Pebbles is a spacious and relaxed coastal home set just 150 yards from the quiet stretch of beach at Seasalter, with the bustling seaside town of Whitstable an easy walk or short drive away. Designed with comfort and togetherness in mind, Pebbles offers a welcoming place to slow down by the sea, whether that’s gathering around the fire on cooler days or making the most of long summer evenings in the garden. Arranged predominantly over one level, the house is particularly well suited to guests seeking ground floor living, with private parking on the driveway directly outside. Inside, the house sleeps six across three bedrooms, including two king rooms and a twin (all with comfortable Emma mattresses and Luxury Tielle bed linen and towels), alongside two bathrooms. A mezzanine bedroom sits above, while the rest of the accommodation flows comfortably on one floor. The living spaces are light filled and sociable, with lots of seating, a dining table for shared holiday meals and a fully equipped kitchen with everything you may need for home cooking. The wood burner and blankets make it cosy in winter, while thoughtful touches such as books, games and smart TV make it easy to feel at home. Outside, a private and enclosed garden provides space to relax and entertain, with outdoor seating, a barbecue and bar area, plus a separate garden playroom that keeps little ones occupied and keeps all the toys out of sight for adult only groups. Pebbles is particularly well suited to families or groups of friends looking for space and comfort all year round.

location: property is right next to a railway line and opposite a caravan park. we experienced excessive noise from both. we also (and this is nothing to do with keepers cottages or the owner but important to say) experienced some racially aggravated harassment from around the immediate vicinity of the property during our stay. the area felt quite hostile to Black people.

the following is edited/extracted from feedback email sent directly to the owner:

general cleaning and maintenance — we had a blocked shower, and a blind was hanging off the wall on arrival. the place looked as though it hadn’t been properly cleaned in weeks if not months. we had a nasty welcome in that the porch was littered with bits of rubbish and overgrown spider webs and debris. there was also a proliferation of cobwebs and spider webs (some with spiders living in them, some with dead spiders stuck in them) throughout the property, which was also generally covered in so much dust. not great for allergies. there was a clothes moth infestation in the property (they’re attracted to dust); and there were also silverfish found in the en-suite bedroom and kitchen. the hob was covered in grease and dried in food from previous guests. fridge was filthy, too. we were three nights into our stay before the issues were addressed by a cleaning professional — c, she was great.

the handyman, however, let himself in with his own key — without prior arrangement. it was terrifying to suddenly and inexplicably hear a random stranger man’s voice inside when we (four women) believed we were in privacy.

garden — this was in a very sorry state. bbq tools were filthy, debris everywhere. discarded furniture and broken(?) toys in the corner; everything covered in spiderwebs. bird poo on the chairs, which were also covered in spider webs. we barely used it despite the inviting weather because it was just not a nice environment to be in.

excessive heat — the house was punishingly ill-equipped for summer weather. we had highs of 27/28 degrees. the mezzanine was completely unusable because of the heat — the thermostat recorded temperatures of over 30 degrees up there in the evening and into/throughout the night. that’s not just a case of being uncomfortable; it’s an active health hazard to sleep in those conditions. the person in that room slept on the floor of the lower level of the mezzanine for the week. the fans provided in the rooms were horribly loud. it was impossible to get a comfortable and/or undisturbed night of sleep.

we paid £1850 plus travel and food cost. well over £2000 for a retreat, only to spend the majority of the time documenting and trying to solve issue after issue and sending emails trying to get the very urgent things fixed. we never did get a refund, just a very curt email from the owner implying we lied (even though we supplied many photos and some video evidence).

We were quite frankly blown away by the attention to detail in Pebbles Cottage. It really feels as if you are in someone's home, not a holiday rental, with so many home comforts and extras that normally aren't offered (such as playroom for children, an outdoor dining area, numerous places inside and out to chill). The welcome basket of treats was a lovely unexpected surprise too. A special thanks to Hayley, who manages the cottage. We try to avoid staying in rentals where owners/managers might visit in person as we just want peace and quiet and privacy. Hayley communicated via text which was perfect and she was very responsive when and if we contacted her. Would most definitely recommend Pebbles to anyone.

We booked this house as there were 6 adults on and off throughout the week and we wanted to be comfortable for space and room for 3 cars.
We definitely had this and it was very well furnished with all equipment we needed.
There was a bit of glitch with the water heating but that was easily solved with Hayley and didn’t spoil our holiday.
We did a lot of walking despite the rainy weather as it is right near the beach (although we had thought it was nearer to Whitstable than it was)!
Shame we couldn’t use the garden and bbq because of the weather but it did look good
