..... and I love it as much now as I did the very first time I visited 21 years ago - in fact probably more, because some of my happiest memories were made at the Tranquil Otter, with my late partner. After Mo's death in December 2024, I didn't think I'd ever return to, what was, 'our happy place'. Indeed, it took me until June of this year to finally come back and I am SO glad I did - it was like coming home. Another perfect stay. Dunnock lodge is spacious, comfortable and tastefully furnished. We and the dogs enjoyed our stay!
Remembering my beloved late partner on the 20 month anniversary of her death at what was our ‘happy place’ for many, many years (80+ visits clocked up). Have only recently been able to return - thank you SO much Nick, Tazeem, Fiona and the Otter team ❤️
4 night's of luxury, peace and quiet. Close to centre of Carlisle but feels like a million miles away when relaxing in the hot tub, looking out over the lake.
Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for the weekend to celebrate my birthday, we had a perfect weekend and arrived to a box of goodies and a welcome birthday message! We felt so relaxed and happy, we asked for a late check out and they responded to our email within minutes to say yes! We took a long bare foot walk up the long path to the field of sheep and also had the ducks visit our lodge on our departing morning. It was just what we needed. Can’t wait to go back!
Excellent facilities particularly with a wheelchair bound member of our party. Beautiful view over the lake and the wildlife. The mobile members of our party enjoyed the use of the boat & hot tub. The lakeside and woodland walks were enjoyed by the walkers but were limited for a wheelchair user. Really requires a robust all terrain wheelchair. Staff were helpful and welcoming. Totally relaxing stay and beautiful even in the rain!
Alder lodge at Tranquil Otter was absolutely amazing. Just what me and my girlfriend wanted; a cosy lodge in the middle of the countryside. The view from the lodge is incredible as it overlooks a peaceful Loch. The lodge itself has a rustic feel while also having modern amenities (loved the downstairs bath!). Everything is well maintained to the highest degree. Communication was excellent and the inclusion of the Tranquil Otter app makes things incredibly easy. We chose to dine nearby at an Italian restaurant called “Amatos”, this was recommended to us by the app and was great too. ...more
The lake view from the lodge and the hot tub are wonderful. However, a number of things in the lodge seriously damaged the experience. The bathroom is absolutely the worst that I have come across amongst all hotels/ lodges I have stayed at. There is no raised edge/ enclosure to the shower area, and the drainage apparently does not work quite well. So half the bathroom became flooded only after a 5-minute shower. Another issue is the ongoing, loud humming noise from the bathroom ventilation fan. It is so loud that it spreads to the bedroom and living room. There is not a separate switch to turn...more
Really enjoyed our stay at heron lodge, enjoyed going out on the boats, and loved the walk around the lough. Lodge was nice tidy and clean. Highly recommend.
