Coulscott’s white Georgian manor and original farmhouse peak through the trees in a lovely leafy valley near the North Devon coast but closer inspection reveals an exclusive hamlet of stunning holiday cottages and fantastic family facilities. Indoors and out, children and grown-ups alike are spoiled rotten, staying in the lap of luxury and having so many ways to while away the days without leaving the glorious 16 acres of grounds.

There are 7 properties at Coulscott, comprising Coulscott House, Georgian House, the Old Farmhouse, The Old Barn and three cosy cottages created from the old farm buildings. All of them have been designed and furnished to stunning standards which would be perfectly placed in the pages of swish interiors magazines.

From magnificent galleried living rooms to sumptuous period elegance, Travertine tiled bathrooms and four poster beds, all the properties provide somewhere special for families, and of course they come with all the baby and toddler essentials as well.

The home entertainment is bang up to date, including Smart TV’s, Sky free view, and unlimited WiFi, plus hot tubs where grown-ups can soothe away the stress with a glass of bubbly, admiring amazing views or gazing at the stars. If parents can’t be bothered to cook, a wide range of frozen ready meals from ‘COOK’ are available to buy from the honesty shop, along with delicious local ice cream or book our fabulous private chef to cook you a sumptuous 3 course meal or amazing tasting menu.

What’s especially great about Coulscott for families are the superb facilities that will keep everyone happy whatever the weather. The lovely indoor pool is toasty whatever the weather with seats around the side to kick back with a book. An adjoining games room includes table tennis and table football, whilst babies and toddlers have their own soft playroom, with giant Liquorice Allsorts! There's also a new communal firepit which is great for toasting marshmallows on come sunset!

There are acres of garden and grounds for children to play hide and seek, have picnics by a stream or build dens in the woods, plus a outdoor play area includes a wooden pirate ship, 2-storey Wendy House, adventure climbing frame and swings, custom made tractor with a slide, and a large, netted trampoline.

Children may well meet a peacock strutting around the garden and will be delighted to get acquainted with the Coulscott menagerie of hens and ducks, alpacas, pygmy goats, pigs, lambs, rabbits and guinea pigs. Other wildlife are regular visitors to Coulscott, including owls, foxes and badgers who might just make an appearance in the dusky twilight.

Accommodation Overview:

Coulscott comprises 8-bedroom Coulscott House, 5-bedroom Old Barn, 5-bedroom Georgian House, 3-bedroom Old Farmhouse, 2 bedroom Peacock and Aylesbury Cottages and 1-bedroom Bantam Cottage, all set in 16 acres of gardens and grounds with an indoor pool, adventure play area and friendly animals.

Aylesbury Cottage (sleeps 4 + cot), with its 4-star gold award from Visit England, is a pretty stone cottage, which has been beautifully furnished and finished to combine authentic character with a modern flair. The open plan layout is light and fresh, featuring a deep pile rug on the slate tiled floor, a pair of comfortable sofas, Sky Freeview Smart TV snd a cosy log burner. The integrated kitchen/dining area is modern and well equipped, including a microwave and hand blender for whizzing up baby food. The master bedroom has a king-size 4-poster and the second bedroom has twin beds. The bathroom has a bath with an overhead shower. Aylesbury Cottage has a private terrace with garden furniture, chimnea and a barbecue. When Peacock, Aylesbury and Bantam Cottages are booked together dining facilities are available for 10 people.

We had the best first holiday as a family. The weather wasn't so good but that didn't matter. There was plenty for our 3 year old son to do. The play room was great, as was the outdoor play area and swimming pool. He absolutely adored feeding the animals each morning. We especially loved the very friendly little grey rabbit. The hot tub was my much needed treat, loved it.
Alice and luke were very friendly and welcoming. The cottage and whole area was beautiful. Can't recommend enough.

Host
Alice and her team are very attentive - that includes her children who were able to point us to a few child friendly beaches that we may otherwise have missed.  Nothing is too much trouble for the Coulscott team, we were made to feel welcome within the first minute of our visit with Easter Eggs for our children, while I guess the eggs were a seasonal treat (don’t expect these in the depths of winter!), on both occasions we have been treated to a welcome basket containing jam, crisps, cake and biscuits - nothing massive but a few extra items to consume. On both occasions we’ve had a small jug on milk in the fridge for our arrival, and with coffee and tea bags available this does mean while you’re waiting for your shop to be delivered you can relax and have a drink.

Location
We’ve spent 2 weeks at Coulscott over 2 visits; beaches, numerous National Trust properties and we still have a “to do”list that has 10+ activities.

Facilities
Games room, laundry room, “Cook” meals and sweet treats to purchase, animals to feed, plenty of grounds to explore, play equipment galore, fire pit, and swimming pool.
The pool isn’t Olympic sized …. But we’ve found it more than adequate for a weeks holiday with a 8 and 5 year old;

Accommodation
The property we stayed in was great for a weeks stay for the 4 of us - it’s not massive, but it doesn’t need to be.  Even on rainy days (which we had a few of) there was plenty of room given the games room, pool and outside hot tub on offer.

Cleanliness
We found the property as we’d expect to find it …. No issues at all.  Additional cleaning products available, tin foil, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid etc.  One thing I really appreciate about Coulscott is the fact they provide plenty of the dishwasher tablets / washing up liquid …. You don’t need to spend money on buying massive amounts of additional products.  We’ve stayed at some of the more “famous holiday parks” and you end up with 2 x dishwasher tablets for 7 nights stay and then spend £15+ on additional products.

Thank you so much for your glowing review and for staying with us again at Coulscott! We’re thrilled to hear you’re already planning your third visit. We’re glad all the team here made your stay extra special. And it’s great to know you enjoyed the Easter Eggs and welcome baskets. Those little touches are our way of making you feel right at home from the moment you arrive. It sounds like you made the most of the local beaches and National Trust properties, and we love that you still have a list of activities for next time! We’re happy to hear the games room, swimming pool, outdoor play equipment, and fire pit kept everyone entertained too. Thanks for noting the cleanliness and the ample supply of cleaning products and household essentials. We want you to feel comfortable and well taken care of during your stay. We can’t wait to welcome you back for your third visit! Best wishes, The Coulscott Team

Myself, my parents and our two dogs had the most relaxing break away here at Coulscott,
We stayed in the Aylesbury cottage which was beautiful, spotlessly clean, so cosy with the log burner, and well equipped with everything you’ll need and more.
We loved the free range animals within the complex, it was lovely to walk into the area where the animals were and all of a sudden they all come running towards you, it was great!
The views from upstairs in the cottage were beautiful!
Excellent location, we drove to all of the North Devon beaches which were not too far at all.
It was the most peaceful stay, we would absolutely love to come back again.
Alice was very welcoming and always available if we needed anything, thank you

We had a great time at Aylesbury Cottage. The cottage itself was beautifully presented and the grounds around the cottage were wonderful. From feeding the animals to playing in the play room or swimming in the pool everything was on our doorstep and meant we could take each day as it came. Alice is a fantastic host who is always available for a chat or to give advice on where to go. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was really well thought out.
Thank you for helping to make our holiday so much fun. We're already looking at dates to return!

We had a fantastic time at Coulscott, Alice and her family made us very welcome. The cottage is high spec, clean, and there are lots of little touches that made it sepcial. Our kids loved all the things to do onsite, with pool, hottub, and animals then genuinely didn't want to leave and we had to drag them out to Croyde, Lynton etc. All in all a fantastic break. We'll be back!

We spent a week here with 2 kids (age 2 & 4) and left feeling that we could have stayed for longer. There is so much to do on site as well as fantastic days out at local beaches. Our kids loved the pool, the indoor soft play and going to feed the farm animals in the morning. Everything at the farm was excellent, we were really well looked after. Lovely place and would definitely recommend it!

Well located for the North Devon coast the mini estate was in a lovely quiet valley and very well set up and run…….we will certainly recommend and come again.

A wonderful stay at Coulscott for our family. Our two daughters (2 and 3 years old) absolutely loved seeing the animals everyday and the range of outside play equipment to enjoy. Having the soft play in with the table tennis table also meant my husband and I could enjoy playing our game while the girls were entertained. The cottage was homely and the views stunning. We hope to return again! Thank you!

We have just come back from a fantastic week staying in Aylesbury Cottage. We have a two year old and a 4 month old and it was the perfect place to be able to keep our eldest entertained when we couldn’t go out because of our youngest at certain points in the week. If you asked our two year old what the best part of our holiday was she would say the animals, trampoline, swimming pool, play park and indoor play centre - not a mention of anywhere else we visited! :-)
The house was comfortable and had everything we could possibly need. Most importantly the beds were comfy! The honesty shop was a nice touch and we made use of it on a couple of occasions.
Alice was quick to respond to any of my enquiries and really helpful with info for our holiday. Thanks to Roy for the animal feeding - we went every day it was on and it was a highlight of the holiday. We would love to come back and stay in one of the larger properties with our family or friends and will recommend to others.

Set in a beautiful location in the middle of a valley in North Devon, Coulscott House is a child's dream. We stayed in Aylesbury cottage and couldn't fault the quality. There is plenty for children to do on the grounds such as swimming, playing sports on the sports field (tucked away at the top of the hill). Playing in the amazing Wendy House, pirate ship, tractor or jumping on the trampoline, meeting the various animals or walking in the herb and veg garden. There's also loads to do in the local area, you'll never be bored, our favourites were Woolacombe and Combe Martin beaches and the Dinosaur Park (10 minutes drive away). Whatever you do I'm sure you'll have fun at Coulscott!

Just back from a wonderful week at Coulscott House and what a fantastic place this is. We stayed in Ayelsbury Cottage and it was really homely with everything a family (2 adults, 2 young children and a dog) needs. The facilities are fantastic, with an indoor pool, hot tubs, farm animals and the most wonderful scenery. Alice and her family couldn’t do enough for us and were very welcoming. Can’t wait to book the very impressive larger accommodations (Main house and converted barn) and bring our family and friends along next time too. Coulscott House is a wonderful location base for day tripping and we filled our week with days out after some great suggestions from Alice via their website. Highly recommended.

I don’t think I can say one negative thing about Coulscott, it was the perfect place to stay for us and our boys (4yo and nearly 2yo).

The cottage was fantastic, so spacious and comfortable. The owners definitely know what families need to make a holiday easy and kitted the place out with high chairs, stair gates, child toilet seats and steps, games, books, bed guards and more.

The actual surroundings were exceptional. Fab outdoor play area and the indoor swimming was so good! Easy booking system and the kids loved it. The farm is gorgeous and the animals were a real treat for the kids too.

You’re given so much info to help you with your stay before you even arrive which is massively helpful. The local area has loads going on and particular faves were the Tunnel Beaches in Ilfracombe as well as sea safari there too. We also made a special day trip to Padstow in Cornwall - takes a couple of hours but worth it for Trevone Bay alone.

My only gripe would be I wish we stayed longer than 7 nights but we’ll just have to keep coming back!

I only have good things to say about our stay at Coulscott House.

The Alesbury cottage was perfect for our family of 4. It was clean, comfortable, and the kitchen was well-equipped. We were able to enjoy a movie night on Saturday as the cottage has access to Netflix.

The facilities onsite are incredible: we were able to book the pool twice a day (booking required due to Covid-restrictions) and had it for ourselves; the kids loved the outside playground; and feeding the animals was an experience that we all enjoyed (especially bottle-feeding the baby lambs).

The cottages are located near beautiful beaches (Wollacombe for example); equestrian centres and the Willdlife park.

Alice and her family were wonderful hosts. They genuinely wanted us to have a great time. It was our first time in Devon but won't be our last.

Having stayed at Aylesbury Cottage before a couple of years ago we knew what to expect and we weren’t disappointed. Everything about the cottage and facilities are perfect for families with kids, especially the outdoor play areas and the swimming pool which our kids loved. The cottage feels like like home from the moment we opened the door and provides a perfect base from which to explore the surrounding areas.

Aylesbury Cottage is wonderful, a real home from home. We had such an enjoyable stay and would highly recommend.

We really enjoyed our holiday at Aylesbury Cottage and would thoroughly recommend Coulscott. It was very cosy and the location is great. It was lovely having the swimming pool on our doorstep along with the wonderful play area and farm animals. We felt very welcome and it’s an added bonus that our little dog was welcomed too. Thank you once again!

We loved our stay at coulscott house. The Outdoor play areas and animal enclosures were brilliant and there was plenty to explore in the grounds. Andrew gave us a warm welcome on arrival. Fabulous views from our patio. Very warm and clean pool. Thank you.

Right from the moment we arrived, Andrew was very helpful and accommodating, showing us around the facilities and helping to us to setyle in. Nothing was too much trouble, even when we left the kids towels behind, Andrew promptly found and posted them back to us.

The cottage was comfortable and welcoming, despite the changes that Andrew had been forced to make as a result of COVID-19. Basically there were fewer utensils in the kitchen and you had to book the pool (although this meant you always had the pool to yourself, which was a bonus, if anything!).

The location of Coulscott is ideal for exploring the north Devon coastline and countryside and its situation nestled in a valley is idyllic.

We loved our holiday and would definitely recommend staying Coulscott

This is the 3rd time we have been here and we have already booked for next year! Gorgeous cottage on a gorgeous farm with a lovely playground area too. The location is fantastic and coming from the city, it is amazing for it to be so peaceful and quiet.
Thanks for a fantastic stay and we look forward to seeing you again next year.

Aylesbury is a comfortable cottage in a beautiful natural setting. Great facilities for keeping the kids entertained. Ours particularly liked the pirate ship! We also made good use of the swimming pool and overall had a great time.

Our first holiday as a family of four, with one only 10 weeks old. Fantastic facilities for all. Pool room and water warm enough for the little ones first every swim. No blue lips in sight. The toddler loved the facilities especially the trampoline and soft play. We will definitely be back.

We had a fantastic stay at Coulscott. The cottage was immaculate and included all the amenities required. The pool was fantastic and our visits with the animals were great fun. There is enough to do around the cottage during a day if you don't want to venture out. And there are great National Trusts areas all around. We'll definitely be back!

We had a lovely stay at Aylesbury cottage with our 20month little girl. The facilities were brilliant- she especially loved the afternoon trip to the trampoline which was a 15 second walk from our cottage. The swimming pool was lovely too. Couldn't have asked for anything better!

We stayed at Coulscott with our one-year old daughter and our dog. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and cosy and equipped with everything we needed. The grounds are beautiful and it was brilliant having the swimming pool, games room and animals on-site to keep our daughter entertained. The service was great with friendly help on-hand if we needed it.
The location of the cottage was perfect for us - quiet and secluded in gorgeous countryside but only a short drive to local amenities and everything that this beautiful part of Devon has to offer.

We had a lovely short break at Aylesbury cottage. My daughter had lots of fun in the outdoor play area and swimming pool.
Many nice beaches nearby. We had a baby with us and they had provided every thing that you need for a baby.
The only downside was indoor play area , that was only suitable for under 5s, my daughter is 7 hence could play in there.
Overall it was a very nice break.

We stayed in Aylesbury Cottage, with other family staying in Bantam and Peacock Cottages. For a family group it was ideal; we each had our own accommodation, but Sue and Andrew arranged the dining so that we could all eat together in Aylesbury Cottage around a large table. We also had all the facilities close by; the indoor pool, games room and soft play, laundry room, and children's play area. The cottages were very well equipped and were comfortable. Good location for exploring the local area; beaches, walks, family attractions and good pubs. We would recommend to others and would return if our holiday plans took us back to North Devon.

As we have two young children the main attraction for us were all the facilities. The indoor pool was a big hit and we enjoyed having it to ourselves everyday. Indoor games room and softplay also great for rainy days. The adventure playground is charming. Wow pirate ship! Our son loved the tractor.

The cottage is exceptionally clean and well thought out. The finish is to a high standard. We actually really enjoyed having a dishwasher as we don’t have one at home. The views of the country hills from the cottage were calming and peaceful. I think the particularly cottage we were in is well situated in proximity to all the facilities onsite for the children and with use of your own gated patio area.

We enjoyed feeding the chickens everyday. I think they were our favourite animals.

It was nice to have access to COOK food (help yourself to the freezer) for arrival day, after a long journey.

Access to washing machine is very handy. We needed to use a couple of times.

There is lots to do within 15-20 minute drive of the cottage.

Overall we had a lovely family holiday and hope to return.

From the moment we arrived after our long, hot drive, we immediately felt comfortable here. The cottage was cool and welcoming, the owner (plus grandson) came to great us and tell us everything on offer.
The cottage was a perfect fit for us and was amply stocked with towels, cutlery, games, children’s book and one enormous dolls house (which both my son and wife enjoyed). With Netflix and a stash of DVD’s it was easy to fill those prescious child free hours, but we both found that it was so quite we could just sit and read.
Everyday we went for an afternoon swim and had the pool to our selves, which helped take my son from only willing to splash his feet at the waters edge to swimming (well floating) on his own with just a pool noddle. We watched the animals get fed and went down several times on our own to see the peacocks and the swarm of baby frogs, shared some frantic ball pool rescue missions with another little boy, attempted a game of ping pong and recreated the World Cup on the foosball table. But my sons favourites were the tractor climbing frame, pirate ship sand pit and play house. He spent much of the week informing people that he was a farmer, then happily making farmer noises (mainly tractor with a little tiger).
The frozen meals were a god send for the first night, the chip shop and pub meal recommendations were both good.
We are already planning our return next year and have discussed how many years we could keep coming before the kids are to old.
