This large Victorian farmhouse has 7 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. It has beautiful views towards Machrins Bay. Located next to the golf course, airstrip and Machrins beach on the western side of the island. It has WIFI.

We had a great stay at Machrin's House which was in a perfect location to explore the island and watch the sunset each evening. The only issue we had was with the Wi-Fi as this was very slow with so many individuals using it, but there was plenty to keep us occupied it wasn't a big issue!
We can't wait to come back again!

Fantastic location and some great weather for the time of year..sadly it’s let down on basic things like no outdoor furniture at all, some half decent knives etc but overall another great time on Colonsay

Stayed here to celebrate our Ruby wedding with friends and family. It was a wonderful space for three generations. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived. The rooms looked lovely and everyone happy with their allotted rooms.
The weather was not kind but it didn’t matter as we had plenty of coal and a warm fire plus games galore!

Lovely house for a large family. Dishwasher didn’t work very well but I’m sure that will be sorted now. I hope to be back.

We've been coming to Colonsay with children or many years (30+!). This was now in an extended family with tiny grandchildren. Machrins is the perfect house for beaches, walks, visits to the Hotel and Pantry and just chilling out in a larger group in the garden. We were probably the luckiest we've ever been with the weather - 2 weeks of unbroken sunshine. But even without that it would have been a magical holiday. Thanks. Tim

Had been really looking forward to staying here and was very disappointed. The place needs a really good clean. Damp is pouring down the walls. Curtains are mouldy from the damp. The place is freezing - they charge extra for heating. On using the glass coffee cafetière, it exploded - so must have been cracked. We were then charged for a replacement !!! Other crockery was cracked, which they did remove. One of the lavatory seats was split and cracked - which they did replace. We were only able to use one of the showers for all of us. One of the bathrooms has an old claw foot bath- which is totally impractical. One of the bathrooms was out of service due to a terrible smell - drains and damp. The dining room smelt terrible too. They don’t tell you it is a working farm, so you are surrounded by cattle. The drive is strewn with nails, luckily I saw them all and picked them up, as dealing with a puncture on this remote island would have been challenging. The old farm buildings in front of the house are falling down. The corrugated iron roof rattled all night in the wind. The skylight windows were covered in bird poo and moss, as if they have never been cleaned. The bed heads were not attached to the beds, the plugs for the bedside lights were not plugged in and as the sockets were behind heavy pieces of furniture, it required 3 of us to move the furniture and plug them in. The beds weren’t made up - but apparently that is what they do now to save laundry. Definitely not 5 star. For the cost, one expects much more. The midges were terrible - but that is nothing to do with the house…
Better off staying in the hotel for a couple of nights.

We had a fantastic time based at Machrins. Lovely house and garden, kitchen and en-suite bathroom need a revamp. the rest of the rooms are good. The location gives you easy access round the whole island.

Spacious traditional farmhouse, with a good sized garden and great location. However, badly needs refurbished and improved with only one of the bedrooms up to the standard you’d expect for the price. The house was cold and noticeably damp even in summer (mold in some of the bedrooms and clothes became damp even hanging in the wardrobes), and struggled to provide enough hot water for showers even with the immersion heaters on. It could also have done with a more thorough clean, particularly the bathrooms. Overall, disappointing, especially compared with Balerominmhor which was of a much higher standard for a similar price.

Lovely, comfortable house, good bedding and furnishings. Kitchen well equipped. However it’s a bit of a squeeze for 12 adults in the kitchen. Ideally should have an additional shower on the first floor, or at least a shower screen. Top floor bedroom would benefit from more sockets or an extension lead, and a light near the mirror.
Place mats or trivets would be useful for hot things on the dining table.

Machrins house is perfectly located within walking distance to the golf course and a beautiful beach. Very comfortable and spacious house with plenty of hot water and effective drying rails in bathrooms - so important on the west coast. On arrival, very clean house and our shopping order was waiting for us in the house! Brilliant house for 2/3 families.

This place is amazing - great location, great island. Lovely house. Thank you. We will be back.
However. It's clearly silly that
1. There are no sharp knives.
2. There is no BBQ
3. You can't sit 14 for dinner. There are two tables, both big, but neither sit 14.
4. Kitchen surface is broken and cracked everywhere. A shame, it looks a bit shabby.

Also, a clean does not come as standard half way through a two week stay, so make sure you ask especially for it. (They do change sheets though).

Thank you for a memorable stay

A great location close to one of the best beaches on the island. Machrins is comfortable for adults and wonderful for children who love to explore its nooks and crannies. There is also a good sized garden with a large flat grassed area ideal for games.

This was our third time at Machrins. Our group comprised 7 adults and 5 children aged under 5. The size of the house meant we never felt crowded. We use the dining room as a playroom and eat in the kitchen. The garden has always been thankfully free of sheep poo, so our young children have had a great time rolling on the grass and down the slopes.

Lovely big house , very comfortable, well appointed. We had 13 and managed to squeeze round the kitchen table all together rather than having some in kitchen and some in dining room. Lots of larder space and nice big fridge and freezer, fridge looks a bit tired but worked perfectly well. Plentiful hot water and powerful showers from water pumps - slightly too powerful if anything. This is a great place and I'd book again.

I have been visiting Colonsay for many years .
I can't get there enough.
Peacefully located over two and a half hours from Oban which of course adds to its isolation.
Houses on the island are usually in stunning locations
Sizes to suit all
Friendly kind locals and a pub that is comfortable and delicious food
Bicycles for hire ( delivered if wanted) from Archie
Fresh fish from Bill

Loads of space in this family friendly house. Great, quiet location. Kitchen quite tight for 14 but there is a dining room. A boot room would be good for wellies, wet weather gear and fishing rods etc but the hall is big enough for all that sort of clobber. Management staff bent over backwards for us. Fantastic holiday.

perhaps consideration could be given to including electricity within the price and providing a bag of coal on arrival.
There is a fair bit of noise from the water tank at the top floor - is it possible to put some sound insulation in?

Beds are comfortable, lovely pillows and duvets. Crockery and cutlery well stocked.

We arrived to find the cleaners still in and were told it would be an hour before access. Thankfully this wasn't the case, waiting about 15-20 mins. I guess some people leave a complete mess (we don't) and I can understand that people don't want to pay electricity to clean the place up.

Downstairs bedroom off the kitchen is still a bit damp.

Generally excellent. Water never quite hot enough even with only six of us. Biggest criticism is the environment around the house. The broken down sheds are filled with all sorts of discarded stuff which must encourage vermin. Otherwise a great house and a really enjoyable stay. The sunny weather helped.

We were a party of 4 people staying at the Machrins farmhouse on Colonsay. The property is an impressive large farmhouse in a beautiful spot and has the potential to be wonderful.
Our experience was disappointing - the house was very cold- the aga heating wasn't working properly which resulted in the showers turning intermittently hot and cold and one morning completely cold. The house was uncomfortably cold and the lack of hot water for showering was a problem. The fridge smelled and wasn't clean. We had the feeling that the house had been empty over the winter and that it hasn't been properly aired or made comfortably warm for our stay which was a pity because it is a beautiful property we would have loved it if there hadn't been the problem of cold and lack of hot water for showering.

Impressive facilities in spacious accommodation; well kitted out and well presented - a comfy place to relax and recharge the batteries.

Some clarity needed on use of heating/hot water - but other than that no complaints on facilities or accommodation.

Did not use the ground floor bedroom behind the kitchen - which if had to be used might be seen as a disappointment; I would highlight this to large groups to manage expectations.

Looking forward to returning as soon as we can.

We have been visiting Colonsay since 1986 but this was our first time in Machrins. Lots of space for three couples and two toddlers, and the large garden was free of sheep poo, which was great. Good bathroom facilities, but we wondered whether anyone ever used the huge, old bath in one of the rooms which would surely take up a whole tank of water.
Complicated electrics for hot water, etc., which we are not sure we really worked out.
We used the hob rather than the Rayburn because of the toddlers.
We had a lovely time and have booked for next year.

We made our booking in late October and were pleased to have secured this great house on Colonsay. The interaction with the owners was great with plenty of information promptly provided as well as additional helpful information. We found the house, clean, well presented with plenty of space, bathrooms and loads of lovely bedding and blankets for the cold nights. The house has recently been refurbished to be a comfortable family let,. We stayed there with 4 families (8 adults and 5 children between us) and there was plenty of space for all. The island itself is lovely and despite some rough weather we were able to get out most days and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The house represents great value for money and I would highly recommend it.

Old farmhouse with quirky furnishings but very comfortable and warm. Plenty of room although kitchen doesn't seat more than 12 at the table. There is a large separate dining room however. Great location, distant sea views to the west. Ahndy for pub, shop and gold course.
