Southsyde holiday cottage at Hendersyde, is a traditional farm cottage, in a peaceful spot, with views over the Tweed Valley to The Cheviot Hills in Northumberland. Snuggling between West and East Cottages, Southsyde can sleep up to 4 people in two double bedrooms. We offer a couple's discount for 2 people sharing a bedroom, your dog is welcome too.

A truly relaxing stay.

We have just spent a very happy week at Southsyde. Even though we have been going for 24 years, there is always something new in the area to discover. This year we found the garden at Carolside, as well as the Heritage Centre at Town Yetholm. Sue and Henry are always working hard to make our stay so agreeable. The cottage is clean, warm and comfortable with lovely views. On arrival you are greeted with a tea tray with freshly baked shortbread : fresh eggs are on the side. This all combines to give a truly relaxed holiday.

Southsyde is such a superb location for exploring the Scottish Borders both inland and coastal. Attractive easy roads and countryside make this a unique experience as everything is on the doorstep ie Castles, Gardens, historic locations and Kelso itself being a welcoming warm hearted community. Do not miss the opportunity to explore via Hendersyde Cottages. We will be returning for our fifth occasion.

What did you particularly enjoy during your stay in The Borders?
Fantastic history, different locations and friendly people.

We have been coming for more than 15 years to the holiday cottage at Hendersyde. We love it: the quietness, the hospitality, the view. We have already booked for next year. Although we have come for so many years, every year we find something new to do in the area. We highly recommend this location.

What did you particularly enjoy during your stay in The Borders?
the mavelous vieuw over the fileds.

Once again, we all enjoyed our stay at Hendersyde Holiday Cottages. The lovely shortbread is a real treat and doesn't last!
The cottage suits our needs perfectly and the kitchen is well equipped & cosy and comfortable. We only used one bedroom and the bed was very comfy, the morning glance out of the bedroom the window was always fasinating: would there be sheep, hares & deer out in the fields?
The walks along the burn on a hot summer's day were wonderfully cooling and our old dog Annie loved it.

On a side note, I did miss having a (working) radio in the kitchen; I guess everyone has their own device now.

What did you particularly enjoy during your stay in The Borders?
Nature & wildlife

Always good to see you all! Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review, and for leaving the cottage so beautifully. You could add fox to your view of the Cottage Field this morning, without her cubs this time! I noticed the bedroom radio was in the kitchen after you had left, I'll double check it is working properly. All the best Sue

We have stayed at both of the two bedroom cottages several times, when Sue has had availability! It pays to book well ahead as those lucky folk who have found these peaceful gems return time and again. As would anyone who likes a peaceful stay in the rolling border countryside with great views and wildlife.
The nearby historic market town of Kelso, in the Tweed river valley, has lots to offer visitors from a stately castle, racecourse, good choice of shops and places to eat.
We come mainly to fish Scotland's top salmon river and Hendersyde cottages are perfectly located in the centre of the lower beats.
Sue is the perfect host always cheerful and full of helpful knowledge and advice. I am sure she would be immediately on hand if any problems occurred, we have not tested this as nothing has ever been a problem.

What did you particularly enjoy during your stay in The Borders?
Wildlife, River Tweed, Kelso town - cafes and shops

We had another lovely stay at Southsyde, along with our wee Border terrier. Sue was extremely welcoming, as always, and gave us some good tips about things happening locally during our stay that we might be interested in. The cottage was comfortable as ever, and the location is great allowing us to both chill and be active (with the active bit definitely helped by the late April sunshine!).

We have been visiting Hendersyde for years now, and once again we were not disppointed!

What did you particularly enjoy during your stay in The Borders?
On this stay it was the fantastic views from the top of the Eildon Hills.

Margaret from Aberdeen stayed at Southsyde for 4 nights in April 2026

Thank you both very much M - it's always a pleasure to see you both and Todd! You certainly had a really well timed stay with lots going on and lovely weather for your local walks and up The Eildons!

Southsyde is a perfect cottage for a holiday in the Borders. It is very well equipped and comfortable and warm and cosy in the winter months. Views from the cottage are great and even more so with the lambs in springtime. Sitting in the garden at the front is so peaceful. Kelso is the nearest town and has everything you need in terms of shops. There is so much to do in this area with a number of stately homes, abbeys and castles nearby and lots of good walks. The coast is close by with some of the best beaches in the world!

What did you particularly enjoy during your stay in The Borders?
Walking, both in the hills and at the seaside and visiting stately homes, Abbeys and castles
