My wife has been receiving cancer treatments for three years and we received the welcome but surprising news that her most recent immunotherapy he’s cleared her cancer. The Consultant recommended a few days away. We have stayed with Jim and Julie Weir several times before and know it to be an excellent site and location. We had always stayed in their holiday Park Homes before but this time we felt we would prefer a Lodge. Jim was of great help when I phoned him at short notice.
Our whole week was excellent. Jim and Julie could not have been more helpfu. The whole experience was helped enormously by the phenomenally good weather throughout our stay. We visited Arisaig and Morar, Seal and Luing twice, Oban and Fort William and Glencoe.
The Lodge was very well equipped with bedding and towels and soap and shampoo. The price was very reasonable and we can only say we would recommend Appin Holiday Homes as an ideal base for visiting a superb area. The caravans and Lodges are great and we are hoping to return next year with our larger family to celebrate my 80th Birthday. Thank you Jim and Julie for another fabulous break.

We stayed at Rowan Tree Lodge for 10 days in August. Location is wonderful: great view from the cottage, easy access, close to Glencoe and Oban, parking space, fairly quiet roads. Clean house with all necessities. We enjoyed our time there very much! Special mention: Creagan Station on site just renovated as a place for coffee/tea and very kind help from the family Weir (owners). Worth revisiting!

Our third or fourth stay -- Jim, Julie, Callum and the team are just so great, making it cosy, and so responsive. I guess there were minor things but all can be addressed and probably more due to the cleaning/replenishment crew:
- Welcome packs of tea/coffee were just in one cabin and sporadic things that were in some of our lodges but not others (one lodge had 7 towels, the other had none, there were no bath mats etc)
- Would be great to just have some essentials on arrival, e.g. loaf of bread, eggs. Appreciate not everyone eats these but we did wonder what to do on arrival late at night for the next morning
- It was hot and a fan would have been great but we could have always asked for it
- The toilet leaked and smelt (plumbing?) a bit which we mentioned but no problem again about that
- Rowan Tree smelt a bit musty compared to the other cabins but again not a big issue
Overall, really great holiday, views are stunning and so homely. Value for money for sure and beautiful jumping off point for hikes, cycling etc. Thank you all!

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Appin holiday homes, the location is superb, the views are stunning,, the site and lodges are in very good condition with everything you need for a relaxed stay. The owners and staff are friendly and helpful. The site is within easy walking distance to the Creagon Inn which do excellent meals and very good real ale. The cycle rides around the area are brilliant, most on traffic free roads. The site is within easy reach of Oban, Port Appin, Glencoe and the islands. We are already planning to return next year, even the weather was kind to us.

The washing machine operated, but our clothes would've cleaned better if we chucked them in the loch and swished them around. When we tried to use the dryer, it didn't turn on at all (wasted £4 after 2 attempts), so our night was spent hanging dirty wet clothes around our rooms, cranking up the heaters, and sweating our butts off. We tried calling reception 3 times, but no answer. Also, there is no "reception" - it's self check in, so if you have issues your only option is to call.

Please ensure your equipment is serviceable for future guests.

We love staying here. The lodges are constantly updated and always clean and comfortable.
Ideally situated for getting around and the grounds are lovely. Fantastic views, great for the nearby Creagan Inn and the Old Inn if you love a decent steak. Jim and Julie are always helpful and go the extra mile.

We stayed here because it was close to the wedding venue we were going to. The lodge was like home from home with everything you could possibly need. The Grandchildren enjoyed the gardens with the swings, giant chess and little paths to explore. It would be lovely to have stayed longer to see the local area more.

We met Julie and Jim Weir briefly and they seemed very friendly. Julie showed me around Badger Sett and Squirrel Dray lodges as I was interested to know what these lodges were like with just showers in the bathrooms. They both looked lovely inside as they had just finished upgrading the interiors.
Rowan Tree lodge was lovely and comfortable and I would definately like to stay at Appin Lodges in the future and try one of the above mentioned lodges.

Stunning lodge, in a stunning setting. Had a lovely time gutted we had to leave, will definitely come back 100%.

The lodge had everything we needed and more.
Rooms were spotless and the views 1st thing in the morning were breathtaking.

Stunning lodge, in a stunning setting. Had a lovely time gutted we had to leave, will definitely come back 100%.

The lodge had everything we needed and more.

Enjoyable as our first stay. Great site for walks (saw a deer on an old train track!). Made good use of games room, swings and outdoor chess. Chilled out front using sites sites foldable chairs enjoying the loch views. Nice restaurant 5 minutes walk away.

We really enjoyed our stay at Rowan Lodge. The lodge has everything you need and great facilities, and a fabulous outlook. We used it as a base to have a meal at the Pierhouse at Port Appin, and then next day to travel to Lismore where we hired bikes to explore. Final evening we walked to the Chreagan Inn which was excellent.

We really enjoyed our stay at Rowan Lodge. The lodge has everything you need and great facilities, and a fabulous outlook. We used it as a base to have a meal at the Pierhouse at Port Appin, and then next day to travel to Lismore where we hired bikes to explore. Final evening we walked to the Chreagan Inn which was excellent.

The accommodation was at such a lovely location overlooking the water and the mountains. The actual lodge was also spaced out between the other lodges so you still had some peace, while still having fun with your family, which was very important as we did not need to always have to remind ourselves to be aware of our noise levels. A few things that would be helpful to note before our stay including the absence of a hairdryer, towels, sponge, and even a hand soap for the toilet. We were not aware as we do not often stay in lodges and if we did it was always provided. The black bin outside was still full from the previous occupants which was not pleasant. The kitchen was equipped with the basic necessities. It was good that the owners also did not overly check up on us as this could be overwhelming and they have generally left us alone. Overall, our stay in both the Rowan and Cherry Lodges was good.

Perviously stayed at AHH some 25 years earlier with young children. As grandparents now, we returned (just the two of us) when other holiday plans were disrupted by Covid19 and so glad we did. The updating of the Chalets has been very successful and much else improved. Only thing unchanged on site is the high level of personal customer service. Interested to see the work on the old Railway Station and wonder what the plans for it are.
The road is noticeably busier (Creran Bridge had not been open when last staying here) and for the Chalets facing it, noise can be intrusive at times (traffic accelerates going North on the straight after negotiating the bends and roundabouts by the bridge). Nevertheless by and large the peace of the area is the predominant experience. And the views remain gorgeous.

We loved the location and being able to let our dog run free along the old railway track, he really enjoyed paddling in the waterfall and drinking fresh Scottish water from the little pool. The lodge is in a lovely setting and an easy walk to the excellent Creagan Inn

It's well-run and when we saw them the family were friendly, polite and helpful. I appreciate it's difficult at times, but perhaps it might have been good to see them a little bit more, perhaps either on arrival or departure.

I've just one or two comments. I do like to recycle as much as possible, and in the times we live in, I don't think I'm alone. It might be useful to have some way of facilitating this a bit more. It's frightening how much you can generate in a week. I did save my recyclables, but there didn't seem to be anywhere to put them.

I did also slip and fall on the decking one morning. I've been coming to the Highlands for years, so I don't mind rain itself. I was sensibly shod but still slipped on a grimy area and hurt my knee. I didn't want to make an issue of it, but I think some customers might do so, and I would genuinely not want that to happen. so I would ask if that's something to keep an eye on.

The above are just comments. I'll end as I begun: we love this place - that view! - and have had serious withdrawal symptoms since we came home! I have and will heartily recommend it to anyone. We certainly hope to come back soon.

We had a thoroughly good time in Appin, returning to the lodge late afternoons to sit on the balcony in the sunshine. The lodge suited our purposes but it was lacking in a few comfort areas. We had arrived ill prepared having been to a self-catering house in Perthshire the previous week where we needed to take absolutely nothing but food. Everything a home needs was provided there. Apart from a J-cloth, washing up liquid and one tea towel provided there were no extras to aid us through the week, like cling film, tin foil, kitchen towel, potato peeler, salt and pepper and such like so perhaps we came expecting more. The freezer compartment in the fridge is missing its door so food could not be kept frozen, and food in the fridge got colder than necessary. There are no hooks on the balcony or inside the front door to hang coats, wet or dry, so they were draped over chairs. Two lights in the kitchen were dud. The bathroom is obviously cleaned during daylight and the cleaner is not seeing the state of the light pull which was appalling, missing the end and tied up high. It was a disgusting shade of yellowy beige where it had been handled for years and desperately needs replacing or bleached. The mirror light didn't work. There was no cloth for wiping down the bathroom so we had to buy one. There's not one hook in the bathroom for a dressing gown or toilet bag and for four people there should be more rails. In the main bedroom one of the drawers is falling apart and unusable. The wardrobe base is coming away and jamming the doors. The cleanliness wasn't quite up to scratch especially in the corners and in drawers. The hoover didn't have an attachment to enable us to hoover the nooks and crannies ourselves or the fluff and dust gathered in the seams between the leather couch cushions. In spite of these little niggles we had a good time and would thoroughly recommend Jim's dad's stories!

After a week touring the highlands of Scotland we had one more event planned at Fort William before heading home. Although this was a little drive from Fort William, it was a beautiful drive along the loch, so worth it.
The site itself was perfect for us, small, quiet and relaxing in lovely grounds. I really liked the outdoor equipment for children (not that we came with children) and the outdoor seating area for bbq's. The dis-used railway station and platform was also an interesting feature. The lodge itself was clean and comfortable and had everything required, with a lovely view also. The use of a washing machine and dryer was a godsend. We had car issues and the site owner happily provided us with some spanners, that was much appreciated. If I am in this area ever again I would most definitely stay here again, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone else.

My wife and two brothers stayed two nights in the Rowan Tree Lodge and we thought it was excellent value. The location overlooking the loch is very pretty, and perfectly located for visiting Oban, Fort William and the Isle of Mull, provided you have a vehicle. Not much within walking distance except the nearby Creagan Inn, which is a top notch place for dinner. Only drawback was that the wifi was restricted to the games room, which was a bit stuffy inside, and surrounded by midges outside. Otherwise, a great stay!

The views are stunning, the accommodation is excellent, and the grounds are extremely well kept, the play areas for the kids are great, all our 2 wanted to do was stay out playing struggled to get them in. We spent a week at Rowan lodge (2 adults, 3 yo and 11 wk old) in June 2017. We have always stayed in Oban (previously had a family holiday house there) so this was our first time coming to the area and staying elsewhere. The lodge was in a lovely location with a fabulous view out across the loch. The veranda area was well sheltered which I used for a spot of morning yoga! Our 3 yo loved exploring the surrounding area which had plenty of interest for her including the old train line and station house and venturing down to the shore. A travel cot and highchair were already in the lodge for us (we weren't ready for the highchair but the thought was appreciated) and we had a very comfortable stay. Some lovely wee touches in the lodge, obviously going for a seaside theme and not far from the very nice Creagan Inn for a spot of food and more fantastic views.

We spent a week at Rowan lodge (2 adults, 3 yo and 11 wk old) in June 2017. We have always stayed in Oban (previously had a family holiday house there) so this was our first time coming to the area and staying elsewhere. The lodge was in a lovely location with a fabulous view out across the loch. The veranda area was well sheltered which I used for a spot of morning yoga! Our 3 yo loved exploring the surrounding area which had plenty of interest for her including the old train line and station house and venturing down to the shore. A travel cot and highchair were already in the lodge for us (we weren't ready for the highchair but the thought was appreciated) and we had a very comfortable stay. My partner's parents actually occupied Rowan Tree lodge during our stay at Appin Holiday homes - they are both in their eighties and found the experience relaxing, rewarding and rejuvenating . They both enjoyed morning strolls along the old railway track and we all had a delicious meal in the local hostelry The Creagan Inn where we were all made to feel very welcome indeed. This is their second visit to Appin Holiday Homes as they accompanied us back in October when we had two caravans lochside ; they immediately fell in love with the place and I envisage them wanting to be part of all our future holidays there - judging by the extraordinary number of photos they took I am sure they will be spreading the word all around Devon . A very successful vacation indeed !

A wonderful holiday in a lovely lochside lodge. The lodge is set back from the loch, which for us was perfect as we got amazing views of the loch without fear of midgies! In fact midgies weren't a problem for us, unfortunately it was the ticks that the children got when playing by rope swing, not a major issue, but worth being aware of.

The lodge itself was comfortable, clean and well stocked. The only place for improvement would be the bathroom. A shower curtain and nonslip bathmat needed replacing and the grout was mouldy. The beds are very comfy.

There is a road running in front of the lodge, but this isn't a safety issue for the children as there is 15/20ft of grass that slopes down to a high hedge before the road. There is road noise, but hardly noticeable - the view of the loch distracts you!

The only other niggle (and it really is a niggle) was the light that the lodge on our left kept on most nights, it lit our bedroom too.

Overall a lovely family holiday, which we hope to do again one day. A perfect location to go off exploring what the West Coast of Scotland has on offer. Castle Stalker just round the corner, Loch Ness a beautiful drive 1.5 hours away, Glen Coe a beautiful drive 30 mins away, the Isle of Mull a beautiful 20 mins to Oban and 30 mins on a ferry away!

I've repeatedly stayed here since I was brought by my Grandparents 25ish yrs ago. Location is excellent as a base for further exploring or just staying in with a book and the view.

The Weir family are always warm, welcoming and not intrusive in any way.

The lodges are well appointed, clean and contain the crockery & equipment necessary for eating & drinking. The making you have to do yourself :D

We spent 4 nights in the Rowan Tree lodge, as a mid week break and found everything 1st class from the location, view, maintenance of the park and cleanliness of the accommodation. the manager could not be more helpful and the other plus was the Creagan Inn bar and restaurant on the lockside a short ten minutes walk away. good meals and prices, at a perfect location. I would be hard pushed to find a negative about the lodges, but if I am very critical I have to mention the road noise close to the cabin, but it in no way spoilt our stay at Appin Holiday Homes.All in all a relaxing break.

We found Appin Holiday Homes by accident a couple of years ago and have now been 3x. The site is right beside Loch Creran and the news are amazing every morning.

The site is well situated for walks into the hills behind (right outside the rear of the chalets), the disused train line behind the chalets offers great walks to Appin, Castle Stalker & beyond and also up round the top of the Loch beyond the road bridge which is a beautiful circular walk right by the lochside for half of it.

The chalets are spacious and very comfortable with everything you could need for even a wet-weather stay. There is even wi-fi if you desperately need it (sometimes good for planning trips out etc) up in the Games Room. The site owners Julie & Jim could not be friendlier and more helpful, nothing is too much trouble and they are a key part of the warmth of the site. They have also spent a lot of time in the last couple of years renovating the chalets and have done a great job and the chalets have a fresh contemporary feel whilst still making you feel like your muddy boots haven't wrecked everything if you forget to take them off after a long walk.

Though we don't have kids, our feeling is that it would be a very safe and easy place to take them to. The main road that runs across the front is completely obscured by a cleverly positioned hedge and there is plenty to do out the back of the chalets in terms of play areas, very close but open woodland etc where they could be easily monitored.

The views from the chalets is just breathtaking and I miss it right now sitting in my pokey office at home. The Loch is just beautiful and on a sunny day with little wind, the glassy surface of such a huge body of water is awe-inspiring. A short drive (or nice brisk walk) will get you to Port Appin where you can catch the ferry to Lismore for about £1.60 each way. This is well worth it, Lismore is a beautiful island and there is a nice 1/4day walk to the Heritage Centre (with brilliant cafe) and slightly longer walk back (as you'll be full of hot chocolate etc) to the Port to catch the ferry back.

The Cregan Inn just 5mins walk up the road from the chalets serves excellent and reasonably priced high quality bar food and there are a few other cafes within a short drive (The View at Appin and Ben Lora at Benderloch are 2 highlights). Main shops are probably the little pink supermarket in Benderloch, then Oban (20min drive) itself has a big Tesco and Co-Op.

All in all, Appin is well situated for visitor attractions to the north and south in either Oban and beyond or Fort William up to Ben Nevis and Glencoe.

For balance, there is a main road running between the chalets and the Loch, but this is 'busy' for maybe 15-20mins a day (less at weekends), the rest of the time the quiet and tranquility is astonishing.
