We have been holidaying at Hollies for several years now and are extremely happy with the facilities. We are very disappointed that the restaurant has not opened to its pre-covid state. We find all the cardboard equipment such a waste and do not use the restaurant at all now. The lodge we occupied is very beneficial now that the garden/seating area has been extended. Our only complaint is we think the shower could do with a grab rail, I.e. for elderly (as we are) or disabled clients.

Everything you could wish for in a luxury stay.
All furnishings were of a very high quality, the decor was very tasteful and everything was thought of, we could not of asked for more.
The location was great, easy to find and was accessible for everywhere we wanted to visit.
The addition of the farm shop and cafe on site was a real plus.

Sorry we couldn’t stay longer. The accommodation and shop/ cafe were fantastic. We enjoyed our day at Chester zoo and another day in Chester. Wish we’d had longer to explore Delamere forest.

First impressions of the lodge were that the online images don’t do it justice. It’s beautifully presented, immaculately clean and well appointed.

The kids loved snuggling up in front of the log burner to watch a movie as well as taking advantage of the hot tub.

We were impressed with the the on-site farm shop and could quite easily have spent a fortune on all of the available goodies!

The location is excellent for a family stay, only 25 mins from Chester Zoo and BeWILDerwood which the kids loved.

Would definitely recommend.

We arrived 40 minutes early and went in search of our lodge to sit outside and wait, a cleaning staff member said we could go in as she’d mopped and it should be dry by now. Another staff member, Susan, appeared at our door with such a look of disdain and told us that “we were told that there was no early check-in”. I informed her that a staff member had told us it was ok to enter and we hadn’t simply taken it upon ourselves to go in! This got the break off to a very shaky start.
The communication from staff was terrible, I had to walk half way around the park to find a staff member to speak to with help from a shop staff member, only to be thrust into a sales office with very unfriendly looks from all your staff.
To be sold a holiday that was "dog friendly" and then being told (rudely) by staff that we were unable to go into any of the shops / cafes on site was ridiculous. The only seating area being outside (which I wasn't going to subject my 80 year old mother to) we had no alternative but to go elsewhere to have lunch / dinner / coffee and cake – you really need to address this – ostracising dog owners after taking their money for the lodge stay makes no sense.
Also, although the lodge was nicely decorated etc, the absence of a welcome pack was disappointing, we have been to much more budget accommodation and costlier accommodation and have always received a welcome basket including milk to make a cuppa on arrival (especially as you have a farm shop on site!).
Also, more importantly, your staff member that checked the hot tub each day just let herself in to the garden to do so, you really need to be aware that some dogs are nervous / may be aggressive if a stranger walks in without notice - you are putting your staff member at risk and this needs to be assessed immediately.
There is also a safety issue that need addressing – there is a hole in the floor by the armchair with an extension lead bent into it, this is a fire risk and needs to be removed. I have taken pictures if you need them.
I would also have been grateful if we had been made aware that there were workmen on site using JCB’s all day, not very conducive to a relaxing break for my elderly mother recovering from an operation.
A couple of housekeeping things that would help – your cups are too small for the coffee machine you provide resulting in spilt coffee on the worktop, No bins in any of the rooms, this is usual in any lodge / hotel setting, a hard copy of the lodge instructions etc. would be extremely helpful, not everyone finds it easy to refer to the website all the time.
All in all, as a premium short break, it fell short of the mark. I would ask that a partial refund would be suitable, having sold us a relaxing and dog-friendly break that was anything but.
Incidentally, we have yet to receive our £200.00 deposit back either.

The Hollies provides a great environment and experience. The location of the lodges is in very quiet area but in a minute you can be in the farm shop deciding what fine food you will be having to eat tonight. We really enjoyed our stay it’s such a great place for the special family get together we had planned and everyone enjoyed it. I have stayed a few times now and as a place to relax and unwind it never fails, providing a comfortable and enjoyable environment to get away from it all.
This latest stay was different as it was a family celebration and it worked just as well providing the ideal space for everyone to enjoy themselves. I always find the staff very happy and helpful and the place clean and welcoming.

Lodge is beautifully furnished. Nice to have real fire and hot tub.

Beds are quite firm as are pillows. Softer pillows would be nice.

Dog friendly lodge, however nowhere to clean dog. Shower is only a rainfall and we had to ask for a hose attachment for outside tap to clean paws.

Farm shop is amazing! Pricey as you’d expect but food is exceptional. Would be nice if cafe allowed dogs - especially as we were staying in lodges and would have used if dog had been allowed - even a sectioned off area for dogs. Lost custom due to this.

Have to drive everywhere. Lodge area nice but near a main road with traffic noise.

We checked in at night with ease, the lodge was clean, facilities are great and glad to see the hot tub warm! I was expecting some balloons and banners for my wifes birthday celebration as agreed with the reservations team but unfortunately they weren’t in the lodge.

In the morning I opened the kitchen blind to be greeted by a lady replacing chemicals in the hot tub (I would have expected this to be carried out before our arrival and the very least a knock at the door). Not long after we did have a knock at the door but this time for a chap to sweep the chimney, which was unexpected and uncomfortable. There has been a constant flow of work vans in and out of the park and we have had the pleasure of two rather dodgy looking blokes in a boy racer car opposite us all day ‘working’ and/or chatting and smoking. There was a constant use of power tools making considerable noise.

I appreciate we aren’t staying in peak season but it has not been a relaxing retreat, its felt like we’ve chosen to stay during a maintenance week and all in all rather disappointing.

We had an amazing stay as usual at the Hollies Lodges. We’re already booked in for 2024. It’s tranquil, we didn’t go anywhere for 5 days, bought all our meals in the farm shop, even did Christmas shopping there. Staff are fantastic at the Lodges.

Loved our stay in the lodge, it was a world away from the hustle and bustle yet only 30 mins drive. Would highly recommend to anyone, and we had elderly parents with us so it was perfect no stairs etc. All amentites were great but we wasn’t sure what was there so we did bring our own pots and pans as we wanted to cook there. Also a lot of construction in the lodge opposite so wasn’t the quietest in the mornings.
We visited the Farmshop one day and the Barn, I would say it was slightly difficult for my parents to move around as it was very tight on space and barely any Christmas decorations or anything to buy only some outside. Plus the cashier in the farmshop wasn’t the friendliest and seemed to look down on us when we came to pay.
I would definitely recommend the Forrest Lodges though and are looking to come back for my mum’s 83rd birthday end of January but hoping to stay for longer next time.
Thank you

Very peaceful cabin with a wonderful hot tub would love to stay longer. Amazing farm shop and gift shop, a lovely cafe you can get breakfast from with other snacks and drinks. The cabins are in a ideal location having local attractions very close by and a lovely pub with in walking distance, with more nice pubs only a short driving distance away.
