This is a beautiful island. I have visited many times before and will continue to do so. I am concerned that the standard of accommodation and the services is available on the island do not justify the very high cost of a holiday. I’m sure that the poor ferry service deters visitors and there is no doubt that the island was quiet during our stay.
I feel that on occasions the islanders are resentful of visitors as I feel that they must come to recognise that their future depends on the tourist industry however sad this may be.

Scalasaig was the perfect location for an amazing family holiday for May half term. Walking distance to the pub, the shop, the pantry, smokehouse, gallery, and some good short walks from the house, this is the perfect base for a holiday with children needing shorter outings, and on rainy days. The house was really well kitted out and stood up brilliantly to 4 adults, 5 children and 2 dogs, along with endless meals, rounds of laundry, wet dogs and hyperactive toddlers.

We had a great week at Scalasaig Farmhouse. It is ideally set up for a large group. The kitchen is well equipped and the garden is a sun trap. There is plenty of hot water for long baths and on our one day of poor weather the heating kicked in quickly and ensured that we were all cozy. The location of the farmhouse means that most things on the island are within walking distance and it is a bonus to be close to the Colonsay Hotel for dinner or drinks.

Our second time in Scalasaig Farmhouse. It’s a comfortable property with good bedroom/ bathroom arrangements, and a pleasant sheltered garden for enjoying the sun. The kitchen is well appointed but could have done with an additional chopping board, mixing bowls and some flutes.
A good location for getting about Colonsay.

This was our second week in Colonsay having stayed at Pondside for a week, this is a much larger house and offers ample and comfortable space for 2 families or a large family and dog such as ours who want a lot of space. The farmhouse is well equipped and walking distance to the hotel / pub and the village centre with plenty of trails on your doorstep. Again a very cosy house, we had sheep on the lawn the entire time we stayed which was nice, great showers and very well equipped kitchen.

Once again cannot fault the staff at Colonsay Holidays, always on hand to help and exellent service, well done.

This house is in a great location near to the hotel and not far from the ferry port. It could be really lovely and is a decent size for up to 8 people. Unfortunately however in my opinion it has not been well maintained and we had issues with cleanliness finding previous guests clothes under the bed, hair on a bed sheet, grease on the baking trays and no mattress toppers on the beds which I find very unhygienic. What was even more challenging however was the mould in the ensuite bathrooms; on the ceilings, window frame and blind which exacerbated our asthma and meant we needed to leave the property early as we were told it couldn't be dealt with. When you charge the luxury prices that Colonsay Holidays do, then you need to deliver on both service and comfort levels and unfortunately this didn't happen. They also sent an additional bill for heating and hot water of £80 for only 5 days stay. We didn't turn on either nor use the Rayburn so their system must be very inefficient.

We had a great week at Scalasaig farmhouse. It is close to the only hotel and bar and other amenities in the main village on Colonsay. I loved the Raeburn and the fact that there was lots of hot water and good pressure in the showers, even though there were 8 of us! The fridge was too small for 8 adults unfortunately and the sheep were constantly in the garden in spite of us keeping the gates shut as instructed and chasing them out.

The title says it all! Scalasaig Farmhouse is peacefully located at the end of a long access drive, yet it has easy access to the pier, the hotel, the general store, post office, brewery and gift shops. It is spacious and extremely well equipped and comfortable and has a good sized garden. There are many wonderful walks in all directions from the farmhouse and Colonsay’s amazing beaches are only a short drive away. We had amazing weather at the end of August/beginning of September and we didn’t want to leave!

We’ve stayed in Scalasaig farmhouse twice now and on both occasions it has been the perfect base to enjoy Colonsay. We are two families with teens and there’s plenty of room for everyone, with lots of bathrooms and a lovely, cosy decor. Overall, it’s a really relaxing house to stay in, very well equipped with everything you need.

That's it really. I'm not interested in the amount of units used and the fee charged for each - I simply find it a bit dissapointing that I've been asked to pay an additional £41 on top of £20 already included as part of the rental fee (£2800+) for a weeks power & heating oil in high (and warm) season. Jeff Bezos wouldn't ask that of his loyal customers! I've been left a bit annoyed rather than feeling warm and satisfied.

Due to Covid our party was reduced to four people therefore we had plenty of room! All rooms were of an excellent standard and the the kitchen was very well fitted out. Sitting in the sun in the garden (faces South) was a real pleasure.
We have booked again for next year when we hope the rest of our family from Belgium will be with us.

We have just returned from a wonderful and much needed Staycation in the beautiful Scalasaig Farmhouse on Colonsay. We all feel relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated! There were lots of lovely walks to do and we enjoyed seeing the stars on clear nights. We took most of our food with us and the farmhouse kitchen was a joy to cook in. We would fully recommend Colonsay Cottages to everyone who likes nature, cosy comfort and peace and quiet! We also felt very safe with everyone on the island abiding to the current Covid 19 regulations. We enjoyed accessing Oronsay across The Strand, when the tide was out, but would suggest wearing waterproof boots for ease, as it is still fairly wet in a couple of places! All in all, a memorable and very happy holiday for all of us. Thank you Colonsay Cottages for making this possible for us and for the lovely welcome.

We had a great time at this farmhouse. It sleeps 8 but we were only 2 plus a Labrador (late booking). Plenty of space, particularly the dinning kitchen, warm, great garden. It was also close to the hotel for meals (superb food). We loved Colonsay and will be back

Lots of space, comfy beds, good location. Dishwasher is a bit of a nightmare - be careful pulling out the shelves or it collapses, but cleans well. Well equipped kitchen although for a house that sleeps 8, the toaster is a bit mean, just doing 2 slices at a time. Fab showers with lots of hot water, lovely garden (the sheep love it too!), nice and quiet. We had a great stay - thank you!

Just returned to work, so with catching up, this will be short.
Very comfortable with nice beds and linen.
Having sheep in the garden was at times charming and at times squishy! Having one poo free area could be nice.

Suggestions: Simple central heating card affixed to control panel and to Rayburn Kitchen cooker/heater giving simple instructions. We got the rayburn working by guesswork. Garden Table leg wasn't attached but was easily propped up

All in all, the farmhouse was great and we had a great holiday.

Perfect weather helped us have a most enjoyable family week in this well-located farmhouse. A nearby cockeril crowing from early morning and all day was a minor irritation but we enjoyed some eccentric golf on Colonsay's golfcourse. Our attempt to fish a local loch was a near disaster - difficult, possibly dangerous access and no oars for the boat spoiled the eventual one hour's fly fishing with nothing caught. The local shop was a great asset whist we thoroughly enjoyed some wonderfully fresh (ie still alive) crab. But above all Colonsay itself is a most beautiful and calming location

Very disappointed to find broken cot on arrival. Fortunately arrived on early ferry so got it fixed.
Oil and electricity are usually included in cost. A certain amount of coal should certainly be included in cost.

Lovely island and the house provided for our every need. The weather was fairly kind and the folk at the hotel were great. The coal fire was a little time expired and next time we will order coal and bring kindling. I thought the electricity and oil costs were very high but I have no experience of oil fired appliances.

Yet another fabulous time spent at Scalasaig. We love the location, an easy walk to the harbour, hotel, Pantry and shop, but also set back from the road so offers a sense of peace.
The accommodation itself is spacious and airy, with plenty of bathrooms.
All the staff were friendly and helpful too, so we felt welcomed and looked after.
We've stayed at Scalasaig many times now and will certainly return next year.

Just had the best week ever thanks to fantastic weather and a great house, we come to Colonsay on a regular basis but this was the first time that we have stayed at Scalasaig farmhouse and it was lovely very comfortable and we be back next year

Superb location close to the hotel/bar - excellent and well equipped accomodation - ideal for a large party (we had 4 adult couples) - plenty of room/space

We had a fantastic family holiday in scalasaig farmhouse. the weather was amazing. the farmhouse is perfect for a large now adult family & dogs. We love the comfort of the farmhouse & the fact we had no tv. Wi-fi could be turned off.
We will certainly be back & am sure our preference will be to stay at Scalasaig.

Perfect house in perfect location. We ate in the excellent Colonsay hotel most nights (a short walk away) and loved the bar and garden for drinks in the day. Oodles of bathrooms, comfortable bedrooms, large sitting room and well equipped roomy kitchen. Highly recommend.

We enjoyed a fantastic time at the farmhouse. Accommodation was very comfortable and cosy. Great shower! Located within 5 minutes walk to the hotel for some lovely meals. Very friendly and accommodating staff.

Perfect house for 4 couples, we each had our own bathroom, good sized bedrooms, well furnished. Kitchen spacious and well equipped. Sitting room warm and cosy. Masses of hot water. Great location for pub, we could walk there in 5 minutes. Highly recommend.

Fab cottage, fantastic island, loads of beautiful walks and sandy beaches, and you can walk to the hotel in 5 mins from the cottage for delicious fireside pints of locally brewed IPA and great suppers. Also nice walking straight up track behind the cottage for hilltop views out over the island and across the sea to Paps of Jura. Wonderful

Comfortable, warm, stylish and perfect location for many delicious dinners in the hotel. Colonsay is a magical island and this house is centrally located for all the best beaches and handy for the shop, hotel, pantry and old waiting room gallery at the harbour.

Yet again, we had a wonderful week at Scalasaig.
We have stayed here for a number of years now and are still appreciating the recent upgrade of the property.
While living in Scalasaig feels like an authentic island experience, the provision of the recently added facilities, such as en-suite bathrooms and a constant energy supply (ie not relying on remembering to purchase electricity tokens) have certainly added value to the holiday.
The location is particularly good for a mixed group; the proximity of the shop, Hotel and harbour area offering attractions for different ages.
We have already booked our return journey, the best recommendation I think I can offer.

Colonsay is our wonderful home from home & Scalasaig farmhouse is clean cosy and close to the hotel.
We have stayed in other properties previously and this one outclasses them all. The recent refurb makes this a fabulous base for a large family group or friends. Well laid out with all the amenities that make self catering holidays fun.
Don't want to say too much as a big selfish bit of me wants to keep this secret!

we are probably the wrong people to ask to be totally objective -after all it is our 5th visit to the farmhouse --when we started 5 years ago it was really grim and on this our maiden visit we had weather to match but we still loved it --so now it has been converted we feel we have l graduated to a higher level ....this year we were spoiled rotten with superb weather and managed to visit most of our favourite haunts ..terns fishing off Cable Bay with the Paps in the background on a perfect day --why go to the Carribean with this available --and on this particular day it was uniquely available to us on our own !!!

A great house with excellent showers, lovely functional kitchen-dining area and plenty of space for 2 families. No TV which was great and we understand WiFi is on the way. Lovely little sun room overlooking the front lawn where sheep regularly graze. Hills just behind the house are easy to climb & offer great views across to Jura.

Short stroll to the pub which is great fun - look out for quiz night on Thursdays with the Quiz Meister Donald Ross McDonald. Pub staff were great as was the lady in the office who sorted out a minor problem we had very quickly & efficiently - even lent us some Wellies to cross to Oronsay which is a must.

Went to a Ceilidh at the village hall in Scalasaig in aid of the school which was a great laugh. Picked fresh mussels on The Strand for lunch.

Beaches are wonderful especially Kilorin Bay & Cable Bay. Loads of great walks. Colonsay House gardens are wonderful including some amazing Rhododendrons.
