Wow, what a location, wonderful views from Dairy House and the scenery around the wider area fantastic. The house itself had everything you needed and the comfortable beds had us sleeping like logs! The chocolate fudge cake and ice cream were delicious and waiting for us when we arrived. All in all, don’t think Sue could have done any more.

Spacious house with room to spread out, easy to keep clean and prepare meals when eating in. At the sea edge with views of the Cumbrian fells in the far distance on sunny days. Just one constructive suggestion; perhaps the king size bed mattress needs an upgraded, up to date replacement.

Spent a wonderful, relaxing week at Dairy House soaking up the tranquility, nature and stunning views. The cottage was well equipped, comfy and warm - the owner had thought of every detail required to make our stay as enjoyable as possible from the home made cake and ice cream on arrival to the extremely comfy beds and fluffy towels. She was always on hand to answer any questions we had. A great base to explore Dumfries and Galloway and all that it has to offer visitors. We would certainly recommend to others.

A beautiful place to lay our heads for a week. The views across the bay are utterly stunning and eating brunch on the sunny balcony with the light dancing on the water was such a treat. Our stay in Dairy House was excellent. It was clean, it was warm and everything was provided as per the website.
The view from the cottage was spectacular and the surrounding area - Kirkcudbright, Gatehouse of Fleet and Port Patrick - is delightful.

As always there was a warm and friendly welcome with a delicious cake and local ice-cream waiting. The house had everything we needed and was comfortable and well presented. The team had kindly accepted our food order from a local farm shop and unpacked it into the fridge for us. The sunroom was a real bonus in this property. Having stayed next door previously which didn't have this we all vied to get one of the 2 recliners and watch the sea come in as the sun went down - watching the many wading birds and hearing a tawny owl close by calling with 2 others in the distance replying was such a treat. A fabulous location with fantastic properties.

This was our first visit to Ross Bay Retreat since 2019 and our first ever stay in Dairy House. We have now stayed in all the holiday cottages and can't decide which is our favourite! The house was extremely comfortable for our group of 5 adults and 3 dogs and it was great to spend time in the Retreat Room gazing out at the sea or sitting relaxing in the garden . We very much appreciated the lemon drizzle cake and ice-cream, as well as the treat bags for our dogs. Ross Bay Retreat is the ideal place to come for a relaxing break in a fantastic cottage. We had a magnificent week at Dairy House - Ross Bay Retreat and can’t recommend it highly enough.
The house is comfortable, immaculately clean and well kitted out with quality furniture and equipment (no hand me downs here!).
Sue the host has thought of everything and is friendly and very helpful. She’s an absolute gem. Nothing was too much trouble.
The location of the farm around the bay was idyllic - watching the sunrise from the bedroom and the tide ebb and flow was magical. So much wildlife to see from the obvious seabirds to hares and deer. (One tip - take your wellies as the sand can be a bit muddy although Sue has thoughtfully put in an outside tap to rinse your boots or dog off!)
Fabulous area to visit. Lots of gorgeous coastline, interesting lighthouses, National Trust properties, quaint villages and towns and our favourite gardens. Glenwhan is an absolute must as is Broughton House in Kirkcudbright.
Five stars just doesn’t do it justice. Needless to say we have booked for next year!

The Dairy House is wonderful. It’s very spacious, light and clean. We found it a very relaxing place to spend our week away in. The living room and snug are very comfortable as are the bedrooms. The kitchen/dining area is a very pleasant space to cook and dine in and very well kitted out with all you need to prepare meals and wash up afterwards. The lawn area overlooking Ross Bay was superb for sitting out on and admiring the wonderful scenery and the back garden is brilliant for catching the evening rays whilst getting the barbie on with a nice glass of wine at hand. Sue is a great host; very welcoming and helpful but leaves you to get on with your holiday. A special mention must go to the delicious Victoria sponge that she made for us. It went down well with the Cream of Galloway ice cream that she left in the freezer to accompany it. Yum yum.
We loved our week here so much that we booked a fortnight away (before we had left) for next year.

The Dairy House is a haven of peace, it seemed larger than we thought so that was a bonus too. The relaxation/meditation room was wonderful, over looking Ross Bay watching the tide come in and out. The owner was lovely, very welcomng and accomodating. Even though there are four units we felt very secluded. The furnishings and decoration gave it a lovely modern, fresh, vibrant feel.

Perfectly situated the views were sensational, the walks glorious and the beaches loved by the dog. We loved to watch all manner of sea birds from our balcony, there was wild life in abundance and if you needed to go into town for anything Kirkcudbright was an easy drive away. Sue was an extremely good host, we tried to eke out the chocolate fudge cake to last the week, but as the days went by the slices got larger so we missed out for a couple of days. The best ice cream ever comes from Galloway ice cream its just a pity we cant get it in our part of the world. We cannot recommend Ross strongly enough. There was one tiny niggle for me, my elderly legs found it very difficult to manage the stairs, they were extremely slippery and I do think they need some sort of grips on the edge or maybe a carpet runner but this in no way spoilt what was a most enjoyable holiday experience. It is great when Ross Bay and all its nature is enjoyed and appreciated by our guests. We are really pleased they enjoyed their stay in Dairy House, the cake and ice cream. The stairs........they are a tricky one......we have used non slip professional floor paint on the stairs in Dairy House, and we have considered carpet / a runner however then we are faced with the issue of cleaning carpets when mucky paws and prints, or spillages occur........most guests find the stairs ok if they wear slippers or shoes, and others choose to stay in our single story cottages - avoiding stairs all together!

The views across Ross Bay are fantastic. Being right on the beach was ideal for keeping our grandsons busy. The house had everything that we needed for our stay and was clean, well equipped, comfortable and nicely decorated.

Previously stayed in the old cheeseloft, this was our first time in the dairy house. Different character with slightly more traditional features in the dairy house but it was just as comfortable and relaxing. Lovely location, facilities, welcome etc.

Absolutely fabulous holiday with my husband and two children. The cottage was spacious, clean, well kitted out and with spectacular views from the windows. I loved sitting out on the patio with my morning cuppa watching the sun glistening off the sea and listening to the birds while the family were still asleep. On a clear night the amount of stars visible was incredible. Sue was friendly and approachable, nothing was too much trouble, and made us a welcome chocolate cake to die for! We spent many hours wandering straight from the door around the bay rock pooling and collecting sea glass, or through the fields and forests exploring hidden bays and marvelling at the view, not forgetting evening walks along the lane to see the bulls! The location was great for exploring the beautiful south west coast and Galloway Forest Park. There are lots of other child friendly attractions nearby, farms, chocolate making workshop, gem and rock museum. We had such a brilliant time, we were all so sad when the week was over. Would I recommend Dairy House and Ross Bay Retreat? Well, we have rebooked for 2022 and 2023 so I guess that’s a yes!

This was our first visit to Ross Bay Retreat, so we did not know what to expect. However, from the moment we arrived we knew we had made a good choice. The house was very clean and comfortable. Someone once told that if the bed you are going to isn't as comfortable as the one who leave at home don't go. Well, the beds were "just right" as a certain golden haired girl said on trying the little bear's bed. As for settings, I put a picture of the bay on social media and there very many appreciative comments, some suggested it was suitable for framing. We found it a peaceful and restful place for a holiday. We had already booked for next year before returning home. A big thank you to Sue our host for her cakes and ice cream and above all for being open and friendly.

Lovely property and well equipped. Beautiful views. Cake and ice cream very welcome. Endless hot water and great central heating. A pyrex roasting dish would be a useful addition to the kitchen.
We were lucky with our timing as bluebells were in flower everywhere, and the walk through the woods to the little silver sand cove was very nice.
Additional footpath signage locally (local authority I guess) would have helped us to not get lost on some of our walks out, and we did find some locked gates, which meant we had to retrace our steps which was frustrating.
We would have brought wellington boots with us if we'd known in advance that the beach area in front of the property was mainly mud and not sand. The boot washing tap and hose provided beside the property came in useful anyway to clean our hiking boots when we sank in the mud.

Thank you Sue for a lovely stay at the Diary House. We loved the area and appreciated your welcome and cake and ice cream. Just a few thoughts to improve your excellent accomodation. Niggles all but worth a mention. We used all the side tables provided but would also have liked a larger coffee table in the sitting room. In the kitchen the knives really need a sharpen and also the frying pan is a little worse for wear.

This was our fifth time at Ross Bay and first time in Dairy House which is just beautiful. We love everything about Ross Bay and it really is the perfect getaway. Dairy House is a lovely cosy cottage with idyllic views. This is definitely a place to unwind and enjoy the beautiful coastal scenery. The cottage is well equipped and the welcoming cake was gorgeous. Some might feel that it is too cut off and there certainly is not laid on entertainment except for the changing tides, but for us it was perfect.

A beautiful cottage tastefully decorated and furnished with lots of space to easily accommodate 5 guests. The retreat room was our favourite and on those sunny mornings to open the doors, sit outside and enjoy the stunning views. It was so quiet and totally relaxing and it’s easy to see why people keep returning and we certainly hope to do so very soon. Also the chocolate cake was gorgeous thank you, it was a lovely welcome on a rainy day.

Another great stay at Dairy House, everything was perfect as usual. Our dogs loved their welcome packs and we played with the balls on the beach at Brighouse Bay. Cleanliness was exemplary and we felt really safe despite the COVID19 situation, Sue and her team have ensured everything is done right and we were very grateful. The cake as always was gorgeous. Our annual trip to Ross Bay Retreat and once again cannot find any faults. Sue and family are best type of hosts that you could want, and in current covid climate every care is being taken to provide a safe environment for their guests. Only complaint is cant get in for next summer, but back in May 2021 and Hemsley Hideaway booked for August 2021 and know that same standards will be met.

Repeat visit to Ross Bay after 6 year gap. Everything just as good! Accomodation all you could want, at times too warm! Welcome and back up from Sue excellent and so friendly. Ross Bay and area peaceful,loads of walking opportunities within not too many miles. Wildlife good and could see how beautiful it's going to be when the bluebells are out in the many, many woods around the area. Fantastic empty beaches. Couldn't eat out or shop due to Corona but never bored in the beautiful countryside and coast. How lucky we were to get our holiday in before Corona stopped non essential travel.

Beautiful cottage - the photos on the website really don't do it justice, it's gorgeous; stunning scenery, so peaceful and relaxing. It's the sort of place you don't really want to tell anyone about!! We originally booked for 4 days and ended up staying for a week. Sue was very welcoming and helpful, an excellent host, and her lemon drizzle cake was to die for. It was a joy to open the curtains every morning and look across the bay. The dogs had a great time, they love beaches and water no matter what time of year. Every day they were wet, muddy, and shivering, yet they still kept running back in the sea!! An absolutely wonderful week.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dairy House. Stunning property in a great location if you want peace and tranquillity and to escape every day Life then this is the place for you. Very clean, comfortable, well maintained and a warm welcome all make for an excellent stay. My only comment to improve if there is room for improvement, would be the Kitchen utensil side of things was quite limited. Marketed as Family property that can sleep up to 5 people we struggled to cook meals for 5 due to the small pans, lack of utensils etc. that's when you notice the difference between your home kitchen and that in a self catering holiday property.
Its only a minor critique though as, the owners are exceptional at what they do and provide a wonderful holiday / weekend break experience and I have no hesitation in recommending to others. we will certainly be back.

Just a note regarding the utensils and pans....... we have a full Stellar pan set with different size pans and a separate frying pan, along with a varied set of kitchen craft utensils, however we may not have specialist cooking equipment that our guests may enjoy using at home. We will have another look and see what improvements we can make. Recommendations to stay with us are always welcome and we hope to see our guests returning again.

Everything the website said. Sue came to welcome us on arrival and came to see us again before we left to make sure everything had been ok. Before we arrived she very kindly offered to receive a groceries delivery for us from Asda in the morning and we were super happy when we arrived and she had even put everything away!! Also as a welcome a homemade "to die for"chocolate fudge cake was waiting for us with locally produced ice cream in the freezer to go with it. Yummy.
The views were amazing and even Storm Ciara didn't spoil our stay. The bay is beautiful and the sunrises and sunsets from the front windows are a treat.
Lots of things to do and people very friendly. Wifi and phone signals good if you want to be in touch. For a getaway from it all break we would highly recommend. So much so we have already booked to go back later this year.

We booked a last minute break in Dairy House (we usually stay in Creel Cottage but it was booked). We weren't disappointed. Sue and her husband always provide a warm welcome and the standard of the cottages are exceptionally high. The cottage was well equipped and exceptionally warm - which was great as the weather wasn't the greatest. We loved the retreat room in the cottage with the 'stressless' recliner chairs and it's view. Very relaxing. And of course the tasty chocolate cake.
Ross bay retreat is ideally situated to visit the surrounding area and there are loads of local attractions if you want to get out and about. Alternatively if you prefer, like us - park the car up for the week and explore the coastline and many acres around the farm. Despite the weather we enjoyed several walks especially the one to Brighouse Bay and even managed a few days sea fishing. You really have the best of both worlds with the cottages location and can be as active as you wish or just put your feet up and relax. We can't wait to return in November and look forward to staying in the Byre by the sea.

A really well appointed and comfortable house in an amazing location. We stayed for a week over New Year and started to relax the minute we stepped over the threshhold. Sue had baked us a wonderful lemon drizzle cake, the Christmas decorations were a lovely touch as well as the unexpected New Year gifts as a welcome. The house was toasty warm throughout our stay, The beds was sumptuously comfortable. We had a choice of two bathrooms, one up stairs and another shower room downstairs. The showers were excellent. We loved the inspirational wall art. The owners really have thought of every comfort here and we'd certainly consider staying again.
The views from the from the front windows were wonderful and we saw some fantastic sunrises and sunsets.Lots of walks nearby and the family cat even accompanied us on one of our walks, much to the amusements of the children! We spotted some wildlife including deer and even a dolphin from the cliff tops.

We had read fantastic reviews of the Dairy house before we booked and it did not disappoint. A stunning location, amazing views and the house itself was so comfortable and furnished with such attention to detail. A fabulous hideaway right on a beautiful bay, Dairy House accommodated four adults and two dogs in comfort. Plenty of space to spread out and relax, within easy reach (by car or on foot) of a glorious beach enjoyed by humans and canines alike. Although Kircudbright is an easy drive away, the feeling we had was one of seclusion and remoteness: a total break away from it all. And a chocolate cake with ice cream greeted us on our arrival: what more could we ask for! Sue is a great host, around if there are problems (we had none) but otherwise unobtrusive. Highly recommended.

So incredibly warm, that we never thought about lighting the stove.
Great views across the muddy sand bay, where we watched various wildlife.
Good walking on the doorstep.
A large, very edible fruit cake awaited us on arrival.
A good size kitchen, lounge and a small sun room, with great views and relaxing chairs.
Kitchen well, stocked though could do with sharper knives and a pestle and mortar (I’m a bit of a cooking junkie when on holiday).
Bedrooms good size, with good views.
Both bathrooms have piping hot water, and the bath is nice and wide.
Stars at night truly amazing.
Sue couldn’t be more welcoming and helpful, despite helping to run a busy farm.

Well what can i say, the owner went above and beyond to ensure we had the best expeirence possible. The accomadation is a home from home and definetly makes it warm and inviting. The sunsets and sunrises are magical and so is the homemade cake you will receive on arrival.

Relaxing short break in this lovely cottage with sea views . It is a very peaceful location and the owners offer a warm welcome with home made cake! Excellent level of cleanliness and plenty of space in the house with modern bathrooms and kitchen. Near to Kirkcudbright for restaurants and shops with easy access to the surrounding area. Only drawback is the early departure time.

Our departure time of 9.30 - 10am allows us time to clean the cottage to a high standard which takes at least 4 hours, get the heating on, the kettle boiled, cake and ice cream in place, all prepared ready for our next guests arriving at 3.30pm, whom are usually keen to arrive on time to settle in and make the most of their holiday.

We have just had yet another fabulous holiday in Ross Bay in Dairy House we love it here and each visit brings something different. We were lucky enough to see the largest full moon rise over the bay that cast the perfect shadows in the water quite magical and a photographers dream, followed by stunning morning sunrises breathtaking.. Plenty of wildlife about too with deer strolling across the bay, red kite and other rapture birds soaring quietly above and the little robin who visited every morning. This was just experienced from the beautiful cottage we were in which is a good now as it was on our first stay three years ago, very clean, cosy with very taseful decor and with all the essentials you need. It is a perfect base to explore this beautiful hospitable county or you could spend a week just in the cottage taking in the views and nature around you, so relaxing. Our dogs love it here, so many walks for them beach, town and countryside. Already planning our next visit, never has a place captured our hearts as much as Ross Bay. Thank you Sue and family, your cake is legendary and hospitality second to none.

We know the area and found Diary Cottage online, The cottage was very good value all inclusive & was for a for a special holiday. The cottage was well equipped warm and nicely decorated. Beds were comfortable. The best part for me was its location with lots of views and nature around the farm. A great place to relax.

We had a lovely week - all so relaxing with the farm being off the beaten track and with the wonderful sea views from the front windows. Cottage is fabulous and comfortable - brilliant showers, comfy beds, beautiful kitchen, great lounge and sun room with reclining chairs to relax in - and all within an hour or less of great places to visit - Galloway Forest Park, Gatehouse of Fleet, Kippford and Rockliffe etc etc ....... and great for dogs too..! Sad to leave..!

The Dairy House is a fantastic 5* cottage in a breathtaking rural location. Sue and the family had really gone the extra mile to provide an exceptional service... Homemade cake and Easter Eggs on arrival, our internet shopping had been received and put away. During our stay the weather was mixed, but it was almost a joy to be driven into the house by the wind, sleet and rain and have the perfect excuse to snuggle up by the log burner!

We booked Dairy House for a short break. We were very much in need of a few days just to chill and relax and this was just the place. Warm and quiet with a great view of the sea. We spent our days walking the dogs, sitting reading or painting and just enjoying the view, we saw a Seal in the bay only a few metres away one day when it was high tide. We were there in March and they weather was mixed but inside Dairy House it was toasty and warm all the time so quite nice to be inside just looking out at the weather.

Everything is provided for a comfortable stay, and we much appreciated the supply of cleaning materials and toiletries. The setting overlooking the bay is glorious and the peace and serenity was one of our favourite things about the holiday. Although there are many attractions in the area, there is really no need to leave the cottage, as the views are superb, and the quality of light changes throughout the day with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. It is excellent for bird watchers, and there are also pleasant walks on the surrounding farmland. We were fortunate to have some lovely sunny weather to enjoy these surroundings, but felt that we would have been equally happy staying in the comfort of the cottage had the weather been equally bad. The owner, Sue, was extremely pleasant and helpful, but not at all intrusive. All in all, Ross Bay was a wonderful place to celebrate a milestone birthday, and we all enjoyed it so much that we have already booked another holiday later in the year.

This was our second visit to Ross Bay and the Dairy House and again we were blessed with good weather. Sue once again made us very welcome and the chocolate cake was to die for. Ross Bay is a lovely place to visit and you can do as much or as little as you want. Some fantastic walks close by and only a short drive to some lovely coastal areas too. Would highly recommend it for a great time at a really good price. The Dairy House is lovely and is finished to a very high standard with all the home comforts you could possibly want. Excellent for star gazing with no light pollution. Hope to be back again soon.

A very comfortable, exceptionally clean house with lots of character, Dairy House exceeded expectations. Great sized rooms with good quality furniture, bedding and kitchen equipment. Views are lovely. Sue gave us a lovely welcome and was very helpful with any questions we had. The chocolate fudge cake that was left for our arrival was delicious! We stayed at the Dairy House, a very well equipped and furnished house in a very peaceful location, we will definitely make a return visit. It provides for a holiday that offers something for everyone, you can do as much or as little as you want!
Many visitor attractions within easy reach, plenty of information is provided in the house but one of the most memorable things for me was gazing at the stars at 4am one morning - amazing!
Ross Bay Retreat is located a few miles away from local amenities, the pub in Borgue is about 3 miles but for us it didn't matter. Kirkcudbright is not too far away and has all the shops that you need. A very nice Deli, a small Tesco and Co op store, a very good Fish & Chip shop ( I can recommend the pan fried Halibut) , bakeries and many more.
A little further afield is Castle Douglas that has an amazing Artisan Bakery, fabulous Chocolate Brownies which we had with some Cream of Galloway Ice Cream!

We spent two lovely weeks at Dairy House and would recommend the holiday home to all. Perfectly situated with lovely views. Natural sounds and farm business only sounds for the majority of our stay. Perfect hostess in Susan, all our needs were met. Her welcome cakes (and ice cream) are a wonderful treat and great way to start the holiday with a relaxing cuppa. No worries for parking as each cottage has a designated parking spot. Good wi-fi, mobile reception depended where you were in the cottage. Only thing we would have different would for the back garden area to be lawned but that would be our choice, as it is it is easier to maintain. We would recommend a stay here to anyone at any time of year.

We have just returned from our lovely stay at Dairy House and would go back without hesitation.
We arrived at Dairy House to a warm kettle, an absolutely amazing chocolate cake and some ice cream.....wow!
The house is perfect, clean, welcoming, well equipped, homely. We found everything we needed during our stay, there was even a selection of games, dvds and books. There isn't anything to improve. The house was lovely and warm, the water hot and plentiful.
Sue the owner was friendly and helpful, nothing was a bother.
Dairy House is located in the perfect setting, quiet and relaxing with amazing views. We spent our evenings sitting in the sun room looking out over the bay, beautiful.
We didn't want to leave!

The presentation is absolutely first class,cleanliness is superb in the property also crockery ,pans and utensils spotless.cooker,fridge/freezer excellent. This was an unexpected find, a gem. Sue has put a great deal of effort into making guests welcome into a comfortable and well equipped holiday home. The setting is beautiful; a secluded bay with plenty of walks nearby. Kirkcudbright is a lovely town fifteen minutes away by car, but Ross Bay is set in the heart of the Solway Coast: there is so much to see. The house is more than comfortable, light and well equipped with excellent kitchen. The special touches: A personal welcome (and cake!), a goodbye and check that all was to our satisfaction, with generous notes about the area, dog -friendly and walker-friendly. We've stayed in many holiday cottages, this is one of the best.

We were very fortunate with the weather and had a wonderful time. The location is excellent - very quiet but with Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas just a short car ride away. The walks from the cottage are excellent especially the one to the ruined church past the bluebell woods. The accommodation itself was superb and well designed and maintained.

Just returned from a fabulous week at Ross Bay Retreat staying in Dairy Cottage. The cottage itself is so clean, comfortable and well equipped with the most amazing views over the bay. A delicious chocolate cake was waiting for us when we arrived - what a lovely treat! Sue and David are brilliant hosts and couldn't do enough to make sure we had a brilliant time. Lots of lovely relaxing walks with our dog and some cycling too. Plenty of great places to visit nearby and the countryside around is absolutely breathtaking. We had the added advantage of wall to wall sunshine for most of the week.
Cannot recommend highly enough! A** all round.

This is such a beautiful, luxurious cottage in an idyllic remote location, with amazing views over Ross Bay in the grounds of the owners farm. The owner Sue is very attentative but not intrusive. Just got back from staying at The dairy house what a Fabulous place. we were met by Sue who was a super host from start to finish, she was so helpful but not intrusive.
we were blown away by the wonderful accommodation and fabulous views from the rooms,everything was catered for including a tasty banana loaf and ice cream on arrival.The area around the farm is breathtaking and we had some lovely walks and we mountain biked to the next bay.
Kirkcudbright is a lovely town with plenty of shops and a couple of supermarkets overall we would highly recommend staying at Ross bay retreat.

We had a fantastic time at Ross Bay. Our welcome from Sue was very much appreciated, the kettle boiled and a fabulous chocolate fudge cake and ice cream waiting for us too. The cottage has been beautifully renovated and everything you could need provided even little packs of "just in case you forgot" in the kitchen and bathroom. The views from the cottage are breathtaking both during the day and in the evening. We were lucky enough to have clear skies and an unbelievable view of the stars. We will certainly be back again.

Everything was perfect, the cottage, the very high standards of finish and cleanliness and the little things which make it homely, and lastly but not least the fabulous welcome. Oh, and the cake which was gorgeous.
This is our second holiday in Dairy House, we didn't want to go home it is that beautiful. The weather was perfect too. We enjoyed some lovely walks with the dogs in the local countryside and at the beach, there are plenty of places to walk and explore for us and the dogs. We can't say enough about the cottage and Sue and her family, its the most beautiful and welcoming place we have ever been to. So perfect for us that we have booked again!

Communication with Sue , the owner was great. On arrival she came very quickly to ensure that all was fine.
It was cosy and warm for our arrival. Everything we needed for our stay was at hand. The beds are comfortable and all rooms are a good size.
The welcoming Chocolate Cake and Ice Cream went down a treat over the next few days.
The views from the property are fantastic.....ever changing light and colour.
Although the property is on a working farm we were never disturbed by noise.
We would certainly use Ross Bay Retreat again.
PS. Make sure you have all your groceries as the nearest shop is about 7 miles away.

We try hard to ensure our communication from booking through to arrival and settling in are top notch and like to be on hand for our guests during their stay. Most people feel that they are miles away from anything when they stay at Ross Bay as it is so quiet (apart from some of the animals some of the time!), yet actually only a few miles away from beautiful Kirkcudbright and all the facilities it has to offer. We enjoy the scenic drive along the shore road to town!

Our third stay, wonderful as ever - the cottage, warmth of the welcome and location are all second to none. We visited places which have become old friends, found new favourites and still haven't exhausted the possibilities - we have a list for next year already - yes, we have booked again. Not something we normally do but Ross Bay Retreat is a special place run with heart and soul by some of life's lovely people and it's both a pleasure and a privilege to return.

This was our 3rd visit to Ross Bay. Our 1st was to Creel Cottage. 2nd and 3rd were to Dairy House. While we were there we had a little look around The Old Cheeseloft which is AMAZING sooooooo ... I'm sensing a pattern here ... we have recommended these cottages to a lot of our friends and family and several of them have stayed / booked already!
I can only go over the usual praises - the views, tranquility, surroundings, BEAUTIFUL cottages etc etc the list is endless. And Sue and her family are beautiful people; approachable, kind, friendly, nothing is too much trouble. The cake on arrival is like nothing I have ever tasted and ice cream from Cream of Galloway waiting in the freezer! Every year we have a trailer ride around the farm to see the place in all it's glory and it's all these little extra thoughtful gestures that contribute to this being the most wonderful place to stay.

I could not have wished for better accommodation or location, the house was spotlessly clean, well equiped and comfortable. Would have liked drawers in bedrooms but that is a personal thing as don't like living out of suitcase. Would recommend to anyone and will be going back.

A beautiful house set in beautiful surroundings. Unfortunately I had received back surgery the morning of our first day and when we first arrived after a long journey we were greeted with the biggest and tastiest chocolate fudge cake and local made icecream. Sue soon came to welcome us and instantly wanted us to make ourselves feel at home. We cannot thank Sue enough for her fantastic hospitality throughout the week, nothing was too much for her.
The house was beautifully decorated throughout to a very high standard. The little snug room with the reclining chairs looking out onto the sea was a fab little touch, which we took advantage of every morning and evening.
I could go on and on about the location, it truly is beautiful and waking up to the gentle lapping of waves on the beach and the singing of swallows was instantly relaxing. We are already planning our return next year!

This is the best cottage we have ever stayed in, service and cleanliness were fantastic. The decor was beautiful and relaxing, the stressless chairs were amazing. We had everything we needed and Sue's attention to detail was just perfect. The situation was excellent, quiet and relaxing, with lovely walks and stunning scenery. We chanced across Ross Bay Retreats on the Internet when we were looking for somewhere to stay in Dumfries and Galloway. The photos on the website looked great and certainly helped with our decision making. It's very rare I can say this, but the photos don't do it justice! We stayed in the Dairy House which has the "wow" factor from the moment you step through the door. Light, airy and spacious. The interior decor and quality of furnishings and linens are excellent and perfectly compliment the wonderful surrounding countryside.
Walks from the cottage door are superb and simply sitting either in the relax room or out on the terrace watching the ever changing sea and tides is absolute bliss.
I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough (and I must confess I was rather reluctant to write a review which means more people get to know about it!). We take approx 4 self catering holidays a year in the UK and this is up there with the absolute best. Huge congratulations to Sue and her family for creating Ross Bay Retreats. Superb!

This was our second stay at the Dairy House that alone should speak volumes. The cottage which is situated on a working farm is very clean, well equipped and very comfortable. The owners Sue and David are very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them. Although the location may not be to everyone's liking, being 10 minutes drive to the nearest town of Kirkcudbright, it is our ideal, being located next to the sea, surrounded by green rolling hills and to be able to enjoy watching the ebb and flow of the sea from the comfort of a reclining chair with the mountains of the Lake District in the far distance is brilliant.

With this lovely weather we have had some lovely views, great sunrises and sunsets here at Ross which our guests have enjoyed. The farm ducks and geese do like to have a wander around and a dip in the pond when they feel like it! absolutely lovely, so quiet and the weather was great every day. The dogs just love going straight out onto the beach and we love the changing views from the windows. Sue and family are brilliant and we got to see the lambs being fed. My mum loved the decoration of the house and has ordered the paint and light fittings for her house! We will be back as soon as we can, I need my Ross Bay fix to keep me going!

The whole "experience" is fantastic. The cottage, the location and Dumfries and Galloway. It is an area I knew little about but has so much going for it. Never seen so many amazing sunsets and sunrises! Dog friendly and lots of walks from the house around the coast and to the beaches. Sue is so helpful and the chocolate fudge cake it to die for!!! I cannot fault anything and I have been to a lot of cottages in Scotland over the years!

Dumfries and Galloway as a region has so much to offer, as does our part of the Stewartry. The cottages have a great view of the early morning sunrises from the balconies and the setting sun from the rear garden areas. We had a lovely week in Dairy cottage. We were welcomed by a delicious home baked chocolate cake with local ice cream , and the kettle was warm! The view is lovely and lots of excellent walks around about. The cottage has lots of welcome extras that you often don't get in a self catering cottage. Excellent value for money and would have no hesitation in recommending.

The house is in immaculate condition and contains everything one might need. The welcome from Sue couldn't have been warmer and the house is situated in a lovely spot. The nearest town Kirkcudbright is delightful, elegant houses, real trawlers pulling up at the harbour and the people really friendly. A holiday here is a truely tranquil experience.

Ross Bay Retreat took our breath away Wow was the first word out of our mouths and Wow again when we opened the door to Dairy Cottage. The place is faultless, what a beautiful, tranquil place to stay not only is the place amazing but then you meet the owners Sue, David and their two children who are the kindest most helpful people you could meet, nothing to much trouble and always around if you needed anything not that you would Sue has thought about everything including the most amazing chocolate fudge cake to welcome you, that is worth the visit itself. The cottage is spotlessly clean and very tastefully decorated with lovely inspiring quotes around each room and is wonderfully warm and cosy on those colder days. The little room with patio doors is a real treat where you can sit and relax. The Bay itself is a dream as if time stood still with views you imagine in your mind, it has it all the sea, the countryside, animals, wildlife, the views and lovely friendly neighbours who are lucky enough to live around the bay all year. It really doesn't matter if it rains or shines here you could never fail to be unhappy, if you love all of the above I have mentioned then you will have found a paradise. We will be returning as often as possible. Thank you Sue we loved it and so did the dogs.

We feel that a welcome cake, Cream o Galloway ice cream and a warm kettle for a cuppa ready when our guests arrive should give that "aahh we are on holiday feeling". The icing on the cake for us is returning guests, who enjoy all Ross Bay and Kirkcudbright have to offer.

We simply could not have had a better holiday. Dairy House is beautiful, the reality surpasses the photos, and the location right on the Bay and the views are stunning. Spent a lot of time watching the tide roll in and out, and some beautiful clear nights when the moon made a path across the water. And I haven't mentioned the chocolate cake (it's a Bake Off winner) and the warmth of the welcome from Sue and the family. Lots of things to see and do nearby (bike riding, beaches, Laggan Outdoor - grass sledging and archery - sea swimming in wetsuits, Scottish Night, Tattoo and Maggie's Tours in Kirkcudbright, shell beach at Kippford and Cream o'Galloway). We didn't need to go far from the house, really slowed down and enjoyed just being. We saw loads of wildlife - red deer, red kites, herons, oyster catchers and an adder up in the hills. A very special place, and an absolutely wonderful holiday.

We have enjoyed many of the activities which take place over Summer here in Kirkcudbright and feel very privileged to be able to tell our guests how great they are, and even meet them there! We drove to this lovely place and first glance new it would be nice. The Dairy house is Delightful and very very clean, comfortable. decorated beautifully throughout the house . Large well equipped kitchen dinner.Three big bedroom. Very comfortable . Sea view amazing sit in sun room and watch birds and sea roll by and just after about 5 oclock watch the white ducks going for a walk very comical to watch. This is very a relaxing quite place. Owners very friendly and helpful .Lots of walk and place to vistit or just relax wonderful. There was a delicious choclate fudge cake made by the owner and creamGalloway ice cream in freezer. We had a wonderful relaxing holiday .

We are really pleased to have received this lovely review. First impressions are always important so we are happy that this review reflects that, along with our cake and ice cream! Our new duck pond seems to be working well, and the ducks set off before bed for a walk along the shoreline garden area in front of the cottages and walk back again, then have a swim before bedtime! They say everyone has a 'happy place' - well Ross Bay Retreat is mine. From the moment of arrival (to home made chocolate fudge cake and 'Cream of Galloway' ice cream) to the time we had to leave (with heavy hearts) it does exactly what it says on the tin. Outstanding cottage set in beautiful landscape with absolutely amazing views what more could we ask. Plenty to do around the area and plenty of time spent simply watching the tide roll out ... and the tide roll in again!
The owners are lovely - more like friends, and cannot do enough for you. This is my second visit to Ross Bay Retreat and I have already booked again for next year - cannot rate this place highly enough.

Perfect location, perfect accommodation. We had a fab stay for a week in this gorgeous place. Lots of coast and ozone, incredibly comfortable house, warm and snug, light and airy. Yummy chocolate cake and ice cream on arrival. We stayed with our three young boys who had a great time puddling around on the beach, climbing rocks and walking over the cliffs. A really lovely holiday. Thank you Sue and family.

What a great review - thank you so much. It is amazing how much time can be spent on the beach, (although ours in not as sandy as others), beachcombing, rockpooling, digging and splashing around. Our second stay at Ross Bay and our first at the Dairy House. As with Creel Cottage everything was spot on, the cottage was spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated and there was everything we could wish for to have a very comfortable relaxing holiday. We certainly made the most of the retreat room relaxing in the comfy Stressless chairs overlooking the bay watching the ever changing light and the tide coming and going. The area is very scenic with its gently rolling hills, craggy coastline and the quaint nearby towns of Kirkcudbright and Gatehouse of Fleet, ideal for walking or generally exploring. We will be booking shortly for our third visit and are already looking forward to it. Thank you to Sue, Dave and family.

Great accommodation and location for recharging your batteries. All rooms had been thoughtfully decorated and equipped with a great eye for detail. It seemed to us that Sue and family had given a lot of thought to needs of their guests. The little room off the kitchen was a great retreat. Enjoyed nothing more than sitting in the recliners watching the tides come and go with nothing between us at Ross Bay and the Cumbrian Fells. Superb!

Staying at Dairy House was an absolute delight,5 star accommodation with amazing sea views.A warm welcome from the family and sue baked an amazing chocolate cake so good we greedily asked for another one.
Furnished to a very high standard, including toiletries we felt very pampered.
Booked a return visit before we left, just wish it could be sooner but it is full up.Highly recommended.

Choosing the furniture and furnishings was great, contemplating what guests may enjoy and find pleasing - the Ekornes stressless recliner chairs with foot stools we feel are excellent to relax, unwind and take in the view from the retreat room, and Laura Ashley fabrics and furnishings are good to work with. My family and I were recently lucky enough to spend the weekend in Dairy House down at Ross Bay.We love it here.(We spent a week in the equally gorgeous Creel Cotrage next door last summer.)After a stressful week at work I felt instantly relaxed the minute I saw the view.Even in yucky miserable rain the setting of dairy house is still glorious!
The house itself is absolutely stunning.Sue has impeccable taste and you truly get a 5 star experience the minute you walk through the door. It is a stylish ,comfortable ,contemporary home from home filled with everything you could possibly need.Sue really has thought of every detail...
An amazing chocolate fudge cake (freshly baked by Sue )was smiling at me on the kitchen table when we arrived.So delicious I have to confess my daughter and I even ate some for breakfast! You can walk it off though as there are a number of coastal walks in and around the bay....my daughter loves to plitter about on the beach in her wellies ...or you can just relax in the retreat room with a book, a glass of prosecco and another slice of cake!!
The house is spacious and boasts spectacular views from almost every window.I really could look at the view all day long. It is spotless and the beds were super comfy.I really didn't wan't to come home!!I Infact my daughter was keen to move in :)
Thanks again to Sue and her family who were superb hosts as usual.Can't wait to come back in July.

Thanks for this superb review, it really gives us pleasure when people come here for a holiday and have a great experience - it is what holidays are all about. Newly and beautifully renovated, an idyllic spot right on the shore with panoramic views over the Solway to the Cumbrian mountains, a warm and genuine welcome, the best chocolate cake we have ever eaten, and the most wonderful hosts in Sue and her family. It's so good here that we booked a repeat stay in the summer on the day we arrived. Dairy House itself is stunning - beautifully decorated and furnished in a calm seaside palette, (with some funky touches - we loved the Jazzy chair) and everything thought of. Lambs and calves in the fields, gorse in bloom (and primroses and violets) and everywhere greening up. We very much enjoyed Cream o'Galloway, amazing views from Knockbrex, fish and chips in Kirkcudbright and the shell beach at Kippford.But perhaps most of all watching the tide roll in and out and the ever changing views, sea and bird life in the bay. Come, even if it means the Dairy House gets so booked up in the future that we can't. We'd like to keep it to ourselves, but enjoyed our stay and the area so much, and left feeling so refreshed that we honestly can't do that.

We are pleased how it has turned out and hope that our guests enjoy relaxing, dining, unwinding and just taking in the beautiful views from the retreat room, balcony, sitting room, or even having a cuppa in bed looking out to sea!
