Poppy Cottage is the perfect holiday home for a romantic getaway, or a much-needed family break by the sea. Named after the family’s beloved pet, your four legged friend can join you as well.

The cottage is nestled in the pretty village of Kingsdown on the East Kent coast. It has a local store and post office, a butchers, and friendly pub. The beach is a few minutes walk away, where you will find The Zetland Arms, a lovely beach front pub that looks out onto the white cliffs.

Poppy Cottage is light and bright and beautifully decorated by the owner. It has an open space ground floor with sitting room and kitchen, with a large dining table and comfortable bench seating, and outside is a lovely long, fully enclosed garden laid to lawn and part decked to form a platform for dining. Upstairs are two bedrooms and a cloakroom.

From the cottage you can walk along the coastal path to Deal and Walmer in one direction and St Margaret’s Bay and Dover in the other, so plenty of things to do, places to explore and history in which to immerse yourself.

A nice week on the Kent coast

Poppy cottage is pretty, clean, well equipped and very comfy for 2 adults, but 4 adults would be difficult as there is only seating for 2 in the lounge (but plenty of room for 4 adults elsewhere). Good and well equipped kitchen. Not good if you have mobility issues as narrow stairs to get to the property and the main bed is placed directly on the floor so very low and difficult to get in and out of. It’s on a narrow road so parking immediately near the cottage for loading and unloading is tricky too, but we did always find a space within a few minutes walk. Very peaceful, a short walk to the sea (5 minutes) and 3 good pubs a similar distance away. Keepers Cottages staff were very helpful regarding a few maintenance issues we had.

We were disappointed with this property. A very late and as it turned out useless attempt to sort out a washer dryer as listed really upset our enjoyment - with two very young children it was a nightmare. We would NOT have booked it if no washer dryer - we would have gone elsewhere. It was also not that clean.

We enjoyed our stay here in this cosy cottage; it is conveniently located for dog walks and nice and quiet at night-time. It’s close to some lovely pubs and a great rock-pool beach (although the tide can move fast here). Plenty of castles nearby to visit and a good swimming pool in Deal if you have kids or like to slide. The cottage is well equipped with a nice garden area and allows a dog to stay. Lovely wooden floors throughout and a friendly and relaxed area to stay in.
