3 BEDROOMS - SLEEPS 7

An attractive spacious and stylish three bedroom bungalow enjoying a pleasant view over treetops towards the sea. 10 minutes from the beach and shops. Sea Grove has been furnished and equipped to a high standard and offers very comfortable family accommodation.

We spent a week at Sea grove at the beginning of the school holidays.
Unfortunately the accommodation was well below the standard we’d expect for a property of this price.
On the positive side, it was in a good position, close to Ventnor centre,a nice park & lovely coves.
The negatives were mainly due to the poor cleanliness of the property. Cobwebs & spiders in most rooms( was meant to be cleaned the day we arrived) crisps under corner of the bed & most worryingly mould on the shower curtain & net curtains in the front bedroom. There were signs in both bathrooms asking people to ventilate the rooms. We had windows open all the time we were there, but the extractor fan in the en-suite was totally inadequate. There was mould in both bathrooms on the sealant & therefore a strong damp smell through out.
In general we would say it all needs updating. Surely a new shower curtain and net curtains would be quick & cheap to replace? Also it makes us wonder when it was last checked as mould on net curtains would take weeks, possibly months to form! The property definitely needs to be updated, The TV in the lounge was ridiculously small for the size of the room, There was a music system in the kitchen…. A cassette player ! When we mentioned this to Island holidays there reply was some people like the retro feel !
I would be very surprised if anyone these days arrives at their holiday accommodation with a suitcase full of cassettes thinking that they would be able to play them !
We have told island holidays of our experience & just received an apology email, saying that’s not up to their usual high standard!
This holiday cost £1338! So not exactly cheap, would have been nice to have least received some compensation and an apology from the owners.
In its current condition, we would definitely not recommend it!

Would you return?
No

We take notice when a guest leaves a negative review of Seagrove and we always do our best to address any issues raised. Fortunately, 95% of our customers give us positive feedback. The other 5% is mostly down to human error because we insist on employing human cleaners and maintenance workers, not robots. Every year, 4 or 5 weeks in the season are taken by repeat customers who return to Seagrove time and again which convinces us that we are doing a good job presenting and maintaining the accommodation. But we are always looking for ways to improve. It is puzzling that the visitors to Seagrove in the weeks before and after 20-27 Jul left glowing reports in our Visitors Book. Evidently, on the 20th July, the beds and bed linen were clean The floors, carpets and mats were clean The wardrobes, chest of drawers + shelf units were clean The sofas and chairs were clean The dining table and coffee tables were clean The garden furniture was clean The bath, basins and showers were clean The work surfaces, oven, microwave, and toaster were clean The fridge, freezer, dishwasher and washing machine was clean The cutlery, crockery and glassware were clean We are mortified that we missed some crisp crumbs and cobwebs but will re-double our efforts to spot such items in future. Seagrove is a very cosy and warm and draught-free property during inclement weather because it is properly insulated throughout and completely sealed with solid floors and double-glazed units on all windows and doors. The downside is that this creates a risk of condensation mould forming from trapped water vapour from washing, cooking and breathing. The solution is simple – ventilation – which is why we encourage guests to take this preventative measure. We replace the shower curtain at the beginning of every season and have now fitted a new curtain mid season. We failed to spot the mould on the net curtains but have since replaced them. It is quite difficult to replace the silicon sealant in bathrooms during the short turnround between outgoing and incoming guests on a Saturday but it has been cleaned and will be renewed as soon as is practicable. Over the last 15 years no one has ever requested a sound system in the kitchen, but we have upgraded the portable radio (with cassette option) to a DAB+ unit. In the lounge there is a modern 32” LG Smart TV with all the usual functions and internet apps. It is the same size as the one we enjoy in our own living room. No one has ever asked us to supply a larger screen. We suspect most guests to not spend much of their holiday stay indoors watching the telly. The letting rates at Seagrove are set by the booking agents’ algorithm based on supply and demand and we have no influence on that. We hope all visitors enjoy their stay at Seagrove but we have learnt that you cannot please all of the people all of the time. We do wonder if some guests might be better suited to a 5 star hotel rather than the staying at our comfortable, well-equipped, ideally-situated self-catering holiday let with great outdoor space and lovely sea view that is located close to the beach in the wonderful coastal town of Ventnor that is ideal for a traditional family seaside vacation on the beautiful Isle of Wight

Possibly the best holiday ever

What a beautiful house in a beautiful location.

The only negative point was a slight problem with the cleanliness. We had to clean the fridge and the living room carpet could do with a good clean.

So pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Seagrove. The fridge should be cleaned between every guest so apologies for that and we will make sure our Cleaners get on top of that in future. The carpet can get grubby towards the end of the season due to the sheer throughput of traffic. This property has been fully booked from Easter to the middle of September and it is very dificult to get a carpet cleaned during the short wiindow between outgoing and incoming guests. Will do our best to rectify that asap.

Great property in a lovely location.

A lovely homely place to stay with a fantastic view. The property felt like a home from home and was very well equipped. We spent hours just enjoying the view and watching the enchanting lizards. The location was very quiet and conveniently located for the Island's many attractions. We only travelled about 6 miles in any direction and easily filled our week. Ample easy parking. Great outdoor space that was wholly private with spaces to sit in sun or shade all day. We would like to return.

A visit to the Ventnor Botanic Gardens is a must. We had read variable views about this in advance of our stay and wondered what state the gardens would be in, we were extremely pleased to find them being well cared for, with new areas of planting undertaken and existing ares renovated and the upper cafe has reopened. In all, a lovely day out.

My second visit and I absolutely love Sea Grove and already booked again for next year....it is excellently equipped , good location and excellent view from rear garden and lounge.
I scored 4 on cleanliness. After accidently dropping a few things that ended up under sofa, under chest of drawers etc it was found to have not recently been cleaned. A paracetomol was found under the sofa , which was not a problem for us but could be if you had a small child and lots of dust under the chest of drawers. Otherwise in obvious areas it was very clean.
Highly recommend Sea grove

What an excellent bungalow to rent. Everything you would need was there and there was a very comprehensive folder on all you would need to know. It was so clean when we arrived and we soon settled in. The veranda outside was so peaceful to sit there in an evening just watching the boats on the channel. Ventnor is a great place to stay it has so many amenities that you do not have to go anywhere else; however the island is a great place to travel round and see the sights. This was our 5 time on the IOW and due to covid there was a greater amount of visitors which meant that you had to book to get a table in a restaurant.

I would like to thank the owners of Sea Grove for providing an excellent property to rent and subject to health we will look forward to renting again

We had a lovely couple of weeks staying at Sea Grove. The accommodation had everything we needed. The kitchen was well supplied for cooking a variety of dishes. The bungalow caters well for less mobile guests.
The children loved the garden terrace especially the two resident lizards living by the outside steps.
We loved the sea view and the ability to walk to Steephill cove and Ventnor from the accommodation.
Will definitely come back.

Sea Grove, the bungalow, is of a high standard. It is very spacious, very well presented, has a well-equipped kitchen, large utility room and the veranda and terrace are just lovely. Everywhere is on a hill in Ventnor but we much enjoyed the walk to town everyday where the shopping is good. We found the sea-front restaurants and the Spyglass Inn welcoming and accommodating for children. Despite the prevailing Covid situation the island felt safe and relaxed. Local residents are particularly friendly and helpful as were our contacts at the Island Holiday Homes. With a car we were well able to visit other towns, many attractions inland and see the absolutely wonderful scenery and landscapes of the Isle of Wight.

An absolutely lovely property and stay. However on return we found ourselves in dispute over the security deposit. This we 100% deny. We pointed out a fault on arrival which was then quoted back to us. In honesty - the holiday let was lovely and our holiday was great - we had very much hoped to rebook next year. A really sad end to a lovely house and stay. Please take photos on arrival and when you leave. As we had no evidence to counter the claim and we lost a third of our deposit - which was really unfair.

We have let SeaGrove for over 10 years. I think this is the first time we have had to deduct some deposit. This was due to the exceptional cleaning + repairs needed after this guest’s visit. Unfortunately not all visitors share our high standards of cleanliness nor respect for other people’s property

This is a really beautiful house by the sea.

Sea Grove is a very comfortable, clean, well equipped bungalow with beautiful views. We were two married couples so only used two of the bedrooms, which are placed at opposite ends of the property which worked out very well for us. The main bathroom is immediately adjacent to a king size bedroom and the other double has the ensuite. Unfortunately we couldn't use the garden for seating out as didn't have the weather, but perfect if weather permits. Parking at property good too.
Two small points. The first we notice has been mentioned before in a previous review. There is not a shower tray for soaps, shampoos etc in the ensuite which proves awkward as it means all of those things have to stand on the shower floor in the wet. It wouldn't take much to put a tray up. The second was the toilet seat in the main bathroom slips to the side continually. I think that the seat may be too large for the toilet pan. These obviously didn't spoil our holiday in the least but feel they should be rectified.
IOW is a lovely island and we would definately stay at Sea Grove if we came to IOW again. Thank you also to Island Holiday Homes, excellent company.

Lovely bungalow, shame we were not able to use all of the garden, have a small dog so ropes were a bit unpractical and scary as we had to constantly keep our eye on the dog in case she fell through them, and garden could of been cut back a bit more so we could enjoy the amazing view more. The only other small detail was in the on suite shower there was nowhere to put soap or any toiletries. Other than that it was a delightful bungalow.

Most of our visitors (including dog owners) comment that Seagrove is a wonderful place for families to enjoy a holiday beside the seaside on our lovely island. Pets are welcome but only at their owner’s risk. May I suggest a long lead in the garden? It is a constant battle between Mother Nature and the Sea View. We will continue the fight. Thanks for the tip re en suite shower thingy. Nobody has mentioned it before but it is a good idea.

Upper garden is a lovely, flat, split-level deck / patio area great for sea-gazing, sun-bathing, al fresco dining, entertaining, chilling-out and keeping children safe. The lower garden has sloping paths (because Ventnor is built on a steepish cliffside running down to the sea) and some unruly vegetation so we do not think it is suitable for visitors but you are free to explore it if you wish.

Sea Grove provides versatile, spacious accommodation and is very well-equipped for a self catering holiday. There is ample parking on the front drive. The view from the back garden is lovely and the area is generally quiet - bit of traffic to the front in the day but nothing at night. The decor inside is of a high standard and it was very clean. The owners have left a very useful information folder for guests and we used it a lot. Heating extremely efficient!!

Lovely bungalow in a convenient location in Ventnor, within walking distance of the town centre. Well thought out accommodation. We especially liked the lounge, which has a whole glazed wall and French doors opening out onto the patio. The garden is completely enclosed and was great for our dog, who loved to sunbathe on the patio! Surrounding trees mean that the garden is a real sun-trap and is sheltered from the worst of the winds. Great kitchen. Comfortable beds. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the area.

Glad you enjoyed your stay at Seagrove. Not sure what needs updating in the kitchen as it is already fitted out with the usual mod cons and we are not trying to offer the latest city trends. Will have a look into the cleaning and gardening issues that you mentioned. Fyg the season at Seagrove begins at Easter, that is 10 weeks before your arrival. We do welcome all feedback as it helps us to maintain and improve our standards as Seagrove.

We had stayed on the island before but not in Ventnor. This property more than met all our family needs with three good sized double rooms, spacious lounge, dining area and kitchen and the stunning view from the sun-soaked decking area.
One of our group has mobility challenges and this was the ideal property for that. Easy access from the parking area, a handy en suite and no hidden steps to tackle.
We found it a great base for the island with some great walks along the coastal path, although not always with the wheelchair. Steephill Cove was a lovely surprise when we came across it.
A lovely place to stay. Comfortable and well equipped, we would definitely stay there again.

Seagrove is perfect - spacious, cosy (we stayed in November) and comfortable.
The views from the bungalow are stunning and the location is excellent as a base for visiting any part of the Island.
Seagrove is dog friendly, as are many of the pubs serving food in the area - we felt welcome in most places, which was lovely.
All in all, just perfect!

We enjoyed our stay in Ventnor where we have stayed many times.before. Sea Grove was comfortable and very well equipped.I would recommend it to others as long as they are reasonably fit to cope with the hills, which is the case wherever you choose to stay in Ventnor unless you are on the sea front. This holiday home provides a modern, spacious and comfortable residence to stay in whilst visiting the Isle of Wight. The accommodation is well sited for both Ventnor town centre and as a Base for exploring the island. The property is well equipped with a family shower/ bathroom and and en suite in the master bedroom, everything needed to make your stay as comfortable and stress free as possible. Island Holiday Homes were awesome when we had a problem with a bathroom light which didn't work and an electrician was on site to repair the problem within a couple of hours. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return for another stay soon.

We have just come back from spending a week here, it is a lovely spacious house with a relaxing living room with nice views, not overlooked at all, the bed was comfy (king size), the shower great and there was off road parking.
The only criticisms I have were on arrival we of course wanted a drink, the glasses and mugs needed to be washed first as dirty with crusted on food, I presume that's because the cleaner did not check in the cupboards, also the TV is rubbish, it is an ok size but isn't even an HD one, the picture wasn't sharp and the internet dropped out on several occasions. Just because you are on holiday doesn't mean you don't want a decent TV, we spend all day out and about so look forward to relaxing with a takeaway in front of the TV of an evening so this was a real shame, it's so cheap to buy a 32" HD TV these days, on the whole a nice stay but needs updating and the cleaning issues addressed. We would definitely stay here again if these issues were resolved.

Thank you for your positive feedback and for notifying us about the annoying issues that cropped up. 95% of visitors compliment us on the cleanliness of Sea Grove so we are all very disappointed that something slipped thru the net this time. We will redouble our efforts. Although no one has ever previously complained about the TV, you have convinced me that it is time to upgrade to a newer model which hopefully will be in place for your next visit.

This is our second year at Sea Grove and we will definitely be back for a third! The accommodation is very spacious and comfortable with a lovely secluded patio area. Everything you could need is here, including plenty of tea and coffee for a cuppa on arrival!
The bungalow is in an ideal location with the beautiful Ventnor Park at the bottom of the road and the coastal path just beyond that. Perfect for dog walking (if you don't mind hills!) Ventnor town is also within walking distance.
We had a lovely holiday and would recommend Sea Grove to anyone.

A lovely spacious bungalow furnished to a good standard with everything needed for a great holiday. Plenty of space for off street parking.

Beautiful view. House could have been cleaner- pet hairs all over the carpet. We had trouble with the cot provided, as no tools were provided to lower the base to the safe level for our 10 month old baby, and we had to resolve this ourselves on arrival. But after that, we enjoyed our stay.

This was our 4th stay at Sea Grove and the level of cleanliness when we arrived was noticeably worse than previous visited. There was a lot of dust on many surfaces and the floor under the bed was very dirty.

The controls of the cooker were virtually unreadable.

The general appearance of the accommodation is starting to look a bit shabby and could do with a makeover.

This was our second stay at Sea Grove. We love the location and the views – amazing to wake up in the comfy bed and look out at the sea! The bungalow is a good size, bright and airy, the shower is decent. The kitchen is nice and big and well equipped. It's easy to walk to the esplanade or into town, or go down Castle Road to the Botanic Gardens, Steephill Cove or to pick up the coastal path. Sadly it's already booked for October half term or we'd be back again.

A smashing holiday in a good cottage. Weather was fabulous, and the beach / town a 15 minute walk. Please note that the walk to both can be steep so this is not a cottage for anyone with mobility issues.

In terms of comfort, condition and location - Sea Grove was great.

We are 3 sisters who take a weeks holiday each year and rent places all over the country. So pleased we chose Sea Grove and the Isle of Wight as we were all very happy. The accommodation was very clean and relaxing with fabulous views. Really enjoyed looking around the island and we all loved Osborne House. Would definitely return and definitely use Island Homes again as extremely helpful.

we were very happy with the bungalow and it's location.

As it was for 7 people and we went as a couple we had lots of room.

A couple of points:
the shower over the bath needs repairing;
they could do to buy some more mugs

A lovely, spacious bungalow in a fantastic location. Sea view from the garden with Ventnor Park at the bottom of the road leading onto the coastal path. Ideal for us dog walkers! The property is a real home from home with everything you need. Tea and coffee were provided on arrival which was very welcome after a long journey. Can't fault the property and will definitely be back next year!

Perfectly suited our needs. Strong legs are a bonus for walking in the area where there are good places to eat. Plenty of space in the property and everything needed was supplied and in good condition. Fine views out to sea.
