There were three generations of us staying at the church to celebrate a 40th birthday so ranging in age from 8 months to 73 years. The facilities provided were excellent, the kitchen was well equipped and enormous! It was nice having the seating areas upstairs as well as downstairs because while we were cooking and preparing meals everyone could be involved. It was also very easy to communicate with anyone downstairs because the mezzanine was open at either end. The bedrooms were very comfortable, clean and cosy and we all slept well. For such a big open space the heating kept it lovel...more
We hired Hexham house as a family. We had exclusive use of the 7 apartments. All apartments were beautiful & individual. We particularly appreciated the goody bag with local produce & the milk & Prosecco left in the fridge. Hexham House is in a fabulous location right in the centre of Hexham with bars shops & restaurants on the doorstep. We would highly recommend & will definitely be back in the future.

We booked Weat Grange Hall to celebrate my 50th birthday with family, it couldn’t have been a more perfect venue. Fully equipped for large parties and a stunning property to boot, with excellent customer service from Wooden Star Cottages team. We will definitely be back (but hopefully for a longer stay).
The Treehouse is wonderful, in the middle of the countryside, yet only 15 minutes from a host of interesting places including Hexham, Corbridge and Hadrians Wall. Very spacious for accommodation designed for 2 with lots of places both inside and outside to relax. It’s comfortable, luxurious and well equipped and it’s great to be surrounded by so much nature, we spent most evenings watching the hares running about in the fields! It’s fabulous and I wouldn’t hesitate to go there again.
Lovely big room , comfortable furnished, great views across the grounds....everything you could need. Would highly recommend.
It's truly difficult to put into words how incredible our stay at Beaufront was. We spent the easter break there to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday with our three children, their and partners and six grandchildren and were blessed with glorious weather. Sam from Wooden Star could not have been more helpful ensuring that we had cots and highchairs, allowing us to arrive early and leave late and being in regular touch to ensure that our stay was as enjoyable as possible. This was much appreciated with 6 children under 10 who by the way enjoyed the best easter egg hunt ever in the castle ...more
A very pleasant visit to meet with family, super location, although a little hairy to park a4x4 in the space provided! Only downside, (which didn’t apply to the two of us), was that dining table and kitchen cutlery seemed to be for 4?
This was our third visit to Fieldhead and already booked our fourth. We love the surroundings, the private swimming lake and private feel. Our dog Enzo loves the garden and the walks and curling up infront of the fire. See you in November :)
Our second visit and as good as the first. Great facilities with a room and en-suite each and plenty of room for socialising, cooking and eating together. Couple of points: The downstairs toilet in Steadings 2 doesn’t flush properly. Heaters in The Byers 1 & 2 need attention as not all were working. Mirrors in bedrooms for hair drying etc would be helpful. We loved it again. And we even got the dark skies too!
Lovely, comfortable, clean and warm cottage in rural location. The (very) nearby Boe Rigg campsite and restaurant was closed which was great from a light pollution perspective. A large patio area to set up the telescope on and great dark skys. Super customer service from Wooden Star Cottages.
Fantastic stay in Apartment Six. Excellent, comfortable and very clean accommodation with everything you could need for a relaxed stay. Even the entrance and hallway to the apartment is warm welcoming and clean! Would highly recommend both Hexham House and beautiful Northumberland.
We stayed in this cottage with our friends and everything was perfect. The location is quiet, the house os spacious and clean. We had everything we needed in the cottage.
Perfect cosy flat for exploring Hadrian's Wall, Hexham and Newcastle. This is an ideal base from which to walk Hadrian's Wall from Carlisle to Newcastle using public transport (buses and trains) to get to/from start/end points each day. The accommodation is clean, tidy and had all we needed, providing the option to either eat in or at one of the many excellent Hexham pubs and restaurants, literally on the doorstep. And less than 5 minutes from the excellent Hexham Sourdough bakery! Loved our week in Apartment 2!
The pre stay information email and the quality of the apartment was excellent. It is always first class with Wooden Star Cottages.
Everything required for a comfortable stay. Even a slow cooker, and set of kitchen scales so I was able to do some baking.
Well appointed apartment with everything we needed. The pictures do not do it justice it was extremely comfortable and immaculately clean . Thank you for a lovely stay we will certainly recommend it.
We have stayed at Hexham House several times. Its location and standard of comfort suit us perfectly. This time we booked flat 5 which we really loved - it had beautiful views overlooking the Abbey and gardens and the layout of the kitchen/ living area was perfect.
It was our second visit. We first visited at the end of March and absolutely fell in love with this place. It honestly couldn’t have been more perfect. The location is amazing and makes a perfect base for exploring Northumberland and all the beautiful places nearby. The Byres themselves are fantastic – very comfortable, beautifully done, and have everything you need, including a bedroom, ensuite bathroom, and a lovely living room with kitchen area. The kitchen is very well equipped and has everything needed for cooking, which made the stay even easier and more enjoyable. We also loved that ...more
We had a wonderful stay at the Steadings. The interlinked houses were absolutely brilliant and made it so easy to bring both families together while still having our own space. The setup was perfect for spending quality time together, and everything was comfortable and well thought out. Highly recommended for families looking to stay close and make great memories.
El proceso de check-in es muy sencillo. Cuando entras en el edificio te encuentras que está todo muy limpio y muy bien cuidado. El apartamento está totalmente equipado y todo está muy nuevo. Ha sido una estancia muy muy agradable.
Most comfortable cottage. Lovely beds, sweet sitting room, large, flexible kitchen. Great location for exploring the area.
These cottages and the barn were perfect for our wedding. Sam and Vicky were brilliant in helping us with our queries and we were delighted with how it all went in the day. It is in a beautiful location and all of the rooms and surrounding outdoor spaces were perfect for us and our guests.
We had the most lovely time at Drum Barn. The property felt so homely and friendly that we really didn't want to leave. Thank you so much for the thoughtful goodie bag - very kind and extremely useful. The countryside is just stunning and we'll certainly be back. Thanks again for everything. Best regards - Karen Hobbs
The Coach House is an excellent property and was ideally located for exploring inland Northumberland. The house is really well appointed and tastefully decorated. Rooms are very spacious, all beds were comfortable and the living areas were perfect for relaxing at the end of the day. We would highly recommend the property.
Well presented accommodation providing everything needed for a short stay. Very comfortable bed. Would stay again.
Very good value for money stay , had problem with heating not working when arrived was given small heater overnight and was fixed the next day. Was told would be compensated but weren't. Accomodation is lovely, quiet location which is what we were looking for!
This is one of the best places I’ve stayed. It was in a stunning location and so close to Kielder Water. The cost for the weekend was so reasonable and the cottage had everything for a short stay. It was also practical for the dog as well (no carpets!) especially after the 28 mile walk! The distance to Bellingham was also convenient and there were plenty of places to eat in a short driving distance. On a side note, just be mindful that if you have a dog some pubs are not dog friendly and the opening times on weekdays are from 4pm. Worth doing a bit of research before going. Would defini...more
This was our second stay at Shellbraes, and won't be our last. It is a truly lovely farmhouse, very well equipped and very comfortable. The beds are amazing, with top quality bedding. There is lots to do in the local area, with some fabulous walks also. I highly recommend Shellbraes for a get together with friends or family.
An excellent property in a lovely location. Very peaceful and quiet with great views all round. Charlton Gate had everything we needed for a week away with our dog. Lots to see and do around Kielder but there are also other woodland and riverside walks within a few minutes drive of the cottage. We will definitely be looking for a chance to stay here again.
We stayed at Bastle House for a short break. The property is unique and has been sustainably renovated in keeping with its history. It was extremely clean and well appointed. The location is perfect for Hexham, Corbridge and Newcastle. The downside was the bedroom which has little in the way of window coverage so if you need a dark room in which to sleep this is not for you (eye masks were provided but these are not for everybody)
We loved everything about The Hayloft. It was perfect for our stay as a family with all the home comforts we were looking for and with the open spaces and area around the property a real bonus for the younger ones. The compromise is having to drive into town but you have everything on your doorstep and the house is perfectly located for visiting so many places in Northumberland. Having used the business before in Hexham, we were again not disappointed in the least. The management of the properties is excellent and I cannot fault the communication and ease of booking. We would return without h...more
The cottage had everything needed for our short three night break. Really good information provided from agent before, during, and after our stay. All three bedrooms are ensuite which is a real bonus and hard to find, perfect find for three adult family couples. Setting is very green, although a bit remote. Need a car to reach amenities but short drive to some shops and pubs. Close to Kielder which is a good day out. One small annoyance was the early rise of the cockerels each morning. Overall a lovely stay in a lovely cottage at a great price.
What a gorgeous cottage! It’s super spacious and decorated so nicely. The hot tub and sauna are a great addition to the lovely garden and the location is perfect for getting into the national park or to the coast!
