For a large group get-together in Devon, booking The Winery, Flint and Thatched, three of the four cottages at Higher Wiscombe, is perfect for up to thirty two guests, set in gorgeous countryside, at the centre of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural beauty, just a few miles from the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. With no traffic noise to break the peace, no pylons to spoil the views and no light pollution to hide the stars, Higher Wiscombe is just the place to escape the rat race and relax together.

Combining The Winery, Thatched and Flint gives you 16 ensuite bedrooms, four of which have to be six foot doubles, one has to be a five foot four poster, and 11 can be six foot doubles or 3 foot twins. There is ample space in The Winery for up to 34 to dine together inside and out, and to sit together inside and out.

Back in the seventies, the famous front man of The Shadows, Hank Marvin, lived here and always referred to Higher Wiscombe as his “Devon Estate”. There is even a plaque on the front of the farmhouse to celebrate the fact.

In more recent years, Higher Wiscombe has been transformed into four 5-star, gold award winning holiday cottages. Awards include Best Self-Catering Business and Best Dog Friendly Accommodation in England plus the prestigious Visit England Rose Award for outstanding customer service and a Green Tourism Gold Award.

There is a heated swimming pool and a games barn with table football and ping pong. The swimming pool is heated by a biomass boiler from May to October and guests staying at the cottages are given time slots for exclusive use.

The Higher Wiscombe cottages are surrounded by our 52-acre slice of Devon countryside, which provides amazing views in all directions and wonderful walks from the doorstep. Each cottage also has its own enclosed garden with quality dining furniture and gas BBQ's.

Stepping inside the cottages, the finish and furnishings are of the highest standards of contemporary comfort, with the traditional character of high beamed ceilings, well equipped farmhouse kitchens with range cookers. Underfloor heating keeps the cottages lovely and warm in winter and the slate and tiles floors keep you cool in summer. All the cottages have meshed Wi Fi and large TV’s. All the bedrooms in all four cottages are ensuite and the beds are made up with cool, quality Egyptian cotton linen. We can help with baby and toddler gear including cots and highchairs.

We had an excellent 4 days here with plenty of room for all. Our hosts were so nice. It's hard to come up with anything negative except the "iffy" wireless connections! We will be back.

I knew this place would be good but it was more than good. Everything was finished to a really high standard, there was no bad option for bedrooms, every one having a beautiful ensuite and for most (or all?) there was an option for it being a twin or double. The main space downstairs in the winery was plenty big enough for our party of 27, its bigger but more warm and homely feeling than I expected it to be, the sofas were all really comfortable. There was loads of fridge space and what a treat for Lorna to have unpacked and put away our shopping delivery for us before we arrived.
The views were amazing. We all want to return in the summer so we can enjoy all the outdoor seating with views and the pool! The three extra cottages were all beautiful too. Everyone in our group was asking me how I had found such a perfect accommodation.
Lorna was on hand throughout to assist with anything we needed but thankfully didn't seem to mind the party going on all night - I guess its because we were far enough away and the sound (hopefully) was just heading out over the fields as their house is in the other direction to where we were facing.
Cannot recommend highly enough.

So I hired the entire place for my 50th, a couple of weeks ago. This was my 2nd time staying at Higher Wiscome & it just gets better & better! I previously stayed there two years ago for my brothers 50th and since then, there is a new cottage "Hank" which is stunning and really top end and the pool area has had a re-vamp and is amazing. The owners Lorna and Alister are super friendly and accommodating. They very kindly unpacked our Waitrose shopping. The entire place is of a very high standard in stunning surroundings. All my guests were blown away with just how nice this place is. I cannot recommend this place enough, if you are looking for a venue for a large amount of guests then look no further. We will be back again for sure. thank you so much Higher Wiscome for having us.

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Higher Wiscombe for a special birthday. We hired all properties as we were a party of 30 plus dogs. We had been some years ago before the extension in the Winery. The extension has made the property even more spacious and you really felt there was enough room for everyone across the properties. The houses are well equipped and all very clean.

Lorna and Alistair really do make the experience perfect and cannot do enough to help. From the point of booking to during our stay they helped with any questions or recommendations we asked for prior to arrival and also when on site they cannot do enough for you.

The grounds are amazing and really add to the experience.

We would highly recommend.
