Bun Penny Apartment is a stunning, contemporary apartment on the seafront at Herne Bay. It boasts not one but two balconies, both with side sea views and both are fabulous spaces to socialise, sunbathe, read, relax and just enjoy looking out over the promenade and pier and the roof tops of Herne Bay.

This stunning apartment is stylishly decorated, light and spacious, and has a lovely large open plan living space. There are two bedrooms with comfortable beds and blackout blinds for the perfect nights sleep as well as two bathrooms, so perfect for couples or small families. There is the added benefit of private gated parking for one car as well.

You might wonder about the name of the apartment – the Bun Penny was the name of a former public house which was on the site of the apartment block. Whilst the pub was well known to locals, it became known nationwide after David Walliams and Matt Lucas of Little Britain fame filmed a number of ‘Edwardian Lady’ sketches in the pub.

Herne Bay is a fantastic coastal town, originally built by the Victorians for the London day trippers, hence the gorgeous Victorian architecture of the Captain’s houses on the seafront. Today it still retains some of the old-fashioned seaside charm of amusement arcades, mini golf and the pier rides which are so popular with children, but it also has some lovely restaurants and cafes, boutique shops and the popular Kings Hall entertainment building featuring many great theatrical and musical acts. You won’t struggle to find things to do in Herne Bay.

Should you want to travel further afield, there is a magical walk along the promenade to the iconic Reculver Towers, or in the other direction is the vibrant fishing town of Whitstable well know for its oysters and lovely arts and music vibe.

Bun Penny apartment is lovely. Very clean and well positioned. We could see the sea from the side balcony. Lovely for sitting out there in the sun.The double bedroom leads onto another balcony at the back of the property. There is parking for one car in the secure, gated car park. This is accessed from Charles Street due to the one-way system (see Google Maps). A lift took us up to the apartment on the second floor. The double bedroom has an ensuite. I had the twin bedroom and it was just a few steps across the hall to the bathroom. There are no light switches for the bathroom. It seems to work on motion detection (but not when a person is in the shower). The first time I was in the shower, the lights went dim after about 5 minutes. A minute later I was left in complete darkness, having to fumble around, hoping I wasn't washing in hair conditioner (all my bottles were the same). Once I opened the shower door the lights came on. From then on, when having a shower, I learned to open the shower door a few inches when the lights went dim. I would definitely go back to Bun Penny apartment if ever planning a holiday in Herne Bay now I know how to deal with the lights when in the shower. Everything else was great.

The apartment was quite spacious and well equipped. We did find that the central settee was a little sunken, but it did not really affect us. The central location was just right. We will certainly try to revisit.

2nd stay at the lovely Bun Penny apartment. Beautiful apartment with everything that's needed plus 2 lovely balconies to enjoy.
Added bonus that there's a lift for the less mobile. Would definitely recommend.

Group of four 60+ yr old school friends had the best time in this apartment. Stylish, comfortable, all the equipment you could possibly want, top quality outside furniture on massive terrace, perfect central location, yards from beach. We hope to be back

The apartment was stunning
It was lovely and clean
Having our morning cup of tea on the balcony overlooking the sea was really nice
Being seniors we had small problems getting up and down from the settees
We did experience a small amount of anti-social behaviour in the late evening but I am pleased to say that it did not spoil our enjoyment of the apartment
The apartment did not have the look or feel of a typical holiday let, it felt like a home where the owners were away for a few days

This is a lovely, well equipped spacious apartment. The location is very good but a little let down by the view of some of the surrounding buildings. Our stay was enjoyable apart from the incredibly uncomfortable sofas in the lounge area. This meant that we mainly sat at the dining table, which is not ideal for relaxing!
Suggest the owners invest in some new seat cushions as they are clearly beyond their best.
Would be happy to return if this was resolved.

Likes:
Bun Penny Apartment is on 2nd floor of a new block with lift. Gated access for one car. Gates are coded.
Beautifully furninshed, comfy bed and pillows, linen and towels etc very clean. The whole apartment is bright and sunny with everything you need - apart from a hair dryer! (I didn't pack one this time as most holiday homes have one or two).
Two side view balconies with seating, and you can see the sea.
Dislikes:
Building site to the side. On further investigation into the notes, this was mentioned but quite far down.
Indian restaurant also to the side. Warm evening = windows and doors open, but the smells drift in.
Both bathrooms have automatic sensors instead of switches so everytime you go in (even in the middle of the night) all the lights and the fan come on which run on for a while...

Herne Bay is mainly quite and clean, and there are some good places to eat. The Ship does good food, as does the little Italian a street or two away. We also had pancakes with lots of fruit for breakfast one day in the cafe on the corner. The are a couple of fab little micro pubs if you like them, particularly the Bouncing Barrel. Very friendly.
We got the bus into Whistable to meet friends for a lovely seafood meal at the Oyster House.

I would recommend but probably not go back ourselves.
NB: The Bun Penny was the pub that was originally on the site, named after Queen Victoria when she was young and had her hair in a bun. The money at the time all had this picture on the face i.e. the Bun Penny. We don't have a Bun Penny, but we do have a Bun Half Crown!

Lovely apartment with safe reserved parking. Clean and stylish. We did have issues with the gas oven which were eventually rectified. Side sea view was great but front view not so.
