For a comfortable stay on Colonsay we would recommend Colonsay House apartments. Great location with plenty of options to walk from house. Lovely gardens and tasty cakes in the tea shop. Great birdwatching with coast, cliffs, woods, heath and moor with Sea Eagle, Golden Eagle, Corncrake and Hen Harrier on your doorstep. Lovely beach. Only thing lacking was a sea view!

The Nursery Appartment was perfect for our stay on Colonsay. Beautifully decorated, comfortable and had everything we needed. Lovely view of the gardens. Perfectly positioned to walk to Kiloran Beach, the sea cliffs and Balnahard bay. We would definitely stay again.

Just a 20 minutes walk to beautiful Kiloran Bay. The woodlands are at the back of the house. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

The apartment had an excellent blend of the traditional and modern. Kitchen and bathroom were contemporary, but the traditional furnishings of the rest of the apartment, all in perfect condition, made the place so homely and welcoming. Everything was fresh and clean. The starter items of coffee, etc. were an added touch. There was nothing to fault
Required information was clearly given in a folder and the lack of notices which festoon many a self-caterging establishment was a welcome feature. It made the place seem more like home.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The apartment was suoer cosy. Kitchen well equipped allowing us to cook fir ourselves although the local Pantry restaurant was very tempting.

We loved our stay at Nursery Apartment. It was comfortable and tastefully furnished with a wonderful view of the garden, where there was constant birdsong and the occasional bunny! The location of the house is fantastic as you could hear the waves crashing on the peerless beach at Kiloran Bay.

This was an average apartment for the price paid. The location is good, however, especially for Kiloran bay. The kitchen is tiny but has plenty of cupboard space for food and is well equipped. The bed is comfortable but is only a double with a double duvet. A king sized duvet would be much better as would decent sized towels.

A beautiful location for a two weeks holiday. Just a short 15 min walk to Kiloran Bay and the beach. The woodlands are around the house and perfect for a short walk in the morning and evening or on a rainy day.
Transport service from and to the pier to the house for a foot passenger available.
It has been my third stay at the house and I am coming for over 25 years to Colonsay.

We were on Colonsay for the folk festival. Nursery Flats was a short drive from the music venue which was not a problem. The kitchen had all that we needed. Bed was comfortable. Staff in the cafe were friendly and welcoming.

We loved staying at the Nursery. The location was ideal - and just 15-20’ walk from a gorgeous beach. We found the place easily, and it was easy to get to and from for everywhere on the island (we had a car; bikes would also be good). The apartment was mostly well-equipped (with some lovely artwork on the walls), and with great views over the gardens.
We would certainly choose to stay there again.

We stayed in Nursery mostly because prices of other properties on Colonsay have just got too high. Even that hardly compares favourably with the £500 per week we paid for a very nice large two bedroom bungalow on Tiree - in June.
However, if/when we return to Colonsay we would stay in Nursery again. We were very comfortable and enjoyed the sunny aspect and the view.
We filled in all the paper requests for reviews left in the flat and if you read them you will find we had suggestions to improve the kitchen equipment

A very quiet, comfortable base for exploring the delights of Colonsay. Well located,for local walks and a delightful beach and we could feel independent without being isolated. Nursery Apartment had all we needed and the kitchen unusually had plenty of storage space for provisions, but posed a bit of a challenge for more than one person to work in simultaneously.
Pleased that there was an undercover bicycle store and easy car parking.

Delightful apartment in the wonderful country house overlooking gardens and woodland stuffed with exotic trees and plants. felt very lucky to be able to walk around the woods. Only 5 mins away there is the magnificent Kiloran Bay.
Customer service was excellent thank you. Also my apartment had the benefit of underfloor heating in the bathroom! So pleased I paid for the extra heating.

A well equipped home from home for a relaxing break in a tranquil setting. Some thought and care has gone into furnishings and design of the apartment, which makes for an enjoyable stay. The view over the garden added to the experience. It is some way from the facilities/ shop on the island, so some planning needed if without a car but it is perfectly feasible and added to the sense of island living.Very friendly staff and the garden cafe is excellent. Don’t miss Kiloran Bay and the walk to Oransay.

Overall, thoroughly recommended accommodation on an unforgettable island.

The Nursery apartment is spacious and value for money if you compare it with the tiny hotel rooms on the touristy mainland. The pick up service, for environment friendly travelling foot passengers from the ferry terminal, was convenient. The use of electric cars by Colonsay Holidays is great.

Lovely cosy apartment. Comfortable bed. Really nice lounge to relax in. Beautiful views across the garden to the woodlands beyond which were lovely to explore. Colonsay is wonderful island to enjoy. We were there at the Food & Drink festival and so were able to take part in several of the events which were all very well run. We had some unfortunate ferry cancellations and the team were very good to communicate with and were able to put us up for an additional couple of days. We found Nora a delight to deal with.

The Nursery Apartment on the Colonsay Estate suited our requirements very well indeed, with its lovely view out over the garden. It would not be an ideal location without a car but with the car we were able to do a number of short walks over the island, visiting some wonderful beaches, one very close to the Estate.

We loved our time at Nursery. Unfortunately the place was very grubby when we arrived. All the cutlery, plates, pans and kitchen needed a thorough clean before we could use them. There was a dirty water slick under the chopping boards in the kitchen, one of the shelves in the kitchen cupboard was filthy and every handle was sticky leading us to believe the cupboards had not been cleaned since the previous inhabitants left. The table was sticky and there were crumbs and food on the sofa and floor. We were also kindly provided with a high chair which seemed to have been brought out of a shed and was crusted in old food and the straps were mouldy. It was totally unusable which caused us great inconvenience having to feed our 9 month old son without a chair. A thorough clean would make the place much better. We also weren’t sure what the situation was with hot water as the instructions weren’t clear. The immersion heater was on when we got to the property so we weren’t sure if it needed to be on for there to be hot water or if it was just for emergencies when the hot water runs out. The instructions could be improved on that point.

Tranquil stay in wonderful wider grounds. Great location for walking to Kiloran beach. Apartment itself very tired and in need of a refurb - carpet, interior, furniture, decor dated and aged, proper shower needs fitting, some chairs need removing, better cutlery, welcome pack, etc. Better signage required upon arrival for car parking. This is a lovely place, with some very quaint and appealing features and a good location for both north and south of the island. However, it is rather tired, the hot water and bath/shower need a serious overall and the kitchen appliances are all rather tired. Shame, as with a little TLC, this place could be wonderful. At present, it is somewhat over-priced for what it is.

Beautiful week weatherwise. Accommodation fine but still needed the coalfire! Never met or saw anybody from the property which seems quite impersonal. Given customers pay a lot to be there it seems churlish that they cannot walk round the grounds or make use of the lawn - the owners cannot have it both ways!

We stayed in the Nursery apartment at Colonsay house - our first visit to the island. The apartment was delightful - tasteful and totally in keeping with the grandeur of the house whilst being just cosy and homely at the same time - a great place to stay -lovely open fire that kept us toasty in the evening and a very comfortable bed. Colonsay itself is beautiful indeed and I've no doubt we will return, hopefully in the not too distant future and would definitely be happy to re-book in this apartment.

Our stay was in January and the apartment had obviously not been occupied for a while so we struggled to get it warm but there were plenty of blankets to keep us warm at night. Janos and Norah who were looking after the apartments were very helpful and enthusiastic and could not have done more to make our stay enjoyable. The gardens at the house are lovely and the location is superb a short walk from one of the best beaches on the island and a 15 minute cycle ride from Scalasaig. All of the furniture and fittings are in keeping with the tradition of the house and a few more repairs (e.g. so that chairs did not fall apart when you try to sit on them) would make the experience even better - or at least more consistent with the flat rental tariff. Overall staying at the apartments is a great chance to get away from it all and is highly recommended.

Entered to property by beautiful surroundings and the view over the gardens from our apartment was lovely. We had everything that we needed . Apartment itself was clean and very comfortable however felt our particular one felt a little unloved. Furniture and decor was a mish mash of styles and colours giving it a bit of a junk room feel.. just my opinion
Overall we had a lovely stay at Colonsay House and would definitely recommend it as a great place to stay in a beautiful location . Thank - you

Our second stay on Colonsay but first at the Colonsay House Apartments. Nursery Apartment is quirky, homely and great value for money. The kitchen may be small but it has an amazing array of equipment, crockery, cutlery etc. Everything we needed was there, and all spotlessly clean. The apartment is accessed from a stairway just off a courtyard. We enjoyed the atmosphere of staying in the grounds of a beautiful country house. Everyone we came in contact with, including the owner, was charming and helpful. There are larger apartments available here, but for two people looking for a reasonably priced week in splendid surroundings on a beautiful, peaceful island, Nursery apartment is ideal. The acid test is always the question “would we go back?”
And the answer is an emphatic “yes!”

We spent a long weekend in the Colonsay Apt’s. We found the Nursery Apt very adequate, though not really to our tastes. The furniture is a bit mismatched, and the prints on the walls very dated. The kitchen was small, though did have everything we required. Large bedroom, comfy bed. Large bathroom, I would have liked a shower curtain for the hand held shower over the bath, would have kept the floor dry!
A plus point for Colonsay House is the proximity to the lovely beach at Kiloran Bay, easy to walk or cycle.
The Apartments have put Corona Virus precautions in place, with Antibacterial gel at the entrance and in the Apt.
We did enjoy our stay, very much helped by the dry and sunny weather. It was also pleasant to sit in the gardens for a pre dinner G&T.
We visited the Colonsay Hotel, where we had a fantastic evening meal.

Due to Covid-19, our original booking in the Bunkhouse was unavailable so we were offered the Nursery apartment in Colonsay House as an alternative. This was a delightful and comfortable suite of rooms overlooking the stunning gardens for which the house is well known for. We appreciated the very high standards of cleanliness and had a comfortable stay, made even more enjoyable by the friendly, courteous and knowledgeable staff.
Our only complaint was the dripping tap in the bathroom which, as a light sleeper, kept me awake at night. However, on reporting this, the staff have agreed to look into it straight away so hopefully this won’t be an issue for future guests!
Thank you Colonsay Cottages- the Nursery Apartment was a wonderful location from which to base our few days exploring the beautiful and peaceful island, we had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay.

The Nursery Apartment in Colonsay House. A great place to stay for a ‘get away from it all’ holiday for two!
This bijou one bedroom apartment has everything you need. A cozy living room with lovely view of marvellous garden.
Likewise the bedroom with very comfortable double bed and an adequate kitchen with all necessities.
The only problem was the lovely old Victorian bath and shower. Due to our aged bones we could not sit in the bath to shower.

The Nursery Apartment at Colonsay House provided a very comfortable base for my short break on the island. The bed was wonderfully comfortable, the bathroom a good size and the living room very welcoming with a fire all ready made up on my arrival.
The kitchen is very compact but is very well equipped. The apartment has great views of the magnificent trees and beautiful gardens. It provided a lovely quiet place.

The truth is you never know what to expect when you go anywhere new on holiday. There had been newspaper reports about the locals not being happy about an influx of tourists. I would say our expectations were more than matched in terms of hospitality, accomodation and location though the weather was of typical Hebridean nature. We took a small gas fired bar-b-q for the evenings and picniced on the beach every lunch and evening. Colonsay is a very quiet island. Each meal we had the beaches to ourselves (except for the Gannets, Oyster Catchers, Shags, Kittiwakes, all sorts of geese, sheep eating seaweed, an occasional herd of cattle, a pair of Golden Eagles and many other birds I've never seen before). Oransay, an RSPB island sanctuary at the soutrhern tip is accessed by walking across 1 mile of tidal waters. It's a beautiful place with lots of beaches and birds.

There are notices about COVID-19 everywhere asking you to sanitise your hands before opening a gate and after you had closed it. Many of the local shops like art galleries were shut. There wasn't any food or drinks on the ferry to and from the island but what we did find was a great fishmonger in Oban before we caught the ferry and bought scallops, prawns, sea bass and lemon sole for our bar-b-q's. We also met plenty of locals asking us to come back.

The accomodation was perfectly located with great views over Colonsay House gardens. We visited the gardens one day. I imagine it was spectacular many moons ago but it needs some TLC now. However, for just £2.50 its well worth the entry price and there is a cafe which sold delicious lemon drizzle cake. There was an issue with the internet but that was quickly resolved.TBH we didn't spend much time in the flat. We were out all day, walked the island from top to bottom. Kiloran Bay is spectacular but we think a better beach was a hidden gem in the North East corner of the island which, though it meant a 6 mile round walk to get there was definitely worth the effort for the beautiful sands, location and amazing birdlife. There's something bewitching about watching the aerobatics of diving gannets in clear blue seas.

You'll love the location, the helpful staff, the handy boot rack. Cooking in the kitchen is so much handier than eating out and the shop will deliver groceries ready for you. Colonsay is a wonder and this is a peaceful base from which to explore the House Gardens, Kiloran and Balnahard, laze about or scramble Canan Eoin. Further afield is just as lovely.

Very much enjoyed the stay in the Nursery Apartment. It was very clean and had everything we needed, whilst maintaining the charm of a Georgian period residence. The open fire was delightful: even though we were fortunate enough with the weather not to really need it we still indulged ourselves and made use of the available coal. The location was great for walks at the north end of the island, and we used the car to reach the southern end and to go to the hotel and pantry for some meals. Stunning beaches and coastline, constant noise from the bird life but other humans much less noticeable!

Two suggestions we would make would be shower curtain and wall mounted shower above the bath, and someone on the island to offer guided bird spotting walks - the bird life was amazing, and whilst photography and access to the internet were helpful aids, we would definitely had benefitted from access to a knowledgeable walking companion.

Over the past 40 years we have enjoyed several magical holidays with family and friends on Colonsay in cottages and The Colonsay hotel
This winter visit was a Golden Wedding present from our family..
We were informed that there was a problem with the heating in The Nursery and would we mind moving to Drumclach. On arrival it was clear that Drumclach had been empty prior to our arrival. It was so very cold despite having heaters on at max over night.
On investigation we found that Nursary was available and there was nothing wrong with the heating. The move was obviously for administrator's convenience.
It was agreed that we could move down on day 2
We very much enjoyed bike rides, meeting local people, and beach walks.
There was no ferry on our day of departure and we had to stay another 2 nights. Despite the fact that our fee for 5 nights had been the same as a week, and we were paying for all electricity used, we were required to pay extra for the additional stay.
We felt disappointed and unwelcome.
Please don't let that beautiful island loose it's magic!

This apartment was booked as the Colonsay hotel was full. Although a short drive away from the hotel, it formed part of Colonsay House and therefore it is an attractive venue, very peaceful with a beautiful view into the Gardens which are open from time to time. The apartment is on the first floor and is a marvellous, cosy and well equipped place for a couple to spend a few days in. I think we could have lit a coal fire but in August felt it wasn't needed. My only observation to the office on departure was that the bed mattress and duvet were not comfortable and was told that having received a similar comment, that they would shortly upgrade that which was helpful to hear. You can walk to the nearby fantastic Kiloran Bay where I swam although if you have bikes or your car, you can also use. You pay your electricity on departure which for our 3 days amounted to £7.50! We ate at the hotel for 2 nights, self catering for the other so there's great flexibility. The Gardens there are somewhat overgrown but then there is a lot to manage in a very lush area. All very charming.

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay in the Nursery Apartment. There aren't many places to stay for 2 people on Colonsay so we were glad that it was available. It's equipped with everything you might need, is comfortable and has lovely views over Colonsay House Gardens. The living room, bedroom and bathroom are very nice and spacious, but the kitchen is small, fine for one person cooking but bit of a squeeze for two! There's good free wifi and also a TV with Sky which is nice. There's plenty of easy parking at Colonsay House, and you can use the launderette for free, as well as sit on the benches in the courtyard. The only thing is that there's no private outdoor space to have a BBQ or anything, but of course there's plenty of space on the island :) Overall really enjoyed our holiday and would come back.

After coming to Colonsay every year my whole life (66 years) this was the first time I’d stayed at Colonsay House. Nursery Apartment is on the first floor overlooking the lovely gardens and is ideal for a couple, of any age. It is a comfortable, tasteful ‘home from home’ with everything you could wish for. Our children and their families stayed across the landing in Pigs Paradise and it was the perfect arrangement for a family holiday together. I will be recommending a stay at Colonsay House to all our friends who have been hearing me waxing lyrical about my beautiful family island home and we look forward to other family holidays there as our family grows in years to come. This was my sons first visit to a Scottish Island and he loved it.

The Food and Drink Festival was on while we were there and during the course of the week we cooked Italian Food, made chocolates, foraged for and cooked seaweed, went to gin and whisky tasting evenings - all presented by experts in their field. We also went on organised walks by the RSPB, and local experts who explained the fauna, flora history, geography and culture of the Island.

Our accommodation was perfect for our requirements comfortable and homely and fully equipped for our needs.

Although the cottage would of been lovely, had we had a car, we had a horrible time getting there. After 7 hours of travel we arrived in the dark and pouring rain.. We walked up to the main hotel only to be told that the nursery apartment was 3 miles away and they had no transportation to get you there and quite frankly they really didn't seem to care and I found them a bit rude. . We got a ride with a kind sole searching our way to find the place, they didn't even give us a map they only quickly showed us on a map that was hanging in the hallway. Thank goodness they had some small coffee packages in the room otherwise for our morning coffee as there wasn't a thing to be had. The little cafe attached to the place only opens 2 days a week for an hour or so. I had emailed them several and I mean several times asking that they not put us out in the middle of nowhere, guess what, we were out in the middle of absolutely nowhere. We decided right then and there we weren't going to stay for our full time period and left. Thank goodness it was one of the days the ferry came, it doesn't come every day. The apartment was comfortable, the dining room chairs hard as rock and area is just beautiful. Just don't go without some sort of vehicle. I wish they would of told us I would of gladly rented one in Oban, they don't rent them on the island or at least rent golf carts anything. It wasn't just us who were stranded after that long travelling day either. There was a bunch of grumpy customers.

We had never been to Colonsay and I had been looking forward to it for so many years and this whole thing just spoiled it for us.

We were very pleasantly surprised, particularly by the little extra touches like the fire being laid ready to light and with a full coal scuttle (and how nice it is for the coal, kindling etc all to be included in the price rather than as optional extras) and the hot water was on ready. The bed was really comfortable with a very good quality mattress and plenty of pillows. We would happily stay here again.

This was our second stay at Colonsay Estate. The Nursery Apartment is cosy, quiet and an ideal base for walking holidays on Colonsay. People at the Estate office always happy to help and to provide information. My personal highlight: relaxing in front of a crackling coal fire after a long walk.

We have stayed in this flat for many years. We like it but the bed is getting a bit tired. We appreciate not having to bring bedding and towels. This year both coal and kindling were readily available. We are already booked for next year. That says it all !
