for a group of friends. It is set in a beautiful location, the cottage is very clean, spacious and furnished to a high standard. We also booked the studio which adjoins the cottage and it was a perfect retreat from the main house. The home owners were also very attentive and welcoming. I would recommend this house and book it again.

We had a fantastic time staying at this beautiful farmhouse. We had three young children with us and it felt totally safe and the games room was fantastic and kept them entertained! The garden area out the front was a delight, with a wonderful view and completely fenced in, again making it safe for the children. The welcome pack was lovely and just what we needed after a long drive before our order came. Everything was spotless and the house was lovely and spacious for so many adults! We will definitely look to return!

We stayed during on wedding (Thursday-Saturday). Everyone was super shocked and overwhelmed by how beautiful and welcoming the house was. It was breathtaking with the surrounding fields- filled with lambs etc. The inside of the house made everyone feel at home and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay to celebrate our big day! We can’t thank them enough.

We had an amazing week with all our family. We were a party of 6 adults and 5 children plus a baby and there was plenty of room for us all. (With an extra couple staying in the studio) Northumberland is amazing with so much to see but the farmhouse is quite a good drive from most places in quite a remote location.

We couldn't fault our stay at Shellbraes Farmhouse and it was perfect in every way. The farmhouse is so spacious and all of the rooms are comfortable. The farmhouse is easy to find, not far from amenities and it's in a quiet and beautiful part of the countryside. We booked the farmhouse for a large group and they all raved about how good the property is. Sam and Vicky are the most welcoming hosts and Wooden Star Cottages did a fantastic job to make us feel comfortable in their home.

Shellbraes farm house was just amazing! The pictures don’t do it justice at all… and they are beautiful!
We rented out the property for two nights for my Dad’s 70th Birthday celebrations. My Dad absolutely loved it and Sam & Vicky had very kindly left him some gifts which he loved and thought was a really lovely personal touch.
The master bedroom is stunning, with gorgeous views and a large bathroom and a separate walk in wardrobe area.
There are 4 other beautifully decorated bedrooms which was perfect for our family to all have their own space.
The kitchen has everything you need in to cook, which we did both on the Friday and Saturday night. We relaxed in the large living room with the cozy log burner on, and a large basket of logs were provided which was great. We planned to head out a bit further afield on the Saturday but the area is just so nice and peaceful, we just stayed there and explored one of the local walks. A lovely couple who rent the field in front of the Farmhouse called us over to meet their friendly sheep which my nieces were delighted at! On the day of check out, we headed to the Angel of Corbridge for lunch on recommendation from the welcome booklet which was a really lovely way to end a fabulous weekend. Thank you again both for everything and for helping us to make my Dad's Birthday so special. We will absolutely recommend the Farmhouse to our friends and wouldn't hesitate to return to this gorgeous place!

Shellbraes Farmhouse was the perfect accommodation for our family get together. In fact we have used it twice now.
The farmhouse provided plenty of space for the family to be together or separate for a bit of down time.
The round table in the dinning area was perfect for our evening meals.
Very comfy sofas and beds with lovely bedding and towels.
A well stocked kitchen for all our meals and a family friendly dishwasher that didn't let us down!!
Sam, our customer contact was both helpful and friendly.

Impressed with the service from Wooden Star, the house/home and location. The beds were very comfortable, quality crisp linen, thick fluffy white towels, all very much appreciated. Enchanting house and suited my family (10 plus a baby) perfectly, we didn’t want to leave. The children enjoyed the playroom and games of hide and seek, the kitchen was the hub for us, so much space!

We rented the studio and farmhouse for a large family gathering, ages from 70 to 2 years.
The building is in a beautiful setting with walks from the door,which suited our dog, and plenty of space for children to play. The walk across the fields to Great Whittington and the Queens Head pub was particularly enjoyed.
Shelbraes is attractively decorated, well equipped (with plenty of children's toys and games) and very comfortable and spacious. It is suitable for all ages!
We had a wonderful stay.

We had a lovely stay at Shellbraes. Communication leading up to and during was excellent - and even afterwards Sam & Vicky were very kind in getting 2 small toys returned to us which my nephew had left behind! The cottage is large and suited our needs, bedrooms all a good size having been recently renovate, bathrooms were great, beds very comfy. Living area was spacious & kitchen had all the things we needed. It was a great place to spend a family Christmas away from home. The Christmas tree in the hallway was a really nice touch. The things we felt could have been improved: a bigger fridge in the kitchen, (there is another small one in the utility room, but still not big enough for a cottage that sleeps 10 for 3 days), the oven needs replacing - it takes an age to heat and doesn’t get to temperature (trying to cooking Christmas dinner was a challenge!) - it was also really dirty. The dishwasher could do with a service as it didn’t clean dishes. Also important to note, we had no idea the Aga wasn’t in use - we assumed it was as it features in all the pictures and it wasn’t explicit in the advert so if you’re hoping to cook for 10+ people on it; you won’t be able to!

This was the third time we've stayed at Shellbreas, and it was another stay that didn't dissapoint. The location is fantastic, the house beautiful, comfortable and homely. The perfect size for a family gathering including the studio.
