Shepherds Cottage slps 6

Shepherds Cottage is detached and has ample parking for two cars to the front and fenced garden (which is mainly lawn and very safe for children playing) to the rear.
Garden furniture and a barbeque are also provided.

A great location and house for visits to the Berwick area, we will return!

We used Shepherds cottage as our base to visit Berwick and the surrounding area and to enjoy the lovely walks from the cottage to the banks of river Tweed. The cottage is dog friendly with a large secure back garden and all the rooms are of a good size.
The owners live on the farm only a short walk from the cottage and were most helpful and provide a list of tried and tested
locations for meals out.
We will return in 2025,
Peter.

Our son and daughter stayed with us in this lovely cottage, and our other daughter and husband stayed in the one
by the river. A very warm welcome from Carol and Sandy on arrival, so pleased to see us again. Although we have stayed many times at West Ord, we still found places to visit that we hadn’t been to before. Howick Hall gardens well worth visiting. Also nice to have the local pub in Horncliffe open again.

Another great week at Shepherds Cottage. Comfortable, very well equipped and spotlessly clean. Quiet location but very handy for Berwick and its shops.
We were out and about and in our week visited St Abbs, Coldingham beach (a couple of times), Cocklawburn beach, perfect for your dog to have a good run, Bamburgh and beach, the Honey Farm with it's bus Cafe. We had a fabulous fish and chip tea in the refurbished Fishers Arms at Horncliffe. Had a day at the National Trust's Cragside and on another day all enjoyed a visit to Ad Gefrin at Wooler.
Shepherds Cottage was perfect to come back to each day and we enjoyed walks by the Tweed and riding our bikes on the quiet lanes around the cottage.

An ideal family cottage with plenty of space and a really welcoming kitchen diner. There were only two of us, but the space made the unpacking and packing at beginning/end really straightforward.

We rented this cottage for a week & was greeted by Caroline-to whom she recognised us, after 20yrs ago. Unfortunately it was mixed weather but had several journeys out. Places had changed, met up with people- to whom we knew. Had a lovely visit to “Chain Bridge Honey Farm “ had a lovely pot of tea & homemade scones- with huge amount of fresh cream /raspberry & rhubarb jam. Ham rolls - a lot of filling & local pork pie. Also had several meals at The Collingham Arms Hotel- near by. Excellent!!!

Absolutely fantastic cottage and location, clean, cosy, very quiet, idyllic, and secluded but close enough to everywhere we wanted to visit, we enjoyed it so much that we booked again for the same time next year the day we arrived home. Carol many thanks for everything and we'll see you next May

From my first enquiry to us leaving Shepherds Cottage at the end of our stay Carol was so friendly and welcoming. The cottage was perfect for us, three generations of one family and a dog. Spotlessly clean and really well equipped. My two youngest grandsons aged 9 and 11 had room for a kick around with their football and a game of cricket in the garden. We had taken our bikes and the quiet lanes around the cottage were great for leisurely bike riding and spotting the local wildlife, hares were everywhere. Cottage was just a few minutes walk from the river Tweed with a lovely riverside walk to Chain Bridge, the Honey Farm and bus cafe Although surrounded by fields we were just a short drive from all the amenities in Berwick - upon- Tweed. We packed a lot in to our two weeks; Highland Games at North Berwick, paddle boarding at White Adder watersports followed by a drive to Dunbar, walking up to St Abbs lighthouse, walking from Craster via Dunstanburgh castle to Embleton, walking on the beach at Bamburgh, visits to Ad Gerfin and Wooler, Melrose, Kelso and Coldstream, an afternoon marooned on Lindisfarne, numerous visits to the best beach ever, Coldingham for body boarding and for the less energetic, sitting and sampling the drinks and cakes on offer from the Beach Cafe. Everyone so friendly where ever we went. Brilliant holiday.

What a beautiful cottage. Location is amazing and so peaceful. Beautiful walks a stones throw along the river Tweed. Main roads are easy to access. The cottage itself is very comfortable, spacious and well equiped. The garden is dog friendly and enclosed, (a very small dog may manage to escape under the back gate). Everyone is so friendly, and Carol especially, she welcomed us with a big smile and eplained a few bits and pieces and told us of the walks nearby. Such a lovley place and when we go back to Northumberland, we wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Coming to Northumberland from landlocked Switzerland, one enjoys the sea, the sparsely populated landscape and the excellent location of the cottage.
You will find a lot of history and special castles and buildings like the Chainbridge. Edinburgh is easily accessible by train and those who enjoy walking a few miles will not be disappointed. West Ord Farm is the only farm we know a little closer in England and we are always a little envious that it is not our home but that we are only guests. It feels like home though. Many thanks to Carol and Sandy Lang!

A return to West Ord for a second New Year lived up to our expectations. A lovely welcome and a lovely, homely stay with an open fire to enjoy. Carol makes you feel like you are her regular neighbour, not just for a week or two, and is always on hand to sort out any problems or give information.

We have stayed at West Ord many many times over the years, both as a big family group, taking several cottages, and also as just 4 of us plus our dog, as was the case this time. As ever, we had a wonderful time, thanks to Carol and Sandy. The cottage was as comfortable as ever and at this time of year, we were able to have log fires which was just lovely. We cannot recommend West Ord Holiday Cottages highly enough. Nothing is too much trouble and you are always assured of a warm, friendly welcome. Hopefully we will be able to stay again.

I know this cottage very well and it never fails to delight me. The farm is quiet and peaceful, the cottage is comfortable and well equipped, the garden is enclosed, which suits my active dog, it's easy to get to the coast and lovely countryside. There are walks on the farm with land beside the Tweed. Perfect. Best of all is the kindness and friendship of Carol and Sandy. Any problem is sorted asap. Carol even rang a dog friendly pub for me. Friends joined me this time and were delighted by it all. Thank you for a great, restorative holiday.

We spent a week at Shepherds Cottage, with our severely disabled daughter who is a full time wheelchair user. Carol had provided me with sizes of the downstairs bedroom, wet room etc, and it was wonderful to arrive to such a lovely cottage and find, for once, that the cottage was perfect for us!
Carol was very welcoming, and gave us lots of good ideas of wheelchair accessible places to visit, including walking all around Berwick walls, beaches etc. Our daughter adored meeting Carol's dog!!
The weather was kind to us, and we had a fabulous week. Will definitely visit again!

A very comfortable stay in a spacious yet cosy cottage. Beautiful countryside yet only a few minutes drive from Berwick, Tesco supermarket for supplies and the A1 for exploring further afield. On the doorstep, there were beautiful walks in either direction along the River Tweed. The hosts, Carol and Sandy we're very friendly and helpful and even let us look in the other cottages so we could assess for a future stay.

1st time stay at West Ord Cottages, what a fabulous week staying in the Shepherds cottage. Well appointed and totally comfortable. Everything you need is on hand and nothing was any trouble for Carol and husband Sandy. Both were a pleasure to deal with.. Having booked last September 2020 as restrictions had eased. Nerves started jangling as we entered another lock down and it looked as though our jolly could be off. Staying contact with Carol via email we crossed everything that by May 2021 things would be eased enough to travel. How lucky were we. A total tonic. The area is just what you needed after being in lockdown for so long. The River Tweed is just down the lane and makes for a very scenic walk. Berwick is 2 miles down the road, and plenty of supermarkets on hand. You won't starve. Takeaway outlets that deliver if your feeling lazy. Edinburgh is 1hr drive away on a very direct route, no chance of missing it. Holy island 20 minutes away, check the causeway times for safe crossing. Bamburgh Castle 30 minute drive. The cottage is really a perfect place to stay to reach out and explore. Super quite, absolutely tranquil. We enjoyed it so much we could not resist and booked a repeat booking for next year. That says it all.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such an informative review for other guests Alan. It was fun meeting you all, and so nice to know that the cottage had meet your requirements, and you had a comfortable stay. We have implemented your suggestion, and there is a mat outside the door to catch the fine gravel! I still need to address the the rug creep, but it is in hand, and the shower screen has been replaced! Very much looking forward to seeing you alla agin next year, and delighted you wanted to book with us again.

We had a fantastic week break as a family.
We enjoyed the peaceful surroundings of the cottage, nature, surrounding areas to explore, walks from the cottage, the cottage itself especially the humongous bed, tennis court, basically everything.
We all relaxed and spent quality time together. Bonus that we could also share it with our family dog.
Carol was very warm and welcoming.

First of all - everything done re Covid-19 - we felt safe. In spite of some things being removed because of current recommendations, we had everything we needed. We didn't know what to expect re the local shops being crowded etc, so booked a delivery from Morrisons - excellent. We also used the butcher (Foremans) in Norham - queuing system in operation. Also the pub in Norham (Masons Arms) diligent re restrictions. Have already booked for next year. Thank you West Ord and Berwick area.

We loved our week at Shepherd’s Cottage. The cottage is extremely well equipped, with everything you could possibly need, and a lovely garden. The cottage was immaculate and very clean - also great for dogs as there is an enclosed garden. We took our puppy for her first holiday and she had a fabulous week. There are great walks from the door - we really enjoyed walking down to the river early in the morning to see the swans and geese, and the nearby beaches were fabulous. We will definitely be back!

Comfortable detached cottage sleeping 6 (plus one dog). Very well equipped comfy cottage with one bathroom (with shower over) and one walk in shower room on ground floor (one bedroom also on ground floor). Enclosed garden at rear with built in BBQ. Situated on a quiet country road and adjacent to West Ord Farm. Views from the front over the fields and at the rear from the garden the view stretches to Berwick upon Tweed. Good walks. Ideal for families.

Excellent location close to the river Tweed, in farmland.Heavenly quiet and peaceful setting.Shepherds cottage is cosy, immaculately clean, with beautiful bedding and fluffy towels, complimentary shampoo, shower gel set.Comfortable beds, instant heating if needed, and little extras such as tin foil, cling film, washing up liquid, dish washer tablets, that you don't find in all holiday lets.Carol and her daughter Sarah couldn't have been more helpful and were prompt in helping with any queries we had. Also welcomed by a vase of fresh flowers. We loved the place as did our dog Buster that we were allowed to walk on the field opposite.

Lovely short stay for a family get together.

This was our third visit to Shepherd’s cottage and fourth in total to West Ord Cottages.
The cottages are well appointed, comfortable and a real home from home.
I particularly recommend Shepherd’s Cottage for those with mobility issues - we travel with our elderly father and have found the cottage workable with a wheelchair and his walker.
Carol is an great host - welcoming, accommodating and very informative about the local area.
The location of the cottage in the heart of the countryside, so close to the beautiful river Tweed and yet only a 5 minute drive to shops/local pub make this an enviable location suitable for young and old alike.
We love it so much we are going back very soon.

We have been visiting West Ord regularly for over 20 years. The location is beautiful, the accommodation is great and the service is always excellent with nothing being too much trouble to make sure we have a good experience.
The location is perfect for walking and touring and just a short drive into Berwick for shopping, eating and walking the historic town walls.
Already booked our next visit.

Shepherd's Cottage is one of several at West Ord, set in farmland which runs down to the Southern bank of the river Tweed, a couple of miles out of Berwick upon Tweed. This is the largest of the cottages, detached and very well appointed, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a good sized kitchen and living room and private grassy garden with barbecue to the rear.
The location is lovely - very quiet, with good walks from the door and within excellent reach of Northumberland and Scottish borders beaches, castles, Holy Island, boat trips to the Farne Islands and outstanding cliff walks at St Abb's Head.
We have returned here frequently and our stays are always a delight, due in part to the very warm welcome and care that we receive from Carol and her lovely family.

My husband and I have had a pretty rough year, as has my Mother so we headed to Shepherds cottage for a weeks break. It did not disappoint and helped us mend our broken hearts. The cottage itself was perfect, roomy, clean and had absolutely everything you could possibly wish for. The bed linen was lovely and the beds extremely comfortable. Our host met us on arrival and explained everything and offered help whenever we needed it. The cottage is in a really picturesque part of the world 2 minutes walk from the river which we fished a few times (but alas caught nothing). The rest of the holiday was spent walking on the local glorious beaches and sitting in the lovely garden drinking wine and eating lobster from the local fishery.

Just what the doctor ordered thank you for everyone who helped to make it so enjoyable.

Shepherd's cottage was the perfect base to visit some of the many things to see and do in Berwickshire. From walking the walls in Berwick, visiting Alnwick castle & gardens to Cocklawburn beach & Coldingham sands. There are loads of quite roads for safe cycling, a beautiful riverside walk that went for miles and plenty places to stop for tea & cake.

The cottage is situated within easy reach of the A1, so there is a huge choice of things to do and see within a 30min drive. The beds were comfortable and the cottage quiet so everyone had good nights sleep. It was lovely to wake up in the morning to a view of rolling hills & a wheat field rather than roof tops.

The cottage had everything needed, a real home from home & we had a relaxing escape for a week.

Once again another lovely stay in this clean well equipped cottage, lovely bedding and comfortable beds too, nice towels and heated towel rails in bathrooms. Lovely walks around the farm, a favourite is to walk down the lane through the sheep and keep to the left to complete the circular route, also walking down through the sheep along the footpath by the river to the chain bridge. We were very lucky with the weather as it could not have been any better which made eating out in the garden a pleasure watching the nesting blue tits go in and out of the nest.

This was out 3rd Spring break at Shepherd's Cottage and we were as pleased with the welcome, standard of presentation and accommodation as we had been during our first visit. The owners are very helpful and the cottage was thoroughly aired, clean and well appointed. Located close to Berwick and with easy access into Northumberland and the Borders, Shepherd's Cottage is ideal for a relaxing and enjoyable break. Access onto the Tweed for fishing is an added bonus, too.

We had a lovely stay at Shepherds Cottage which is fully equipped, beautifully clean and cosy.
The cottage is ideally placed for visiting the many attractions along the Northumbrian coast.
Though we do not have mobility issues the cottage is ideal for anyone that may as one of the bedrooms in on the ground floor as is a large bathroom with walk in shower.

Wonderful location for exploring the coast of Northumberland and the Border country. The Cheviots were stunning - the heather cloaked them in purple! A week is not enough in this delightful area as there are so many attractions to visit as well as walking. We found our visit to the Tattoo in Edinburgh so easy - we just drove to the Park and Ride near the Airport and travelled into the city centre by the new tram system - the cost was £12 return which also included the parking charges! We were made very welcome by our hosts and would certainly love to visit Shepherds Cottage in the future as it catered for all our needs. Thank you so much.

A lovely cottage in a lovely location. It was ideal for access to the A1 to zip up and down the coast to the islands, beaches and castles. A well equipped kitchen with plenty of space too. Carol and her daughter Sarah were so friendly. We'd certainly recommend it to others.

A lovely well equipped house which made our stay very pleasant. A good sized enclosed garden, ample room for parking 2 cars at the front. The road was very quiet which made it pleasant to do a circular walk down to the river and back just mind the sheep poo! The beds had good quality bedding and made for a very comfortable night. The owner Carol was very welcoming and was there on arrival, we bumped into each other a few times over the fortnight which have us time to get to know each other.

Having spent one week at West Ord each year for the last 15 years gives a true reflection of how we view the various Cottages. Wehave over the years stayed in 4 or 5 of the Cottages and found them all of real high standard. We are a Society of golfers average age 70+ who use the Cottages as a hub moving to clubs within the borders and Northumberland. If only our golf was as good as our accommodation
Clearly the fact that we use annually is a wonderful reflection of our true feeling of all aspects of West Ord We have two members who join us from Australia and Singapore.

Happiness is Shepherd's Cottage, West Ord.

We have had holidays in the Berwick upon Tweed region for over 40 years and during that period we have stayed at several
self catering holiday homes in the area. For the last 10 years we only stayed at West Ord cottages with Carol Lang.
Our favorite cottage is Shepherds Cottage , it is detached with a large enclosed garden, which is ideal for us and our pet Yorky.
The cottage is fitted our to a high standard and is homely with unrestricted views over the fields.
West Ord farm has about a mile of bank on the river Tweed which is ideal for walks or better still fishing, the Brown
trout fishing is free and there is a reasonable charge Salmon and Sea trout fishing.
We enjoy visits to the local Chain bridge Honey farm, which has a visitor centre with a cafe and other visitor attractions.
We will be back in 2017 for another wonderful holiday.
Peter& Marie.

Loved the walk-in shower which gave me the incentive to change my bathroom into a shower room now just completed.
Thank you.
As a disabled person the downstairs bedroom was lovely and spacious, only wished that the shower room and toilet at the cottage had been nearer to this bedroom as one had to walk through the living room to get to it in the middle of the night.
The kitchen had everything one could need.
The enclosed rear garden made the cottage very private and useful for small children.
The owners were very friendly and welcoming and any minor problems at the cottage were attended to very quickly.
The cottage close to the river Tweed is conveniently placed for visiting Berwick for shopping and sea views and also for visiting other nearby attractions and resorts so ensuring a good holiday.
