The Retreat is a luxurious coach house, part of eight other stylish and luxurious character cottages within the exclusive Gitcombe Country Cottages Estate near Dartmouth. Recently listed in The Times' 50 Best Cottages for Summer feature, Gitcombe's cottages each boast tasteful Scandinavian Country-chic influenced interiors and luxurious touches granite topped kitchens plus a scenic and tranquil setting nestling in their own private valley in the heart of Devon's sought-after South Hams region.

As well as a stunningly scenic setting, a short drive from Dartmouth and Conde Nast Traveller award-wining Blackpool Sands, the cottages and coach house have access to a private health club with large indoor heated pool, Klafs sauna and steam rooms, plus a kids soft play area and sun deck with outdoor whirlpool offering truly beautiful inspiring views over the rolling hills, woodland and meadows of the valley setting. There's also an outdoor pool (open in summer), all-weather tennis courts and beautifully hand carved wooden play area.
All in all, Gitcombe is just as enchanting for kids as it is for adults - who could fail to have fun playing spot the moo cow across the valley whilst splashing about in the outdoor hot tub!

The Retreat is an architect designed contemporary coach house style with high beamed ceilings, flagstone flooring, luxurious bathrooms and a special wrap-around balcony accessed from the lounge overlooking the valley - ideal for wildlife-spotting over morning coffee or evening drinks. The spacious lounge offers plenty of space with a log burning fire, flat screen smart TV and Sonos sound system. A perfect space for family celebrations and crawlers and toddlers will love the open plan living, dining, where they can roam safely always in site of grown-ups.
The stylish kitchen area comes complete with granite worktop, dishwasher, washer/drier, fridge (with ice box), microwave, ceramic hob and oven, large kitchen island and dining area with seating for up to 10. There are 4 hotel standard bedrooms, three with en-suite shower rooms, one with a family bathroom just opposite and one with direct access to the private hot tub.
A private garden complete with dining area, barbecue, views across the valley plus space for up to 3 cars.

Short breaks of 3-4 nights are available between Sept-May annually, with shorter stays (min 3nts) and flexible arrival days accommodated Nov-Mid March. See prices tab for more details and use 'Ask the Owner a Question' under 'Owners' tab for special requests.

PLEASE NOTE: Gitcombe provides un-assembled ‘pop up’ style travel cots, so please be aware that you will need to erect the cot before bedtime.

Wonderful!

Gitcombe Retreat was expensive but worth every penny we paid for it. The accommodation is spacious and luxurious, and easily coped with the needs of a disabled granny, a VERY lively 2-year-old, and a wide range of ages in between. The house had everything we could possibly need, and everything was of the very highest quality. The setting is so spectacularly beautiful and there is so much to do on site that we wouldn’t have needed to leave it if wasn’t for how brilliant all the other local attractions are!

We used to look for a different holiday location each year but in 2019 we found the newly built Retreat. Now we come here every year and could not think of going elsewhere. It is such a beautiful space to live in with its oak beams and up-market furnishings. The spectacular views from the house extent to Dartmoor with no visible roads or houses - just fields and woods with lots of local wildlife and masses of spring flowers. Walks from the house are something we look forward to each year with several pubs for lunch and wonderful scenery along the creeks. Boat trips on the Dart and visits to Dartmouth, Totnes and Kingsbridge provide lots to do but its always good to get back to the house for its peace and beauty.

We stayed for a week in December to mark my wife’s 60th birthday. The attention to detail and care that everyone in the staff put into this stay was exceptional. The retreat was even more spectacular than its description or its photos. We had flowers and a birthday cake made locally and delivered both of which were high quality. The view from the property is amazing changing with the weather every day. The night time hot tub dips and the squeaky clean indoor pool area were highlights. Thanks to some very special people this was a very memorable and happy time for our whole family.

We have just returned from the most amazing stay at Gitcombe. The Retreat is fantastic - real luxury. Everything has been thought of. It's extremely comfortable and well equipped with wonderful views of the Devon countryside. We received a really warm welcome from the owners, who were on hand if there were any problems or if we needed help with anything. From the initial booking to the final goodbye it was customer service at its best.

Staying at Gitcombe Retreat for a second time. Superb accommodation. Wonderful views. Excellent service whenever we asked for something. The swimming pool and jacuzzi positioning is brilliant. Everything you could ask for - and more - at this holiday estate. Brilliantly positioned for visiting seaside/towns/excursions/markets/restaurants. A perfect holiday setting.

This week was a wonderful experience. I had an ambitious plan for a week-long family reunion involving several families from three continents. We began the booking process for the entire estate almost two years ago during Covid. Emma Banks, the Gitcombe manager, was impressive in all aspects of this complex process. She was immediately responsive to all our queries, spent time describing the properties and facilities in detail, as well as advising on catering and outings. She could not have been more courteous, well-prepared and helpful. The owners also were charming and made us feel truly welcome. They are extraordinarily nice people who did everything they could to help us.
During our stay, the operation of the estate was slick and totally professional without being intrusive upon us. The views everywhere around the property are magical and I have never stayed in a more beautifully designed, clean and comfortable vacation rental property than Gitcombe Retreat.
Everything about the estate is as described on the excellent website, and all the facilities are maintained at the highest level.
Gitcombe is a very special, secluded place, in the most picturesque part of England. In this setting the seeds of friendship were sewn amongst sixteen young Australian, American and English kids as well as their parents. We have had a vacation that our families will cherish forever, against the backdrop of the worst possible July weather.
One important detail to be aware of: if renting a car, make it a small vehicle. The roads around Gitcombe are narrow, often one lane, with very limited visibility because of high hedgerows.

Sensational location with stunning views across the undulating countryside. A great combination of comfort, style and space.
Patience required when travelling along classic Devon roads but well worth it to find interesting and beautiful day trip destinations close by.

My wife and I booked Gitcombe Retreat for my 60th Birthday, it’s a fantastic place in an even more fantastic setting, so peaceful and pretty and still within 20 mins of lovely Dartmouth. The retreat comes with all the xtras you need to make your stay that more special including your own hot tub. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return.

We spent a blissful 6 nights at The Retreat. It proved to be perfect for all 3 generations to enjoy a relaxing break. We were incredibly lucky with the January weather and made the most of the play park, the lovely walk to Tuckenhay and easy day trips to Blackpool Sands, Dartmouth (with a trip on the passenger ferry to Kingswear) and Totnes. Indoors, the Retreat is simply the best property we have ever stayed in: exceptional interiors, well stocked kitchen and you just can’t take your eyes off the views! Our 2 year old loved the indoor pool so much she had to be bribed to get out most days! It was a shame the soft play area was out of action - will have to return! For us three highlight was stargazing from the hot tub in the evenings, the tranquility only disturbed by owls hooting nearby. Above all, the communication before and during our trip was excellent and the welcome we received and hoW speedily any request or question was answered just made it the perfect break. We’d love to come back.

We had a wonderful few days in the most beautiful house with stunning views. It was perfect for our family gathering and Peter and Amy were very hospitable. They were keen to ensure we were comfortable and immediately responded to requests, ie increasing hot tub temperature.

I do feel that for the amount of money we paid, we should not have to strip beds, etc at the end of our stay. I guess this is a hangover request from covid times, but feel housekeeping should be offered as part of the end of stay cleaning service.

We used one of the private chefs recommended by Gitcombe (Elaine Day) and we enjoyed the most delicious meal.

We’d had two family holidays at Gitcombe in previous years, staying in the Garden House. Perfectly good, and we’d recommend that property as well, as it’s perfect.
This year we wanted a family stay for a week in the new Gitcombe Retreat property, again for a family holiday. The Retreat is amazing, a first class building housing 8 adults and two infants, with no expense spared on each and every amenity. The main room upstairs is huge and has everything you’d need in a combined kitchen/lounge. The four bedrooms are excellent with superb en suite bathrooms. It would be difficult to better any of it. Outside hot tub, large outdoor dining table, BBQ - it’s all there.
And an indoor swimming pool for the whole facility within just yards of the Retreat, an outdoor pool and a tennis court a short walk away. Gitcombe has much to offer families of all sizes and we will book again.
In fact, we already have!!

What a great environment to enjoy a holiday! Superb accommodation in Gitcombe Retreat - a wonderfully designed building with magnificent views and privacy.
The grounds are excellent (challenging in terms of gradient!) and the indoor swimming pool is a great facility - a website controlled booking system for the pool would be helpful though (instead of wipe board) to avoid any possible misunderstandings and frustration!
A great family holiday and we were only home one day before we booked again for next year!

Gitcombe is the perfect family getaway whatever the weather. We had the good fortune to book the retreat this year and what a treat. Surely built to one day be a family home it’s an incredible space and luxurious too. The estate is also fantastic, our second visit - the pool and play area just great. Nothing to fault!

This was our second stay at Gitcombe retreat, and it never disappoints. The luxury standard of the accommodation is enough to brighten any rainy day, as you can sit and relax in comfort, or cook a meal in the top of the range kitchen.
Gitcombe have thought of everything, previously we stayed with a party of ages 1-75 and there were games for all, every imaginable child and baby appliance, accessible bathrooms, and a gorgeous, expansive living space in which we can all eat and relax.
Our last stay was during covid so we stayed on site and enjoyed the fantastic facilities - hot tub, both pools, tennis and the play areas. All beautifully clean and perfect for the family.
This time we borrowed some beach toys and a wind break, and made a trip to Blackpool sands, also took the ferry over to greenway at Dittersham to see Agatha Christie’s house and gardens, and stopped for lunch at the highly sought after Anchorstone cafe for a delicious lunch. So many tips on the website, and the family and Emma at Gitcombe are incredibly helpful if you’re looking for things to do outside of the estate.

We really love staying at Gitcombe, and will continue to do so. Can whole heartedly recommend to anyone looking for a luxurious stay-cay.

The large living space has oak beams and panoramic views .You live in complete isolation with views across rolling Devon countryside and Dartmoor in the distance. Outside there excellent facilities including tennis and 2 pools and you can walk to the pubs in Tuckenhay and Dittisham down tracks and footpaths. We love it and keep coming back.

This was our twelfth visit to Gitcombe (which in and of itself speaks volumes) but the first time that we have stayed at the Retreat. The property is stunning and has everything that one could possibly need. As with all of the properties at which we have stayed it is maintained to an incredibly high standard, and Peter and Emma could not be more helpful and welcoming. It is the perfect base for exploring the South Hams and we will definitely be returning next year for visit number thirteen.

The retreat is a stunning house, absolutely beautiful! We had a lovely family break with 3 generations to celebrate belated 70th Birthdays of our parents. The pool & hot tub are fab & we used them everyday! The views from the house are stunning & even in February we had lots of beautiful sunshine! We enjoyed muddy walks in the countryside around gitcombe & trips out to start point lighthouse, Blackpool sands, salcombe & national trust Greenway. LOVED gitcombe as a luxurious base to explore this beautiful part of the world & will definitely return!

We stayed for a long weekend in Gitcombe Retreat to celebrate my birthday and I couldn’t of wished for a better location. The house was absolutely fantastic, well appointed and perfect for a party. We had a catered dinner party on the Saturday (Elaine Day Catering) who were absolutely superb! The hot tub was a welcome bonus and we were lucky with the weather so got full use and enjoyed the magnificent views! The indoor pool, sauna and steam room were perfectly located for us and the pool a lovely temperature.
Rodney delivered wood and was extremely friendly. I simply cannot fault this place and will definitely return!

We stayed for 4 nights in the retreat. It is a beautiful residence: peaceful, spacious and luxuriously appointed. Amazing views. The owners were never far away if we needed anything. The indoor pool and children's play area were great fun which we enjoyed daily, and the rest of the grounds are well kept with nice country walks easily found nearby. The property is close to local pubs and towns. Can definitely recommend the stay, we will return!

I booked Gitcombe Retreat a year ago to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary September 2021 with family.
It didn’t disappoint and exceeded our expectations. From the location and views from the house to the accommodation itself, the first class customer service ( suggesting a florist, a recommendation for making the cake, the caterers, all first class ) that helped to make our special day and stay at the Retreat simply perfect, even the weather was better than expected. Misty views from the balcony in the early mornings was spectacular.
The facilities, our hot tub, the indoor pool and soft play and outdoor play areas meant we could plan time in the park without having to be out and about all day, a perfect balance for leisure time. We all managed to relax, whether it was watching the Jacobs sheep in the field adjacent the house or the buzzards overhead. I particularly loved the changing distant views with the light of day , our patio was a perfect spot for a bit a reading, disturbed only by the rabbit in the flower beds.
Thankyou Gitcombe for a wonderful week we won’t forget.

This is the 5th time at Gitcombe and 2nd time in the Retreat. This holiday home is the best with everything we could ever need. The grounds are beautiful and there are two swimming pools, one indoor and one outside overlooking the grounds, tennis court and play area.

We had a wonderful time staying in the Retreat. My husband is in a wheelchair and the facilities were ideal for him. Everything at Gitcombe was even more wonderful than advertised. All the facilities were in perfect condition. The indoor and outdoor swimming pools were both hot and clean and private. The people were kind and thoughtful and nothing was too much trouble. We were enchanted.

The facilities, decor, views and space at Gitcome retreat is the best we’ve experienced in a U.K. holiday. The accommodation is incredibly tasteful, new and clean, and very generous.

The indoor and outdoor space is perfectly proportioned, and childproof, so we were very comfortable letting our very young ones roam about freely to explore.

Gitcombe is located perfectly for day trips to the coast like Blackpool sands or Salcombe, but there is also plenty to keep you entertained on site, including on rainy days.

We brought plenty of extra things with us that we didn’t need, because the accommodation is fully stocked, and they have thought of everything.

We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend anyone to stay at the lovely Gitcombe retreat.

Despite poor weather, indeed some extreme winds, we have just returned from a lovely week at The Retreat. The Retreat is beautiful, well equipped, with stunning views. The indoor pool was great given the weather and we really appreciated the covid related 1 hour booking slots. Great to have the pool to ourselves. The hot tub was great and we did manage some tennis in wet weather gear!

Our only observation would be for some larger mugs for hot drinks.

We would certainly return.

Our 2nd time staying here. It is a beautiful place to stay as previous reviews have said. I think by the end of the week I’d learnt how to drive around the narrow roads! One thing I really appreciated was the warm indoor pool -I hope this never changes as it meant our young children were happy splashing around for ages! I did have some trouble working the equipment in The Retreat (I’m sure due to my own incompetence!) but the owners are always on hand to help quickly. The sunsets from the terrace were stunning and the best evening entertainment. Thank you again.

Everything was just absolutely perfect and of such high quality. The house is stunning. We celebrated my 60th birthday here in style and I could not have wanted a more perfect venue. Thank you Gitcombe team for making this visit so wonderful. You have thought of everything to allow your visitors to experience a 'little piece of heaven'. The Retreat worked very well for 5 adults and two children staying there - it was spacious and comfortable with great facilities. It also worked well as a communal space for the rest of our family who were staying in 2 of the cottages - in all 9 Adults and 7 small children at Gitcombe - we could eat together and spend time together in the Retreat. The facilities at Gitcombe were also excellent for all the family and it worked well even with the restrictions in place to deal with Covid. Having one family at a time for one hour pre-booked meant there were never too many people in one place. The location and views were superb and it is close enough the sea and to Totnes and Dartmouth to make shopping easy. All in all, a great holiday place to which we will return

We have just returned from the most fabulous week staying at The Retreat as part of the Gitcombe Estate. Luxurious, private, safe accommodation, ideal for kids and with access to great facilities. We were first back in the property post lockdown restrictions and were really pleased with how well organised and safe the complex felt, with extra precautions in place to ensure everyone's safety. The informal booking system via white boards for the pools and tennis courts made it really easy and actually lovely to know that the pool was going to be all to ourselves (especially with three littles ones!).
We couldn't fault the place and hope to return again in the future!

We stayed here during storm Dennis and had it been a different property I think we would have had a different holiday! Gitcombe retreat is just lovely! Spacious, luxurious and has everything you could need and more.

The house is fantastically equipped and The furniture is of a high standard! Luxurious and child friendly is hard to pull off but this rental offers both well.

The facilities were enjoyed by 3 generations, ages ranging from 3 years to 66 years.

Between the stormy wether the grounds offered up lovely walks and a brilliant wooden play area and a sports area with equipment available.

The towns surrounding were a short drive away with shopping for the adults and things to do with the children. There are lots of beaches to choose from.

We highly recommend Gitcombe county cottages and definitely the retreat where we stayed
! We will certainly be coming back!

We have just returned from our third visit to Gitcombe. This time we stayed in The Retreat which is a new addition to their holiday cottages. It is a luxurious and comfortable four bedroom, four bathroom cottage, finished to a very high standard. The Retreat is very well designed for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. It is very well equipped (as are the other cottages) with fabulous views over the valley. The February weather was mixed but we swam in the large indoor pool, walked miles on footpaths direct from Gitcombe and we visited various local towns Dartmouth, Salcombe and Kingsbridge. It is an ideal spot for family holidays with an outdoor pool for the summer, soft play area and gardens for playing in and exploring.
After three memorable and happy holidays including summer 2019 when our party included our extended family (four grandchildren under 4 years old) we speak from experience. We will be back !

We loved Gitcombe Retreat from the moment we arrived on a windy raining night. Lots of space for eight of us to relax, cook and eat together. Our own private hot tub was an additional treat as was the pool, sauna and spa just a few feet away. All the bedrooms were lovely so no squabbling on who gets which. Helpful suggestions for walks to nearby pubs and drives to beaches. Would recommend.

The photos of the retreat do not do it justice, they do not portray the amazing view, the luxurious feel of the beds or the sumptuous sofas.
Barcroft Retreat is incredible, no expense has been spared and every detail has been attended to. I have never stayed anywhere as well appointed or as thoughtfully prepared.
We had the perfect break to get over Christmas and prepare us for the new year, and our host was helpful and respectful. The pool, play areas, and jacuzzis were ideal and the icing on the cake. I will definitely be coming back when I need to take some time out and be held suspended in this little piece of heaven.

Gitcombe Retreat was just perfect for a family week away in November, when you are never quite sure what the weather will be. Our ages ranged from 3 months to 62 years and everyone's needs were completely satisfied and more. The interior and exterior of this building is superb, the kitchen well equipped, comfy beds and sofas, lovely decor throughout. Loved the indoor pool and play area, just yards from our house and the outdoor play area too. A great base for exploring the South Hams - not far from Totnes and Dartmouth and lovely walks along the River Dart with a 3 year old on a bike and a toddler in a back pack. Will be returning, definitely!

Gitcombe Retreat is an absolutely fantastic place to stay. The views are stunning and the house itself is so beautifully built and fitted out with very modern features.

As with other properties at Gitcombe, guests also benefit from access to the wonderful facilities such as indoor pool, hot tub, tennis court and kids playground. There is also an outdoor pool for guests that come in the summer. There are lots of wonderful day trips to do in the local area - to Dittisham, Dartmouth, various beaches etc.

the house was beautiful, with stunning views. nothing was too much trouble and the tour around the house was very informative.
The swimming pool was amazing and our client whom used it seemed to really enjoy it.
Although we didn't get to explore much due to the clients that were with us. I think they had a wonderful time.
Have shown the photos that I took to my family. My daughter is thinking about booking. I would recommend this retreat to all our friends and family.
Many thanks to you for making us so well come and for all the help you gave us.

Gitcombe Retreat is the most recently completed of several cottages on an estate. We took 3 cottages and this was the best by a margin, though the others were also good.

Large kitchen/diner excellently appointed with a gratifyingly large dining table. Comfortable sitting area. Wonderful views from a well designed and safe balcony.

Bedrooms/bathrooms good.

Appliances all modern some of which tested the more elderly.

Wifi/mobile reception poor.

Good indoor and outdoor pools for use of all cottages, suitable and safe for smalls. Good play area for children. Use of a tennis court in good condition.

Amazingly beautiful spot if you like that type of thing, which I do as would most.

Must be prepared to drive on winding, narrow lanes.

We were looking for the right place for my Wife to celebrate a special birthday with our 2 children and their families including 4 grandchildren aged between 5 years and just 2 months. The Gitcombe Retreat was just that for a week! Luxurious accomodation with beautiful scenery located in such a peaceful location between Totnes and Dartmouth. There is also plenty to do around the Retreat with it's own hot tub and BBQ on the patio, the indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room and soft play area right next door and the outdoor pool, tennis court and children's play area nearby. We all enjoyed a fun day at Woodlands family theme park only a couple of miles away. The adults had as much fun as the children! And if you purchase discounted tickets online, when you leave the park at the end of the day you can pay the difference of the full daily price to obtain passes into the park for the week. We enjoyed days out at Blackpool Sands which has a shingle beach and Salcombe North and South Sands which are sandy. We also had a evening good meal in lovely surroundings at the nearby Malsters Arms. We had such an enjoyable week that none of us wanted to leave at the end of it! Thank you to Peter, Rodney and Emma for providing such a lovely place and all the facilities for our family to enjoy. We do hope to return.

WOW, WOW, and WOW again!!! We loved every minute of our stay at Gitcombe; we were staying in the main house and brand new Gitcombe retreat and couldn't possibly decide which was the better of the two! They were both spectacular in their own way, and having the two properties for our group meant everyone had a little extra space to find somewhere quiet for some downtime, which is always needed when travelling in a big party :)

The owners were around to greet us and on hand for any assistance throughout, but in a lovely discreet manner that didn't invade your holiday or make you feel like you were being watched! They were so helpful though, bringing extra chairs down to the outdoor pool area when they could see we were all sat on the grass (it was the first weekend of the outdoor area being open so I expect they would usually have more loungers and seating around the pool in summer, but we weren't expecting such good weather in May!). We had asked to come in and decorate and Emma kept us updated on the day as to when the House was clean and ready for decorating, and she was also very helpful in ensuring the bed configurations, and suggesting local caterers etc in the run-up to our weekend.

The main house was stunning; the facade of the building made for some great photos of us at our 'Country Manor' and the interior was finished to a high-end luxury level, with modern bathrooms and facilities working harmoniously with the history of the rooms and some more antique furniture! The grand dining room had more than enough space for 16 adults to dine one evening, and the kitchen was unbelievably well stocked with crockery, glasses, cake stands, trays, cooking utensils, mixing bowls, serving dishes, cling film/ foil/ binbags/ cloths and washing up liquid - they've thought of everything! This continued everywhere we looked, with toiletries in all of the bathrooms, towels, bathrobes, slippers, even tennis equipment and body boards/windbreaks for people to borrow - amazing!

Up at the brand new Retreat we were wowed once again; walking in was incredible, with panoramic countryside views of the Valley - stunning! The open plan living space made for a great entertaining area and we used this one evening for playing family games. The Retreat was much more modern in style (100% up my street, but the main house was perfect for my Nan, cousins, and uncle who prefer that style!) with 3 of the 4 bedrooms equipped with an en-suite, and the final had use of the 'family bathroom' to their selves! Only thing we found was the water tank at the new retreat only seemed to have enough water for 4 people to shower before we had to put the immersion on and wait for it to reheat. The showers are amazing rain showers with separate movable head so I'm sure they use A LOT of water(!) but it was a minor inconvenience to be waiting your turn for a shower when we all needed to be ready for a certain time due to plans we had made... I have to say though, the shower was SO worth the wait XD

There seems to be an issue with flies at the Retreat, not sure how they can resolve this though! But they stayed up high in the main living area by the windows, so they didn't bother us...

Communal facilities were incredible, with a great play area for he children, soft play, indoor pool with sauna and steam room, communal jacuzzi, outdoor swimming pool, and tennis courts! We LOVED just strolling from one area to the next to make use of everything. All were very well maintained and we couldn't fault anything.

I don't think we could have found a better place to take the family to celebrate this special birthday! Despite the slightly nerve-wracking drive down country lanes to reach the Estate, it was more than worth it :-) I have to say that generally, after a weekend with 20 people you are usually more than ready to leave, but we were all desperate to stay longer, having enjoyed ourselves so much, and I think this is down to the beauty of the place, and the relaxed and peaceful atmosphere!

Thank you Gitcome for a special place to celebrate! We hope we can return!

Gitcombe Retreat is aptly named as a new, beautiful oak framed, property recently built high up amongst the complex of luxurious stone holiday cottages at Gitcombe House in Devon’s South Hams. The countryside views from the property are stunning.
The four bedroom barn has been tastefully furnished throughout with comfortable beds, stylish bath or shower rooms, and meticulous attention to detail to give a peaceful, luxurious place in which to relax. The large open plan Living area is filled with light from the full glazing on two sides leading out on to a wrap around terrace, and the magnificent high vaulted ceiling. It has a fully fitted well equiped Kitchen, and large relaxing Dining area as well as comfortable sofas and a log stove.
It has its own private hot tub, and additional use of the on site indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, large hot tub, and outdoor summer swimming pool area.
Don’t miss the opportunity to visit this magical place. It is a gem. There is much to enjoy in the area, for adults and children.
The local Riverford Organics deliver, as do Waitrose and Sainsbury’s stores.

Had the privilege of staying in the retreat house, which was the newly refurbished. Absolutely amazing decor to each room. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. And peter the owner was very helpful, and even enjoyed dinner with us.

Thankyou :)

Gitcombe estate is a beautiful collection of luxury cottages, ranging in sizes to meet all requirements. I stayed in the new cottage which is totally gorgeous. large open living space is upstairs to allow people to see the glorious views over the countryside. There is also a large en-suite bedroom on the upper floor which caters for anyone with disabilities. All equipment in the cottage is of the highest quality and easy to use. Under floor heating throughout keeps the cottage warm. The bedrooms downstairs are large with plenty of space for clothes etc. The new cottage benefits from its own hot tub outside the bedrooms allowing guests easy access to use it. Across the way is the excellent spa facility with large indoor heated pool, outside hot tub and inside there is a sauna and steam room. Also in the building is a soft play room for young children and a table football game for older ones and adults. The estate is ideally located between Totnes and Dartmouth, both having supermarkets and many shops to supply your self catering experience.

The Retreat at Gitcombe is a beautifully designed house, with fantastic views across the neighbouring countryside and the lovely sense of a secluded get-away. It's been furnished and decorated to a very high standard too. We also loved all the other facilities, especially the tennis court, basketball and swimming pool. All-in-all a great place to stay. We'll be back!

We feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to stay in this beautiful new retreat - serious luxury where you'll want for nothing! Family friendly, sophisticated and relaxing. The very best of self-catering in South Devon.

The new Gitcombe Retreat is the most spectacular addition to this already wonderful place. Luxurious comfort in the heart of the countryside with all you need for a fabulous family time at your fingertips: green fields, far-reaching views, indoor pool, outdoor pool, hot tub with a view (not to mention the private hot tub with multi-coloured lights...), tennis court, basketball net, walks, pub within walking distance, Dartmouth just 15 minutes away, beaches within easy reach...I could go on. The new house is a triumph and the most blissful place to get away from it all. Thank you so much - we'll be back!
