We loved it here. Quirky vintage Merc on arrival in courtyard and cosy decor good facilities. Free coal was a bonus (though we didn't use). Lovely location and on site for the lovely gardens and Bistro. Great stay. More space for food in kitchen was the only slight issue but kitchen very well stocked re utensils etc. Better insulated windows and curtains would help guests save on heating and more clarity re the cleaning we were required to do before leaving as this we thought an unusual request.

We were all impressed by Turnigil apartment, the characterful decor and furnishings. The kitchen and bathroom have been upgraded. More space than we had imagined but with sunny dry days during our stay we were out every day. A peaceful wonderful place to stay.

Spacious apartment.
Comfortable double bed.
Mismatch of kitchen items irritatingly mismatched glassware, no champagne flutes. No coasters for coffee table or bedside cabinets. We asked for extra but quite sharply told "no" there were none!
Very draughty and difficult to keep warm and cosy, however free coal was provided which was provided, but we had to go down two flights of stairs, across the courtyard to heave it back up to the apartment.
It was nice to have access to the grounds which we walked a couple of times.
If you are prepared to accept these irritations then the location makes up for it.

We very much enjoyed staying in Turnigil apartment. It was just what we needed for the 4 of us. We required a couple of extra cooking utensils which were supplied very quickly. We also required a wee bit of maintenance which was also done very speedily.
The only comment I would make, which needs looking at, is that the hot water out of the tap was far too hot and would recommend the thermostat be turned down, please.

We have stayed in various places in Colonsay over the years, but this was out first time at Turnigil. It was one of four apartments we had booked for an extended family gathering. We were pleasantly surprised at the spaciousness of the accommodation and the lovely views from it.

Three of us stayed in the Turnigil apartment at Colonsay House. It was perfect for our needs and looked like it had been recently refurbished. The only criticism would be the size of the kitchen area. Only one person could be working there as it was so cramped, but it was well equipped and had all the appliances you would want.
The ‘outer’ gardens which surround the walled garden, are lovely. There are lots of paths and wilder areas to enjoy.
It is only a short walk to Kiloran Bay and not far from several other beautiful beaches.
A week wasn’t enough. We’ll be back!

We loved Colonsay, and the apartment was perfect for our brief stay. It’s central to the island. The gardens were closed during our stay so next time it would be nice to visit those.

Having stayed in other apartments at Colonsay House, I was disappointed with Turnigil.
A new toilet seat (with a lid) should be a priority. The old wooden seat really spoilt what could be a smart bathroom. A new mirror in the double bedroom would also be an urgent requirement in my view.
I thought the chest of drawers in the twin bedroom would be considered a health and safety risk as it leans and must be unstable meaning it could topple over when opening the drawers.

We were very happy with Turnigil Apartment. We had a lovely view over the garden at one side and, at the other, looked across the roofs and chimney pots of the rest of the house. We really enjoyed sitting by the fire in the evening, not putting the television on once. The inner garden and also the woodland garden were beautiful and we can highly recommend the garden cafe. It was nice to be close enough to stroll down to the sands at Kiloran Bay in the evening, listening for the rasping noise of the corncrakes in the long grass. When we visited in early May the machair was covered in wild flowers, a sight I will never forget. We have visited a few of the other Hebridean islands but Colonsay is the most unspoilt place we have ever been. We will definitely be back!

The best part of this apartment was the bathroom which was up-to-date and had a double-glazed window. We found the other rooms cold and badly lit. The ancient, draughty windows should have been replaced and although we put the wall heaters on they had little effect. Looking in the mirror in the double bedroom was like looking into fog. There was a very poor selection of cooking equipment and crockery and we had to go to the office to ask for several items that were missing.
However, Lynette in the office was exceedingly helpful, the bed was warm and comfortable and the kitchen appliances were as expected and worked well. We would have paid a little more to be comfortable.

Enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the well equipped apartment - comfy beds and views to idyllic countryside and beautiful gardens. Sampled home cooking in the cafe, friendly hospitality and excellent food at the Colonsay Hotel. Walked every day and found the island a welcome respite after the last 18 months. Icing on the cake to hear both the cuckoo and corncrake.

CalMac's winter timetable, seasonal storms and livestock sales all meant that travel plans had to be flexible. But it worked out well as the early ferry on Friday gave us a very sunny day at Ardskenish, and the slightly latter ferry the next Friday gave us more time to enjoy another sunny day. In between times there were great Atlantic storms bringing huge breakers on to Colonsay's west coast. Turnigil provided a great haven after long days out in the wild weather - perhaps the only suggestion is to have a few hooks in the downstairs corridor for very wet jackets!

Love dour short 2 nights stay here.Beautiful garden grounds as a setting, excellent little Garden Cafe too.The apartment was charming and spacious, comfortable and cosy with the fire blazing away at night.It might benefit from a stove being installed as we had to use coal and there was quite a bit of blow back at times during windy evenings.The shower is one of these hand held showers as you sit in the bath which is never ideal but being an attic room, there's limited height for a proper shower.
Very quiet and peaceful at night with a lovely outlook onto the gardens.
Would certainly stay again.The local shop is actually very well stocked with fresh meat (fish on a Thurs), veg and fruit and some quite exotic cooking ingredients too.Much better than the usual small island shop.
We took the car over this visit given our short time - much better for getting about especially down to the tidal crossing to Oronsay and for transporting 'stuff' for self catering.

Unser Aufenthalt im Turnigil Apartment war einfach nur traumhaft. Sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet, alles vorhanden, was man braucht, noch schöner als auf den Fotos. Der Ausblick auf den Garten ist bezaubernd.
Sehr familiäre Atmosphäre und super nette und hilfsbereite Betreuung.

The apartment we stayed in (Turnigal) at Colonsay House, was lovely. Clean, well equipped, comfortable and well located. The staff were very helpful and very friendly, and couldn't do enough to make us feel at home. It was clear that they were taking Covid cleanliness very seriously but sensibly. Colonsay itself is a beautiful island with lots of breathtaking walks. The gardens around Colonsay House are also fascinating and worth a visit. And you must try to get over to Oronsay at low tide, another beautiful walk.

We had a lovely time on Colonsay. Thank you. Just for the benefit of others I'd like to mention one or two problems we had. We did not know how to work the heaters and the instructions given practically said "leave them as they are". Consequently we were a bit chilly over the weekend until the office opened on Monday morning. Clearer instructions about the heaters , especially the manual button, would be helpful. The other problem was that we lost Internet service two times during our stay and there was no one about to ask for help.
On a very positive note there was a lovely young man named Alex who welcomed us and helped us carry our luggage to our room. We also really enjoyed our afternoon teas and delicious scones in the Workshop Cafe. The staff were very friendly and efficient.
