There is so much to say about this wonderful Grade II house that the space we have will not do it justice, so we strongly recommend you make a booking and see for yourself! It really is the perfect family holiday home and will make memories that will last for years.
Whitecliff is one of the very first bungalows built in the UK by architect John Taylor Seddon in the late 19th century. A major feature of the property was the tower so residents could look out to sea. Originally built as second homes for the wealthy Victorians, their selling point was the location, as the medical profession at the time was starting to advise on the healthy benefits of sea air and sea bathing. The Thanet sunsets attracted artists, including the famous Solomon J Solomon RA, who lived at Whitecliff for many years.
The current owner secured a number of prints of his artwork including a painting of the artist's family sitting in the Whitecliff drawing room. At the end of the garden hidden below and built into the cliff side is the artist Solomon's studio, currently closed for potential renovation. It can be seen clearly if you take a walk along the sea path below the cliffs and the house between Birchington and Epple Bay. One of his paintings, also displayed in the house, depicts a young girl standing on the roof of the studio gazing out to sea.
This spacious house has two large sitting rooms with sea views, both leading to a sunny garden room with sea views, five large bedrooms including the tower bedroom, and four bathrooms. The hub of the house is the kitchen with a large dining table and the perfect space for the entire family to come together at mealtimes. There is also a study with a desk and chair perfect for guests wanting to work away from home.
There are fabulous walks directly from the house – turn left and you reach Minnis Bay, with its wide sandy beach, a lovely pub and two cafes, and further on to the historical Reculver Towers, and to the right you reach Westgate on Sea, Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate for a wonderful walk embracing stunning sandy beaches, cliff tops, and lovely coastal towns each with their own character. The Viking Coastal Trail seafront cycle path passes the house, offering miles of traffic-free cycling, and cycle hire is available at Minnis Bay.
