For a large group get-together in Devon, booking both The Winery and Thatched, two of the four cottages at Higher Wiscombe, is perfect for up to twenty six guests, set in gorgeous countryside, at the centre of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural beauty, just a few miles from the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. With no traffic noise to break the peace, no pylons to spoil the views and no light pollution to hide the stars, Higher Wiscombe is just the place to escape the rat race and relax together.

Combining The Winery and Flint gives you 13 ensuite bedrooms, four of which have to be six foot doubles, one has to be a five foot four poster, and 8 can be six foot doubles or 3 foot twins. There is ample space in The Winery for up to 34 to dine together inside and out, and to sit together inside and out.

Back in the seventies, the famous front man of The Shadows, Hank Marvin, lived here and always referred to Higher Wiscombe as his “Devon Estate”. There is even a plaque on the front of the farmhouse to celebrate the fact.

In more recent years, Higher Wiscombe has been transformed into four 5-star, gold award winning holiday cottages. Awards include Best Self-Catering Business and Best Dog Friendly Accommodation in England plus the prestigious Visit England Rose Award for outstanding customer service and a Green Tourism Gold Award.

There is a heated swimming pool and a games barn with table football and ping pong. The swimming pool is heated by a biomass boiler from May to October and guests staying at the cottages are given time slots for exclusive use.

The Higher Wiscombe cottages are surrounded by our 52-acre slice of Devon countryside, which provides amazing views in all directions and wonderful walks from the doorstep. Each cottage also has its own enclosed garden with quality dining furniture and gas BBQ's.

Stepping inside the cottages, the finish and furnishings are of the highest standards of contemporary comfort, with the traditional character of high beamed ceilings, well equipped farmhouse kitchens with range cookers. Underfloor heating keeps the cottages lovely and warm in winter and the slate and tiles floors keep you cool in summer. All the cottages have meshed Wi Fi and large TV’s. All the bedrooms in all four cottages are ensuite and the beds are made up with cool, quality Egyptian cotton linen. We can help with baby and toddler gear including cots and highchairs.

This is the second time I have stayed. Once on a work leadership event and then this time as part of a wider family get together (25 of us!).

Great facilities. Perfect location for exploring and the large central table meant we could all eat together each evening.

Having the other two ovens in the pantry allowed us to successfully cook Sunday roast for 25 in one go too!

The only recommendation would be for a mirror opposite the driveway onto the main road, as pulling out on to the road is obscured by the height of the hedgerow.
