3 BEDROOMS - SLEEPS 7

Mole Cottage is a delightful thatched cottage that has been sympathetically modernised to provide a high standard of accommodation. Built in 1927, the cottage is situated in a picturesque location and enjoys panoramic sea views from the principal accommodation.

This was our third stay at this cottage, so we are somewhat biased towards it…
I’m pleased to report that our previous experiences were repeated on this visit, comfortable furnishings and well equipped.
No issues identified upon arrival and none arose during our visit
The badgers did not disappoint and we also had a fox visit
We will return…

This was our second stay at Mole Cottage. During our stay I booked to return again next year. For me it is perfect…there is everything there you could wish for, it is comfortable, peaceful and restorative. I love it …Emma the owner leaves a personalised welcome card, the Badgers visit each evening and the views are simply amazing…so grateful Emma shares her beautiful home with us , thank you

This is a hidden gem, it's a fabulous holiday home, exceptionally clean and spacious. Everything you need and more. Quiet and peaceful location that is in a very handy position for sight see-ing. The nightly visit by the Badger family was the highlight. Absolutely wonderful. I can't speak highly enough about this property. It's one of the best we have stayed in. Will, most certainly return.

A lovely old cottage peaceful and quiet with lovely views…The side garden is especially secluded and quiet,
On the negative side parking is not great,
The cleaners don’t clean under the furniture or bathroom cabinets as I found out when I dropped something which rolled under Ugh !.
But on the whole a lovely place to unwind and enjoy the badgers.

Emma here, the fortunate owner of Mole Cottage. Thank you so, so much for your most lovely review. I think Mole is a very special place, and the badger visits make it something quite magical from me. I spend hours feeding them each time I’m there. I never get tired of it. I try hard to make Mole Cottage a perfect, comfortable home from home for guests and I always hope that they will find the same magic there that I do. It looks like you definitely did, and that makes me so happy! Please do come again - you would be most welcome.

Mole Cottage is in a fantastic location in Luccombe, 10/15 minutes walk from Shanklin old town. If you walk back to the cottage from Shanklin it is up hill, which is not a problem if you are fit and healthy, but do take this into consideration. The cottage is situated on a private road, so it was always very quiet, both night and day; there's parking for 2 cars just outside of the property.

Being at the top of a hill meant that you are rewarded with a fantastic view out to sea from the lovely garden at the back and side of the property. It's great to watch some of the Channel Island ferries, cargo ships and tankers go by. It's also excellent for star gazing on a clear night. We were also very lucky to be visited by badgers each night, which was amazing to see! We loved watching them feast on the peanuts left out for them each night, right by the patio doors!

The cottage was very well equipped to make our stay a very comfortable home from home experience. The layout worked very well for 4 adults and 2 children. The children could sleep in the large upstairs bedroom, whilst you could remain talking in the living room without disturbing them.

We loved our stay at Mole Cottage and it made our visit to The Isle of Wight a very memorable one and would happily stay here again!

Mole cottage is in a beautiful & peaceful location. The accommodation is very clean, spacious & comfortable with spectacular views to the sea. There are plenty of indoor entertainment activities available - books, games, puzzles etc if the weather is inclement. (However we didn’t need these)
All of the facilities were clean & tidy & kitchen equipment easy to use.
The added attraction was the evening visits in the back garden by a family of badgers who feasted on peanuts which we put out for them. On one occasion we saw a fox!

Would you return?
Probably

Mole Cottage is like home from home. It has everything you could possibly need. The Cottage has amazing views and is private and quiet. Shanklin is the next village to Luccombe so amenities are close by. Having the badgers visit each evening is a real bonus too. The coastal walk is close so if you like walking then Mole Cottage is ideality situated. We had the need to call the maintenance team who dealt with our issue extremely promptly. We would certainly recommend this cottage.

The cottage was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed.
Large garden which was well maintained. The kids loved it.
We were left a bag of nuts to feed a badger which comes every evening at dusk without fail ! This was a nice bonus for the kids .
Would stay again

We had another wonderful stay at Mole cottage, the weather was not the best we have had on the Isle land but as you turn the corner at the top of the hill and see the cottage the smile returns and the sun shines no matter what the weather. the cottage is well looked after and has every thing you need, just to sit in the garden and look at the views or watch the wild life from butterflies and bees to birds and badgers its just so peaceful. At night its just a short walk to the local pubs followed by a walk through the chine, or sit and watch the ships passing while you star gaze. The worst part of staying at Mole cottage is the leaving to go home

this was our fourth stay at mole cottage and it was just perfect and the new showers are wonderful; We had the most wonderful weather all week even if the weather turns wet or windy there is still things to do which is why we just love the island.
The cottage is just a short walk from Shanklin with its shops, tea rooms and pubs also there is a theatre an d the chine is a must best seen at night. at night we sat in the garden watching the ships out at sea and the moon on the sea was very romantic then we had the joy of the badgers [3 of them ] coming for the peanut which we put out every night. It really is a most wonderful cottage to visit well presented and spotlessly clean so we have book for next year again.

Mole Cottage was in an ideal location with stunning sea views though slightly spoilt by the overgrown bushes in the garden which did spoil the view to the sea from certain positions in the house & no comfortable outside furniture in the garden as 80 years olds the wooden table with attached stools was not ideal to sit on so ended up inside.

I'm so sorry you didn't find the new garden lounge chairs in the garage. There are 4 of them, and they would have made your garden experience much more comfortable. I was at Mole Cottage just last week and the Buddleia (butterfly bush) was cut back in the spring, but has exploded! Tom Jones the gardener is going to prune it right back next spring. Thank you for the feedback.

From the moment we walked into this pristine cottage we felt at home. Comfortable beds ( very important after a busy day and a glass or two of wine with a nice meal). With a party of four we found the property really spacious both inside and outside in the gardens. All faciliteis really good with a well appointed kitchen supported by a wide range of utensils. Setting is rural and the location of the cottage is quite high up which means it bounded by steepish but quiet roads. Might be a challenge for anyone with walking difficulties.

Mole cottage is the oerfect family holiday home
The 3 bedrooms are just perfect and the living accommodation is perfectly suitable for relaxing or socialising
The views and gardens make this place just perfect
But the icing on the cake has to be the nightly visit from the badgers. Red skin peanuts are a must on your packing list.
Emma and her team at Mole cottage certainly make this place a little perfection

It was a privilege to stay at this cottage. Not only was it luxuriously furnished and equipped, the positioning perfect, being just isolated enough, and the views over the sea delightful, there were also badgers
They visited every night, making the television and similar redundant
Similarly the dark skies were equally distracting ( when we had a clear sky at least)
Would we return? In an instant…

A lovely well equipped, spacious and comfortable cottage. Attractive garden with views of the hills and the sea and outdoor seating.
A car is necessary as steep hill into Shanklin (15 minutes on foot going, 25 minutes coming back, if you are used to walking.)

The cottage has always been kept smart and clean; the badgers are a delight to watch as is the little mouse which nips out from the corner of the patio doors to pinch a peanut or two. for us its perfect and will be coming back next year.
The staff at Island homes could not more helpful and pleasant what ever problems may arise [if any]

Another lovely stay at Mole Cottage. This is a very special cottage - super location, fantastic views and badgers visiting every evening. Fully recommend - if you can find a time it’s not booked.

Mole cottage is a unique holiday home with a great sea view.
It is well equipped and comfortable and the two main bedrooms are a good size with lovely views.
The visits by the badgers at dusk was really special and our 2 year old loved leaving the badger food out for them each evening.
A very enjoyable stay.

This was our third visit to Mole Cottage and it is always very clean comfortable and welcoming. A lovely personal note of welcome from Emma and Stuart makes us feel like old friends although we have never met. We had a 94 year old lady in our party and the downstairs bedroom and bathroom are ideal for her. The views are stunning and the evening visits from the 3 badgers make it a magical experience.

A lovely, clean and very well equipped cottage with wonderful views of the sea and downs. The children loved all the space to play in the garden and were fascinated by the evening badger visits. We were lucky to have good weather but if the weather had been wet there were lots of games and videos to occupy all ages. With all the interesting pictures on the walls the cottage really feels like a home from home.

Lovely cottage in an out of way place. Well equipped although I would suggest taking your own cushion for the sofa. Fantastic views from all the back windows. Despite the lure of the upstairs ensuite bedroom I would say the best bedroom is downstairs at the back. Views to the sea from the bed, full of light and a massage armchair. The under floor heating in the downstairs bathroom was great too. Wifi was good which was a bonus and heating was efficient. Couldnt get the car on the drive but adaquate parking in the lane right outside the cottage. Would go again.

I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. The sofa does normally have cushions, but I was advised to remove all non-necessary soft furnishings, ornaments, kitchen items etc because of Covid. They're currently languishing in an upstairs cupboard! I'm hoping to be able to reinstate everything very soon, and return Mole to its former hospitable glory.

This was our fourth visit to Mole Cottage, and we had the most wonderful time. The cottage is very well equipped, right down to peanuts to feed the badgers with.
The views are amazing, and they will never change. Lovely white fluffy towels, immaculate bed linen, and fully equipped kitchen.
The only down side was we had to leave. 9 am departure is a bit of a rush, but hopefully this will change when Covid restrictions ease. Thank You for sharing your beautiful home.

We had a wonderful break, it was clean and had everything we could wish for, lots of room, beautiful views of the sea and the rolling hills, even games, books, DVD’s and PlayStation games. We were visited by the resident badgers every night which our girls loved. It was very peaceful at the cottage and not far from Shanklin. We would definitely love to go back.

The cottage is very nice and spacious and in a great position overlooking the sea. The badgers arrived nightly for their food and there was some lovely walks in the locality. On our return home however we were advised that our security deposit would be retained as the housekeeper had reported damage to a towel rail. We had absolutely no knowledge of this and were very upset at the accusation. I have no idea what this was all about - could it have been normal wear and tear, poor maintenance etc etc. It did teach me a very valuable lesson though and that is to inspect rental properties thoroughly and take pictures of any damage at the outset, just like you would with a rental car. It was resolved in the end and we got our deposit back after three emails and a lot of anxiety. It wasn't about the money in the end just about being believed.

I’m very happy that you enjoyed Mole Cottage and the nightly visits from the badgers – which is something quite magical. I understand that as soon as you emailed to say the damage was not caused by you, you were sent this apology and explanation for what was a genuine mistake on the housekeeper’s part: “The owner has responded and sincerely apologises, as she was just acting from the housekeeper’s observations. The owner has authorised us to refund your deposit. This should show back in your account within the next couple of days, depending on your bank. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and upset this has caused.” Your deposit was then returned on the Monday, ie. the first working day following the email exchange, as banks don’t process transactions over week-ends. Thank you for the lovely comments in the Guest Book and the kind note you left for the cleaner to say: “Cottage lovely and clean, so many thanks”. Given your note, I'm quite surprised at your 3/5 for 'Cleanliness'.

We arrived for our second stay at the cottage to find it all clean and welcoming. the only down side was the Bar B cue was out of bounds so we had to use disposable ones.
The cottage is ideal for us [4 adults and 3 children {2 eleven and one eight year ].Its an easy walk to Shanklin [not so easy back]. Every where else can be reached by car in forty minuets. Must recommend the Happy Haddock for fish and chips done in the old way [in beef dripping ],done well this year only put on 5lbs.
We will becoming back next year hopefully it will be virus free but it was no problem really this year thanks to all the friendly locals.

Mole Cottage is our home from home. We feel so relaxed here. It has everything we could wish for practically i.e. space and comfort and the views are beautiful. We love being tucked away up in the hills, the stars put on an amazing show on a clear night and I love to open the curtains in the morning and see the glistening sea. The owner always leaves a handwritten card for us along with Bager food and this is a lovely gesture that means alot. We love the Isle of Wight and staying at Mole Cottage is a big part of our holiday.

Situated in an fantastic part of the island with amazing views out to sea and with nearby coastal walks or a short drive to the beach Mole Cottage provides everything you need to relax and unwind. The cottage is immaculate and provides everything for a comfortable stay - the only thing missing is a comfy seat in the garden to relax in. Nightly visits from the badgers adds an extra bit of holiday magic.

I'm so glad you had a relaxing week at Mole Cottage. We do have reclining garden chairs, but were advised to remove any non-essential items because of the Coronavirus pandemic. So the chairs are shut away in the garage, along with the BBQ and swingball. Sorry that we weren't able to offer you our usual level of hospitality during your stay. Next time, hopefully!

We spent a week at Mole Cottage as a group of 4 adults and found the accommodation to be very comfortable and clean with all the appliances that you could need (washing machine, dishwasher, cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer etc.) and in a great location with a fantastic view over the Channel. A gentle 20-minute stroll down to Shanklin Old Village with shops, pubs and eateries although it's quite a decent climb back up to the cottage afterwards. Equally we walked the Coastal Path from the cottage to Ventnor, about 3 1/2 miles, approximately 75 minutes, via the very interesting 11th Century St Boniface's church at Bonchurch, and back. The cottage has 3 double bedrooms so would easily accommodate 6 or even 7 using the spare single bed in one of the bedrooms. Every evening, badgers come to the patio door providing you put food (dry peanuts) out for them, quite special to literally have just a pane of glass between you and real, live badgers!! Lots of other wildlife and birds, you might even be lucky enough to get a red squirrel visit the garden. Overall, a very nice week even though we were not blessed with the best weather - no problem really, the cottage comes equipped with lots of board games and jigsaws too.

Mole Cottage is a pretty thatched Cottage situated in a picturesque part of the Isle of Wight, close to the lovely Old Shanklin. The views from the cottage overlooking the sea are fantastic although I’m not sure that this holiday cottage makes the most of those views at the moment... As the cottage faces (South) East there is a limited time to make the most of the sun on the small, slightly uneven, patio area. Maybe if the top lawn area could be flattened and a larger patio area created with decent / permanent patio seating, this would definitely heighten the holiday experience? Also the garden shrubs were very overgrown when we stayed - with large brambles, thistles and stinging nettles everywhere and growing into the lawn, which would concern me if children were staying. Some regular maintenance would however keep this under control. It would be good if a private parking area could be built next to the garage, as the existing parking arrangements are small, especially for anything larger than a hatchback. If I’m honest, the interior of the cottage is a little dated for our taste; the sofas in particular need replacing, and the downstairs bathroom would benefit from updating, however the accommodation is well appointed. The kitchen is lovely, modern, and had everything we needed - quite unusual for a self catering accommodation. The absolute best part however was the wildlife that visited the cottage - a variety of birds, rabbits, mice and 2 badgers who came right up to the patio doors every night, magical. Overall we had a pleasant holiday but unfortunately this cottage wasn’t to our particular taste.

Thanks for your detailed feedback, and I’m really sorry to hear that Mole wasn’t to your taste. We always hope our guests will have the same magical experience as we do when we stay there. Fortunately, most do, but of course it won’t be right for everyone. We do have a gardener, Tom Jones, who comes every week and the nettles, thistles and brambles are all there for the wildlife, birds and insects. Butterflies love nettles, as we learnt from Tom. Many of our guests (and repeat guests) are families, with children of all ages, and we’ve always had lovely comments about the garden. We’re nature lovers, as you will by now have guessed(!), so wouldn’t want to give any of our lawns over to concrete; and we do find that there’s plenty of room for our truck (plus another car, when we have guests) in front of the cottage. Last time we were at Mole we did notice that the sofas are now past their best, so we will getting new ones later this year and a new mattress for the smallest guest room. We really do try to make Mole as comfortable as possible for our guests, and anticipate what might make their holiday experience special, so I’m very sorry it wasn’t right for you.

Four of us stayed at Mole Cottage from 19 to 26 July 2019, from the minute we walked in the door we were highly impressed and it did not disappoint. The only thing I would say is that you would always need a car and a driver who is not a drinker as the unadopted road was a little tricky late a night and there is not a vast amount of taxi services available. That aside, it was so peaceful due to it's remote location. The weather was excellent which was a bonus and everywhere is better in the sunshine. Would definitely visit again.

We really enjoyed our trip to Mole cottage - loved the location and views.
Cottage itself was really nice - certainly up with the best we have stayed in. Kitchen looks new and every thing that you could want and in good working order - bedrooms very nice - lounge and dining room look out onto the garden and the sea.
I think that it would be difficult to find something better for our family on the Isle of Wight.

Our second visit to Mole Cottage and certainly not our last. We are three adults (brother, sister and 92 year o.d mum) and find the cottage ideal, comforttable, well equipped. We love seeing the badgers and the fox, got some great photos of them. This year it seems that one badger (battle scarred and nicknamed Scarface,) came earlier than the other two so made sure we put out peanuts for him earlier. Views to die for especially from the upstairs room. Lots to do locally, so e great restuara ts etc, meaning that holiday is relaxing. A fifteen minute walk down hill to the Shanklin Old Town but don't recommend walking back up on a full stoma h! Only downside, TV reception for anything other than five main channels is rubbish. Ps like the new milk jug!

Our family really enjoyed staying at the cottage. The weather was so good that we were able to enjoy relaxing in the garden with a wonderful view of the ocean. The kitchen is so well equipped that we enjoyed cooking every evening. We also enjoyed and looked forward to seeing the badger every night. There is no negative but the one thing we would recommend is to put a king size bed in the smaller bedroom downstairs so that it will be more luxurious.

Mole Cottage is a very special holiday cottage. It is in a beautiful location and is very well equipped. What makes it special is the amazing wildlife experience. For the price of a few kilos of peanuts you are rewarded with close up views of feeding badgers and foxes and maybe a red squirrel scampering through. We have stayed at Mole Cottage four times now. The animals have never failed to appear and the cottage has never lost its magic.

What a stunning location, a home from home. Ideal for the three of us (Elderly mother, brother and sister). Badgers and mouse came every evening for peanuts and one evening the fox came although the badgers did not let him get a look in! Made it that extra bit special. Downstairs shower a bit tricky and access a little difficult for elderly person with mobility issues but we managed. Have already booked again for next year and hoping for better weather as only got two days of sunshine (in a summer that so far has been unbroken sunshine, just our luck). Highly recommend this cottage, so well equipped (just missing a decent milk jug!). Five star.

Superb cottage, beautiful inside and out, fantastically clean and well laid out in every room, plenty of luxury touches, location very good for beaches and towns, particularly Shanklin and Ventnor. The only thing that would be welcomed is a couple of better garden chairs or loungers for sun bathing in the beautiful garden, as we could have spent hours in the garden with that view!.

Five of us stayed including a 4 year old and despite it raining most of the week there is plenty to do on the Island.
We were out every day and would recommend many of the attractions, especially the Farm with wallabies and the Dinosaur museum. It was sunny and hot one day and Shanklin & Sandown nearby were then at their very best.
We plan to re-visit Mole Cottage sometime and hopefully enjoy it's garden and views across to the sea in better weather.
We also enjoyed the badgers that visited the patio door every night of our stay.

My family and I stayed at this cottage over Christmas and it was such a lovely place. On our arrival we found that the owners had decorated the house in the festive spirit and had even left gifts for all my family under the Christmas tree, which my children loved. The house is large with three well sized bedrooms, though all three of my daughters decided to stay in the upstairs bedroom as it gave them a sense of their own little area. The whole house was warm and cosy with a large dining table (room for 8) and comfy lounge area. The view from most rooms was spectacular looking straight onto the sea and with the palm trees in the garden made you feel like you could be anywhere. With a little investigation we found that walking down the road for 1/2 a mile came to a path leading to the beach which allowed a lovely Shanklin beach walk and I could imagine being vital during the summer months. Overall my family and I had a relaxed and wonderful stay at Mole Cottage and one day may need to return if just to see the badgers that kept on evading us.

Another wonderful holiday at Mole Cottage. Luccombe is beautiful and the cottage garden a delight to sit and play in for both children and adults alike.
The cottage had all the amenities to make our stay memorable and comfortable.
Badgers , foxes, rabbits and a mouse plus lots of birds visited us almost daily.
Thank you for a fantastic family holiday.

Our second stay at Mole Cottage proved as relaxing and enjoyable as the first.
With sea views, quiet location and wildlife on your back doorstep and so much else the Island has to offer in just a relative short car ride, who could fail to enjoy and return home refreshed and recharged.

A lovely cottage in a stunning location. Very comfortable, it felt like a real home from home. This was our second visit and we have already booked a third.
The garden is a wildlife haven with badgers, foxes, red squirrels and a variety of birds regular visitors.
The only downside was that some of the kitchen equipment was in poor condition and needs an overhal. Obviously well equipped originally, several items, especially frying pans, have received rough treatment and are in need of replacement. Whilst this does not detract from the charm of the cottage, it is an inconvenience.

Sorry about the frying pans. You will have noticed the new ones on your next stay. We do check everything when we stay ourselves, and replace anything that has become tired. And our wonderful cleaners also help 'retire' items that are past their best. But unfortunately the kitchen equipment does tend to take a bit of a battering!!

Absolutely idyllic location - epic sea views and no traffic noise. You can walk down the road to the coastal path and can also walk to the beach at Shanklin, although it's a good bit further. Look out for the badgers and red squirrels that visit the garden too. Cottage is equipped with pretty much everything and, very thoughtfully, lots of puzzles and games have also been provided if it rains. Would very much like to return.

Mole cottage is perfect for families, comfortable and spacious with a well equipped kitchen and surrounded by a mature garden screened by hedges. We witnessed badgers on their nocturnal forages for food and many different bird species in the garden. The location is great for leafy shady walks and we loved the honesty box and table of select your own jams. We found Ash Grove to be quiet and within easy walking reach of the Luccombe Hotel restaurants and village tea rooms. There were lots of games, books and films available in the cottage for the adults and kids and the hose outside allows for a paddling pool. We had great weather but I would like to see the cottage in the snow. It was our second visit, even though the huge stuffed bear from the museum was sadly missed, we would book again.

This was our second stay at this wonderful cottage. Off the beaten track it is quiet, clean and just like home we will be going back. We travelled with young children and grandparents and this accommodation has everything for everyone including a private en suite upstairs with magnificent views. You could spend a day just sitting in the well kept garden looking out to sea. The photos don't do it justice.

Our family stayed in this hidden and magical cottage, for the second time.
Comfortable ,thatched and with a gorgeously explorable garden- children and adults enjoyed the sea views and visiting wildlife. We put peanuts out nightly for the badgers.

We chose Mole Cottage because it seemed to be the perfect away from it all holiday for us. We were taking our parents and our daughter and her boyfriend so needed somewhere that would cater for all. The cottage was not the easiest to reach as the roads were poor and hilly but we were not disappointed when we arrived. Lovely views and very comfortable. The welcome jar of marmalade also went down well as well as the hand written welcome letter. The letter mentioned the badgers and their visits to the cottage and love of unsalted peanuts! It might have been a nice idea to leave a few peanuts for guests to put out the first night - we had to use Granola!. We were not disappointed as two badgers paid us a visit. Over the week we were visited by three badgers on one night, a fox and two mice - all after peanuts. Absolutely brilliant.

The cottage itself was very homely. Plenty of towels, the beds were comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. The downstairs bedroom served our parents very well and gave them a lovely view. The upstairs bedroom was lovely with brilliant views as well.

The ideal spot for those looking for a quiet and very comfortable base. The visit each dusk by badgers and foxes added to the enjoyment together with the red squirrels. So many places of interest just a short drive away. Views across the bay from all the main rooms gave opportunity to see the continental bound ferries and cruise liners off to the Med and beyond. We look foward to coming back again next year.
