This characterful small castle is close to the River Tummel with a view over the river to Schiehallion mountain. It sleeps 7 in three bedrooms plus 1 extra fold-up bed.(see details). The master bedroom has a four-poster and overlooks the river. Down by the riverbank there is a bonfire site where you can gather fallen branches and sit around the camp fire of an evening with family and friends. You can walk along the riverside. The garden is unenclosed.

Yet again we had an amazing holiday at East Lodge on the Dunalastair estate. The weather was absolutely wonderful, not having to wear a coat all holiday.
Some of the items in the cottage have been updated, the couches, chair, fridge freezer and washing machine, all being top quality items and extremely comfortable couches.
We always find that everything you could possibly need is provided and the welcome touches are perfect. The cottage is extremely warm and very cosy with all of the comforts. The scenery and area are perfect, and we never run out of things to do, bit if you just want to relax, it is a perfect place to stay. We have been going to Dunalastair for many years now, and many times a year, which says it all. We are only home about 12 days this time and back again, staying at the farmhouse, which is also amazing. We can't wait to return.
Thank you all at Dunalastair for another wonderful holiday.

A super relaxing half term break. The communication from start to finish was excellent. Fire all prepared when we arrived and house lovely and warm with storage heaters. The location is super - there was a huge storm when we arrived that hit the west coast of Scotland which was amazing. The power cut lasted around 4 hours but with the open fire roaring it was no problem. The river to sit by right outside is fantastic to watch trout jumping and to see plenty of wildlife. Pitlochry is around a 30 minute drive away and has several gift shops etc. it’s a wonderful area and a great place to relax on holiday. The WiFi for the children was great as they could download what they wanted to watch in the evenings.

Our holiday at East Lodge comprised four adults, two children, and a toddler. The house adequately coped with us all, with two adults downstairs with a shower room, and the other two adults and children upstairs with their own bathroom. East Lodge is set in a stunning location with views across the River Tummel and woodland to Schiehallion. We saw plenty of wildlife and interesting plants in the area. If you want a holiday that includes peace and quiet and are interested in enjoying the outdoors and the world of nature then East Lodge is ideal. The booking procedure was effortless and, if the chance arises, we would definitely stay at East Lodge again.

We have had a wonderful time at this beautiful house. Very private, great view. Kitchen is beautiful. Sofa's and double bed need an update. Sofa's are very low and soft, makes them difficult to get up if you are tall or older and less flexible. Masterbed needs a new mattrass as you roll to the middle.

East Lodge was once again amazing. We had a wonderful family holiday, very relaxing, comfortable and fun. We have stayed on Dunalastair estate many times and have loved it every time. We have stayed in six of their cottages and have loved them all. We never tire of coming here. They are all special but East Lodge is our favourite, there is something wonderful about the building, driving through the arch, the river at the end of the garden and the view beyond.
Thank you Rose ,Beartrice and all of the Dunalastair team, we can't wait to return

Our 3rd time to Dunalastair and 2nd to East Lodge. The house itself is comfortable, well equipped, and has plenty of room, but for us the highlight is the location. We love the setting, by the river, and enjoy the wildlife and the peace and tranquility.

What an other excellent stay, this time we were not on our own. We had family from Australia.

We explored, relaxed, talked ate drank and laughed. The dogs love the house more every year exploring swimming (if the water is quiet) we fly fished for the first time.... bought a rod. Great fun but may need some help next year.

So much space and freedom, we sleep more too and so comfy.

I'd say home away from home you need for nothing, tesco delivered so no need to take food with you except maybe for one breakfast.

Then highly recommend going yo visit the House of Bruar where you can buy excellent ready made meals if you like, or some excellent pies and Scotch eggs.

We will be back next year, I think that says it all!!

Thank you for making us so welcome!!

All and all

You've heard of the A Team? Well, we were the ABCD Team, that's the Armstrong Barr Chateau Dunalastair Team. I was rather pleased with that moniker.
We had a great time at East Lodge. It's a super location being out-of-the-way yet close enough to Pitlochry, Perth, and the central belt of Scotland.
Fish were caught; cycle rides ridden; hills were both walked and run.
The property is a lot bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside, with it easily sleeping 8 people. It is such a shame the top tower bedroom can't be used any longer because the views from it are marvellous. The double bedroom with the four poster bed is delightful, with about 4 steps down to access the communal bathroom. The twin room is cosy but spacious enough. The downstairs twin / double bedroom is enormous. The kitchen is large enough to easily sit 8 people around the large table, with enough room for folk to prep the meal. The lounge is very comfortable, and the open fire an added bonus.
I would not recommend this property if you have an issue with mobility as you have to access the front door via stone steps. However, you could on the other hand enter the property via the back door as there is only one step up into the kitchen, then a step up into the lounge, and then sleep in the downstairs bedroom.
The East Lodge is stiuated directly beside the river Tummel so watch out for toddlers, puppies, the insane, getting too close to it, because it does flow quickly. The views of Schiehallion from the Lodge are simply magnificent. You are quite honestly in one of the prettiest parts of Scotland.
The Lodge is warm and inviting but do take lots of cosy clothes as you are in Scotland where the weather can change from one hour to the next, plus, wet weather gear. Wellies are always a good idea and can be kept in the sort-of-bootroom beside the front door where there is a spacious hall for coats, etc. A handy cupboard for the washing machine and tumble dryer is located by the back door.
The ABCD Team are certain you will enjoy your stay at East Lodge. Just like we did!

Once again , we had an amazing holiday on the Dunalastair estate. East Lodge is such a beautiful place to stay, but so are all of the cottages on Dunalastair. The scenery, wildlife and area are all perfect. If you want to walk cycle, fish ,participate in water sports , shop , go sightseeing, it has it all.
We visit time and time again, and never get bored. It is a perfect. East Lodge is so cosy , clean and warm .
Once again we joined Jerry for the archery, his number you will find on the notice board, great fun. We also went to killecrankie for the zip wire experience.
We truly had a wonderful time, and if we could give 10 stars , we would. We are so looking forward to our next visits.
Thank you once again to Rose, Beartrice and everyone on the Dunalastair estate, for a truly wonderful holiday. See you soon. Xx

Customer service was excellent but property needs updating upstairs. Upstairs shower is useless. Mould badly in upstairs twin room and bathroom.

I'm sorry to hear you had issues with the electric shower in East Lodge, we will look at it however it was replaced just last year. Re the mould wasn't quite sure where you saw this, the windows do get blackened slightly as they are only single glazing and in the colder months condensation does tend to form, we have wiped around these and they are done on changeover days. We don't actually subscribe to Sky TV, all the TV channels are the ones available through FreeSat.

Once again, East Lodge was amazing. We had a wonderful time staying on the Dunalastair Estate, very relaxing, cosy , very clean , comfortable and quiet. We have stayed at many of the Dunalastair cottages, and every one is perfect, but we especially like east Lodge when we are visiting with our son and daughter in law and the dogs. My husband and son enjoy the fact that they can fish off the river bank in the garden and there is plenty of space for the dogs to run and have fun. It is very handy for Pitlochry, Aviemore, Bruar falls , The House of Bruar , Dunkeld and The Hermitage.
There is also plenty of wildlife on the estate , perfect for bird watching. We have seen woodpeckers, squirrels, deer otters , eagles and much more.
Overall we feel it is a wonderful place to stay and we are very much looking forward to our next visit.
Thank you once again Rose , Beartrice and all of the team at Dunalastair for making our holiday perfect.

East Lodge is a beautiful place, but so are all of the dunalastair cottages. Every time we stay there, we have the most amazing holiday, so chilled and relaxing. We are drawn to the cottages and area, time and time again, and never disappointed. What better recommendation could you have. We turned up in November after my sons wedding at Gretna Green, on our way up, and on our arrival was a lovely bottle of bubbles and a card waiting for them. Yes we were all together on my son and his wife's honeymoon, but they absolutely love staying there with me and my husband, and it's what they wanted. The dogs are always made welcome, which is a big plus for us, as we are very much animal people, they really enjoy their holiday too. We are about to return in a few days and again in February, and can't wait. Thanks again for letting us stay at your property,

We were party of 4, visiting from USA, needing 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Wanted relaxing place to "come home to" after sightseeing/hiking. This property covered that and more! The drive to and from property can be a little overwhelming at first if not used to winding roads and could be far from major attractions for some. There are a lot of things close by to see and do or the place would be amazing to stay and do nothing at all! We got used to the road quickly and came prepared to explore/drive to attractions so was not an issue personally. It was great to get back from hustle and bustle to have a meal, reflect on our day, and get ready for next day's adventure.

We had a fab stay at East Lodge, its is a fantastic property, sitting on a pretty stretch of the river, looking up at mount Schiehallion - which we climbed during our stay (took us 6 hours, round trip but worth it - we could even see East Lodge from the top - got some pics :) ...What a great week weather wise, we went kayaking and paddleboarding on Loch Rannoch several times and walked down to Dunalsatair water every day, there's a lovely walk around there and passed the old Dunalstair house ruins. Seen the ospreys most days. We had lovely food at Rannoch Tea room. We went for breakfast at the River cafe and evening meal at Loch Rannoch hotel, all in Kinloch Rannoch - all dog friendly. Cant wait to visit again.

East Lodge is a fabulous place in an even better location. We were happy to enjoy fishing, walking, bird spotting, all from the front door. Although Rannoch Moor seems remote there are fine food restaurants within a short drive, but that was the only reason for leaving this wonderful spot. Great Weather for May.

We’ve just got back from fantastic time at East Lodge. From start to finish we could not fault the location, the service provided by Rose, Beatrice and the team at Dunalastair and let’s not forget the fabulous setting and house that is East Lodge with some cold but yet picturesque weather when it snowed for a couple of days. The house is within driving distance if all local amenities and attractions and just a nice place to be for some relaxation. A great time always had there and one that we will return to.

We arrived to a warm cosy spotless mini castle (the grandchildren were in their element and so was I ) completed with Christmas tree and a very appreciated tea and biscuits after a long journey
Living room is great for everyone to relax around the fire (all
Logs provided) the kitchen has a huge table which was great to gather round .. we had 19 in all (+5 dogs ) …other family members were staying in cottages on the estate too… downstairs room and bathroom were excellent for mum and dad who are in their 80’s the other 3 rooms are tasteful decorated with good quality linen fluffy towels luxury toiletries and fabulous comfy beds
The views from every window are breathtaking go outside an you truly are Riverside with wildlife galore we kept the bird feeders topped up so take some seed.
5* all the way and the snow made our holiday a winter wonderland dream
All I can say is DON’T GO it’s rubbish…. East Lodge is far to brilliant to share with anyone else

The second time we have stayed on the estate (the first time at East Lodge) and it did not disappoint. The most helpful and friendly staff (Beatrice is always fantastic) and the place itself is like something out of a film.

Looking forward to staying again.

We have been returning each year for nineteen years that says it all. There are a few niggles, like the TV being too high on the wall so you get neck ache, but they are negligible. If you want a holiday where you can kick your boots off in the hall and feel totally at home then this is the place to be.

East Lodge is the old gatehouse for the now ruined Dunalastair House, sadly now separated from each other by the extensive hydro-electricity works in the area during the 1930s. It is a lovely property with three decent double bedrooms within the turret, and another in the additional wing. It sleeps eight adults easily and has a good kitchen/diner and lounge, as well as two bathrooms. It is also set within its own secluded grounds next to the river with a great view of Schiehallion beyond. The house is well-equipped and had everything that we needed and is only a short drive from the small store at Tummel Bridge, or to Kinloch Rannoch. Aberfeldy and Pitlochry are around fifteen miles away for more shops, and Perth around forty miles for large supermarkets, all of which do home delivery to East Lodge, a real bonus when you have driven 600 miles to get there as we did. For me, this area of Scotland cannot be beaten. It is so scenic and relaxing with plenty of activities to do, be that walking, sailing, white-water rafting, or visiting historic houses and sites. Queens View is close by, the best view in Scotland, and all easily reached from the A9. We always have a great time at East Lodge and are already looking forward to the next visit.

Absolutely stunning location in an absolute historic gem of a cottage. We stayed for the entire week and every morning I woke up to no noise except that of the beautiful birds singing and the flow of the river. The view from every window was outstanding, from the view of Schiehallon out the front window of the lodge to the birdfeeders from the kitchen, wooded views out the window while washing dishes (deer walking through). The lodge was furnished with everything you could possibly need, kitchen very well stocked, bedding very clean and comfortable, cozy fireplace, blankets when it was a little chillier. Binoculars were provided and we used them for almost every hike we took. Having pamphlets and visitor/nature books were helpful hints of things to do in the area. We visited many hiking trails, the cute town of Kinloch Rannoch, Tummel Bridge, Aberfeldy, Pitlochery, Dunkeld. Cluny gardens is close by and well worth a visit. The history of Dunalistair House/estate is very interesting and would love to know more about the cottages, house, history, and the people that made it so wonderful. We visited the burial site of the clan chief and this was an outstanding view also. Beatrice was very helpful both before checking in and also during our stay, making sure we had what we needed, if we had any questions. We really loved our stay in this quiet/peaceful/comfortable/romantic setting. Thank you for such a wonderful stay and we hope to return again.

Could not have wished for more this is a delightful retreat, just far enough off the beaten track to help you really relax. What an amazing setting. You could not wish for a more idyllic setting if you love the country side. Great views, great walks, fishing on hand perfect for us as we don’t need restaurants or coffee shops to make us happy.
Everything we needed in the house, even the wood Jm had left in the shed for the fire.
We loved our time there and will be sure to return for a third visit

This was our 2nd visit to East Lodge (10 years apart). It was just as exciting arriving to the house through the arch to see it at sundown with the soft lights in the windows :)
The bedrooms were all very nice.
The Kitchen had plenty of room around the table for the 8 of us.

As it was off peak season there wasn’t really anything open around the area (castles, pony trekking etc) but we had to change from another date due to COVID. This was accommodated so well and we were grateful to be able to postpone.

It was great to just explore a few of the local walks at our own time.

East lodge is very special.

We had a lovely 6 day break at East Lodge. We have had many holidays in the area but this was our first visit to the Dunalastair Estate. We were delighted that we booked East Lodge, it really is a special property in a fantastic location.
The property is very well equipped with lots of extras included such logs for the fire, dishwasher tablets, kitchen roll, tin foil, etc which is unusual for many of the properties we have stayed in and makes the initial shop when you arrive so much easier.
We were contacted by Rose on arrival to make sure we had settled in and although we had no need for any assistance during our stay, we have no doubt that any problems would have dealt with promptly and efficiently.
Overall, a perfect place to stay - thoroughly recommended

I first visited dunalastair Estate as a child with my grandparents, and as I a child I thought the place was magical. I took my children when they were young and this time I took my 2 grandchildren, my family absolutely adore this place. The scenery is beautiful and varied, the cottages are immaculate, East Lodge and tuim cottage are perfect for a large family. There are numerous things to do around the area, or you can just simply enjoy the isolation and the sound of the river Tummel flowing past the lodge. We climbed schieallion and scattered some of my father's ashes at the top, he always wanted to climb her one last time, So was quite an emotional stay this time. It goes without saying ,we will be back time and again. There was a lovely welcome letter and coffee and tea on standby. Beatrice has always been a pleasure to deal with. We can't wait to get back.

This was our 5th time staying within the Dunalastair estate and we were not disappointed. East Lodge is amazing the kids were excited to be staying in ‘a castle’. It was so welcoming, Beatrice was ever so friendly and called us to make sure we had arrived ok and were settled. The places was lovely and clean and has everything that you could possibly need. It’s very much home from home. We booked for next year before we had even finished our holiday. Would highly recommend to anyone who is wishing to explore in and around the area.

We had a lovely week at East Lodge. It is an area I know well but return to time and again. Perthshire is beautiful any time of the year but October is a really lovely time to stay. East
Lodge itself is cosy, comfortable and well equipped. On arrival there was milk in the fridge and coffee and biscuits. A nice touch. There is an open fire in the cosy living room and a well stocked log store outside). We spent lots of nights in front of the fire playing games and toasting marshmallows. It is fun to read the old visitors books. Apparently there is a secret passageway at the back door… The kitchen is nice and big so great for large family meals. The kitchen was really well equipped. You will have everything you need to cook. There is a dryer as well as a washing machine too. Bonus! Outside there is an area for building a fire if sitting outside with the stars is your thing. There is no light pollution so the stars are fabulous. The grounds are quite large and you have complete privacy. You are away from everyone and everything. Wonderful! The owners go out of their way to contact you when you arrive to check everything is ok. Another nice personal touch. There is lovely photography gallery worth a visit in the village of Kinloch Rannoch. The village shop will provide you with the essentials. Rannoch station tearoom is fab but book ahead. We enjoy walking and being truly away from it all so this was the perfect holiday for us. We will be back next year!

Beautiful place to relax and chill out, feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere but close enough to Pitlochry and Aberfeldy for shopping etc. The house is very comfy and welcoming, it’s our second visit and will likely return. There was a problem with ticks this year but I think that applies to a lot if places so like midges its just one of the disadvantages of this type if holiday

The east lodge was a very lucky find for my family when we were looking for a week away near Pitlochry. The lodge was spotless on arrival and the guest support was top notch. Pretty remote but didn't cause us a problem as we went prepared. Plenty of wildlife around but be careful of the long grass.
All in all a great place to stay.

Property itself was full of character, if I was being picky I would say that some rooms needed a spring clean but I guess it may have been that the property hadnt been let in a while and the local wildlife have moved in. A couple of things during our stay needed attending to but the response was always helpful and prompt.

It had everything we needed with the open fire a real bonus and something to sit around at night and relax.

Location wise its an ideal base to explore - either around the estate itself or the surrounding villages and countryside.

Overall we had a very welcomed break there.

Everything you could hope for in a holiday cottage.
The boring stuff - the website, the booking process, the pre-arrival info all great; comprehensive and easy which is just what you need. The staff are friendly, easy to contact and efficient.
The East Lodge itself is fantastic and I would happy stay there forever. The place itself lives up to everything you can see on the website and more. Waking up on a sunny clear morning to look over the river, the hills and onto Schiehallion is worth the price in itself. The accommodation is really good - 3 big rooms, one slightly smaller; one a bit trickier to access. Kitchen and Living room all well equipped and spacious (though should say we weren't at max numbers).
Lots to do, though is definitely an emphasis on the outdoor - loads of walks of all kinds, plus a variety of companies offering outdoor pursuits. Also lots of cycling opportunities on and off-road.
It is a bit more remote with Pitlochry 25mins away - though there are some shops closer. We found the food options around pretty good - better than expected TBH. There is a theatre and a cinema as well, though neither were open when we were there.
We loved every minute.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us in East Lodge and it met your needs. Sadly in these strange times not everything was able to re-open as quickly as accommodation but hopefully going forward a lot more things will be available to guests visiting the area.

We have stayed in some lovely cottages in the past, but East Lodge has to be the one that we will remember due to it's stunning location. Waking up to see deer in the garden, and the sun shining on the mountain beyond the river, is a truly special experience and one that we will hold dear.

A very pleasant and comfortable stay. Enjoyed the wild life. A washing up brush and pan scourers would have been useful.

Great to hear you had another enjoyable stay with us in East Lodge, taking in the wildlife. Wash up brushes are not something we put into the cottages but we do supply guest with a sponge scourer.

Lovely lodge in a picturesque location, it was the perfect place for our honeymoon.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and it was just perfect. We arrived to a chilled bottle of champagne which we enjoyed that evening next to the log fire.
Can not fault anything, the lodge and grounds are lovely, the views where Autumn at its best. We will definitely be revisiting.

This is a magical place which is why we have been going back for 15 years. I almost didn’t complete this review because we wanted to keep it as our secret! East Lodge is well appointed and comfortable, a lovely place to return to after a day in the countryside, kick off you boots and light the fire. The staff on the Estate are very helpful and the slightest problem is dealt with immediately. We feel part of the Dunalastair family now.

This was our second visit here with friends and we enjoyed our stay again.
The cottage has all the amenities we required and was clean and comfortable.
The boys were disappointed as the fishing was poor again (zero catch) though they enjoyed the location for casting a line in.
If we were to be really picky, some of the pillows really need changing (some of them are rather thin and a bit lumpy), and the window frames inside need a good clean-they were black in places. But the rest of the house was just lovely and we would definitely recommend it to others who want to get away from it all.

Thank you for your review of your recent stay in East Lodge and am happy to hear that on the whole you were happy. In our end of season check we will replace pillows that need changed. Sorry to hear no success with the fishing, as it gets colder I think it gets harder.

East Lodge is an eccentric, fun and well equipped cottage with bags of history and intreague.
Accommodation is generally excellent and the kitchen well equipped.
The ground floor bedroom felt odd however and not as well done as the rest. It needs a proper wardrobe and chest of drawers and smelled unpleasantly damp. We lived out of our suitcases which wasn't ideal despite the room having two cupboards which we didn't use, concerned they might make clothes smell damp.
The seal between the shower panel and bath didn't sit correctly and was liable to make a puddle on the floor if care wasn't taken.
For a cottage able to accommodate 6, the hot water capacity seemed inadequate and we were perpetually running out of hot water - even if only 3 people showered in a row and others waited until later.
Apart from these points, East Lodge is good fun and comfortable and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

A month in Perthshire was the best vacation of my life. East Lodge was enchanting. Looking up at Schiehallion every day was a spiritual experience. Beatrice, Rose, Carol, and the plumber were very responsive to our needs. The lodge was comfortable, clean, well-equipped and convenient to hiking, castles, restaurants and shopping. Very peaceful with the river flowing by and wildlife coming to visit. Cozy in the evening sitting by the fire.

From the moment we arrived even if it was pitch dark, it was fabulous!

A very well equiped Kitchen, even on the last day we discovered items that we had not seen yet, the livingroom is spacious (we were there with three adults and three dogs) very cosy and lovely with the open fire at night. hallway is very suitable to hang wet clothes and boots. The bedrooms are spacious and airy esspesially the "tower rooms" downstaird middle and top, with fantastic views. Bathrooms have great showers. really your not wanting for anything.

After a great night sleep, we explored with our dogs (fabulous for dogs) before breakfast.

With the river this close walks to the left and the right they had plenty of space to run, one comment, as there are deer around and you bring dogs make sure they had a anti tick treatment.

At breakfast we met Beatrice, to welcome us, it is great to meet and great people and put a face to the name, also a point of contact.

This House (i think its to big to be called a cottage) comes with its own fishing licence so this is ideal for people that love fishing, the river is full of fish and only 50 meters from the front door!

There is so much to do and after 6 days we still had plenty left, I would not have minded at all to stay in the cottage for a few days, loads of walks every where one even more spectacular than the other. if you like to Bungee jump no problem just up the road, and white water rafting brilliant, not on Monday to Wednesday they are for fishermen, we had the added bonus of being with the captain and just two of us, Nellie was knowledgeable and fun, a few rapids and a guided tour very interesting too, beavers are on the river and while we did not see them it is very evident they are there. Kayaking/Canoeing will be a big thing too so for you that like bringing your canoe, there is even a competition course. After that why not go to the Highland Chocolatier, Iain Burnett, for a wee hot beverage with either chocolated or a bacon and cheese Muffin.

There are Saturdays and Sundays Markets too, the Beatrice Potter exhibition is close, Shopping, explore Pitlochry great fish and chips huge portions but pricey, or not to miss The House of Bruar, esspecially all the pies you will not be stuck to feed yourself!! also great fish and chips not to pricey they even have lobster and chips (priced accordingly) great place as they have car parking for dog owners.

Queens view point 5 minutes up the road well maybe ten.... spectacular view point, esspecially with sun down!! take your cameras everewhere, including in the garden, deer, and at the bird feeding station a wide selection of birds, Tits, finches, sparrows, jays, great woodpecker, several red squirrells and I was lucky enough to see a Osprey.

Make sure you take a trip to Rannoch Station, itsremote on Rannoch Moor, the station has a tea room and visitor centre
Take the train to Port William with a stop over and return its very picturesque. However the train from Port William to Mallaig is the Harry Potter train, the viaduct you see in the film when they go to Hogworth will be a fabulous view. this train is called the Jacobite a steam train from West Coast Railway, tickets will have to be booked way in advance we missed out on this but will do next time, its a 84 mile round trip takes you past a list of impressive extremes, Ben Nevis, it visits Britain’s most westerly mainland railway station, Arisaig; passes close by the deepest freshwater loch in Britain, Loch Morar and the shortest river in Britain, River Morar, finally arriving next to the deepest seawater loch in Europe, Loch Nevis! I think a trip of a life time.

I reall think if you want to stay somewhere fun, spectacular, this is the place to go to. If you need a smaller cottage we have seen some of the Dunalistair cottages and they all look fabulous, speak to Beatrice and she wont steer you wrong.

We had a fabulous time, to short and will return, I would like to say thank you to all in McAlistair to share these cottages (and in particular our mini Castle East Lodge) with us, thanks to Beatrice to make us so welcome, and believe me the web site does not do it justice. thanks again from me and Finne (the dog)

This is our second stay at East Lodge and it won't be our last. The setting is idyllic on the river bank with easy walks in both directions and very easy for fishing in between rain showers! The bedrooms are quite big but storage/wardrobe space is a bit on the low side. The kitchen is large and equipment very good, although it would benefit from sharper knives and the squeaky floor is annoying. As a previous review mentions, the time is takes to refill toilets can be frustrating (low pressure) especially when everyone is getting ready to go out! The scenery from every window is very special, had lots of wildlife visiting (and a little deer near the kitchen window early each morning) and saw lots on the river, even an otter. We all had a fab holiday, including the dog who just loved no lead for a week and a massive woodland garden to run about in! We had Tesco deliver all our groceries on arrival so we only needed basics after that and the camp shop at Tummel Valley camp site approx 2 miles away is excellent.

We have just returned from a week staying at East Lodge , weather wasn't perfect but the environment made up for it . Lots of places to visit nearby but enjoyed the privacy of the Lodge with it's own river on the doorstep . The Lodge offered everything we could wish for and more. Plenty of birds visited daily including our friendly Woodpecker. We enjoyed it so much we have already booked to return in August 2019.

East Lodge is one of a group of very nice refurbished cottages in probably one of the most scenic areas of Scotland. It is particularly interesting as it was the very ornate entrance lodge to the now ruined Dunalastair House, and has its own turret and grand archway. The rooms are clean and adequately furnished, and the lounge and kitchen/diner just big enough for eight people together. It has a cosy atmosphere, and enough logs for two fires (more can be bought). The beds are comfortable, and the equipment generally of a decent standard. The only two issues for us that could be improved is that both toilets take a very long time to refill, about fifteen minutes, so difficult with eight people sharing (was also the case in 2002-2004 when we stayed previously so unresolved), also the hot water timer/controller is ancient and could do with an upgrade. Ticks and midges are a significant issue this time of year, particularly as the property is in a woodland setting, however, a lot of work has been done recently to open up the grounds by the removal of trees and overgrown shrubs which helps. There's a great view from East Lodge over the river to Schiehallion now. East Lodge is a short drive from Kinloch Rannoch and Tummel Bridge with small village stores. Pitlochry and Aberfeldy are further away, but have better shopping facilities. It's very easy to access the A9 from this area, and there's plenty to do locally. It's a great place to base yourself. All of the Dunalastair cottages have fishing passes and access to a tennis court which is a bonus, and any issues during your stay are dealt with efficiently. You get a visit on arrival day to check that all is OK. I particularly enjoyed the river-side walks from East Lodge, and it is a lovely old building in a very private setting. Overall, its a nice cottage to stay in, full of character, and the Dunalastair cottages in general are worth seriously considering if staying in this lovely part of Perthshire.

Like staying in a private mini-castle, but much more comfortable -- fully equipped kitchen with induction range and dishwasher, large bedrooms, comfy couches. Views across the river Tummel (50 yards from the front door) to Schiehallion, roses and honeysuckle growing right outside, a fire pit (great for toasting marshmallows), walking trail along the riverside (with blueberries). Manager very friendly and helpful.

A little remote -- groceries and a couple of eateries in Kinloch Rannoch (15-minute drive), but the nearest sizeable towns are half an hour away -- we particularly liked Aberfeldy. There's lots of hiking -- Tay Forest Park, Schiehallion, the Black Wood of Rannoch, Glen Lyon, Glen Tilt, the Birks o' Aberfeldy, and Killiecrankie are all within half an hour's drive, as are several castles and gardens; also fishing, boating, white-water rafting, etc.

Thrilled to find East Lodge, a gem of a place. Warm, comfortable and reasonably priced. The Country Store in Kinloch Rannoch provided our food order that Beatrice very kindly collected and had put away. The local bacon was divine. Quiet area with wonderful wildlife, red squirrels, deer and golden eagles. Rannoch Station for afternoon tea was delicious and a very beautiful special place. We plan to return to East Lodge for another relaxing break. Thank you for all your warm welcome and hospitality.

East Lodge is a dog friendly rather than high-spec holiday cottage. Although delightful and full of character it would benefit from some investment in the lounge furniture and a make-over of the main bathroom. The kitchen and downstairs shower room were lovely.

There were a few issues with appliances but these were rectified very promptly and Beatrice was delightful.

We were disappointed with the absence of any Christmas decorations especially as we stayed the week before Christmas and had paid a premium rate accordingly. This would have made an enjoyable stay even better.

Just a final recommendation, when there is snow on the ground it would be beneficial to mark the parking area with sticks as we managed to ground our car on the stone markers which were obviously hidden. Luckily it was a hire car and no visible damage done!

I am happy you enjoyed your stay in East Lodge. The upstairs bathroom we are planning to make some changes this year to improve it. And we will look at the parking area and try to make it safer in wintry conditions. With regards to Christmas decorations, we have had folks in the past who have wanted to get away from the idea of Christmas, in future with any bookings we will ask the guests prior to arrival.

We had a nice short stay at East Lodge. Will be back.

For the third year in a row we stayed a short week at East Lodge with friends, during the deer stalking season. The house is located on a very nice location next to the river. The house has enough space, and is equipped well.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The cottage is warm, comfortable and has plenty of room to relax. It is well equipped for all your needs and we were provided with plenty of logs to keep the fire burning. The setting is very beautiful with an outlook to Schiehallion. We were a bit disappointed in the fishing as they weren't biting this week but that gives us reason to go back and try again.

Happy to hear you enjoyed your stay in East Lodge here on Dunalastair. Soaking up the views of Schiehallion on your doorstep for the week. Sorry to hear that the fish did not accommodate you but maybe next time they will.

I'd give it 95 out of 100

I'm almost reluctant to review East Lodge as we feel it's our special place. We have been returning year after year and we have never been disappointed. Fishing, wonderful walks and shortish drives to Pitlochry and Aberfeldy should you feel in need of retail therapy. The perfect place to relax in wonderful scenery.

An great base for our re-union group's diverse activities of cultural visits, walking and fishing although there seems to be some attempt to inhibit fishing along the river bank due to inaccessibility through (unchecked / encouraged) overgrowth. Plenty of huge salmon running but advised against in the literature. Seven adult males found traditional self catering cramped, cookingwise. The sitting room was excellent for our post dinner, whisky tasting(?) discussions etc - cosy and comfortable without the need for fires even though the weather was generally poor. The stairs to the top twin bedroom are dangerous, per se, not just to young or informed - of the group of seven I was probably most active and able but still struggled, especially first time in stocking feet. Under normal traffic conditions the narrow road access would not pose a problem but there are current logging operations in most areas and extreme care is needed. As an aside I have spent 18years annually searching properties that catered for 7 or 8 in separate beds as even "sleeps 12" means sometimes only 6. I am suggesting now to agents that they include a criteria of "number of beds" irrespective of type. Booking was friendly and easy and we had a good welcome visit after arrival. All in all good value for money. The score automatically inserted above does not reflect the 80/100 that I would have given (3x100 + 3x75 divide by 600) but I can not change it - perhaps the key word identification needs reviewing or allow self entry of score.

It was nice to meet with you all on my visit and I am happy to hear that your annual reunion was a success and that you on the whole enjoyed your stay with us in East Lodge. East Lodge, being a listed building, building works can be tricky and we can't unfortunately change the stairs to the tower room. We would not advise being in stocking soles only when going up and down these. It is interesting to hear of your sightings of the salmon in the river, we will certainly take on board your point regarding the undergrowth along the river and will look at ways to try to improve the access.

This well-equipped house is magical on the outside, and has all you need on the inside. Riverfront location adds charm - wonderful places to picnic and stroll just outside the door. Cosy living room. Comfortable beds. Very well-furnished kitchen. Altogether makes for a wonderful getaway.

We had another gorgeous stay at Dunalastair Estate. This was our second stay at East Lodge. It is excellent to share with friends and family, and the new kitchen and bathroom (underfloor heating - ace) are great. The Old Post Office last year was also a gorgeous break, with fabulous views.

We always feel so well looked after with lovely fresh bedding and towels and a lovely welcome tray and note. Wood and coal are easy to order from Paul if we need extra, and delivered to the door. We all have busy working lives, and our time at Dunalastair is a genuine break away from it all; big sky and plenty of space and peace.

Cosy nights with the fire and time to switch off, watch television and chat are a real treat.

We have stayed here many times but last year we were absolutely freezing. We emailed on our return and gave many pointers on how the heat could be improved. This year the radiator we pointed out as faulty was either replaced or fixed. The cottage had been heated for days before we arrived and there was extra electric heaters. It is great service when you are listened to and we all appreciated it. Another great holiday in an amazing place.
