Remembering my beloved late partner on the 20 month anniversary of her death at what was our ‘happy place’ for many, many years (80+ visits clocked up). Have only recently been able to return - thank you SO much Nick, Tazeem, Fiona and the Otter team ❤️

We feel truly honoured that you chose to return to your happy place after such a difficult time, and to remember your beloved partner here. It was a privilege to have you back with us, and we hope the peace and beauty of the lake brought you some comfort. ??

We loved our stay in this cottage. The hot tub was lovely and the surrounding area was beautiful. We also loved the extra bits in the cottage e.g. bread and jam and the tea towel. Only thing to comment on was some of the utensils were a bit dirty.
Thank you and we hope to be back!

We’re delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay, the hot tub, and the beautiful surroundings. We’re also glad you appreciated the little extra touches in the Lodge. We’re sorry to hear that some of the utensils weren’t as clean as they should have been. We have brought this up with our housekeeping team, as this is certainly not our usual standard, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention. Thank you again for your kind feedback, and we’d love to welcome you back again in the future! [Emoji Removed]

Once again a peaceful stay in a lodge that has everything you need. Everything is thought of, right down to a super pair of binoculars to borrow. The lodge is cosy with central heating and log burner for winter. The hot tub is hot, (as opposed to warm and needing turned up), there are loungers for sunny days.
Struggled to row the boat properly, as the oar kept slipping through the rollocks. But fortunately there's a paddle and we ended up punting rather than rowing.
This was our 4th trip to the tranquil otter so a 3 night stay was just plenty as we have "done" the surrounding area a few times.
For note we did struggle to find some local pubs to eat out in especially during the day, (midweek stay) as didn't want to go into Carlisle centre. So definitely a bring your own food situation. There's a Sainsbury in the edge of Carlisle about a 10-15 minute car journey which is useful without going into Carlisle.
Dropped in to the Royal Oak one evening. A lovely pub with a friendly barman.

This holiday might seem a bit more expensive than other lodge parks, but if you can afford it I'd definitely recommend it as it's different/better than the rest.

Overall we love the "getting away from it all" vibe at the Tranquil Otter. You can't really see or hear anyone else; no traffic noise, no barking dogs, no screaming kids - just birds and bats.

Great place to get away from the outside world. There are only a few lodges and each is secluded. A lovely walk round the lake through woods takes about 20 minutes. Hot tub was wonderful - the staff check it each day so you don't have to do anything except relax. We took our dog and he could chill outside on the enclosed balcony watching the swans and ducks.
Kitchen was well equipped. You need to take your own food as there are no shops in the village, although Carlisle is only a 10 minute drive away.
We hope to be back.

My second visit to Tranquil Otter. So peaceful and comfortable with everything you need for a self catering break. Was lucky enough to spot the otter twice, and lots of birds. The bird hide view was obscured by vegetation, but that didn't matter as I saw plenty from the cabin deck (nice touch that there were binoculars and a bird book in the cabin). Lovely walks around the Lough followed by relaxing in the hot tub; can't beat it. The only suggestion I'd make is to have a vegetarian/vegan welcome or breakfast pack option.

Our second visit, a place to rest and reset! It really is tranquil…
The cabin is so comfortable, they have really thought of all the little things to make our stay great.
The surroundings are so peaceful, we enjoyed sitting on the deck just listening to the birds and watching the ducks coming up to say hello.
We would recommend this place if you just want peace and quiet.

What an amazing relaxing weekend we had at the Tranquil Otter. We are so lucky to have this place on our doorstep. We stayed in the Gadwell lodge and wow what a lodge it is. All furnishings so comfortable and tasteful. The bedroom had good quality bedding, blackout curtains and blinds and so quiet and peaceful, made for a good nights sleep. The lodge is well maintained. You are supplied with a welcome basket
Consisting of tea/coffee hot chocolate and biscuits also fresh pint of milk in the fridge. We took our dog Frankie with us and Fiona had arranged a treat basket for him too, treats, dog toy and poo bags. Frankie absolutely was in seventh heaven on the woodland walks. If you want to recharge your batteries in a cosy peaceful location with amazing views then look no further than the Tranquil Otter, you won’t regret it.
Thank you Tranquil Otter.

One of the most beautiful places to be- gorgeous views over the lake, seeing baby ducks & geese was lovely.
Everything you could want is there, well stocked kitchen- we always get the food packages.
Beds are super comfortable & always sleep well.
Love being in the hot tub at sunset, when the bats come out.

Oh my gosh - what a wonderful stay we had for my husband's birthday. The location is so magical and peaceful and the lodge is beautiful. The icing on the cake was the hot tub - my husband had never been in one before, so this was a fantastic first time!!
A huge hot tub with a view and so much beautiful wildlife to listen to.
Would highly recommend - I just wish we could have stayed for a week!

Our stay in Gadwall lodge was really relaxing and comfortable. The lodge is very well kitted out to Bly any length of stay an enjoyable one. Nobody bothers you and even with other lodges around there is a great feeling of privacy. The lodge and its large size hot tub are definitely worth a visit because you will not be disappointed.

A short break for our 16th wedding anniversary and what a wonderful place to spend it. The location of this lodge is stunning, the view over the lake is second to none and despite a couple of days being pretty stormy, we still managed to enjoy the walk around the lake.

The lodge itself is well equipped and is furnished to a high standard. We were pleasantly surprised at the overall size for a one bedroom lodge, it really was spacious.

We will certainly be looking to return in the future, perhaps the summer next time to really be able to make the most of the outside space and hot tub.

Tranquil otter has an innate ability for to just stop and take a moment. The surroundings are gorgeous, no noise of busy traffic or planes just the water and wildlife. For me it gave me the freedom to stop thinking and just relax, something we take for granted in modern life. Incredibly romantic for those couples looking for a lovely getaway location.

Me and my boyfriend had a great stay at the Tranquil Otter, Gadwall Lodge was perfect for a romantic break for two. Spacious with wonderful amenities, and I was largely impressed at the wheelchair access as advertised,
(worth noting for others, access was great aside from getting to the boat by the lake, I was hoping to transfer from my chair into the row boat but there were steps down from the porch and a large step from the grass to the lakeside where the boat was moored, so this was not achievable in my wheelchair.)

This was our second visit this summer, and it’s hard to imagine anywhere that could top it. The lodge was cozy, spotless, and so thoughtfully prepared with lovely welcome gifts. Nick even dropped by with some freshly picked apples, which was such a kind touch.
What makes this place so special is the peace and privacy — you’re surrounded by amazing views and can slip straight into the hot tub to take them all in. We also loved the secure garden, which was perfect for our dog, and the well-equipped kitchen made everything so easy. The BBQ area is a great, which we enjoyed making use of and within ten minutes drive you’ve got local takeaways if you don’t feel like cooking.
The woods are beautiful for walking, and I’d only say it would be helpful to have a bit more information about other more local walks and footpaths. We didn’t want to venture that far from Thurstonfield.
Checking in and out couldn’t have been easier, and everything about the stay felt relaxed and welcoming. The Tranquil Otter really lives up to its name — we can’t wait to return again.

Our 3-night stay in the Gadwall Lodge was an almost perfect, relaxing getaway! The lodge was roomy, well laid out, cleaned to a very high standard, and equipped with everything you'd need for a long weekend away.

There was a lovely log burner in the living area (which we didn't use) but there is also thermostat controlled central heating which kept the cabin really cozy as the temperature dropped in the evening. The TV came with lots of cable channels and was easy to use.
We loved the hot-tub on the outside decking area and spent plenty of time soaking in it, taking in the lovely views of the lake, nature, and the ducks (who became our friends once they knew we had duck food!).

The accommodation is located in a lovely village and is only a 10/15 minute drive away from several nice restaurants, a couple of pubs, and a range of takeaways! We drove out on one of the days to see Hadrians Wall, which ended up in a nice trail walk. There were also some great walks closer by, including a lovely forest pathway around the lake to the rear of the lodge.

All in all, we loved our stay and glad that we chose to stay at the Tranquil Otter over some of the other locations we looked at. It really is a unique location and we will definitely stay there again in the future!

Excellent few days spent in the Gadwall. The Lodge has every amenity you would expect and more. Comfortable beds, soft , fluffy towels, & lots of little homely touches. The kitchen is very well equipped and spotlessly clean. We relaxed in the Hot tub, took the boat out, walked round the Lough many times and even found time to feed the ducks. We left just the once to have a pub lunch, & can recommend The Greyhound, Burgh by Sands, great food and friendly staff. Loved our stay & already planning a return!

This was our second stay this year at Tranquil Otter and every bit as good as our first one.
Lovely setting on the lake with our own little rowing boat to explore the lake.
Only little suggestion would be to cut some of the branches away from the trees around the front decking as they block most of the sun from the area which was a bit disappointing given the otherwise superb location.
Would have no hesitation to recommend to friends and also will return.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Tranquil Otter. The lodge was a great size, comfortable and well stocked. The bed was huge and really comfortable, the kitchen had everything you could need for a weekend away and the lounge was comfortable with views of the lake. The hot was huge and we made time to take a dip twice a day, looking out over the water. Would highly recommend this lovely place for some downtime.

There are plenty of things to do nearby. We've previous visited the Bird of Prey centre just along the road which was an amazing experience. It's about a 30 minute drive to the Gretna retail outlet and the Annandale distillery too. The Tranquil Otter provide lots of really useful information around walks, restaurants and things to do in the area.

My second stay at the Tranquil Otter to celebrate our second year anniversary. The first was in Chiffchaff and this time we stayed in Gadwall. Gadwall, just like Chiffchaff, was wonderful. We were gifted Prosecco and chocolates which was a lovely gesture. It is just pure bliss at Tranquil Otter and it never disappoints. The weather was gorgeous so we spent most of our time relaxing outside, saying hi to the swan and ducks that pass by and playing cards. We didn’t want to leave! We always recommend Tranquil Otter to all our family and friends.

This was our first stay at the Tranquil Lodge and it certainly won’t be our last! We needed a little break away from home and it was everything we could’ve asked for and more. The lodge is beautiful and the views were second to none. It was so peaceful and exactly what we needed. Our little dog Gracie loved watching the birds all day, and playing with the toy the otter team were so kind to leave for her. We will be regular visitors and recommend it to everyone! Thank you so much ❤️

Another relaxing stay in a lovely lodge. Thank you to Fiona for her help. Our only issue was getting a puncture from a nail in the car park as we left.

Lovely lodge, had a great weekend and highly recommend to everyone. Saw lots of interesting Roman history nearby, and spent the evenings relaxing by the lake.
Will be coming back!

We have been several times and we both enjoyed the peace and quiet. Above all the forest around the lake is like an 'adventure playground' for a ver happy springer spaniel. An hosepipe to help wash him down would be an asset. We were comfy, warm and had a good relax. The produce from the local butcher in Great Orton 'Mulholands' is outstanding and well worth a visit to stock up.

After a difficult and traumatic couple of years we wanted a quiet, luxurious retreat for a few days over Xmas this year. The Tranquil Otter provided exactly what we wanted and imagined. Although we were only a few miles from our home we could have been anywhere. Fabulous stay.

Clean, great size, all amenities provided.

Exactly what you need for a relaxing break. One of our best short breaks in the UK thanks to the ease of the whole process.

Highly recommended by us both and many thanks for taking a bit of the stress of life away - if only for a week! :)

Cant fault a thing - well maybe……..should have stayed longer!!!

Thanks to the Tranquil Otter team for making a week away easy, welcoming and seamless to organise!!

Book now as I even saw one customer has stayed here 84 times! Enough said, it was simply outstanding!!

THANKYOU

Visit number 84 ….. says it all really! We have been visiting the Tranquil Otter regularly over the past 19 years and we just LOVE it ❤️ The peace and tranquility is just what we need as I am the main Carer for my 88 year old father, so these short breaks allow us to relax and just ‘be’.

We had a great stay at Gadwall which was very peaceful. We enjoyed the hot tub on the decking. There was wildlife all around us and the lake just a few metres away. It was ideal too, for our dog who loved the walks around the cabin. We’ll be booking our return visit!

Second visit to the Tanquil Otter lodges. Even better on this visit as we were blessed with some good weather. Great to sit out on the decking, BBQ and a glass of wine. Home comforts in the lodge were first class. Hot tub clean and well cared for. The service from booking, arrival and departure was excellent . The northern lakes area is wonderful but virtually all the countryside is fenced off and usually with animals. For a dog owner the beautiful walk around the lake is perfect and that facility clinches it for us. I think our 4 yr. old springer enjoyed the freedom and the stay as much as we did. Will be returning. Thank you.

We have stayed at the Tranquil Otter over 70 times in the past 19 years. We first came for my Partner’s 40th birthday, and celebrated her 59th here last month. On this occasion, we were celebrating my birthday! We have come here to get away following the death of parents, when the world just gets too much, with friends and to celebrate. Whatever your reason for visiting the Tranquil Otter, you will find peace and tranquility. Gadwall lodge is a spacious one bedroom lodge, which has recently had a makeover. So much thought has gone into every detail and everything you could wish for is to hand. Waking up to the amazing views over the Lough is THE best start to a day. The hot tub is the cherry on the cake, and is a perfect end to a day. Our retired greyhound loves the freedom of being able to wander out onto the decking, as we have no secure outside space at home. We really cannot praise this little piece of paradise enough, but don’t just take our word for it!
