We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in The Grand Fir Lodge. It really is as big as it looks on the pictures. Very clean and comfortable and has everything in it you need. Buy some matches if you want to use the BBQ. Farm shop Fillet Steak was the best I’ve had. Had a take away food box from the cafe too, staff very welcoming and friendly. Hot tub clean and very private. The on site gift shops are lovely, we bought some Arran fragrance items after smelling them in our lodge, gorgeous. Loads of places to go & see. We went on the cable car in Llandudno, saw the Enlightenment show at St George’s Hall in Liverpool, lovely Pizza/Italian just round the corner called Neapolitan Pizza & Bar on Lime Street. We enjoyed breakfast in Latte’ Da in the lovely Village of Tarporley just 10 minutes away. Delamere St carpark in Chester is quite central and easy to get to from the ring road. Would love to come back.

This was a treat for our eldest grandchild who had just finished her exams. We were all delighted with the lodge, it was luxurious and comfortable. Despite the weather the hot tub was used every day. In the evening we all had a delicious meal from the wonderful Farm Food shop on site. There was also another shop with cafe attached that we went to every morning.
The staff were very helpful with their local knowledge and thanks to them we had a great day in Chester using the Park and Ride.

We had a wonderful stay at The Grand Fir Lodge. It is beautiful. The beds are very comfy, the hot tub enhanced our stay and we loved the farm shop.
We just missed having a dressing table or a plug socket near a mirror to be able to do our hair. We improvised though.
We would highly recommend staying here for something that little bit special and we would definitely return.

Beautiful and tranquil stay as usual. Opening the doors to the garden and hearing how quiet it is fills you with a feeling of peace. Farm shop for shopping is fantastic, beautiful stay.

Our stay was excellent. Lodge was very clean and had many thoughtful extras, tea, coffee, sugar, washing up item's, washer tablets and waste bags. Beds very comfortable. Loads of space. Good quality showers. Very warm. Hot tub lovely and clean and cleaned each day we were there.
The farmers market is excellent everything you need. Yes a little more expensive but excellent quality items.

We stayed at the Hollies a couple of years ago at the Nordmann lodge and had a great stay. Sadly our stay this December 2023 at the Grand Fir was not like our last experience and was disappointing. We arrived to the lodge never receiving any welcome email, this wasn’t too much of an issue as we had stayed before. We started to unpack our bags and quickly realised many cobwebs around the lodge and that it just wasn’t up to the cleanliness standard that we had experienced a couple of years before. We sat on the sofa and quickly realised it was very insecure and that two of the supporting legs were actually broken. We emailed customer services that evening and they responded the next morning apologetic and arranged a handyman to fix the issue. We also had TV’s in the master and 2nd bedroom that did not seem to work. The controller in the master bedroom had a battery cover that wouldn’t stay on and kept falling off, resulting in the batteries coming out, a new controller would have been a simple fix, but instead we were told to hold it in a certain way to stop the problem happening. Something quite silly but also annoying when you just want it to work. My daughter spilt a little juice on the floor, so we quickly cleaned it up and in doing so realised how disgusting and dirty the floors were. They could not have been thoroughly cleaned or mopped. The dishwasher was very frustrating as when you pulled the bottom tray out it would not stay out and would slide back in as it wasn’t level and fitted properly. The extractor fan in the main bathroom was filthy with dust and just looked dirty. The shower pressure in both bathrooms was awful, it was so slow and weak. We then realised on closer inspection that some of the shower head nozzles were blocked with timescale and once rubbed clean they unblocked and worked. Shower pressure was still not good though. The hot tub was not great, it was clean but not comfortable, we deal with hot tubs regularly with our line of work and it wasn't a great make. Overall It just felt like the standard of lodge was not the ‘luxury’ they claim and the furniture was not comfortable. We felt disappointed and actually left early to come home. I emailed customer service to tell them this and wanted to know what to do with the lodge key and rather than come and speak to us about the issues and apologise they just replied telling us what to do. No care really which was a disappointment. Before booking this stay we had already booked to stay next year in May at the ‘new lodge’ they advertised. However, this is not a new lodge: it’s an existing one on site that is being refurbed. So I emailed to say I wanted a refund for the deposit as we did not wish to return. They did refund this. Also, felt the 10% discount they offer lodge guests at the farm shop is not really enough. The prices in the farm shop are very high and as much as I know you pay more for farm shop goods and produce, some items were just crazy. 1 litre of orange juice £6.99. A bit more discount for guests would be appreciated I’m sure. We ended up eating out the majority of our stay as prices weren’t a lot different. I hope that the Hollies will review this and think about making some needed changes. As it is a shame as I said our first stay was wonderful.

Its alway exciting to head away for the weekend and this break was no different. We were a group of 50+ women, looking forward to a relaxing weekend together, enjoying good food and fizz. On arrival we were very pleased with the lodge, the staff that greeted us were very helpful and attentive.

However there are several points to note.

1) There were no mirrors in the lodge other than over sink mirrors in the bathrooms. It definitely needs some full length mirrors.
2) It would be good to supply additional towels for the hot tub along with robes that are not at an extra cost. The price of the lodge is at a premium therefore these items should be included.
3) Electric - not sure if there is an electric supply issue, however the sockets were getting very hot when charging mobile phones.
4) There were a couple of light bulbs that had blown. All lighting should be checked after every stay.
5) Needs to thorough clean, lots of cobwebs !
6) Welcome Pack - in most premium rentals, you typically get a welcome pack, milk, loaf of bread, butter, jam, biscuits etc, given that the Hollies is part of an amazing farm shop - this would be relatively easy for you to facilitate and would likely stimulate further spending.

Finally, and the biggest issue of the weekend was the horrendous drain smell on the patio / hot tub area. We reported this on Saturday morning but didn't hear anything back from the staff. It was not pleasant experience sat in the hot tub with this type of foul smell. Equally it was not possible to enjoy an evening meal outside due to the stench. We specifically chose the Hollies due to the facilities, but unfortunately its wasn't enjoyable.
