As the Gitcombe Estate appears through the dense trees that border its long drive, it’s clear you've arrived somewhere very special. The setting, in its own private valley, is both magical and instantly relaxing with beautiful rural views stretching as far as the eye can see. Recently listed in The Times' 50 Best Cottages for Summer feature, the cottages themselves are stylish, luxurious, and, despite their high level of sophistication, wonderfully child-friendly. The location is pretty special too being less than five miles from the bistros and boutiques of the yachting town of Dartmouth and roughly the same to the award-winning and beautiful bay at Blackpool Sands. The eight stylish cottages boast luxurious bathrooms and designer kitchens and share facilities that could rival a five star hotel with an elegant pool house complete with indoor heated pool, Klafs sauna and steam rooms, outdoor sundeck with hot tub, outdoor pool, tennis courts and pre-bookable beauty treatments. Gitcombe is as enchanting for kids as it is for their parents thanks to the carved wooden playground, indoor soft play room and opportunity to play spot the moo cow across the valley whilst splashing about in the outdoor hot tub!

Accommodation Overview:

Garden House Description - An elegant, reverse level converted barn perfect for larger families and groups, with Scandi-chic designer interiors and the most exclusive hideaway on the Gitcombe estate. Entrance porch/boot room leads to huge, light, airy open plan living area, with vaulted ceilings, and comfy sofas and armchairs, plus log burner and masses of space to spread out- for quiet nights in there is a TV, freeview, cd player and DVD player. The dining area has a long refectory style dining table and benches. Sleek galley style kitchen, well equipped for larger groups, with granite work tops, stainless steel American style fridge/freezer, Miele dishwater, Miele washer-drier, microwave and Fisher Paykel oven and hob. Stairs down to sleeping accommodation with 4 bedrooms one double with king sized bed and a standard double both with ensuite, a small twin (2x 2'6" beds) and a children's room with L shaped cabin beds suitable for children upto 12. There is a further family bathroom which like the ensuites has a limestone floor. The french doors lead to a large, private terrace with wooden dining table and chairs and bear chair loungers, secluded sun bathing deck, private path to the indoor pool suite and fabulous views over Gitcombe and the countryside. Charcoal BBQ. Help yourself log and kindling store.

PLEASE NOTE: Gitcombe provides un-assembled ‘pop up’ style travel cots, so please be aware that you will need to erect the cot before bedtime.

The property was clean and comfortable and very well equipped for adults and children alike.
The estate grounds are beautifully laid out with the owners on site. Everything is really well thought out .
We were 6 adults and 3 children. The
twin room is probably more suited to children but two adults still managed to squeeze in. The toddler and 2 babies were really well provided for
We really enjoyed the tennis court , indoor pool and hot tub and the babies loved the soft play area .
There are lovely walks from the door, a great pub nearby and the stunning S Hams coastline just a short drive away .
We had a really memorable week .
Thank you.

Beautiful site and property. Contained everything we needed. Very friendly couple running the site who made a special effort to let our 4 yr old feed their sheep. Pool and hot tub were wonderful. The downstairs of garden house was quite damp but they provided a dehumidifier which worked well.

We had a wonderful weekend at Gitcombe with our family, staying in the garden house, which was spacious and stylishly appointed. The estate is so peaceful and relaxing and the facilities are excellent. The surrounding countryside is stunningly beautiful and there is so much to see and do in the area. There’s something for everyone and it suits all seasons. We are very grateful to Peter, Amy and the team, who are delightful hosts. This is our fourth visit and we will certainly be going back. Highly recommended.

We decided to take our son and his family ( his wife and three children) away for a week. I can’t be certain how I found Gitcombe Estate on line but Sooooo glad I did!
Straight from the time of booking everything was ordered and helpful. We all arrived to discover that the location, accommodation, facilities and the hospitality offered us was even better than we had expected.
It is rarely that a “ grumpy grandad “ is impressed these days! and even more so that two other generations felt the same way!
Our daughter in law is a social media influencer and has already had over twenty inquiries about the Estate from photos and comments posted.
We all feel that the effort and dedication of the family and team at Gitcombe was exemplary. THANK YOU !

We stayed for a long bank holiday weekend in May which we thoroughly enjoyed. The accommodation was clean, spacious, very well appointed and in a beautiful setting. Bluebells and orchids lined the verges in profusion. Arriving at our property, we all said 'Wow!' - the Garden House was private but not secluded; warm and comfortable with every convenience. The accommodation has been very well planned, and evidently a lot of skill and experience has been devoted to making every aspect of the stay pleasurable; communication pre-arrival through to preparing for departure was exemplary.

We all enjoyed the wealth of facilities on site, especially the swimming pool, sauna, and the hot-tub with its glorious views of the Devon countryside. We would have no hesitation in recommending Gitcombe, and we look forward to returning to continue our exploration of this beautiful, scenic part of the country.

We had a good time at Gitcombe stayed in the Garden House, facilities were excellent the swimming pool was a big hit with our grandson. The childrens outdoor area was lovely. The cottage was lovely with all our needs provided for plus baby equipment. However we didnt find the layout especially child friendly, We couldn't use the log burner as was not child friendly and the baby gate at the top of stairs opens the wrong way making it difficult to access the top of the stairs whilst carrying the baby but otherwise we had a great stay and would visit again

This was our first visit to Gitcombe so all my expectations were based on the website, and honestly it far exceeded my expectations. Not to say that the website isn't great, you just need to visit in person to understand the beauty of the place. The Garden House, where we stayed, was beautiful, had everything we could need (including for 2 very young children), and was clean and comfortable. The facilities are wonderful for children, our daughters swam every day, played on the swings (too young for the climbing frame at the moment), and if there was ever a spare half hour would want to run up to the indoor play area. The owners were very helpful and accommodative, and you knew they would be on hand if there was a problem. We're excited to visit many times in the future. Thank you Gitcombe team

We had a wonderful stay at The Garden House Gitcombe. Very comfortable and everything was provided. The bedrooms were very comfortable but small especially the children’s bunks which were cleverly designed to fit in the room. It did feel quite dark and cramped downstairs but all rooms were filled! The leisure facilities are very well kept and for us made the holiday as the children loved playing tennis and swimming every day!

A great week at Gitcombe. We were lucky with the weather but even on a rainy day its a great place to stay, close to Dartmouth and in the middle of beautiful countryside with lots of great pubs close by. Peter was great and nothing was too much trouble for him even though he is a very busy man! Swimming pool and hot tub were really nice as was the steam room. Garden House is lovely, very clean and well equipped. We will be back!

This is the second year we have stayed in the Garden House. I think the cushions on the setees need a bit more padding. We would also have liked a couple of loungers as the only ones on site were in the outdoor pool which we could not always access. Apart from these few things we had another lovely stay at Gitcombe.

A fabulous 6 nights enjoying the wonderful facilities at Gitcombe. We swam twice a day in the beautiful pool and due to covid we were able to have it to ourselves which was wonderful. We played tennis badly and the young granddaughters loved the play area and all the swings dotted around. So peaceful and relaxing and a house that addressed all our needs. Nothing was too much trouble including allowing my husband to use their office to take part in some online training for citizens advice. Peter was always at hand and dear Wilson the beautiful retriever enjoyed tummy rubs,. We will definitely back and feel so ,grateful for our peaceful holiday.

Our second stay at Gitcombe lived up to expectations. A dream-like idyllic paradise nestled in a secluded valley; the Gitcombe estate is a true one-off. We stayed in Garden House for the extra space and privacy. The bedrooms and bathrooms were immaculate and beautiful; the upstairs living area and kitchen were spacious, airy and relaxed. The facilities on site are also excellent - in particular the heated outdoor pool and outdoor jacuzzi are a marvel and you have to remind yourself you're still in England.
The surrounding area is also excellent for exploration. Dartmout, Salcome, Totnes plus little villages in-between provide super days out and places to eat.
We are already planning our next trip.

We stayed at the Garden House recently with our extended family . The house is spacious, very well equipped and tastefully decorated to a very high standard throughout . There was baby equipment available such as a high chair , bowls, changing mat etc . The views from the kitchen window across to Dartmoor were lovely . Outside there is a newly installed wooden play area, a swing under a beautiful, enormous beech tree , lots of garden to run around in and of course the hot tub and swimming pool which everyone made good use of ( there is a wipe board in the pool area which is used to book your slots. Plenty of a availability . ) Children over 4 are allowed in the hot tub. The areas were very COVID secure .
Peter, Emma and the staff were very helpful , pleasant and attentive. It was easy to contact them ( they live on site ) and they were quick to respond to queries .
The Gitcombe estate is about a 10/15 minute drive from Dartmouth ( a very pretty place with lots of nice shops and cafes and where you catch the ferry across to the steam train) . There is a Sainsbury’s there too , just on the outskirts going into the town. (you can also get petrol there ) . A word of warning about the lanes leading to Gitcombe,( and Devon more generally ). They are very narrow and lots of backing up to passing places is required. Not for the faint hearted, or people who struggle to reverse. With a bit of research though it is possible to find the wider roads , even it adds on a few extra miles to your journey .
There are some lovely beaches within a 30/45 minute drive from Gitcombe . Some sandy , some pebbly
The village of Dittisham was a favourite of ours. Lunch in the Anchorstone overlooking the river followed by some very successful crabbing from the jetty ( probably the highlight of our granddaughters holiday. )
We would all thoroughly recommend Gitcombe . It really is lovely and the owners have obviously put such a lot of thought into making it a very special place . They have succeeded

We had a wonderful stay at Gitcombe.

There were amazing facilities on site (pool, hot tub, tennis court and outdoor play area) and all were absolutely immaculate.

The Garden House had a fantastic open plan room at entrance level, with a well equipped kitchen, under floor heating, wood fire and lovely decorating. Attention to detail was amazing - everything you needed to have a fire, cook, wash, clean, and generally be comfortable was provided. There were even REN toiletries which added a lovely luxurious touch.

Finally, the team (including Wilson the golden retriever) were friendly, approachable, and available to help if there were any difficulties.

We'll definitely be back, and will be encouraging our friends to visit too!

We spent a week staying in Garden House and had a wonderful family staycation holiday. The property was in excellent condition, well equipped, and very clean. Comfortable beds, nice bathrooms, kitchen, and living area. The facilities were excellent, both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, hot tub, tennis court, and lovely well maintained gardens.

Peter, the owner was very kind and nothing was too much trouble for him. He also took our son for rides in his RTV around the grounds which he really enjoyed. This has to be one of the best, if not the best, self catering places to stay in Devon. We will definitely be back!

The place was absolutely stunning and the location second to none - the owners were lovely and the overall condition of the place was amazing. The only problem was that it was an upside down house with the bedrooms below the living area and the noise from people walking around above was really bad meaning when one person was awake everybody was awake

We stayed for a week in the Garden House - 6 adults and 2 infants. The whole site was ideal, a lot of thought had gone into making this great for family holidays with young children well-provided for.

The accommodation was clean and comfortable; the kitchen area had everything we needed, fitted with a full cooker and oven, microwave, washing machine with inbuilt tumble drier, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. There was an abundance of crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils.

Heating was good throughout, and a log fire was ready-laid, and more logs were available. 2 double bedrooms had ensuite showers, and there was a separate bathroom to support the other 2 bedrooms.

Young children were supported - stair gate fitted, cots available, baby bath provided, fireguards supplied for the log fire. The cottage had a private external seating area and parking.

The pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room were great, and the soft play area was much used by our 2 infants.

The property is about 20 minutes from Totnes and 15 minutes from Dartmouth along small lanes, and is set about a quarter of a mile back from the road - so it's quiet and has good country views.

We also had a sneak peek at the New House, which should be ready by the end of the year. This takes the level of luxury up yet another notch, with superb views from its balcony on 2 sides of the property, large expanses of glass to maximise the views, its own private hot tub, large bedrooms with super bathrooms.

We will definitely want to return.

This was our third visit to Gitcombe and if possible it was better than the previous two! Ideal holiday situation for older children where they had the use of a tennis court and indoor pool. The children in our family really enjoyed these facilities and a God-send when the weather was not good enough for a trip to the beach. The Garden House is ideally located within the grounds providing good access to the indoor pool and a view over the tennis court. Close enough to keep an eye on the children but far enough away not to be disturbed by noise. The only criticism we would have of the accommodation is that all the sofas in the sitting area are extremely uncomfortable and have seen their best days.

Living room at Garden House great for communal use of our family of 14 (sleeping in 3 cottages). Good vairety of occupations for our young, aged 1 to 14.
