We stayed at Westhope Country Retreats as a large group as we were visiting from Cumbria for our daughters wedding. All the accommodation was booked by family and friends and we stayed in Troopers Barn. We had the most fantastic weekend, the accommodation was excellent, very spacious, clean, comfortable and inviting. The large lounge/dining room worked really well for a large group get together. The homemade cake, bottle of wine and bar of chocolate was such a lovely touch to welcome us on the Friday. If we were visiting the area again we would definitely stay here and can highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing base.

We all enjoyed a family gathering of three families, plenty of place to sit for meals and in the evening.Barn was clean and tidy on arrival with fresh milk in the fridge and a very nice home made cake waiting for us.We had a couple of issues that were promptly solved by the very friendly and efficient staff.All in all we had a great time..

We stayed at Troopers Barn for a week with 2 families, over 18s. Lots of space and excellent kitchen and dining table for 10 of us. Young adults enjoyed the use of the games room. Friendly staff. Would come back again.

We had a wonderful stay. Got treated to a home made, delicious cake as a warm welcome. Ideal holiday home for a large family or friends. Perfect rural spot for some peace. Staff were very accommodating with our specific needs and even got a phone call day before arrival to make sure our needs were met.

Just come back from a 4 night stay celebrating a 60th birthday and we all had the most amazing time.
The house was so well equipped and nothing was too much trouble, all the small added extras like cake, wine and chocolate on arrival was very well received.
If you are looking for a property to hold a larger family that I can’t recommend this place enough, thank you so much for a fabulous week and we will definitely be back.

We’ve been staying at Westhope Country Retreats for years as we have family nearby. It is a truly wonderful place; welcoming, family and pet friendly, professional and beautiful.

The houses are always well-presented and well equipped, the beds are comfortable, there’s lots of lovely hot water and all the rooms are a perfect temperature.

The whole team who run the place are always friendly, and accommodating whenever they can be.

The location is great, with hikes on the doorstep, swallows swooping overhead and the peace of deep countryside. There’s also a brilliant games room for kids of all ages which my preteen and his friend really appreciated.

I honestly cannot fault Westhope Country Retreats and I know this industry well as I used to run a holiday lets business myself in France. It’s no mean feat to offer a personal yet professional service and they excel.

We will return, without a doubt.

The accommodation was fantastic. We all were very happy with the rooms and size of the rooms and lounge and cleanliness of the house. The equipment provided bbq, hot tub, logs, garden furniture were fantastic. The emails before in preparation for our visit were all extremely helpful.

The location was perfect nice walks nearby. Also close to Ludlow a wonderful town.

My only one little gripe would be the games room. The table tennis net was broken. Also the table football handles kept falling off plus it is a bit flimsy. If both of these were better I think we would have used the games room more.

Overall though we all loved our stay.

3 families stayed in the house ageing 8 to 79. We feel that this was a great place to bring a family together to celebrate and spend time together. With the hot tub, games room, walks and the sizes of the house with its facilities there was something for everyone. Would definitely recommend and May go back soon.

Fourteen of us amateur musicians have just had another wonderful stay at Westhope where the barns have been sensitively converted to spacious and very comfortable accommodation. The setting next to Wenlock Edge is glorious and the management are on hand to quickly deal with any minor niggles. It's a lovely place to play music and head off for a walk in beautiful countryside.

A lovely big property that was ideal for 10 of us plus our dog Milo. Comfy beds very well equipped throughout. The welcome Victoria Sponge was delicious. Sauna brilliant! If there is a small negative ... the cushion covers and bed throws could do with washing or replacing. That aside, everything was excellent Thankyou

The house is very comfortable, warm, well equipped, nicely decorated, and more than we were expecting. The beds were very comfortable and we slept very well.
The customer service is excellent and the information and guidance before we stayed was better than we could have asked for. We will definitely be rebooking for next year.

This was our 6th visit. Ideal location for a relaxing weekend with friends. Long walks, hot tub, lots of food and wine, all delivered by Tesco to the door, so no hassle.
Problem with the TV in main room but sorted next morning.
Only slight criticism was there didn't seem to be as many serving dishes as when been before and extras like cling film, foil, werent available which were there previously. Not a major problem.
Will be back.

"The guests staying in the Barn during last week generally agreed that the accommodation was of a very high standard, but that there were a number of issues that should be addressed and in many cases this would be very easy:

- the cistern in the toilet at the foot of staircase 2 is not filling up, so the water flow does not clear away solid human waste, even when the flush buttons are held down;

- the toilet paper provided is of the lowest quality, with small individual single-ply sheets;

- the instruction manual in the bottom kitchen drawer for the dishwasher does not match the model installed;

- the Wi-Fi instructions in the main information folder do not match the router with the strongest signal in the Barn. Those on the small card on the lounge table are correct;

- the fire safety inspection certificate displayed at the bottom of staircase 2 is for The Cow Shed, not Troopers Barn;

- the velux windows in twin bedroom 5 and its bathroom cannot easily be reached for opening and would benefit from provision of a suitable pole and hook;

- the mattress in bedroom 2 at the top of staircase 1 is very large and deep. The fitted sheet provided was slightly too small, so could not reach around all four corners at once, and slipped out of position during the night."

Thank you to everyone at Westhope for making our Fathers 70th birthday celebrations so special. The cottages were perfect and so cosy. We were so pleased with the facilities and the whole family (ages from 9-70) had the best time ever. We made memories that will last a life time.

We were a large family group of 3 generations and Troopers Barn provided everything we needed and more for a fabulous week away together. Everything was spotlessly clean in this spacious property and there was plenty of room for us all. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you could need. The games room, gym and hot tub were amazing and kept the younger generation occupied. Staff were great and quickly sorted a minor problem out for us. We had an amazing time and would highly recommend this property it was everything that we wanted and more, thank you.

We had a wonderful weekend celebrating two big birthdays with family. The accommodation was perfect for our family and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to come back again. It was very relaxing and we made good use of the hot tub and all had fun in the games room.
There were just two things that would improve our stay; the double bed in the upstairs middle room was very creaky, and we took our recycling home as it was very unclear how this would be sorted in the bins outside.
We will definitely recommend the cottages to our friends.

Our large family group rented three of the cottages and Chloe helped us to coordinate the Milking Parlour for the big family dinner by bringing in extra tables and dinnerware for a small extra charge. Troopers Barn has facilitates that made it accessible for one member of our group who is is wheelchair dependant. Cottages were all comfortable and clean and the welcome cake and wine was much appreciated. We will be back again next year!

We booked Troopers Barn for a celebration of my parents birthdays. There were 6 adults, 5 children and 2 beagles in our party and we all loved it! My mum described it as her idea of heaven. So much space for us all to not get under each others feet, and for us to all be together at the same time comfortably. The cottage was lovely and warm, the log burner adding to the cozy feeling. Kitchen is well equipped, plenty of towels are provided, beds are comfy, and the dogs even had some welcome biscuits! The hot tub was great, very relaxing and we made use of the shared games room! We had a supermarket delivery for our food and so didn’t need to leave other than for some beautiful scenic walks.

I stayed in Troopers Barn with my family, there were 12 of us in total and troopers Barn was perfect for space.
There were plenty of seats for everyone to relax in the living room area and we were all able to sit at the dining table to enjoy a meal together. I loved how the bedrooms were spread out from each other as we were travelling with two babies and they weren't disturbed once.
We all enjoyed the hot tub during our stay.
On arrival the owner had left a cake and a bottle of wine for us with some milk for tea / coffee etc which was a lovely touch especially after a long journey. The cake was delicious.
Check in was really simple and was nice just to relax right away.
Everything was thought of and provided by the owners which made our stay even more relaxing such as high chairs, travel cot, dogs bowls (even dogs treats) everything was provided in the kitchen Prosecco glasses, dishwasher tablets.
I liked the patio area for the dogs and the local walking routes.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at Troopers Barn

Stayed for the weekend with some girlfriends and had a great time. Chloe was amazing and really helpful. Lovely Victoria Sponge and bottle of wine left out for our arrival and the log burner was a god send! Had difficulty finding it in the dark but once there we found everything comfortable and enjoyed the hot tub. Never did find the games room though!

Westhope is a great place because it is cosy and comfortable, very clean and well maintained.A lot of thought has gone into making it a great place to stay. The support/information before your visit is excellent and it is situated in some breathtaking countryside and close to some excellent walks and fantastic towns like Ludlow, Clun and Bishops Castle. All my fiends love the place and we will be back.

We had a fantastic time staying at troopers barn. The accommodation was excellent. So much space and room for 9 guests.
The staff I have contacted about our booking were friendly and helpful.

We enjoyed a wet walk in the local area and spent time at the accommodation using the hot tub and having a relaxing time. I highly recommend booking!

We planned a family holiday to mark some milestones with the people we love.
Our criteria was enough room for 11 people and 2 dogs with a hot tub to enjoy.
When Trooper's Barn appeared on my search, it seemed to fit the bill perfectly. Shropshire is not a county that I am familiar with, but there seemed plenty of activities, even though we had only just come out of Lockdown as a country.
The barn was clean and comfortable, a large dining table meant we could all eat together.
The Hot Tub was a great hit and there are plenty of walks for the dogs.
It is livestock farming country, so dogs need to be on a lead, but we found some wooded areas where they could run free.
Ludlow is very quaint and some of the group joined Ludlow Parkrun on the Saturday morning.

We were a party of 10 (7 adults and 3 children), and found the property to be extremely spacious and well equipped. The barn has been well designed and fitted with all mod cons / appliances you could require. The hot tub was large, comfortable enough for 6 / 8. The weather wasn’t great but if it had, the court yard would have been great to relax in. My only slight negative was the size of the BBQ, considering the property sleeps 11, the BBQ was very small but this didn’t deter from a great stay. The property is situated in the middle of nowhere (which we liked), might not suit people who would like to walk to a shop / pub.

Our weekend at Troopers Barn was lovely. It is in a gorgeous location though the narrow access roads are quite scary with all the huge farm vehicles using them. The house is very comfortable and the outside area very relaxing with the addition of the hot tub.

The kitchen is well equipped although we struggled to find a bread knife which may be a useful addition. The family reported that their rooms were comfortable but the bedroom I was in (Up staircase one and the furthest along the corridor) the mattress was not good.

We have revisited Westhope many times and stayed in Troopers barn on this visit. All the accommodation is fantastic. On arrival a bottle of wine and freshly baked cake just give that bit extra to start your break. The accommodation is spotlessly clean and everything you need is provided. The location is so peaceful and just helps you relax and take in the fresh air. We will definitely be visiting again.

Amazing, we have had a wonderful weekend. The barn is fantastic, so much room, where you don't feel on top of each other. We came as a party of 22 over three barns, we all gathered in troopers barn on Saturday evening. There was room for us all, as we celebrated my husbands 70th birthday. We will certainly book again. Great location in close proximity to Ludlow and Church Stretton. Good facilities including hot tub. Very clean and well equipped. Wood burning stove is a good addition. Great list of items included with the a cake and bottle of wine being nice touches.

We were so pleased that we booked Troopers Barn for our family Christmas gathering -All e-mails leading up to our stay were answered quickly by the owner ,who greeted us upon arrival. The place had been decorated beautifully and homemade mince pies and mulled wine was left on the large dining table. (this proved to be the hub of our family activities)
Everything you could think of was supplied -As it was Christmas, I'd packed my own cooking trays ,roasting forks etc thinking we'd need them to do a full Christmas dinner but they had very well stocked cupboards and had plenty of everything.
The accommodation itself was lovely and roomy ,giving us all enough space to relax and enjoy ourselves.
The place was lovely and warm with nice bedding and pillows.
The hot tub was well maintained throughout our stay.
The Alpaca farm was a very short walk away and was an added bonus for 8mth old baby and 74 year old nannie who loved going to visit them.
Lovely walks just on your doorstep too.
We had booked the catering services (Jo at The Loft) for our first night and can recommend this - Jo turned up on our doorstep laden with boxes of fabulous meals that went down a treat (Extremely good value for money and really tasty and plentiful too)
The location is out in the sticks and has to be reached by very long narrow lanes (I'm not known for doing lanes !!) but even I got the hang of it by day two and would happily book again.

We had a wonderful weekend staying in Troopers. The layout of the barn meant that we could accommodate the little ones in the bedrooms at one end of the barn and the “oldies” at the other. There were 10 in our party but there was space for another 2. All the rooms were comfortable and very clean.

Downstairs the kitchen had everything you could need and the living room was roomy and great to get everyone together.
We took over Troopers and two other barns for our party and we had a great weekend. It really works well if your looking to find somewhere for a big get together.

The barns are a little in the middle of nowhere, so don’t run out of milk!!!

Had a fabulous 3 night stay. Troopers barn was beautiful. The photos in the advertisement do not do this place justice it is far better. Had everything you needed for a self catering holiday. Would recommend this quality accommodation without hestitation. Just one point the barn is quite isolated so if you need a shop or pub it's about an 18 minute drive

Had a wonderful long weekend with family at troopers barn for husbands 50th birthday.The accommodation was amazing,cleanliness was 100%,an absolutely beautiful place to stay.The hot tub was a big hit! Had fun in the games room,and had some lovely walks with the dog.The owner and staff friendly and welcoming couldn't fault a thing about our stay-we didn't want to go home!!

We booked 4 of the houses for a big group of families and it was perfect. The houses themselves were all spotless and very nicely finished. There were lovely touches like a home-baked cake and a bottle of wine left in each house. The location is amazing - lots of places for long walks and beautiful rolling countryside all around. I highly recommend a stay!

Once we arrived having got a little bit lost the accommodation looked really welcoming, the buildings looked perfect in the landscape and once inside the space and facilities were excellent, we had every piece of equipment we required , the bedrooms were lovely with really comfortable beds and plenty of storage space, the outside space was lovely with lots of sitting down area, could have done with a few umbrella as the weather was really hot. It was lovely to look out of the window at the alpacas getting up to mischief and the sheep grazing . A really lovely few days which we all really enjoyed many thanks

As our diamond wedding anniversary was fast approaching we were looking for a conveniently located venue that would accomodate a family gathering with people travelling from the USA as well as the north and south of England. Troopers Barn ticked all the boxes. A beautiful location in middle England, furnished and decorated to a high standard with an added bonus of the alpacas - a delightful surprise for the younger members of our party (and the oldies, too). Marianne and her staff were helpful, friendly and readily available. Even the weather smiled on us during our stay.

Westhope Country Retreats is perfect for our annual family get together. 20 of us (and dogs) come together from different parts of the country to laugh, play games, walk, sightsee, eat and drink. Marianne and her team meet our needs brilliantly and oblige our requests to make the cottages as anti-allergy inducing as possible.

Lovely converted barn in a quiet rural location. Cottage was well equipped and clean, with plenty of space for all 11 of us. The hot tub is great to wind down at the end of the day too. The cottages are quite remote, but only 30-40 min drive to a whole host of good attractions and beautiful countryside. The owners and staff at the holiday homes couldn’t have been more helpful. Would 100% recommend to anyone.

The barn was perfect for a big group. It was also helpful that the layout had two upstairs areas - one with a single bedroom, another with 3. Kitchen, bathroom and living room facilities had everything we required. Hot tub was great. Couldn’t have needed more.

A family get-together which was a Xmas present from us to our children & grandchildren. The property was in excellent condition, very clean & tidy with plenty of room for 6 adults & 6 children. 5 bedrooms , most with en-suite bathrooms. Secluded area in a lovely part of the country with a field of alpacas opposite the property. The children loved them! A nice touch with a welcoming cake & bottle of wine & chocolate eggs! Big hot tub & barbecue with charcoal etc.in the rear garden. We had an excellent weekend & would do it again.
