Our stay was tranquil, peaceful and completely undisturbed, precisely the quiet and away-from-it-all break we were seeking. The expansive views across the lake to the hills beyond were idyllic. In addition to the swans and ducks, we saw heron, kingfisher and a red kite using the lake, right in front of us, from the lounge patio doors. The decor was top quality and the welcome package, including a dozen pink roses, was very much appreciated.

Fabulous setting in a lovely corner of Scotland. We appreciated the loch's wildlife, the sheep around, the hot tub, being able to BBQ and the comfort of the lodge itself.

This place is fantastic! The location on the Loch is stunning, AMAZING views from the lodges. The area is brilliant, loads of great walks, be it down to Auchencairn village or into one of the numerous woodland areas nearby. Great for dogs and plenty of beaches nearby. The lodge was beautifully presented and so comfortable. We had such a peaceful, fun time. Fiona and Robin have done a great job of this place and are great hosts. We hope to return one day.

This is a fabulous location with breathtaking views, amazing wildlife and numerous walks on your doorstep. Castle Douglas, Auchencairn and the coastal areas are all within easy reach.
The lodge sits directly adjacent to the loch and here there were ducks, geese, house martins, red kites and a swan to keep you entertained whilst you soak up the scenery from the balcony. The hot tub was immaculately clean and an added luxury, we looked forward to a glass of wine here every evening.
The lodge itself is very well equipped and the fixtures and fitting of high quality. Shower was nicely powerful and plenty of hot water, the bed comfortable with crisp, clean sheets, and the couches in the lounge similarly comfortable for lazy days. The kitchen has everything you need and the washing machine was very helpful for washing dog towels.
Auchencairn and the amazing village shop (that is small, but seems to do everything including home made evening meals), is a 15-20minute walk along the stream and you can also walk further on to the coast and Torr Point or Balcany Bay. There is a walk up to Bengairn point (398m) accessible from the lodge as well as a nice short loop through the farm.
Our hosts were welcoming and available if needed, without being intrusive. We ran into them a few times whilst out walking and they were generous with their time and advice on places to go.
Overall, an amazing spot - I almost don't want to put in a review in case it gets booked up for next year.
* I have ticked sauna below because this field had to be populated to submit. However, I would not want anything else installed that would disrupt the peaceful setting, especially things on the water or a children's play area. It was perfect as is.

Bengairn is a luxurious experience and great place to totally chill and get away from the normal day to day hassles.
This was our second visit to "Holly" and it did not disappoint. The lodge is first class accommodation with the most beautiful view of a lake and surrounding countryside. Watching the ducks is even a joy.
The hot tub is so easy to use and such a joy to have on your doorstep!
Fiona and Robin are excellent hosts - its like visiting friends. They make you so welcome.
Everything you need is in the lodge plus beautiful flowers and a small food hamper with fresh milk, jam, yoghurts and other fine items are provided. If you want or need time away, then this is the place to go.

Another fantastic fortnight in Holly, this time in late Spring. The loch and scenery are wonderful and it’s fascinating to see all the farm activity in the field. Robin and Fiona are superb hosts; nothing is too much trouble. Auchencairn village shop is a fantastic asset, and being so close to Kirkcudbright, Castle Douglas and Threave is great.
