We enjoyed a 4 night break in this very comfortable and extremely well located cottage in the Brecon Beacons. The bright blue sky and wall to wall sunshine, in Mid September, helped.
The cottage, one of five, is very well equiped and beautifully decorated. The host, Peter, was there to greet us on arrival and was very helpful throughout. Indeed, his tips on places to eat were spot on, the food was excellent.
The Brecon Canal and access to many other walks was just a short distance from the cottage door, just what we wanted.
We will definately be back, next time for a longer stay.

4 of us friends stayed at the Bothy this weekend. It is such a lovely quiet escape. The house was beautiful like the photos and had everything we could have needed. The owner is lovely and very helpful. It's only a short trip to Brecon and the best ice cream at Llanfaes Dairy. Overall I would highly recommend a stay!

Second visit to property - visiting family in area. Peter, the owner, greeted us on arrival and made us most welcome. Cottage very quiet and comfortable. Kitchen well equipped, bathroom lovely and warm, main bedroom good but be aware of low sloping beams either side of bed! Excellent for our dog as field opposite front door available to guests with cut paths for ease of walking. EV charging point up and working now in parking area.

As ever the accommodation is clean, very comfortable with all modern amenities. The grounds are beautiful, we sat in the meadow amongst the trees enjoying the sunset with a glass of fizz. The Ty Mawr team having mowed paths in and around so you can walk freely.
We took advantage of the Treatment studio, a welcome addition in recent years.
As ever nothing was too much trouble, and we were left in private to enjoy a very relaxing and comfortable weekend.

The Bothy is beautifully presented with everything anyone needs for a perfect holiday in a very peaceful location. The cottage is also very conveniently located for walks along the canal and days out in the Brecon Beacons.

We love this little collection of cottages. The peace and quiet, the silent, dark nights, beautiful scenery and cosy log burners keep us coming back. We’ve always come in the colder months as we love the atmosphere when the walks are less busy and the looming hills of the Brecons are shrouded in mist. The cottages themselves are very nicely renovated and well equipped. There’s a huge secure field for the dog to roam in as well as parking with a charger for the EV. I plan to return again soon.

A warm, comfy, well equipped cottage. Beds huge and snuggly. Bathroom with shower beautifully decorated. Enough seating in living area for all family and a table that extends if required to eat dinner. Kitchen well equipped with lots of storage space.
Lots of extras such as books and games and magazines plus fresh flowers a lovely touch.
Enough room for two adults and two children plus plenty of space for walkies in the grounds with dogs and children including two patio areas of your own.
Great hosts who welcomed us on arrival.
Definitely one to recommend.

Wow wow wow what a wonderful find. The accommodation is to a high specification with everything catered for. The beds are comfy. The dogs are going to be sad not to wake up in such beautiful surroundings with the beautiful parkland. Such a beautiful part of Wales. The owners were very welcoming and friendly. Cannot wait to return sometime soon.

The Bothy is a lovely warm well-equipped cottage, furnished attractively, within easy driving distance of lots of fabulous places to walk. The National Park Centre in Libanus is only a few miles away and has lots of leaflets and other information. I was nearly put off booking the cottage by the emphasis in other reviews on the benefits of these cottages for dogs, as we aren’t dog lovers, but The Bothy stands slightly apart from the other cottages on the estate and we weren’t troubled by other guests’ dogs at all. We certainly hope to stay here again. The only negative comment about the cottage is that the low beams and sloping ceilings in the master bedroom do require some bending to avoid!

We found this gem of a place online and loved it. Spotlessly clean and the most comfy beds ever! We are from Brecon and return in Christmas and Easter to visit friends and family, but with our own family and dog never want to impose on them so this is excellent for us. We will be back soon and thank you for a wonderful couple of days stay.

We have stayed in the Dairy and the Bothy at Tymawr cottages and both times we have had a brilliant time.
The cottages are cozy and relaxing. Lovely area to take your dogs for walks and close to the surrounding towns.
We cant wait to book another stay here, perfect for a getaway with your furry friend.

Fabulous peaceful location & setting, superbly equipped, tastefully decorated & furnished to a high standard, very dog friendly including 12 acres of private parkland for dog walking, lovely canal walks near by & plenty of places to visit & eateries to cater for all budgets, topped by very hospitable & welcoming hosts in Peter & Alexandra. we throughly enjoyed our stay at the Bothy. The cottage is cosy and comfortable, with top quality fixtures and fittings, it is also set in beautiful surroundings. Our two dogs loved the Large field where they could run off lead and play with new doggie friends. There were lots of walks nearby including a lovely one along the Brecon canal, part of which could be done from the door. All in all a lovely stay.

2nd time at Ty Mawr, first time The Cottage, this time The Bothy. Both times we were impressed by the attention to detail and the 'homeliness' of the cottages. We enjoyed the surrounding very much, walked the Llanfrynach - Fan y Big round, rented a day boat at Beacon Park Boats, did a walk to the falls, etc etc. We will surely return another time.

A beautiful well kept cottage which is designed to a high standard sits in a peaceful and relaxing area of Brecon, very close to Brecon town centre. Dogs are welcomed and there’s a field opposite for easy exercising. The Brecon Canal is close by and Llangors lake is just a few miles away.

This beautiful cottage is our 7th year of visiting. We love the use of quality furnishings and the decor is so lovely and homely. The facilities are great and everything has been thought of. It’s great being able to bring our dog though it did smell of the previous dogs visit in the sitting room area. But this did not detract from the wonderful ambiance of the room. The view across the paddock and wood beyond is lovely. We will definitely be back.

The Bothy was cosy, comfortable and well equipped to a high standard, as a family of 4 with a dog it had everything we needed from wi if , log burner, well equipped kitchen and outdoor seating to enjoy views and eating outside. The hosts were welcoming, friendly and helpful with local knowledge. The added bonus of a field to walk the dog was lovely. The accommodation was well placed to easily access the surrounding area whether that was walking canals routes or mountains and forests. Brecon had all essential shops. We had a fantastic holiday and would return and recommend the Bothy.

The Bothy is a gorgeous cottage in a fabulous location. Had a great stay here in February. The cottage was warm and cosy with a log burner. Enclosed field to let the dog off. A great base to use as a gateway to walk in the Beacons.

This is now our 5th stay at Ty Mawr Cottages and it's still such a great haven away from home for us and our doggies. Everything is so clean and welcoming with beautiful fresh flowers awaiting our arrival. This was our first time staying in the Bothy and my husband commented that he liked this one the most. The cottages all have everything you need and Peter is always so welcoming. Highly recommend the Three Horseshoes at Groesfford and the Felin Fach Griffin - great meals at both with the Griffin just pipping it. Weather was blustery and raining but the cottage and log burner make the stay so cosy,

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Bothy. The cottage was extremely comfortable and very well-equipped: we had everything we needed to cook a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings! There are beautiful walks from the doorstep with the dog-walking field opposite being an added bonus. This meant that it was easy to walk our year-old labrador , Caspar, off-lead in secure surroundings, at any time of day.

Although the weather was wet, we had a lovely time and would love to come back again in the spring or summer, when we can explore more of this beautiful area.

…storm Barra raged whilst we hunkered down in this cozy Bothy.
What a lovely cottage decorated and filled with quality items that made our stay very comfortable despite the awful weather.
First trip away from home for our little dog who quickly decided the big field opposite was hers and far better than our garden!
Hopefully we can return next year and try some of the walks recommended by Peter.
Thank you for the flowers and the yummy Welsh cakes!

We had a lovely stay in this extremely well equipped and comfortable cottage set in beautiful countryside. We enjoyed days out exploring the area, having walks on the canal, up in the hills or mooching round local towns and villages. Our third stay at Ty Mawr (previously stayed at The Dairy and The Coach). Let's say I always hesitate to write a review in case it means they are booked up and we can't go again. If you like walking, the location is perfect for exploring the Beacons and a climb up Pen Y Van or flatter strolls alongside beautiful streams. Peter is always very welcoming; the cottages and clean and superbly equipped and very comfortable.

This is our second visit to Ty Mawr and again we were impressed with the comfortably furnished and well appointed accommodation. It is set in secluded grounds with many scenic walking routes accessible on foot. A local pub, a five minute drive away, provides quality food with friendly service.

This is the fourth time we have stayed at Ty Mawr. This time in the Bothy, previously in the Laundry and the Coach. Always superb accommodation. Peter Davies gives a lovely greeting and is so helpful, answering any questions about walks, where to go and where to eat. We recommend the Three Horseshoes, the local pub and restaurant in Groesfford.

The cottage was just as in the photographs, the kitchen was amply supplied with equipment. There was a wide choice of books and some games if required. I can well understand why some families return time and again.

Having been locked down over a year with WFH setting all day, I decided to have an escape as soon as the lockdown was easing. I felt lucky that I had chosen such a beautiful, quiet, and cosy place to stay. Everything was simply perfect - the location, weather, the cottage. The only complaint (not related to the cottage) was again due to lock down not being fully removed and we couldn't have dinners in restaurants.

Came and stayed in the bothy for a week, from the initial booking the communication was superb. We arrived and received a warm welcome. The cottage is stunning, kitted out very nicely (don’t bother bringing utensils, wine glasses etc as it’s better than most of us have at home). The cottage was spotless when we arrived especially important with Covid around. It has underfloor heating which is delightful. It is very quiet here and peaceful. If you aren’t lucky enough to live in the countryside then step outside after dark as the stars are something else. If you have a dog then you’re in for a treat as there’s a huge park area outside which is perfect for exercising and you’ll often bump into other guests with their dogs. If you get a chance book a massage in the spa, it was lovely. The location is superb as there’s lots of great walks from the village you can go for miles. The only downside was having to leave, we could’ve stayed for a few weeks happily. We are currently sat at home trying to work out when we can stay again. We’ve stayed in lots of nice places but this one tops them all. Thank you to peter and Alexandra for being such nice hosts it was an absolute delight staying there for a week.

We stayed for a wet week in Wales, although that didn't matter too much as The Bothy was warm and welcoming with a fire set ready to go in the log burner. The cottage was immaculately clean and we loved the vase of fresh flowers that were also waiting for us. This was one of several thoughtful touches that included games and books, videos and nic naks that made the lace feel homely. The kitchen was very well equipped with just about everything one could think of and the beds were extremely comfortable - we slept very well.. Tall guests should watch out in the main bedroom as the ceiling is quite low - we bumped our head a few times.

Had a wonderful stay at the Bothy. Excellent accommodation that is beautifully comfortable and very well equipped. The location was great for access to the Brecons and places such as Hay-on-Wye and Crickhowell with some very good walks on the door step to. Very welcoming and helpful hosts who provide an excellent information pack for what to do, see and eat. This included vet contacts which was a very thoughtful touch for people bringing their 4 legged family members (like us). Definitely stay here again if it wasn't already booked out for the rest of the year!

This was our second visit to The Bothy, booked to replace a cancelled foreign holiday. Peter and Alexandra were so welcoming, friendly and kind with our children. The Bothy is very well equipped and is extremely cosy and comfortable, so we were able to relax and felt really at home there. The outside courtyard to the rear provides a lovely sun trap and the field and stream in front of the cottage was great for letting the children roam freely in. We spent lots of time sitting outside enjoying the peaceful setting and watching buzzards fly by. For colder nights there is a lovely wood burner but we didn’t need it this stay. It is in a great location for exploring the Brecon Beacons and there are plenty of walks to do either from the cottage along the canal, or within a half or or so you can be in Hay on Wye, climbing Sugar Loaf in Abergavenny or visiting waterfalls in Ystradfellte. We spent a wonderful week at The Bothy and left with our batteries definitely recharged. We would highly recommend.

We had a really first rate stay in The Bothy, our third at the Ty Mawr Collection of cottages. The cottage is very well appointed and in very good condition. The hosts were most helpful. The cottage was beautifully quiet at night; the birds were the only noise, and it was lovely to hear the natural world. We were able to have dinner on the terrace outside the cottage on three occasions; never before have we eaten outside so much in the evening in the UK!

We have had the most idilic stay in the Bothy. The accommodation is first class, all you could possibly need for a home from home self catering break. The setting of the Bothy is quite spectacular, walking distance from the mountains, towns and pubs and in such a tranquil, quiet area. Our dog loved being able to run round the private field right outside our front door, and we loved how safe he was away from any busy roads.

Peter was a great host and talked us through all the amenities and local points of interest when we arrived.

I really hope we can come back to stay in the near future as we have just had such a fantastic week.

I don’t think 5 stars does the accommodation justice as we have stayed in other supposed 5 star self catering properties that couldn’t touch the Bothy, for location, quality or comfort. They have really thought of everything here to make for a wonderful holiday.

Stayed in The Bothy for 6 nights and it was fabulous. Great location and excellent facilities.
Great attention to detail and quality items in the house. Nothing was too much trouble either for the owners.

This was our 5th visit to Ty Mawr - we’ve stayed 3 times in the Bothy and twice in The Laundry. Fabulous every time. We never want to leave. Couldn’t recommend highly enough. And needless to say, we will definitely be back.

This is the 6th year we have stayed here. It is always beautifully presented and offers everything you can possibly need for a weekend away. Our little bolt hole.
The bothy is always clean and tidy with a fully equipped kitchen. There’s always fresh flowers. We love the location and are able to leave the car here and walk up into the hills. The bothy has become a regular break for us and I’m sure we’ll be back again next year.

Beautiful property in a peaceful location. A walkers paradise as footpaths lead to hills and canal path from front door. Lots of thoughtful touches such as dish washer tablets, cling film, maps, books, magazines are provided, items that can inadvertently be forgotten. Unlimited supply of logs for cosy burner. My dogs love the park to run in and play in the little stream. Llanfrynach is a lovely little village, perfectly positioned within the national park, it’s a real shame the pub closed down recently, though there are plenty of other options a short drive away.

The Bothy proved to be the perfect Cottage for a short break for my family and two dogs. Very comfortable with practical flagstones and underfloor heating downstairs, and extremely comfortable bedrooms - warm and snug. well fitted kitchen and gorgeous bathroom. Great local environment, but with plenty of walking routes literally from the doorstep, and a privately owned, nicely cultivated field for short morning / evening strolls. Thank you to Peter for such a warm welcome.

We found the Bothy quite enchanting, and everything perfect. The scenery helped to enhance everything. We went there after a Very stressful couple of months, it was the perfect antidote....we shall stay there again.

Very quaint cottage - everything you would need is here including Netflix to catch up on TV in the evenings including films!
The kitchen is great with everything you would need.
A lovely lounge with a wood fire (in colder months) with an excellent TV in case the weather is unkind - with small dining table which is perfect! .Upstairs - lovely bathroom with walk in shower, twin bedroom and finally a master bedroom - the only downside is that if you are tall the ceiling could be a problem, as it has a sloping roof, I had to keep bending down getting to my side of the bed.
The owner was very helpful and only a phonecall away if you had any queries.
Would we recommend the place - yes, although we would try one of the other cottages next time! as there are 4 others on site.
Unfortunately the local pub/restaurant has closed down - Black Swan, shame as it was only 2 minutes walk away.

This was a beautifully furnished and equipped Cottage and unlike other places we have stayed, the kitchen had everything we needed to self-cater. This and the fact that it was in such a lovely area and the dogs had a fenced field on the doorstep made it worth the highish cost. Would certainly return and definitely recommend. We went there on recommendation and it did not disappoint!

This venue was recommended by a friend and what a recommendation!We stayed in The Bothy. It is a great location, was very clean on arrival with the added touch of fresh flowers and an easter egg and most of all it was very dog friendly. I only met the owners briefly but they were very welcoming and always on hand if we needed them! The Bothy itself was comfortable and finished at a very high Spec! It location is quiet and idyllic. The only thing I would say is there was a very late check in of 4pm having said that we got there early and were helpfully directed onto a walk toThe nearest pub!

Love staying at The Bothy. Excellent accommodation with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Everything has been thought of to make our stay enjoyable. Love the location. We walked from the cottage up to Fan y big in wonderful weather. Love that we can leave the car and walk either into the mountains or along the canal. We have stayed here 5 years in a row and plan on returning next year.

We stayed in The Bothy for 4 nights. Peter was very helpful and welcoming and everything was provided that we could possibly need. The Bothy was very comfortable and cosy with a wonderful supply of logs for the woodburner. The walks from The Bothy were fabulous. All in all a perfect stay and we hope to return in the future.

My wife and our wonderful friends had a lovely stay in the Bothy at Ty Mawr for New Years. The cottage was beautiful, couldn't have been better located and Peter was very helpful. This was our second stay at Ty Mawr cottages and won't be our last. Excellent value for money. Our taxi driver summed it up perfectly one night by saying we were staying in the best venue in the Brecons. Everything you could hope for in a cottage break and more. Thoroughly recommend to all! We recently stayed in the wonderful Bothy. We had a wedding to attend in a nearby village and wanted somewhere peaceful and close to the location of the wedding to stay and The Bothy ticked all the boxes.

This cosy little haven is decorated to an extremely high standard and you feel relaxed as soon as you walk through the door. My partner and I had the master bedroom with the huge bed, in the apex of the building and it was gorgeous, The bathroom was stunning and felt more like a 5 star hotel with its decoration.

With all the little extras including freshly cut flowers and Welsh cakes, which were lovely after a long drive, we felt very welcome

It is situated in a tucked away location with lovely grounds and being an amateur photographer I took some beautiful pictures in the grounds.

Lastly, a very special thank you to the owners who responded to a particularly difficult situation with kindness and understanding.

We will definitely be going back, so do not hesitate to book this wonderful place, you will not be disappointed.

Third visit to these amazing cottages. Location perfect for everything the Brecon Beacons has to offer. Cottages are furnished to a very high standard with beautiful little touches, fresh flowers, Luxury toiletries, starter pack, the list goes on. The hosts are friendly and helpful, always on hand if you need them but leave you alone to enjoy your break. Dog friendly and with a large field across the path set up specifically for dog walks. Highly recommend a stay at any of the cottages but have to say The Bothy is our favourite so far.
