For a family holiday to Devon, Flint, one of the four cottages at Higher Wiscombe, is perfect for up to six guests, set in gorgeous countryside, at the centre of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural beauty, just a few miles from the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. With no traffic noise to break the peace, no pylons to spoil the views and no light pollution to hide the stars, Higher Wiscombe is just the place to escape the rat race and relax together.

Back in the seventies, the famous front man of The Shadows, Hank Marvin, lived here and always referred to Higher Wiscombe as his “Devon Estate”. There is even a plaque on the front of the farmhouse to celebrate the fact.

In more recent years, Higher Wiscombe has been transformed into four 5-star, gold award winning holiday cottages. Awards include Best Self-Catering Business and Best Dog Friendly Accommodation in England plus the prestigious Visit England Rose Award for outstanding customer service and a Green Tourism Gold Award.

There is a heated swimming pool and a games barn with table football and ping pong. The swimming pool is heated by a biomass boiler from May to October and guests staying at the cottages are given time slots for exclusive use.

The Higher Wiscombe cottages are surrounded by our 52-acre slice of Devon countryside, which provides amazing views in all directions and wonderful walks from the doorstep. Each cottage also has its own enclosed garden with quality dining furniture and gas BBQ's.

Stepping inside the cottages, the finish and furnishings are of the highest standards of contemporary comfort, with the traditional character of high beamed ceilings, exposed brick and stone, well equipped farmhouse kitchens with range cookers. Underfloor heating keeps the cottages lovely and warm in winter and the slate and tiles floors keep you cool in summer. All the cottages have meshed Wi Fi and large TV’s. All the bedrooms in all four cottages are ensuite and the beds are made up with cool, quality Egyptian cotton linen. We can help with baby and toddler gear including cots and highchairs.

Accommodation overview

Flint (sleeps 6 + baby and has been beautifully restored to combine contemporary comfort with traditional character, featuring high vaulted ceilings, exposed red brick walls and old oak beams. The living room, dining area and kitchen is open plan, with slate floors and underfloor heating, squashy sofas in front of a wood burning stove, a large flatscreen TV and oak dining table and chairs. Flint has meshed Wi Fi throughout.

The oak and granite farmhouse-style kitchen area is extremely well equipped, with a range cooker with gas hob and electric oven, large fridge/freezer, dishwasher, Dualit Toaster, microwave and there is a washing machine and tumble dryer in the Laundry cupboard.

All three bedrooms are carpeted with a wooden cot or travel cot available. All three bedrooms are ensuite and all can be six-foot doubles or three foot twins.

Flint has a private lawn garden and patio terrace, with far reaching views of the Devon countryside. For relaxing and dining outdoors, we provide quality external furniture and a Weber gas BBQ. Four legged friends are welcome in Flint with a dog crate and mat, bowls, pet throws and towel and treats all provided.

Weekend in Flint.

Having stayed at Flint Cottage a few years ago it was lovely to return and find all was just as top quality as we remembered.
The booking process was very efficient and extra requests to accommodate my elderly mother were complied with willingly. The new app was very useful to manage the booking and acted as a guide book during our stay.
We were greeted on arrival and made feel very welcome. Could not fault the accommodation. Thank you for the lovely memories we are left with.

We booked a last minute short break and had a really lovely stay. The cottage was very comfortable and clean. Lorna was so accommodating and made us feel so welcome. The grandchildren loved the swimming pool and had a great time. Situated in a very beautiful rural position and so very peaceful. We will definitely be returning.

The cortage was homely and very comfortable. We enjoyed the beautiful surroundings. Gorgeous skies at night with no light pollution.
The swimming pool was an added bonus, although it wasn't quite warm enough for me, but my son loved it. We loved playing table tennis every night in the games room. Location is excellent and we visited lots of beaches. The jurrasic coast is only 15 minutes by car. Beautiful!

I stayed with my 2 children who are now young adults and Flint was perfect for us. I was very excited to see they had a Britannia oven!! as I love to cook this was an added bonus.
It’s a great location for visiting many beautiful places in the area and the hosts were lovely.

I hope to return again soon

We stayed here during two weeks with 4 adults en 2 children.
We had a lovely stay, a very welcoming host, even prior to arrival by mail.
The house is clean and everything works and if there are any questions the owners are easy to contact en happy to help.
The pool was really nice, nice heated and a stunning view.
There is a fun game room, the table football was very populair with the children.

They have an active environmental litter policy, which we can only support, it would however been nice to also have a bin in the house for plastic en tetra-brick, since now we just left it on the floor untill we would trow it away in the bins outside.

Flint was a perfect location for a short break for 5 of us. Self-contained and virtually unaware of others in the sister cottages. In a valley with 360 degree views of surrounding countryside the terrace and barbeque made for idyllic evenings. The games room provided some light entertainment and the allocated pool times helpful. Higher Wiscombe is well located for trips out to coastal towns, walks and good restaurants. Our hosts were helpful and accessible and unobtrusive and we'd definitely recommend.

The cottage is in great condition with really good facilities and it was perfect for our company get together. The owners were helpful and unobtrusive and the wealth of information provided made organising a large gathering much easier. It was cosy in Winter but we hope to come in the warmer months next time so we can make use of the pool!

This was the perfect location to celebrate my 60th Birthday with family and close friends. The hosts recommended outside caterers that were familiar with the properties' facilities (Amanda) and they provided the most delicious 3-course meal for my guests on the Saturday night and cleared away too! The housekeeper Elaine was very friendly and on-hand to support any queries we had, for example, where could we find an ironing boards!
A fabulous time was had by all and the venue certainly added to their experience!
What a find! Thank you so much! Michelle

We had an absolutely fantastic stay in Flint with our two young children and our dog. The cottage is a perfect family retreat where we were able to relax and enjoy ourselves in the tranquil setting. We all loved the pool and swimming each day was a highlight for everyone. The cottage was really well equipped and had everything we needed and more - the EV charging point was also easy to access. The location is perfect for exploring the Jurassic Coast and we had a great time exploring the local area. There are also lots of fabulous pubs and restaurants nearby but our favourite meal was a BBQ at the cottage with supplies from Greendale Farm Shop which is definitely worth a visit.

We stayed in Flint Barn with friends for a midweek break and had a wonderful time. The properties are set in the glorious rolling countryside and just across the courtyard are fields for lovely off the lead walking with your dog. Flint Barn was so cosy with heated floors throughout (very nice indeed in the shower room) and a log burner in the main room with all logs provided, you just replenished your basket when needed from the store in the courtyard. We slept brilliantly, the beds were wonderfully comfortable and it is so quiet and dark at night. The property itself was also brilliant for dogs; with a contained small garden, slate floor in the main room, a cover for the sofa and dog towels provided everything was catered for - I don't think our dog has ever been so happy on holiday!

Although we were in a rural setting Higher Wiscombe is only a short drive from lots of attractions and we had lovely days out in Beer, Sidmouth and a tram ride to Colyton were highlights. The rest of the cottages looked amazing and we would definitely recommend and return. Thank you Lorna and Alistair for making us feel so comfortable we really appreciated it!

Beautiful place, outside pool was great for the kids and location was a great base to travel out to different places. Very dog friendly for well behaved dogs and very environmentally friendly. You can’t walk anywhere and need to try to local shops, pubs etc. But that didn’t bother us. Fabulous place to completely switch off and relax.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Flint Barn in July and were welcomed heartily by Lorna & Alistair. The location is fantastic with breathtaking views across the valley and excellent walks in every direction. The private gardens to the barns are well laid out and we did not really notice anyone else was staying in the other two barns. The pool sessions were a very good way of maintaining privacy throughout. The barn was nicely furnished with everything we might require and we felt very much at home.

In short this is an excellent place to stay in what is a really lovely part of Devon! We would not hesitate to return.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Flint Cottage. Made the most of the excellent heated swimming pool on the first day and all of the restaurants Lorna recommended through out the rest of the week. We were able to feel relaxed while still feeling like we could head out and enjoy the surrounding area.
The beds are huge and super comfortable. The dog proof garden at the rear of the cottage was incredibly useful for us with our dog. Alround excellent trip and we were already thinking about booking another cottage on site when we next get the opportunity!

We felt desperately in need of a relaxing break from our usual surroundings, having been working from home since the start of the pandemic, and Flint Barn provided just that. The accommodation was very comfortable and well-equipped and the beautiful location was the icing on the cake. It was the first time we had taken our dog on holiday with us, but everything we could have wanted for him was made available and this meant that we didn’t need to bring loads of doggy stuff with us. He also loved the outdoor space! Lorna was on hand to assist us with anything we needed, but this never felt intrusive. We enjoyed visiting Beer, Sidmouth and Exeter, plus we can highly recommend the local Indian takeaway, Jeffreys. All in all, our stay at Flint Barn was just what we needed and we’d love to stay there again.

Flint Barn was beautifully presented with everything you could possibly need plus the added bonus of a heated swimming pool (much loved by our granddaughter) and a charger point for our car.
The peace and tranquility, punctuated by birdsong and the occasional bleating of nearby sheep, provided a welcome respite from the cares of the last 15months. We were able to recharge and reset.
Thank you, Lorna and Alistair.

We had a very enjoyable stay at Flint Barn. The cottage is of a high specification and very comfortable. The setting - surrounded by many acres of rolling farmland - is beautiful. The hosts were on hand and friendly but totally unobtrusive.

The location is great - in lovely countryside but near the coast.

We’ve already booked a second stay.

This is the second time we have stayed at Higher Wiscombe, the first being in 2007 when our children were small (they are now 17 and 19). Flint Barn and the whole place was just as lovely as we remembered it and we all had a fabulous few days there after the months in lockdown staring at the same four walls of our home in Surrey! Alistair and Lorna were as friendly and helpful as ever and the extra touches in the cottage were very welcome and made our arrival even more special. This time we had a dog with us and the provision of crate, bowls, treats etc. for him was so helpful too.
Everything in the cottage is of a very high standard, the surroundings are idyllic, and we enjoyed walking in the grounds as well as exploring the coastal towns nearby.
We will definitely be back again, thank you Alistair and Lorna!

Beautiful location , tasteful and practical barn conversion full of lovely touches. Great, friendly hosts with plenty of local recommendations. Just the right spot to chill, enjoy the lovely countryside but with plenty of places to visit. Would love to return in warmer weather to enjoy the pool!

I thought it might be useful for me to write a review of Flint Barn from the point of view of someone with mobility issues and with a crawling grandson in tow! Not surprisingly making sure that accommodation is suitable is really important and Flint Barn did not disappoint.
After a conversation with Lorna she made sure that the wet room came with a raised loo seat and a shower stool which meant less packing for us. The bedroom had touch lamps and a chair with arms. Lorna very kindly swapped one of the sofas for a lovely comfy chair which also gave the grandson more room to whizz about! One of the dining chairs also had arms. It’s obvious that these issues have been addressed with a great deal of thought. Add to that a beautiful setting, a lovely enclosed garden, a swimming pool with stunning views and you have a perfect holiday home. We were also very lucky to enjoy a week of sunshine in this beautiful part of the country.
My daughter also prompted me to mention that being rewarded with champagne and chocolates for a temporary interrupted view that was no big deal was gratefully received! Such a lovely thoughtful gesture from our lovely hosts.
We are all living through uncertain and worrying times times and for people like Lorna and Alistair who have clearly put their hearts and souls into providing exceptional accommodation I really wish them all the very best for the future. They deserve it.

We came to Higher Wiscombe to check out if it would be a suitable venue to host a sixtieth birthday celebration and it exceeded our expectations. The Flint Barn was well equipped, comfortable and tastefully furnished, with its own private garden and barbeque facilities and from what we saw of the other buildings, they were all of the same very high standard.

Set in idyllic surroundings the complex has the added bonus of an outdoor heated swimming pool, with each building having its own set time for private use.

Our hosts, were welcoming and helpful , providing information and recommendations on local walks places to go and restaurants. We had a splendid few days here and look forward to returning sometime in the future.

We have had a lovely holiday at Higher Wiscombe at a difficult time. Lorna and Alistair were brilliant with their communication around what was happening over Covid 19 and I cannot fault their handling of our booking and the steps they have taken. The place is set in the most beautiful surroundings and L & A were always on hand to help in any way necessary. The barns are well stocked and comfortable and the swimming pool was lovely and warm.

The flint barn was perfect. I'm a support worker and had arranged to come here to take the people I support for a little getaway. I needed somewhere which was going to fulfil the needs of the people I support, I spent hours trying to find a convenient place and that's when I found the flint barn. Lorna was lovely she rang me beforehand to confirm everything, I told her that the people I support have disabilities and she made sure their stay was as smooth as possible. We were expecting to have to check out early as in most places this is the case but she said we can leave whenever we were ready which was a massive bonus as the morning's can be pretty hectic. she also allowed us to park right outside to make things easier.

We rented the Flint Barn along with the other barns at Higher Wiscombe for our 40th Wedding Anniversary. There were 28 of in total and the delight with these properties is that all rooms have their own en suite facilities. The Flint Barn is totally self contained with three king bedrooms that can be used as kings or twins. Our friends who stayed in the barn all said how comfortable the beds were and enjoyed the high quality soft furnishings of sheets and towels. The colour scheme is bright and attractive and the barn was exceptionally clean and well prepared for our visit. Really important for the women - hair dryers in every room! There is a good sized kitchen and lounge area and a private garden. The barn is ideal for a family or as in our case for three couples. There is a swimming pool on site but sadly our weather was not good enough to enjoy it. The location is simply wonderful - really in the heart of the Devon countryside - we were entertained by what seemed to be thousands of pheasants!! And it was so quiet and peaceful. A big bonus is that the site is dog friendly. Would love to come back - Lorna and Alistair ware brilliant hosts!

We had a wonderful stay at flint barn. Plenty of room for 6 of us ( 2 adults and 4 teenagers). Each bedroom has an en suite and there's a roomy open-plan kitchen diner and lounge between the bedrooms.
We were blessed with good weather when we were there so ended up cooking on the huge BBQ most of the time.
The kids loved the pool and maximised every minute of our allotted time. It's shared between the other two properties on site but done on a rota so you have a couple of slots a day. This worked well.
The property is well equipped. Even an electric whisk in the kitchen which the kids used to rustle up pancakes for breakfast one morning :-)
We didn't explore the area as much as we thought we would as kids were so happy just chilling at higher wiscombe.
A stunning property in a stunning location. Can highly recommend.

We booked Flint Barn along with the two other properties as we were a large family group celebrating two very important birthdays. Our friends stayed in Flint Barn with 3 of their children. They loved it there and it was just perfect. The kids were in the pool every day as the weather was good and the pool was heated.
Great place to stay in the middle of beautiful countryside. Will definitely recommend.

Alistair and Lorna are such lovely hosts; so warm, kind and caring. Beautiful cottage, we felt at home straight away. Wonderfully situated with fantastic views and wildlife. We really couldn’t have wished for anything more. Our 18 month Australian Labradoodle, Rico, was rather taken with Higher Wiscombe too (thank you for your patience when he couldn’t resist showing his excitement!!) Would thoroughly recommend and can only imagine how lovely it would be to stay in the summer with the facility of the swimming pool. Thank you once again to such a lovely couple!

A really lovely stay, all comforts provided, fluffy towels and constant hot water. LOrna sorted out the only problem we had promptly. thank you. We found the sinks in the ensuites very tiny, and the one in the bottom bedroom very splashy. However this is being very picky, and we would DEFINATELY stay again. A beautifully appointed house, warm and a wonderful location.

We have stayed at Flint Barn twice and the owners are always very helpful and as they are on site very responsive to any queries or issues. The living, dining and kitchen space is a little tight in Flint Barn (there were 2 adults and 2 teenagers this time) but it was fine as we were out most of the day on beautiful local coastal and country walks. I would imagine 6 adults in the living space would be a little tight.

The cottage was well equipped (including a dog crate, towel, bowls and blanket) and really handy to have an enclosed garden space for the dog. All bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms which worked well and the kitchen had all basic essentials. Great also to have access to a games room and pool for the days when we spent more time in the cottage.

Plenty of local pubs if you don't fancy staying in to cook - we went to the Anchor in Beer and The Holt in Honiton - both were very good.

A very pleasant stay with lovely owners and a fab location. Hope to be back soon!

Our stay at Higher Wiscombe exceeded our expectations. A very relaxing location with excellent accommodation and many acres of land to enjoy countryside walks with our family Labrador . We will definitely consider returning in the near future and hope to do this with our son and daughter and their respective partners in tow for an extended family holiday . The accommodation at Higher Wiscombe provides a great variety of holiday options and importantly is dog friendly to allow the family pet to enjoy the stay at the same time.

Fantastic holiday; great staff and a top class country location; very enjoyable. Pool was great. The cottage was very cosy; with a lovely log fire. Location was central to many attractions. A family gathering of 30 at Higher Wiscombe with our own family in Flint Barn. Fully equipped accommodation with good quality appliances and our own garden but easy to access the Winery across the courtyard along with the pool and games room. Comfortable beds although undersheet too small for the mattress. A wonderful stay in a beautiful quiet part of Devon.

Higher Wiscombe proved a picture perfect location for a family reunion/holiday. The facilities enabled us to withdraw to smaller areas of barns [eg. Flint Barn] or to gather "en masse" inside or outside the Winery. All supplies needed to cater for a crowd are provided, equipment needs for infants or infirm are available. Concerns were addressed without delay. I have no hesitation in giving Higher Wiscombe my highest recommendation.

We were looking for a good quality, quiet self catering place to stay which would accommodate a dog and two children. Higher Wiscombe was a fantastic choice. Some dog friendly places can really let themselves down, but Higher Wiscombe keep their properties and facilities beautifully. Three bedrooms and three bathrooms worked really well with two teens, and a lovely enclosed garden area suited the dog, although she liked to bark at the sheep, and guard the driveway!
The surrounding valley is beautiful and peaceful, and can be explored with or without a dog, with plenty of wildlife and livestock.
The rotating system of the pool ensures you can used it each day, at different times to fit in with your day's schedule.
The hosts' attention to detail inside and out is great, and there is always someone around if you need any help, although the cottages are very easy to use, and well equipped with kitchen and cooking facilities.
We throughly reccommend this accommodation, and the surrounding area of East Devon, which feels less busy than neighbouring regions. There are plenty of dog friendly pubs and attractions too.

We stayed at Flint Barn for a midweek break and had no idea of the fantastic peaceful location that this property offers. The owners have provided everything you can think of for a perfect stay, including extra disability aids for one of our party with mobility issues. Extremely clean , comfortable quality accommodation set in wonderful countryside. Our neighbours for the week were some ruby red Devon cattle, a flock of Suffolk X ewes and a very territorial cock pheasant who chased the car up the drive every day! Simply just wonderful!

We took all three of the lovely buildings here for a long weekend at the beginning of June - a party of 26 although we could have easily accommodated 30.
Lorna and Alistair (the owners) could not have been more helpful in providing us with "the inside track" on setting up the place for an informal supper on the Friday night and a dinner party with all of us at one table on the Saturday night (with dancing afterwards!) in the Old Winery.
My guests loved the fact that they all had great rooms all with en suites and could stagger back to bed as and when they deemed that they had consumed/danced enough.
The location is superb (even in the rain!) - we already knew it wasn't in a village (with pubs, shops etc) so that was not an issue but that is the only thing that could have made it any better as far as I am concerned. Everyone had driven down (loads of parking) so daytime sorties to the beaches and cliffs walks (and other sites in the surrounding areas) were popular.
we certainly hope to come back again soon!

Three generations of our extended family had taken over the complex of barns over 30 people in all at times. The range of onsite facilities - pool, games room etc made it ideal for all generations. There was easy access to interesting attractions off site.
The Flint Barn was light and airy. Our son and his family had the two bedrooms at one end of the barn and we were at the other end so not disturbed at all. The barn was equipped with everything we expected and was ideal for family living.

Flint Barn is a smaller cottage with good sized bedrooms en suite and nicely furnished. The lounge area was a little small for 6 adults but the cottage was in very good condition and well equipped in the kitchen and bathrooms.

In a lovely position with magnificant views and part of a very well presented complex. We didn't get chance to use the cinema room, but will do on next visit.

Will be returning.

Excellent accommodation and facilities, the house was clean, tidy and comfortable! Surroundings were amazing and it was a shame to leave.
I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a place to relax and enjoy the English countryside, great on its own as 6 people sharing but even better with a big crowd when booking the other properties on site as well.
I couldn't rate this place or the owners any higher!

We booked the old winery and the flint barn for a 50th birthday party, the accommodation was excellent, with all rooms in excellent condition with fantastic facilities a lovely quiet area with plenty of walks to do. Used one of the recommended caterers Brenda on the Saturday evening, she and her daughter Alison were great and the meal was beautiful.

As a family of 26 we rented the Flint Barn for a long weekend, along with the Thatched Barn and The Winery to accommodate us all. The Flint Barn was absolutely perfect - well thought out with facilities that were of a very high standard: Beds were exceptionally comfortable and each room having their own en-suite was invaluable. The kitchen was very well equipped and there was nothing that we could see that was lacking (we often do in other rentals!) The cottage had lots of board games and books, along with plenty of information on the area, there was great attention to detail. We loved the fact that there was a log burner and a doggy welcome pack. Most important though was the warm welcome we received from Alistair and Lorna and their desire to do everything that they could to make the experience of the weekend as smooth and enjoyable as possible for everyone. THANK YOU - we hope to return in the future.

We were pleasantly surprised when arrived at the lovely Flint Barn. It looked good in the photos but exceeded our expections in reality. Our dog was over the moon when he went into the large fully enclosed garden. He liked to watch the pheasants that were wandering around in the field behind us. The grounds are huge with lovely walks to enjoy. We had booked a 4 night stay but will defintely book for another stay next year.

We had a lovely short break at The Flint Barn, very comfortable and very well equipped. We took our Miniature Schnauzer with us who loved the large enclosed garden but loved all the acres he could run around even more! We went to lots of lovely beaches and coastal walks which were only a short drive away. We will definitely be recommending Higher Wiscombe to family and friends and will be returning ourselves.

+ lovely patio and private sunny garden with super Weber BBQ and private parking. Oven and sink excellent.
_ slightly cramped seating for 5/6 adults with baby high chair and no place for a baby to crawl. Bedding and pillows rather thin. In certain bedrooms there was limited storage space and therefore few surfaces to put anything on. Washbasin was too narrow.
But overall these were inconveniences and none of them really mattered in such a beautiful setting The young adults enjoyed hiking abd going for runs and there was an enclosed mown field for ball games.

The Flint barn was well designed and clean with a lovely secluded outside space set in a beautiful location. The owners were welcoming and friendly without being intrusive. There was a swimming pool, games room and ground to play football etc and plenty of space for us to do other activities. Bit pricey but would love to return at some time in the future.

This is a lovely cottage, in a peaceful location and the customer service was great - we went with my dad who is disabled and they really tried to cater for his needs. The cottage was well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine & tumble drier etc, with all detergent supplied. You also got a welcome box of local items on arrival and the dogs got their own welcome box too! there were a few minor issues with the hot water & heating but they were quick to get someone to look at it (although it couldn't be fixed while we were there - but it didn't cause any major issues). Also when we arrived we had to ask for the frying pan and 'information pack' as they had been moved out of the cottage, and there was only one key between us all which was a bit awkward. The toilet in the main 'disabled access' room was also quite close to the wall, which made it hard to use as the toilet roll holder stopped you sitting straight. But overall this was a great place to go, and I'd recommend it. The dogs loved walking round the fields and the owners were friendly.

Deborah from Hatfield stayed at Flint for 7 nights in July 2016

Thanks for the detailed review which we appreciate. We apologise for the minor issue with the pan and information book, many bookings here are for multiple cottages and everything that you can imagine gets moved around from cottage to cottage. That's no excuse, just to explain. It does though show the benefit of us being nearby that we are able to resolve issues such as this quickly. One key? Again, not acceptable, and we will double check this going forwards. We're really pleased though that overall it worked really well with your Father. You did exactly the right thing, calling before and going through all the details to make sure his stay was as comfortable as possible. Thank you for coming and hope to see you again soon. Kind regards Lorna

We rented the Flint Barn and The Old Winery. We could not have chosen a better venue. The attention to detail that the owners have given to the renovations is first class. The properties are beautifully converted and very well equipped.

As well as the stunning location views we made good use of the games room and the heated swimming pool. All in all I would say that all 27 of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would all recommend highly to others.

We rented the Old Winery and its companion holiday properties the Thatched Barn and the Flint Barn for one week for a combined annual family party and 60th birthday and 21st birthday celebrations. It was an amazing event and the three properties contributed greatly to its success. All the 32 people who stayed (plus the handfful of those who were accomodated elsewhere) praised the setting, the quality of the farm building conversion, the general levels comfort, and how well-equipped each property was. We self-catered for that number every night and we had everything we could possibly have needed. The hosts Lorna and Alistair could not do enough to make our stay a success (including arranging a sheep shearing demo for the kids). It would be difficult to praise the places too highly. As for location, we again could not have hoped for better. The hill and valley rural setting makes for views to die for; the three units are within 10 minutes of a Tesco and about 12 minutes of an excellent Waitrose; a number of charming Devon seaside towns are very close; and getting there is easy with a mainline station at Honiton 10 minutes away and Exeter Airport 20 minutes or so. Our guests used both.

Very much enjoyed our stay at Higher Wiscombe. Hosts were very welcoming. The location is convenient for local attractions but at the end of a long lane also feels like you are "away from it all".

We took a group of 26 leaders from the Lighthouse Church in Poole away for a 3 day training session. We found Higher Wiscombe to be perfect for our needs and Lorna and Alistair were excellent landlords, friendly and always available to help out with queries. The accommodation has been renovated to the highest standard with each of the 16 rooms having a large comfortable bed and its own high spec bathroom. The only slight disappointment was that the underfloor heating was so efficient that we never got to use the wood burning stoves! Higher Wiscombe is a truly beautiful and high quality holiday home - I can recommend it without reservation.

Lovely week away in Devon. Flint Cottage was perfect for our needs - comfortable, well equipped and very dog friendly.

It was a great base for exploring the local area - although for those doing it on foot or on bike be aware Devon is not flat, there is a relatively steep hill just to get out of the property.

Owners were friendly and helpful and the (very warm) pool was a hit with our group.

We spend an enjoyable two weeks in the Flint Barn. There were 5 of us during the first week. The bedrooms were very comfortable and clean. The kitchen and main living quarters were very well appointed.

We benefited from access to the pool and the "cinema" which was useful on those evenings when we all wanted to watch a DVD. Pool access seemed a bit restricted given that all the properties were not occupied and others did not seem to take up their turns. We would have used it more.

We used the garden on a few occasions and would have used the barbecue had the weather been kinder.

The location is great as long as you are looking for isolation and peace and quiet, which we were.

We also appreciated access to the wider property and the bridlepaths that crossed it.

All in all it was great, thanks to Alistair and Lauren

As you meander down the long driveway you know your going to arrive somewhere very special. We stayed at the Flint barn which is 1 of 3 barns with stunning views of the Southleigh valley.
The barn layout and decor are superb and of a high standard and home from home as extremely well equipped including a cupboard with laundry white goods & that acts as a great airing cupboard to wash & dry walking gear. Outside garden space was exclusive and not overlooked with Bbq area & equipment.
The location was truly peaceful and tranquil to truly chill out on our non walking days. Great to have sheep and chickens as neighbours. The outdoor heated swimming pool has amazing views and is on a rota with 2 daily slots for exclusive use which we used when not too tired after our long walks.
The barn is situated close to the Jurassic South West coastal path. We parked our car for the day at starting point and done 4 different coastal walks and got the bus back. The X53 serves the Jurassic coastline. The No. 899 bus from Sidmouth to Beer is an experience not to be missed! The scenery is outstanding and looking forward to completing the remaining 45 miles next year in Dorset. Hope we find accommodation as fabulous as the Flint barn in Devon.

A wonderful place to stay in a very rural location. Good facilities, brilliant for bringing my dog and making him comfortable-very dog friendly.
Very warm and cosy with log fire. Endless areas to explore and good information about local areas to walk and eat out.I wish we could have stayed longer.

We had a lovely week staying in Flint Barn. There were 6 of us - 2x parents, 2x teenagers and 2x 20s, so in essence 6 adult sized people which was ok for a week but the living area was quite tight with everyone's junk - laptops, tablets, shoes etc, which is where the 'media' room came in handy so the kids did the X-box/DVD thing leaving us all some space!

The kitchen was very well equipped and had a good amount of mugs and glasses so you weren't forever having to wash up!

The bedrooms were tastefully done though if no chest of drawers are provided then a few more hangers are needed. The wet room in the master bedroom was very tasteful though I struggle having to walk about the room with the floor all wet after a shower and for a few hours following, but that's maybe me being fussy!

I could not fault the owners, they bent over backwards to be helpful and accommodating, they know the area inside-out and could tell you information you want to know.

Beware the kamikasi pheasants!

In all, this is a wonderful base to explore an amazingly beautiful area of Devon

This provided an "overflow" for a large family gathering based at the Old Winery. It was well supplied and provided an alternative venue for small groups to chat. As such it was not used as much as would have been the case had it been a single booking or had the weather been less good.
The overall standard of the accomodation was excellent.

A magical place! Perfect to explore East Devon and a most wonderful holiday home away from home!

Thank you Lorna and Alistair for sharing your amazing home with us. Anya would like us to take her back to 'The Holiday House' so we might just have to come back soon to enjoy your wonderful views, land, trees and the lovely Flint Barn!!! x

We were lucky enough to stay in the Flint Barn (4 adults and 2 youngsters) during the balmy week in April. The landscape was bursting with Spring lambs, pheasants and an endless variety of birds. The views up and down the valley were spectacular. Walking was essential to appreciate them fully. We also loved the private garden, the barbecue facilities and the fact that all our bedrooms had private en-suites.
Lorna and Alastair were right there if you needed them and even though the other two barns were fully occupied you never felt as though your utter peace was compromised in any way. A delightful part of our blessed country made special by the people in charge and also by the gorgeous places nearby. Thank you.

We had an amazing time at Higher Wiscombe over a long weekend to celebrate my 30th birthday. We had all three properties which meant the 32 of us could really spread out and relax when we wanted, but also be together in the bigger rooms in the Old Winery which were just fantastic! We had a drinks 'reception' in the Thatched Barn on the Saturday night followed by a curry buffet by Linzi Barbor (which was delicious!) in the Old Winery and played music/danced in the Dining Room downstairs was was brilliant. This all worked perfectly and we couldn't have had a better setting! It is unbelievable that all the rooms are so comfortable and have very modern en suites - country luxury!

Flint Barn is an extremely comfortable conversion with three good-sized double bedrooms which are all ensuite. The open-plan layout of the kitchen/dining/stting-room area is great for socialising whilst cooking/preparing food in the well-equipped kitchen area. The owners were very helpful and friendly and quickly sorted out all the very minor issues we had. We were welcomed with several luxury items to help with our New Year celebrations and were included along with the owner's own guests in a great display of fireworks during New Year's Eve. Our dog was made especially welcome and a great deal of thought had gone into provisions for him including dog treats, toys and throws to put over the sitting-room furniture. The private garden is also small-dog proof which is an added bonus & there are large fields available for dog walking onsite.
Good to see extensive recycling facilities available to all.
Local area is good for walking and paths can be accessed directly from the owner's property. Easy access to the coastal path is a short drive away.

Thanks Lesley, much appreciate the review and really pleased the dog had a great holiday too. Sorry that the fireworks were a bit drenched by the downpour, not quite the plan but fun all the same. Hope to welcome you back again.
