We stayed at The Clockhouse from 5–8 June and unfortunately it was the worst holiday rental experience we have had in over five years of staying in rental properties around Midhurst.

The check-in process was unnecessarily difficult. The key collection point was in a separate location from the property and not easy to find, and despite the booking being for two guests, only one set of keys was provided. Given that the building's front door remains locked, this created obvious practical difficulties whenever guests wished to come and go separately.

On arrival, the apartment had all curtains closed and windows shut, and there was a strong musty smell throughout. We immediately opened all windows and curtains and it took several hours before the property felt fresh and welcoming.

When I visited the office to ask about the lack of a second key and the condition of the property, I was repeatedly told that The Clockhouse was "not their department" and was passed between several members of staff, having to explain the same issues multiple times. A cleaner was later sent to the property, but by then the first impression had already been made.

The weather during our stay was cold and wet, yet there were no instructions for operating the electric fireplace prominently mentioned in the property description, and no remote control could be found. As a result, the apartment felt cold and uncomfortable.

The experience was disappointing enough that we decided to cancel a separate two-week booking we had made for later in June. To their credit, Henry Adams did agree to the cancellation, which we appreciated.

The most frustrating part came after checkout. We were initially told that we had left behind a large amount of personal belongings, including a passport, but this was later retracted. We were then informed of additional cleaning charges and alleged damage to a wardrobe lock. We have requested clarification and supporting evidence for these charges.

Overall, the stay was characterised by poor communication, a property that did not feel properly prepared for guests, and an unpleasant dispute over the security deposit. Sadly, we would not stay here again.

Hidden gem in charming town. Well equipped, clean and newly refurbished, with secure parking. There are stairs and some road noise at peak times but otherwise very comfortable. Shame about the reconstruction of the hotel across the road but can’t be helped and I’m sure it will change in coming months.
