Coulscott’s white Georgian manor and original farmhouse peak through the trees in a lovely leafy valley near the North Devon coast but closer inspection reveals an exclusive hamlet of stunning holiday cottages and fantastic family facilities. Indoors and out, children and grown-ups alike are spoiled rotten, staying in the lap of luxury and having so many ways to while away the days without leaving the glorious 16 acres of grounds.

There are 7 properties at Coulscott, comprising Coulscott House, Georgian House, the Old Farmhouse, The Old Barn and three cosy cottages created from the old farm buildings. All of them have been designed and furnished to stunning standards which would be perfectly placed in the pages of swish interiors magazines.

From magnificent galleried living rooms to sumptuous period elegance, Travertine tiled bathrooms and four poster beds, all the properties provide somewhere special for families, and of course they come with all the baby and toddler essentials as well.

The home entertainment is bang up to date, including Smart TV’s, Sky free view, and unlimited WiFi, plus hot tubs where grown-ups can soothe away the stress with a glass of bubbly, admiring amazing views or gazing at the stars. If parents can’t be bothered to cook, a wide range of frozen ready meals from ‘COOK’ are available to buy from the honesty shop, along with delicious local ice cream or book our fabulous private chef to cook you a sumptuous 3 course meal or amazing tasting menu.

What’s especially great about Coulscott for families are the superb facilities that will keep everyone happy whatever the weather. The lovely indoor pool is toasty whatever the weather with seats around the side to kick back with a book. An adjoining games room includes table tennis and table football, whilst babies and toddlers have their own soft playroom, with giant Liquorice Allsorts! There's also a new communal firepit which is great for toasting marshmallows on come sunset!

There are acres of garden and grounds for children to play hide and seek, have picnics by a stream or build dens in the woods, plus a outdoor play area includes a wooden pirate ship, 2-storey Wendy House, adventure climbing frame and swings, custom made tractor with a slide, and a large, netted trampoline.

Children may well meet a peacock strutting around the garden and will be delighted to get acquainted with the Coulscott menagerie of hens and ducks, alpacas, pygmy goats, pigs, lambs, rabbits and guinea pigs. Other wildlife are regular visitors to Coulscott, including owls, foxes and badgers who might just make an appearance in the dusky twilight.

Accommodation Overview:

Coulscott comprises 8-bedroom Coulscott House, 5-bedroom Old Barn, 5-bedroom Georgian House, 3-bedroom Old Farmhouse, 2 bedroom Peacock and Aylesbury Cottages and 1-bedroom Bantam Cottage, all set in 16 acres of gardens and grounds with an indoor pool, adventure play area and friendly animals

Bantam Cottage: (sleeps 2 + 1 baby in a separate cot room), with its 4-star gold award from Visit England, may be bijou and boutique but is bursting with style and luxury. Striking feature walls give the open plan living/dining area a touch of class and there’s a cosy corner sofa, log burner and Sky freeview Smart TV. The compact little kitchen is modern and well equipped, including a microwave and hand blender for whizzing up baby food. Upstairs there’s a little cot room and bedroom with a wrought iron king size bed and ensuite marble wet room. Bantam Cottage has a bistro table in the courtyard. When Peacock, Aylesbury and Bantam Cottages are booked together dining facilities are available for 10 people.

Stayed here with my 1 year old and wife and we had a fantastic week. There is plenty to do on site and a lot to explore in Devon from Coulscott which makes it a perfect location. My toddler loved the farm animals on site. Would highly recommend.

Excellent location with all the amenities for a superb family holiday. Our grandchildren loved the swimming pool, play areas and feeding all the animals. There is plenty to keep all the family occupied without leaving the complex.
Alice is an excellent host. We couldn’t fault anything, we look forward to our next visit.

Combe Martin itself is not a pretty village so being outside in the countryside makes good sense. V informative and kind owners. The accom is set in a lovely valley, not far from the coastal path. ( It is a car drive away ) Spectacular coastline . Lovely indoor pool and the site has plenty of children's activities. Enjoy your stay !

Our little one had a lot of fun on the farm. The pool was spacious and warm, the playground massive, animals really cute, our cottage comfy. We can definitely recommend this place.
Be aware that the heating in the cottage always drops after some time and so you have to manually adjust it in winter to keep warm.
Overall we can recommend this place and will be coming again in summer.

Thank you for your review! We're thrilled to hear that your little one had a great time on the farm and enjoyed the spacious and warm pool. Your recommendation means a lot to us! We have each of the cottages heating set to be adjustable by the guests, as everyone has such different temperature requirements. Sorry to hear you were struggling with the thermostat though. if you had mentioned during your stay, we would have happily demonstrated it again. Appreciate it can be difficult to remember everything discussed on arrival! We look forward to welcoming you back for another wonderful stay!

We stayed in Bantam cottage while our children and grandchildren stayed in The Georgian House. Bantam Cottage was comfortable, well-equipped and clean. The additional touches such as tea, coffee and milk plus fresh eggs from the Coulscott hens made it more special. The grandchildren loved the pool, the play area and the animals.

We stayed in Bantam cottage for a week in late June with our 22 month old daughter and had an amazing week! Our little girl was in her element feeding the animals every morning followed by a trip to the playground, she has been talking about the chickens ever since. The cottage lovely and cosy, and had everything we needed for our week away. The cot room is also really handy. We were quite lucky with the weather and enjoyed some good today trips out to Saunton Sands, Croyde, Lynton and Lynmouth and also did the short Hunters Valley walk. With a toddler, we also opted for takeaway style teas - I’d highly recommend Barricane Beach cafe Sri Lankan curry (it’s so delicious!), Cluck street food in Croyde, the Mexican street food van at the pub in Combe Martin on a Saturday evening, the Black & White chippy in Combe Martin on the beach. Storm in a Teacup boat cafe in Watermouth Bay is also really worth a drop off - a great setting and really good food too!

Well appointed and very comfortable. I loved the artwork (available for purchase via the artist’s website). Thank you Coulscott for a brilliant holiday! Cannot stress enough how family friendly and dog friendly the cottage was, we couldn’t have asked for anything more! Our daughter loved the playground, soft play, swimming pool and of course the animal, our dog enjoyed her biscuits on arrival, that she was allowed on the sofa with the provided waterproof cover on (so many places don’t seem to offer this!) and a good run in the dog walking field! It was such a nice touch to get a few bits and bobs from the kitchen garden too. Alice was just lovely and easy to contact if we needed anything.
The cottages were perfectly located and all the dog friendly recommendations were spot on - we enjoyed a trip to woolacombe beach, exmoor and a few yummy lunches at the Pyne arms and hunters inn!
We can’t wait to come back another time!

We booked a last minute stay at Coulscott House and Farm in March for a short break. We had a 2.5 year old child who loves animals and the outdoors and Coulscott seemed to fit the bill and we were extremely pleased with the choice. Our child loved walking around the animal enclosures and being followed by the chickens and ducks. The feeding of the animals & collecting the eggs each morning was brilliant and the staff made this memorable for her everyday. The rest of the facilities were very good two. Our child had not done much swimming before so it was perfect to take her into a small quiet pool everyday where she could start to build confidence in the water and use the pools balls and floats etc. to play with. The indoor and outdoor play areas had plenty to keep her entertained. The actual cottage itself was great and met all the needs you would want in a self catering facility and the small honesty shop would be useful incase you needed anything. Evening meals outside watching the sunset were great. The Farm is situated in a great area. As a family that likes the outdoors there was plenty of walks and beaches to keep you busy and the staff can point you in the right direction! The staff were very friendly and helped us have an awesome holiday. We would recommend Coulscott for anyone looking for a family holiday with animals and that loves the outdoors or a larger group gathering with children.

We wanted to escape the city, stay in a cottage and take in the dramatic coastline, ideally somewhere with a spa/pool. Bantam Cottage did not disappoint, not only does it have a heated indoor pool onsite, the cottage is set in a beautiful location with friendly pygmy goats, micro piglets, sheep, ducks, guinea pigs for you to pet and enjoy. The cottage itself is a home away from home with everything you can think of. There was even some biscuits, tea, coffee, sugar and a small jug of milk waiting in the fridge on arrival. It was very cosy with a comfy 4 poster bed and beautiful linen/duvet/pillows.

If I have to be picky, I'd of loved a tub and the windows in the bedroom and bathroom were a little drafty so we had to leave the heating on for longer to ensure warmth at night.

I also would have liked an earlier check in and later check out. I understand that cleaning during COVID takes time but 09:30 check out was a bit of a rush.

We loved the digital handbook that was sent ahead, it was great for learning about the local area and listed great places to eat/drink.

The farm, its environment, facilitates and hospitality was everything we could have wished for. As a young family with a one-year old daughter, her face lit up every morning at the sight and sounds of the farm animals, with feeding time becoming our must-do daily occurrence with the owners: Alice or her husband. At the end of the day, we'd enjoy entertaining our girl at the indoor play area which was so fun for her crawling or bouncing on the soft flooring created. Throughout the day, the location of the farm was perfect for experiencing beaches and forests; and the Zoo was a winner! As for the cottage itself: Bantam was small yet perfect: everything we needed was provided - the cot bed/bedroom, changing mat, high-chair etc. Because of our girls sleep times, we stayed in every night: cooked and relaxed after eventful days with lots of fresh countryside air .

We stayed in Bantam Cottage for a week at the end of August. The cottage is cosy and the amenities are fantastic. Our toddler loved the play parks, soft play and the pool and we all really enjoyed spending time with the animals who are very friendly.

Everything was really well thought out with regard to what you need when on holiday with children. This was our first holiday with our 1 year old so we were apprehensive, but everything was perfect.

The location is peaceful and the views are beautiful. We’ll definitely be returning!

We spent a wonderful week at Coulscott House with our 19 month old daughter and I would highly recommend this place to other parents. The play area and animals were a huge hit with our daughter. It was really nice to get to meet the animals up close during the feeding session and it was wonderful to see how well looked after all the animals were. I loved that they had rescue chickens.

The Honesty shop with frozen meals was really helpful on days when things had to be fast.

The cottage was very clean and it was great that things such as high chairs and a baby bath are provided.

There are lots of nice places a short car ride away such as Lynmouth or Woolacombe beach.

I am reluctant to praise Coulscott too much in case so many people book that there are no houses left for our return.
The customer service was wonderful and so friendly and welcoming. Alice was always attentive and helpful, Roy made animal feeding a delight for our grand daughter and a source of local information. The cleaning staff were also positive. The site is secluded and beautiful, the pool was the biggest draw for us and did not disappoint. The cottages are tasteful and comfortable. We will return next year.

We stayed for a week in May which was the wettest May on record however the cottage and the surrounding countryside more than made up for the inclement conditions. We also had an added bonus of the rivers and waterfalls being in full spate. Heddens Mouth was quite spectacular and the walks along the coastal path were delightful. Alice, the owner couldn’t be more helpful and was very understanding when I told her I had “mucked up” the central heating timer. I thoroughly recommend the swimming pool, especially when it is cold and wet outside, as it is kept at a very pleasant 29C.

I stayed in the littlest cottage at Coulscott for a 3 night stay. Families were also nearby in the bigger properties - it seems a wonderful place for small and large parties. I could hear children laughing and playing, it was lovely.
I absolutely loved my stay. Beyond the care and cleanliness (inside and out), I particularly loved eating my breakfast in the sun outside my cottage, wandering to see the lambs, goats and the pig. Traveling solo, I felt secure and safe. I loved the location - North Devon is wonderful at any time, but in the sunshine it's stunning. I used Coulscott as my base from which to explore and walk and follow my nose. I came back to the cottage in the evenings happily knackered - for a rest, a glass of wine and a cozy sleep. It was a weekend that will stay with me for a long, long time. Thank you, Coulscott.

We visited Coulscott house as one of the first guests after reopening post COVID-19 lock down. Andrew did an excellent job of adapting and what sadly not all the facilities could legally be open there is still lots to do including seeing the animals which you can visit whenever you want and the play area. The cottage was great for 2 adults and a 19 month old. Good amount of space and everything you need. I would highly recommend it to families.

We really enjoyed our stay at Coulscott. The cottage was clean and comfortable and well equipped for a family. The pool and playroom were great as was the location.

Bantam Cottage was perfect for us with our 11 month old daughter. Everything we could need was provided. Our daughter really enjoyed being there for the daily animal feeds and Roy was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be visiting again!

Thank you

We had a lovely stay at the cottage. Small but perfectly formed. We had our nearly two year old with us who loved all the play areas, animals and use of the pool.
The area is very pretty and tranquil.
A good get away.

Very clean well appointed property. Much thought put into the 'goodies' provided, dog tag was an excellent idea and soft dog toy much appreciated. Loved the pool . Only problem, I had forgotten how hilly the whole area is!! Older now!!

We have just got back from a fantastic stay at Coulscott House. Bantam cottage was spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped with everything we needed plus added extras suitable for our toddler - children’s books, high chair, booster seat. The grounds of Coulscott are stunning. It was amazing for our two year old. The soft play area was very clean and the children’s outside play area was suitable for a range of ages with so many different things. We loved being able to visit the animals whenever we wanted which was a big hit with our son. The location was great being close to local attractions and beaches. Would highly recommend especially for families.

Overall the standard of the cottage was excellent and the location was lovely. The amenities were of a high standard and we enjoyed our holiday. The only problem was the four poster bed which my husband hit his head on!

We adored our stay at Bantam Cottage
with our 16 month old. From the moment we stepped through the door following a battle with the M5 we felt instantly relaxed.
The cottage is well equipped and bedroom and bathroom were equivalent to a good boutique hotel - it didn’t feel like self catering. Very well considered for little ones and my daughter slept really well in the cot room.
The wider facilities are excellent - more than we expected. We had hours of fun on the outdoor play equipment, and adaptable enough for all ages. And my daughter would run straight to the indoor play area whenever we left the cottage.
She loved the animals and we had a lovely walk up above the farm. It’s a great place to roam and find hidden corners and surprises.
Sue and Andrew are excellent hosts. Friendly, accommodating, clearly passionate about what they do. They almost co-exist with visitors, doing their thing around the place and a friendly hello but carrying on.
And the area is perfect for holiday with kids - so close to so much.

The cottage we stayed in was lovely, spotlessly clean and we were very well welcomed by the owners.

The facilities onsite are well maintained and a real bonus to the cottage.

I'd recommend.
