We stayed here for our daughter’s wedding in Jesmond Parish church and then the reception at Vallum Farm and it was perfect! The back room was ideal for preparing flowers. The kitchen was well equipped and seating area spacious and comfortable for informal meals for 8 or more. The round dining table was similarly lovely for more formal meals for 10. Hired the whole house for a wedding group. It was a perfect location for all bridesmaids to get ready. The apartments were immaculate. Communication was excellent and all the information to gain entry was superb. Welcome packs were a bonus. Couldn't have wished for anything better.
This must be about the 7th time we have stayed in the beautiful Georgian Hexham House. Set in the park the luxury apartments are very comfortable with everything you need for your stay. Set in the park the apartments are perfect for visiting, on foot, all the super eateries and bars in Hexham. Surrounded by the stunning Northumberland countryside there are so many scenic villages within a short drive away with many wonderful pubs and cafes. Thank you Wooden Star for a super stay at Hexham House, we'll definitely be back!
Fieldhead was perfect, such a beautiful location and home to stay in. No problems at the property, any issues or help needed they are just a call or msg away. Our new favourite place to stay, will definatley be back. Thank yiu5
Amazing and special place to stay! Celebrated my birthday here with my family, couldn’t have asked for a better place. The management team were so helpful and accommodating. The castle was very well equipped. Lovely walk to an amazing pub the Rat Inn. We will hopefully be back again. Thanks David and Family
The house was as beautiful as the photos suggested. The facilities were excellent and we had everything that we needed for a wonderful stay. The quiet and beauty of the area were spectacular and we really felt that we were surrounded by nature, birdsong and a wildness that we rarely encounter in the busy south. Thank you to the owners for allowing us to use this historic property.
Our second visit and as good as the first. Great facilities with a room and en-suite each and plenty of room for socialising, cooking and eating together. Couple of points: The downstairs toilet in Steadings 2 doesn’t flush properly. Heaters in The Byers 1 & 2 need attention as not all were working. Mirrors in bedrooms for hair drying etc would be helpful. We loved it again. And we even got the dark skies too!
We enjoyed our stay. The apartment is in a great location, a few minutes walk from restaurants and shops, but also very quiet. Hexham is an ideal base for exploring a lot of the key attractions nearby like Hadrian’s Wall and the national park. It was very clean and had everything we needed. We appreciated the dishwasher and freezer. The rooms were slightly smaller than we expected from the photos but were still fine. The parking round the corner at the Abbey was convenient. We appreciated the welcome gifts of shortbread, tea & coffee. We’d stay here again if visiting the area.
The apartment matched the description. The location gave us easy access to the gardens and town centre etc. We used the buses for a visit to Newcastle to see the bridges over The Tyne, and had a lovely day in Corbridge. The parking permit was useful and the bedroom beong at the back was quiet.
Seal Cottage is a very lovely home for a family holiday. From the windows you can relax looking at big trees, roses, hydrangeas and other flowers. A warm atmosphere embraces you after a tour around the region. In few seconds you can enjoy the peaceful Sele Park and the delightful town centre of Hexham. Shops, marketplace and pubs are at hand. Seal Cottage is a perfect location for visiting Northumberland, Cumbria and County Durham.
Very peaceful location and clean, comfortable cottage. Relatively small space but the high ceilings make it feel roomy. Communication was excellent with very good information in advance and easy access from the key box. On site pub/restaurant is really good too.
Beautiful apartment. Fantastic location. Sam and Vicky are very kind and helpful. The kitchen area does not have much workspace- minor detail. I have stayed in several of these apartments and keep coming back.

We found Apartment 1- Hexham House, to be clean, spacious and very well-equipped. “Welcome Treats” and thoughtful extras, such as tea, coffee and milk, were very much appreciated. Excellent location in Hexham and with public transport a few minutes’ walk away, meant we were able to arrive by train and explore surrounding areas, including Vindolanda and Corbridge, without a car. Helpful information was provided digitally pre-visit and additional queries were answered quickly. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to either return or recommend to anyone.
Everything was great with the apartment, and the service provided by Sam and Vicky was very prompt. We greatly appreciated the Prosecco, the biscuits, tea, coffee and milk in the welcome basket. The rooms were spotless and the bed was very comfortable. The directions to reach Hexham House and the parking spot were clear and easy to follow. The only improvement we would like to suggest is that the blinds in the bedroom could be replaced with black-out blinds that cut out the morning light properly. We enjoyed staying with extended family at the Steadings (No 1 & 2). They are spacious and in a good location. Minor niggles include no light bulbs in exterior lights at No 1, loose fitting kitchen tap in 2, no washing machine tablets, hairdryer (No 1) not found until we left, limited kitchen utensils, 2 loose loo seats. All of thee things could be fixed easily to earn a 5 rating overall.
We booked two houses for a family trip for my 40th birthday. Both houses were lovely. Acres of land for the dog and the kids to play. They had a trampoline and hot tub to keep them entertained. Great big fire pit for the adults. Owners live next door and very helpful if needed but also not over bearing letting us have our privacy. Great location. Hexham shops and park in driving distance. Plenty sofas, chairs and dining areas for us to fit.
My sister and I, both 80 +, had never been this far north and wanted to see it in comfort. The cottage was lovely; well-equipped with tremendous beds We had a great time here and loved everything we experienced in the North ! We're both from south of London so it was quite an adventure to drive up country. Thank you Wooden Star Cottages.
Lovely area, very peaceful and the treehouse is very spacious, but sorry it not as luxurious as was on the pictures on the website. Just little things need addressing eg a handrail on the stairs to make it safer, also a hand rail on the step down from kitchen area into living area too as that quite a drop. Kitchen table and chairs look like from a charity shop and need replacing and no where to put your toiletries while having a shower. On a plus the bed was really comfy and the communication from company was good.
No. 1 can open into the next door cottage and both are super comfortable properties, ideal for a large family. Our itinerary was very full but also relaxed and the area is stunningly beautiful, nature at its best, a starry sky and meteors putting on a spectacular night time display.
We book a family weekend every year, this has been the best place we have been to. A lovely welcome pack, very clean and the hall had a very positive atmosphere. Sam and Vicky were on hand to help us. A great time thank you
Just returned from a wonderful 3 night stay at Rose Bowers. There was 13 of us staying in all 3 cottage’s/barns and I have to say we had the best time. All of the properties were amazing, clean, comfortable and everything we needed for our stay. We loved the central garden which was great for the 3 kids to play and the adults to relax. The hot tub was used every night and it was a great, just took a bit of work to get the temperature right. We all said we would happily return.
We stayed for 3 nights. Had a wonderful stay, all was as advertised. We had a slight issue, which was dealt with quickly, Sam keeping us up to date with issue and resolve. The bag of goodies and milk was a lovely touch. Very peaceful and quiet, (we stayed early July) we would consider returning, would definitely consider using Wooden Star in future.
We stayed at Drum Barn for my nieces wedding nearby. It was the perfect spot for two families to arrive and chill out after long journeys and is in the most spectacular location. The kids adored the trampolines and we all slept well. There is so much space for a big group and at the same time it feels cosy. We really enjoyed our stay, thank you.
A very well presented and clean cottage in beautiful countryside. We had everything we needed. Beds were firm and comfy. Customer service was excellent both during the booking and our stay. In a previous review I had noted there was a cockerel so took headphones and had no problem sleeping in in the mornings. I did find sound travelled between the two adjacent bedrooms and bathroom extractor fans were very noisy. But this was only disturbing the first night until we established a routine. I would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage. It was good value for the money.

Nice accommodation in a well converted byre. It had everything I needed, and I'm glad I remembered to bring my charging cable for my EV!
A spacious and rural church conversion - we had a lovely week catching up with the family here. So much space to do your own thing, so it suited us all. Kitchen and dining areas were the social hub, with music playing from the CDs supplied. Nearest big town for supplies was a bit of drive away, but found a lovely pub a few miles away in Greenhaugh. Close to the lake (which was quiet being off-season) and an exciting drive up into Scotland from there. We had a peaceful and relaxing stay, thank you!

Thee cottage was a lovely place to be in - cosy and yet surprisingly spacious. Really well equipped with everything I needed. I would recommend it. Customer service is a 4 rather than a 5 because the email with key code didn’t arrive however when I requested it by text it as a text it came and the email followed shortly after. All in all a great place to stay abd a positive experience. Thank you
What a fabulous stay we had at Shellbraes Farmhouse. I wanted somewhere beautiful to stay for my son's wedding and it didn't disappoint. Beautiful location with stunning, sweeping Northumberland countryside views . The house was wonderfully spacious for our guests who were all wowed by the property. It was very clean but also felt homely enough not to be too precious about it - we were able to fully relax. It was kitted out with everything we could need - a well stocked kitchen and utilities. An excellent property in a lovely location. Very peaceful and quiet with great views all round. Charlton Gate had everything we needed for a week away with our dog. Lots to see and do around Kielder but there are also other woodland and riverside walks within a few minutes drive of the cottage. We will definitely be looking for a chance to stay here again.
We stayed at Bastle House for a short break. The property is unique and has been sustainably renovated in keeping with its history. It was extremely clean and well appointed. The location is perfect for Hexham, Corbridge and Newcastle. The downside was the bedroom which has little in the way of window coverage so if you need a dark room in which to sleep this is not for you (eye masks were provided but these are not for everybody)
A completely private cottage tucked around the back of a hall, your own sauna and hot tub, private garden our dog was safe to explore, the sheets are the softest and the bathrooms wonderful. The kitchen is enormous and the cosy living room has an amazing fireplace where we toasted marshmallows. The view of horses roaming the fields was an added bonus. We loved our stay ❤️
