This is one of our two "fishing cottages", and is ideally situated to take full advantage of our fishing, with stunning views and walks along the riverside.
All the accommodation is on the ground floor.
The cottage has a large fenced garden with garden furniture, and a barbeque area.

This is our second visit to West Ord. We spent a week in this beautiful Shiel at the end of September which is by the river Tweed in the most tranquil location; fantastic sunrises and sunsets. The Shiel is cosy and equipped with everything you need for the most perfect holiday. Carol came to see us on arrival and was on hand if we needed anything (but we didn't). We've booked again for next September. Thank you Carol for making us so welcome again.

We have stayed at West Ord many times, we are always happy to return and sad to leave. As a fisherman I love watching the seals going up and down the river, they always seem to get the first choice of the fish. I can recommend a walk down the riverside to the Fishers Arms, the local pub. It's great to see it open again and hope it proves a success in the long term. A stay at Geary is great for chilling out, regardless of the weather. Carol and Sandy are always there if you need help with anything. We will be back next year, once we have sorted some dates out.

We have been visiting Northumberland for several years now and have stayed at West Ord Cottages many times.
The cottages are lovely and set in wonderful surroundings on the river Twee.
I would definitely recommend these cottages if you are looking for peace and quiet.
There is alot to see and do in the area.

Every aspect of this cottage, from an extremely warm welcome from Carol, to the well resourced kitchen and comfortable beds, made this a holiday to luxuriate in. We shall return as it was as good as it gets! The Fishers Arms provided a meal beyond expectations and we highly recommend it.

We had another wonderful stay with our fantastic host Carol at the luxury bothy in West Ord. This is such a great area to explore or just relax in front of the log fire and let the river wash away the stress. The special touches like fresh flowers in the accommodation and the sharing of local knowledge make you feel part of the West Ord community. What a wonderful place!!

During the whole September 2023 we have stayed at West Ord Geary Shiel. We have been very happy to spend one more time in the well equipped Cottage. We are guests of the Lang family for over twenty years. Our hosts are very kind and no matter what comes along, they do their utmost to help and find a solution. Stayed here last year and returned for a second visit. Beautiful location and cottage. The union chain bridge is now open (was closed last year) so enjoyed walking over into Scotland and enjoyed lots of other walks nearby.

We had the accommodation recommended to us by friends who regularly visit Berwick, but have never stayed at West Ord Cottages. They walk past along the river footpath and like the look of the cottages. We were very impressed with everything, the welcome, the friendliness of the hosts, the location and the accommodation in general. There was nothing we could fault. We would come back at the drop of a hat as we loved the area.

Despite disappointing weather conditions our stay was a very happy one. Carol helped provide some suitable adjustments that took account of mobility and health needs and we were kept warm and cosy throughout. The views from the cottage over the river with their attendant wildlife were an additional delight.

Our stay at this stunning location was an absolute winner, the cottage is beautiful, just a few metres from the river and the only near neighbors are the very friendly sheep as they pass by. Our hosts were absolutely lovely and they cant do enough for you, even Red the dog is there to give you a warm greeting! The cottage is located in a great location, allowing you to explore the Borders and East coast with its little fishing villages, miniature railways and of course the obligatory trip out to Holy Island. If we could score this a ten, we would!!

Once in a while you find a cottage that stands out from the others. Geary Shiel is one of those for us. Situated a stone's throw from the Tweed it feels remote (the nearest house in England must be half a mile away, and out of sight) but Berwick-upon-Tweed just 4 miles away. The cottage itself was warm (we stayed in October), clean and comfy, and the large bed was excellent. I deal for a couple looking to get away from it all for a while. We would not hesitate to stay there again.

This converted fishing Shiel on the banks of the River Tweed is a beautiful place to have a holiday. The only neighbours are sheep - and they cannot get into the large garden. There is plenty space for two people and lots of places to visit in this picturesque area of the Borders.

We absolutely loved Geary Shiel - everything about it! The cottage is so beautiful and bigger than expected, it has everything you need in it (features, furniture etc.). It lays beautifully at the river Tweed, where we went fishing. It was amazing to come back here with the whole family after so many years, and to get together with our lovely hosts! We all had the best time there and really want to come back someday soon! Rather sooner than later :). We enjoyed tennis, going to the honey farm, visiting castles nearby etc. There is so much to do! But sitting in front of the Shiel, drinking a cold beer and enjoying the view of both, the cottage and the river, was just breathtaking!

As with all west ord cottages Geary Shiel was excellent all you needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay

The cottage is beautiful and well equipped. Fresh flowers in the cottage was a nice touch. We initially had no WiFi but Carol was on the case and kept me informed until the problem was resolved. Very tranquil and relaxing holiday. Hope to return in the future.

Geary Shiel is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday. The river running close to the Shiel is beautiful and the surroundings quiet and tranquil. The sheep wander beside the river and there is little else to disturb the peace. The Shiel is furnished very tastefully
and appropriately, and it is well equipped with everything necessary. The bed is super sized and comfortable and there is ample wardrobe and drawer space. As there were only two of us, we didn’t try out the bed-settee and cannot comment on how roomy the accommodation would be for four people. Outside , the garden area was well kept and there was a nice barbecue and sitting out area.
We are in our seventies and had our son and his family occupying nearby South Bells Shiel. This worked very well for a family holiday. Our grandchildren enjoyed being able to walk up to our Shiel to see us and we were able to get together as a family whilst also having a bit of our own space (and they theirs!).
There are lovely walks along the river bank and many lovely beaches, castles, villages etc nearby. We found the area full of interest.
We have had two holidays at this Shiel and hope we’ll be able to return .
Carol and Sandy were very friendly and helpful.

Another excellent holiday, another spent at West Ord and certainly not the last. We are always happy to arrive and sad to leave.There are so many great places to visit in the area we are spoilt for choice, especially when the weather is kind to us. Carol recommended the Plough on the Hill for a great meal and we have to agree with her, a bonus being that it is only a 10 minute drive away. We are looking forward to being here again next year on our next visit.

We had a very warm welcome back to West Ord from Carol and Sandy. We’ve stayed at West Ord many times and find it a lovely relaxing place to stay and has great views and walks from the door. We had good weather and visited Chillingham Castle, Holy Island, and had a pretty walk in the grounds of Paxton House . Can recommend the Black Bull at Etal for a good meal and Allanton Inn , both a short drive away. And thank you to Carol for the beautiful flowers.

We had a fantastic stay at West Ord Farm. The shiel is a wonderful retreat situated in the fields at the banks of the River Tweed.
A beautiful place to relax and enjoy the area.

The owners were managing new covid restrictions really well and still made us feel welcome.

We have had the best time staying at Geary Shiel from start to finish. We were made to feel so welcome from the lovely owner Carol to seeing the stunning views surrounding the cottage. The cottage itself is stunning and unbelievably comfortable the beds were amazing. Great location just a short drive to lots of beautiful places. Had the best time loved every minute thank you.

The shiel was exactly as described. In these strange times (Covid 19) it felt a very safe environment. There was everything you could need for a short stay and It was very comfortable. The location is almost too good to be true and the walks along the river were fantastic. I would highly recommend this beautiful holiday cottage.

Geary Sheil is in an idillic setting, situated on the banks of the river Tweed.
Peaceful and tranquil with only wildlife for neighbours...
Single storey, cosy clean interior and a sumptuous bed that can be 2 singles or zipped together for a large double.
This was our 7th visit to West Ord holiday cottages and it won’t be our last.

Fabulous cottage, peace and quiet, perfect location and the view from the cottage makes for an amazing setting, there are some really nice walks from the cottage and from Berwick, I would highly recommend the walk from the golf course down to the lighthouse and return for a lovely meal at the golf course.

We are in love with this place. It is everything we would want for a place to relax, unwind, forget about everyday life. We can't believe we hadn't found this wonderful place before now. We absolutely loved it and will be back. Sandy and Carol are great hosts, and we felt honoured to be staying on their farm. It was, for us, a time to reset and recharge our batteries. Carol met us at the Geary Shiel and gave us a warm welcome. She gave us the "tour" and took the time to give us personal recommendations of places to visit/eat in the local area. The cottage is very much on its own and our neighbours were a friendly flock of sheep, swans, ducks and birds! There are great walks straight from the front door, one we recommend would be the walk along the river bank to Chain Bridge honey farm, (try the honey cake). It is a great base for going out and exploring what Northumberland has to offer or if you want to just to chill out and relax its a great place to do that too!
(And it has fast internet! Thank you Olly)

This is the second time we have stayed at Geary Shiel. It is an ideal cottage for two located approx 30metres from the River Tweed. The cottage is well appointed with all mod cons in a very quiet location with only the sound of sheep and bird life for company. It is an ideal centre for exploring both the northern areas of Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. There are several good pubs / restaurants within 20 minutes drive. There is no wifi but that is the price you pay for the the isolated location. The booking was easy and the owners obviously care for the property. We certainly intend to visit Geary Shiel again.

From the first email to the last goodbyes, Carol and family shared their lovely surrounds with warmth and friendly hospitality.

The location is superb - perfect for quiet relaxation. Each morning we awoke to the calm, reflective River Tweed, with its birds, ducks, swans and even an otter and her young.

History, wildlife, natural beauty and seafood - are near by. During our nine days at Geary Shiel we visited Lindisfarne, Farne Islands, Bamburgh Castle, Craster, Berwick on Tweed, St Abbs, and Paxton Hall. We also walked the local circular walks.

The cottage is comfortable and cosy, and well suited to self catering. On the other hand, there are many restaurants in the vicinity.

We were sorry to say farewell - and we look forward to another visit!

It started about 23 ago since we came to West Ord for the first time. It is just one week since our last stay, together with our son and family. It is the third generation coming to West Ord, to several cottages, that says it all! Elfried and Heiri Switzerland

Initially we were booked into Geary Sheill but because of the height of the river Carol moved us to Tweed cottage nearer the farm. This was our first time in this cottage and we weren't disappointed. It was absolutely beautiful, spotless and very well presented just the same as all the other cottages we've stayed in at West Ord. We had a wonderful weekend chilling and are now spoilt for choice which cottage to stay in when we go again for about our sixth time!

This cottage is located in the most idyllic location, beautiful views from each window and a lovely walks to be had along the River Tweed. The cottage is well stocked for everything you need, and is very clean and comfortable. We had to extend our stay another night, we didn't think 3 was enough and will certainly be back again. Thanks to Carol for being such an accommodating host!

We would not come back every year if we were not completely satisfied with the shiel. The location is excellent, peaceful and beautiful and we have fabulous short walks starting literally at the garden gate. Quiet evenings with a log fire and Berwick only two miles away.

An excellent cottage,in the perfect location by the river Tweed, very quiet and peaceful. Lots of information provided in the cottage, and the owners are always welcoming and helpful. In all a wonderful stay that did not disappoint, this is the latest of many visits.

Having just spent our fourth stay in Geary Shiell and having already booked for next June, would highly recommend this location. It was good to see kingfishers on the fence outside the shiell and other wildlife. Carol and Sandy are always helpful. Tina and Derek

A lovely little property in an idyllic location. The booking process was easy and the host very helpful and welcoming.Good walking from the doorstep. The cottage is ideal for a couple or a family group of four. The outlook over the River Tweed is stunning and the surrounding countryside in both England and Scotland interesting and diverse.

A lovely cosy cottage in a beautiful location with lots of interesting places to visit nearby.
Carol & Sandy made us very welcome and were happy to give advice on the fishing and also places to visit.

This was our fifth stay at West Ord and the more we stay the harder we find going home. Everything from the cottages to the location to the family who own it are wonderful and we would thoroughly recommend staying there.

Stayed for a few days in August and had a lovely time. You couldn't wish for a more beautiful setting!
The property was perfect for two people but maybe a little cramped for us as a family with two large teenage boys.
Myself and my husband would definitely return as a couple.
The hosts were so helpful and accommodating and overall we had a great time.

This was our fourth stay at West Ord, it's like a parallel universe of peace and quiet that does your heart good. Although there must be hundreds of guests pass through in a year Carol makes everyone feel that they are special.

A very clean and comfortable cottage right by the river. May be for us it was a little on the cold side but I'm sure if we had said the owners would of sorted it.

We have stayed at West Ord in several of the cottages many times. Always found the cottages and area extremely well presented and owners Carol and Sandy to be very pleasant with nothing too much trouble if help/advice required. So many places to visit,good walking and fishing with good pubs/eateries on the doorstep. We will certsinly be returning.
