We stayed at Combermere Abbey for 2 nights in Beckett Cottage. We were there for our son’s wedding. The whole stay/ experience was superb from start to finish.
Clean, comfortable, a well equipped kitchen. Some fab fresh supplies, milk, bread, jams, cereals, apple juice and more
Lovely and clean, smart fresh bedding and towels.
Lovely outdoor seating area, access to a bbq.
I would highly recommend and will definitely be booking to stay again.
In our cottage we were a party of six, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay.
One of our party left a dress behind and the staff promptly ( after a telephone call ) packaged it up and returned it in the post for her

Our wedding guests hired out all of the courtyard cottages to stay the night of our wedding and they are all beautiful! The cottages are very spacious, grand in decor and have everything you need. The estates team are very accomodating for our requests, from high chairs, baby gates and travel cots, to moving our bags from one cottage to another after getting ready on the day of our wedding. We would highly recommend staying at these cottages for a holiday or special occasion and we will be returning in the future to celebrate our anniversary, more than likely.

The grounds and property were lovely but so few facilities on site.
The bedrooms were all very hot at night and the accommodation very pricey for what it was.

We were staying for a wedding so a bit of a captive audience but wouldn’t stay there otherwise as there was very little to do other than attend the wedding.

My family and I stayed here for my nieces wedding. We were really impressed and inspired by the artwork, the high ceilings and large communal table. We enjoyed having a leisurely breakfast around that table and used it to catch up from the day before.
Would love to stay here again !

We rented Beckett Cottage alongside Wellington Cottage for a family get together. We couldn't have wished for better. There was plenty of space between the two cottages for our family of 11, but with the added bonus that the dining hall in Beckett could accommodate all of us (and possibly one or two more) for evening meals together. Everything was as it should be - clean, well equipped and comfortable. Combermere Abbey is in a wonderful location and offers the choice or relaxing within the peaceful grounds or visiting some of the easily reached attractions nearby, such as Chester Zoo, Hawkstone Follies or the Llangollen canal.

Becket Cottage was fabulous, the space in the dining room was amazing, my granddaughter loved the bright and airy theme throughout the house as we all did. We have stayed here three Christmas ‘ previously so we know about the lovely walks and beauty of the area and this visit saw more wild life than ever.

My daughters asked me to mention that in the ground floor double bedroom the window wouldn’t open , and being next to the kitchen , and being Christmas with the cooking, there are times some fresh air would have been welcomed. Also the upstairs double room , the bath was beautiful but the rinse off shower head didn’t work so they used a jug under the taps to rinse hair. Not complaints but politely mentioning them.

The cottage was so lovely and the perfect place to stay after the wedding. Which was the best day ever! The venue was incredible and the weather was phenomenal to match an exceptional day. The cottage was spacious and comfortable. It had everything you needed.

Another stay in the tranquil surroundings of Combermere Cottages. A family of six adults had plenty of room around a superior cottage called Beckett. As well as the comfort of the cottage, the grounds feel like they are yours, stately walled gardens, woodland walks and rolling farmland. I would recommend Combermere Abbey with its history, the owner’s dedication to restoration and the staff’s ability to make you feel welcome. 10 out of 10 stay from my family.

A family celebration of a 60th and other birthdays. W e were part of a party of 30 plus family members and partners. superb accommodation and surroundings. very comfortable accommodation and excellent facilities ( the only thing lacking was a toilet in the main area for guests who were not resident in Beckets) .A thoroughly enjoyable weekend Would well recommend this to others.

Always happy to be back at the Combermere estate, previously we have stayed at Stone Lodge or the North Wing so this was our first stay at Beckett Cottage, but certainly won't be our last. Really comfortable bedrooms, well equipped kitchen and the most spectacular dining hall! A great location for walks, and The Comebermere Arms at the top of the estate drive is always worth a visit for lunch or dinner.

We stayed in Beckett as part of a wedding stay - there were 5 of us across the three bedrooms and we had the loveliest stay. The dining area is superb and makes you feel like you're in a banqueting hall in a Hillary Mantel novel! The rooms are all a really good size with their own bathrooms - very clean and comfortable. Excellent kitchen for entertaining, lots of ovens and a huge fridge. Lovely fresh bread and apple juice in the hamper - maybe could use some fruit in there, also not quite enough for 5 people for 2 days but a lovely gesture. Check out was a painful 10am with another wedding in straight after but can't fault the grounds, cottage, facilities or staff - would 100% stay again.

We stayed in this cottage after my sisters wedding and it was just perfect. The size of the cottage was huge and the rooms are all really good size and nicely decorated. The breakfast hamper was a lovely treat for the morning. I was only sad we couldn’t stay longer.

A beautiful, peaceful location. Four of us , adults, stayed in Beckett Cottage which was full of character. The catering facilities were good, with an excellent supply of tea, biscuits and milk on our arrival. The dining room was extra ordinally large and tall.

Two of us were initially going to sleep in the upstairs twin room but we found it warm and stuffy, primarily because there was no opening window and the hot water storage tank was in the ensuite bathroom. The draperies around the bed also gave the room a claustrophobic feel. One of the guests was unsure about the stairs up to this room as the hand rail did not go all the way to the top. One must remember, however, that this room was really aimed at children who don't usually mind such things and probably enjoy its quirky features.

The twin room next to the shower was therefore put into use and was comfortable and airy and we enjoyed a good night's sleep. The double downstairs bedroom was excellent.

The shower was used by all the guests in preference to the baths which only had low level showers without a surrounding cubicle or curtain, a little unusual in modern day bathrooms. The shower water supply was hot and plentiful but the shower floor was very slippery. We asked for a non slip mat and this was promptly supplied. A shelf or basket to put toiletries on whilst in the shower would also have been useful.

All in all I would say the "pros" of the cottage outweighed the "cons".

We got married at Combermere Abbey on NYE 5 years ago, and were blown away with it then, and so were all our guests. We welcomed our first child, a baby boy, into the world in February and decided it would be an amazing first Christmas for him and also a wonderful 5 year wedding anniversary treat, to return over the festive period. We got in touch and the team were amazing in securing our original wedding cottage for the stay, we were so excited. Then the pandemic hit, and because we now live in Amsterdam it made it extra challenging for us to know if we'd get back. The team were incredible in offering us the flexibility as the situation unfolded, so that we didn't have to cancel. We only confirmed our stay very last minute but we made it over from Amsterdam.
The team were so welcoming to us, and every member of staff treated us with a warm and personal welcome and it was really lovely. The cottage was set up with everything we needed for our son, and we'd even been able to access the washing room, which is normally closed due to covid but as we had a little one (who generates a lot of laundry) we were able to use it. It's these small things that make a difference, and really take away the stress. Nothing was too much trouble for the Combermere team.
Once we arrived the UK changed the Christmas rules again, which also impacted international travel, which meant that we couldn't get home to Amsterdam on the date we originally planned and our flight was cancelled. This could have been so stressful, as this was our first time flying with our son and we were now stuck and didn't know when we'd get home. However, Rachel from the bookings team was incredible. Initially we didn't know how long we'd be stuck in the UK and she was so flexible in offering us lots of options, which immediately took away any stress for us, she just sorted it like a fairy godmother, which allowed us just to enjoy our trip and not waste precious holiday time having to sort out and stress about finding more accommodating. Also when the rules changed and we could get back to Amsterdam, she was the one sending us the updated travel info, that truly is going above and beyond! and we couldn't be any more grateful to her!
Combermere is a beautiful rural escape, a special premium holiday experience but offers that cosy home away from away vibe at the same time, it's hard to do both but they do. Sarah from the Abbey would stop and say hello when she drove past us, and asked us how our stay was going - all this adds to the truly personal experience that is hard to find these days.
The woodland walk is really great to have on your doorstep, especially if you have little ones of four legged friends and the Comberemere Arms is a great local pub if you want to eat out. The local sainsburys has everything you need if you just want to snuggle up in the cottage and not really leave the grounds. The venue and accommodation to us has always been special but given the new pandemic world were in, it also felt really safe during this time, we were able to live really peacefully and quietly whilst we were there, it's truly bliss.
The whole team are brilliant and couldn't make you feel anymore welcome - thank you!
We'll be going back again next Christmas and hopefully many more in the future.
If you are thinking of booking a stay, just do it, you won't regret it and hopefully you can make some wonderful memories like we have.

Lovely, well furnished cottage, ideal for a larger group (we were only 2). Very pleasant location, well geared up as a wedding venue. Although advertised as set in 1000 acres, it was disappointing to find there was very little opportunity to explore as access is very restricted. Close to Audlem & the Shropshire canal for pleasant walks. Nearby pub well worth a visit.

Combermere is a beautiful and tranquil place. The entrance gate for which we were given a code for entry to the estate was broken and looked like it had been laid on the grass after the entrance for months! This was not a very good first impression and felt unsecured. The signs to the car park were very clear and we easily found the car park and courtyard for the cottage. We were early arriving so decided to take the dog for a walk along the woodland walk......unfortunately it had a sign saying it was closed . We found the walk to the Mere which was stunning. The cottage was lovely, very country shabby chic, very comfortable with a great kitchen. My Grandson loved the Giraffes and Zebras in the 1st floor room. We did have to go and find more outdoor chairs to use, there were only 4 chairs for 6 of us. The grounds were beautiful however found there were too many signs saying No Entry to Cottage Guests. This made us feel a wee bit unwelcome! The woodland walk was only partially open on Sunday, it was closed through the Woods with a locked padlock on the gate. We made the most of the peace and quiet however and would re-visit in the future even with the restricted access. A must visit in the area was Snugburys Ice Cream ... delicious!!

After an extended search for any accommodation we were lucky enough to stumble upon Combermere Abbey. From our initial super friendly contact with the venue when they were extremely helpful we couldn’t believe how lucky we were. The estate is beautiful, the cottages atmospheric and stylish and the lake and greenery and gardens and maze more than we could have wished for!! We had breakfast outside every day and reluctantly left the location by midday, obviously after a walk to the lake a swim (which was not cold!). En-suite bedrooms were very comfortable and we all slept well. The atmospheric and striking dining room in Beckett cottage was a delight which we unfortunately didn’t have an opportunity to use but I am sure in colder months would be a wonderful place to eat. We couldn’t have been happier with our choice. Thank you.

We had not stayed in Beckett before, but were doing so due to the larger catering arrangements being available.
We were not able to use the dining room due to COVID restrictions, but due to the good weather, were able to accommodate our guests for meals, with appropriate social distancing outside.
Our only criticisms are as follows

Size of cooking pans and bowls inadequate for catering
Non-functioning garlic press
No salad bowls or servers
No mixer
Poorly controllable hob burners. Central burner did not function

Otherwise, good fridge , ovens and warmer.

We had a wonderful week getting together with family following the lockdown. Gardens are lovely to walk in albeit we managed to get lost in the woodland walk. Found places to eat in the locality using the information provided to us as not everywhere open due to Covid.

As part of my family booking of 3 cottages, my sister stayed at Beckett with her 4 children. We opened the door and WOW! That dining room is stunning, the decor was perfect. Blown away by this, everyone looked around the whole cottage and fell in love with it. Considering how big and open it is, it warmed up nicely and the whole family gathered to this cottage each night for dinner and games. The children loved the beds and found them very comfy. Immaculate and well looked after. The only slight issue we had was that the floor in the dining room was a little slippery (well waxed we imagine) and this meant my sisters 2 year old kept slipping over but was easily corrected by taking her socks off!
Fabulous cottage and my sister intends to return soon, bringing her husband too next time.

The cottages at Combermere abbey are all beautiful. We had our guests staying for 2 nights for our wedding and everyone commented how amazing they were. They are all spacious, well equipped and beautifully decorated. We will definitely be coming back to stay. Would 100% recommend!

Booked all the cottages at Combermere to celebrate my 50th birthday with friends and family. The sales and housekeeping staff were helpful and so accommodating for all our needs. Hired caterers on the Saturday to cook for 53 of us and serve in Beckett ! Fabulous space - team at Combermere set everything up and couldn’t have wished for a better night and trip ! This is our 2nd time here and we will he back - thank you

This is the second time we have stayed at beckett as it’s such a perfect place to host a large group for dinner and we are a big family. We love the size of it and it still retains that cosy feel due to the decor and fire.
One small observation is that it is slightly dated compared to Crossley next door especially the kitchen.
It was incredibly well equipped and very clean. Beds were extremely comfortable.
We wouldn’t hesitate in coming again!

This is our 3rd stay at Combermere. This stay was to celebrate our parents Diamond Wedding. Combermere is a beautiful and idyllic setting. The cottages are fully equipped for entertaining and are lovely and comfortable to stay in. Beautiful walks with or without dogs. Children are also well catered for as there is a tennis court, lake for paddling in and bikes to pedal around the estate.

Beckett Cottage provided ideal accommodation to entertain family and friends for this special occasion, however the cottage and in particular the sitting room is looking tired. The sofas, armchairs , cushions and covers all need replacing showing real signs of wear and tear and certainly do not replicate the photos on the website.
Some of the bedding also needs replacing.
It was extremely difficult to find any staff to communicate with during the weekend which proved frustrating when trying to sort out issues with guests arrival imminent. When finally located, staff were helpful.
Taking a walk in the grounds, we inadvertently took a wrong turn and were subsequently rudely told off and certainly not treated as guests by the owner! Not exactly conducive to being made to feel welcome, in fact quite the opposite.
I think all the stops are pulled out for a wedding but a different experience out of the wedding season.
I certainly would not class this property as 5 star .
On a very positive note I would highly recommend Sophie Fearnell as an outside caterer to provide food for a special occasion. She was wonderful and provided amazing food.
I would recommend this property with reservations.

What a stunning property in a stunning location. We were staying here for a friends wedding, perfect for pictures, Everything was perfect, and nothing was too much bother for the team on-site. The property was immaculately presented with lots of little touches like beautiful fresh flowers in the lounge and a personal tour of the property (This is one big cottage). Each room was themed and decorated in line with this (the upstairs bedroom was awesome!). Everyone commented how comfortable the beds were.

The breakfast hamper provided was full of amazing local produce and tasted amazing, I would not hesitate to reccommend this place to anyone.

We have been going to Combermere Cottages for a few years now. We have stayed in all but 3 of the cottages. We mainly take the grandchildren who can never wait to go back and enjoy the freedom of the woods, bikes and grounds. Staff are welcoming and the accommodation is always ready on time.

As a group we hired our Beckett, Callander and Empress.

What can I say other than the property is gorgeous. Situated in lush greenery and every cottage we had was beautifully decorated and very well equip.

Our group consisted of mainly couples and I can happily say it's the first accommodation we've stayed in where not one person was disappointed with their room as all were a fantastic and spacious.

We had an absolutely brilliant New Year and the staff were very accommodating, ensuring that the whole group were able to eat with each other in the Beckett cottage and use that as a base.

This has been our third stay in Beckett. The huge dining room with open fire is fabulous although we did miss having a fire in the lounge when we were snuggled up on the sofa (I know that these rooms used to be the other way round). I cooked full on Christmas dinner for 6 and the kitchen with 2 ovens coped admirably and there were lots of tureens, wine glasses and crockery available. The setting is superb and the various walks from your front door will keep you busy. Finally, sitting outside with a cuppa at 7am on Sunday morning listening to the woodpeckers was a real treat ! Thank you Combermere - I feel that we will be back.

We had this cottage as a hub for our family and friends the night before our wedding. This cottage has so much beautiful character and is the ideal place for a pre wedding celebration. Combermere provided a lovely gazebo set up from the front door too which provided us with extra space and the opportunity to enjoy the courtyard too. We had a roaring fire with food and drinks flowing, the perfect setting for our Autumn celebrations.

We ran a full day business workshop with 20 delegates at the Beckett Cottage. It was a fantastic venue with a beautiful dining room (used for presentations) and large living room used for break away sessions. The site is secluded and set within fantastic grounds. For us it was a great location and would make a top notch weekend away

We had a fantastic weekend together. The three cottages worked really well for us. They were spacious and comfortable, with character too. I loved the decor. We wished we had more time to explore the gorgeous grounds, but we were too busy playing rounders and eating! The service and attention to detail prior and during our stay was unusually helpful and efficient. Having booked many other group accommodations before, I was pleasantly surprised and grateful to see how well organised it all was. So thank you for that. I would like to return one day, hopefully for a longer period. I really would recommend, for all ages, shapes and sizes! From dogs to babies I mean!

We stayed in the Beckett cottage as part of a wider group booking at Combermere (30 people). The dining room was fabulous and ideal in enabling everyone to dine together. The only downside was that the kitchen wasn't very big. The beds were very comfortable and the upstairs bedroom was lovely, very characterful and sweet!

This cottage was furnished to an excellent standard. The dining room adequately accommodated our wedding guests with ease for our Friday evening house party and Sunday morning breakfast; this allowed the whole of the party to mingle and added a more personal slant to the celebrations.
The bedrooms were tastefully decorated and presented and the 'safari' theme was well matched to the decor and well appreciated.
The hamper of food was a delight and we really appreciated the fact that the produce was sourced from the local area; it was of great interest to our guests some of whom had travelled from afar. Well recommended.

We stayed at combermere abbey for my hen weekend and we were blown away by the property it was beautiful, Jean from the office helped us organise beauticians to come to the cottage we had a welcome pack, plenty of space everything you need. Highly recommend staying here you won't be disappointed.
