This former 17th Century farmhouse has been tastefully renovated to provide a spacious dwelling that combines its immense historical charm with modern luxury. Restoration and renovation work was completed in March 2013 by local craftsmen who have managed to retain the building's considerable charm and character whilst incorporating the very best of 21st Century technology.

The Old Farmhouse on the Hyning Estate is in a beautiful location, with breathtaking views across the surrounding countryside. It is within easy access to the Southern Lakes. It is furnished and equipped to a high standard throughout. The shared bathroom is spacious and the shower is fabulous. The only slight discomfort was the warmth of the house despite turning the heating down and opening the windows it was very hot which was a shame as we didn't get to use the log burner.
if you could also organise for access to the house to occur a bit earlier in the autumn/winter evenings that would be great as it is dark when you arrive at 16:00.

We're so pleased that you enjoyed your stay Val but slightly puzzled over your comments about the heating .. there are thermostats in every room which were set to 20C downstairs / in the main bathroom and about 17C in the bedrooms. This temperature is very comfortable to most guests who then adjust the temperature up or down slightly as required. The house is extremely well insulated with triple glazing and the concrete floors act like storage radiators so its important not to make large increases in the settings. Operation of the heating is described in the Welcome Guide. Many Thanks & bBest Wishes, Richard & Jan.

I loved how close to nature we were, wagtails nesting in the window box was glorious to see

Our only problem was the amount of flies in the property, but we know that can’t be helped…. I must have killed 50-100, so maybe a fly swat could be added

Yes Sarah its amazing how "friendly" the wagtails and blackbirds are, nesting in some quite public areas and (in the case of the Blackbirds) bringing up 3 sets of chicks. Sadly the House Martins seem to have deserted us this year but we hope they'll be back next year. Good to see you using our EV charging facilities which are immense and what a great idea to get an electric van! Do feel able to ask should you have any concerns - that's why we check in the morning after arrival. Best Wishes, Richard & Jan.

The Old Farmhouse was comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. The rooms were well equipped and of high quality throughout.
The hosts were available and responded immediately on the two occasions when we had minor issues.
The location is beautiful and access to the North Yorkshire Dales & Lakes was easy from the house.
Would suggest that:
1) explanation of water in the bathroom is provided in the bathrooms
2) an outside drying area is available to visitors (greener than using a washer dryer).

Thank you Kimberley, for reviewing your stay at The Hyning Estate - we're so pleased that you loved the cottage, had a great time and found us well placed for trips to the Lakes & Dales. It's been really challenging juggling different needs during the Covid crisis - it is our view is that we still need to remain cautious, safe & vigilant and so we retain our "firewalls" (safety gaps) between every booking and meticulous cleaning standards. Under normal circumstances we like to personally greet guests and explain how things (like the taps work) but we have put a lot of effort into videos, guides, and online information and we hoped that our temporary welcome email would be well-timed (a few days in advance) in order to direct you to the key things you needed to know before arrival (and for reference after). You may not have found the drying rack (under the stairs) which we agree is a far greener alternative to the tumble dryer (which is required to achieve our 5 star Visit England grade).

Lovely cottage in a very cosy great location to explore the lakes and national trust gardens. levens hall and gardens/sizergh castle worth a visit would reccomend staying here. Very helpful owners who made sure the cottage was safe and clean.

We're pleased that you all enjoyed the birthday celebrations and your visits around the many gardens in the Lakes (- isn't Levens just lovely!). Sorry we couldn't meet you ourselves - we were taking a few days off to meet our new Grandchildren in the South but you'll have met Richard & Sarah who were standing in for us and we hope to see you the next time you visit. Best Wishes, Richard & Jan.

We had a wonderful week in The Old Farmhouse. Richard and Jan couldn't have been more accommodating in terms of meeting our needs and flexing with the various lockdown changes that occurred. The property was immaculate and a real home from home. The kitchen equipment was amongst the best we have come across and we lacked for nothing. We also enjoyed a BBQ in April which was a real treat. The location is great for the Lakes and the Dales and Kendal is only just down the road with a great selection of shops. We would highly recommend staying and will be sure to come back again bringing our extended family when we are alllowed.
Thanks Richard and Jan for a wonderful, memorable stay.

It was so good that we could squeeze in your booking to take advantage of England's coming out of Lockdown before the children had to go back to school and that you could take full advantage of everything that the area has to offer. (Before moving to the Lakes we always brought our children to the Lakes for their annual holidays ... and we're still finding new things to do and places to go). Lets hope things carry on improving, Best Wishes, Richard & Jan.
