Ewen's House, Staffin, is a cosy detached cottage on the Trotternish Peninsula overlooking Staffin Bay and the Quraing. There is a twin and a double bedroom with a family bathroom, a snug lounge and kitchen / diner. It is perfectly located for exploring the Trotternish Peninsula with numerous walks in the area including the Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing and Rubha Hunish, the very tip of the Trotterish Peninsula.

We found Ewen's House to be a great value and excellent out-of-the-way base of operations for exploring the Trotternish area, with just a superb view of the Quiraing right out the front window. But do not make the same mistake I did and overlook the fact that there is no WiFi (if you need WiFi). The property manager(s) are very helpful/responsive to any questions/problems that might arise.

As every year, a perfect stay
The location on the bay is wonderful and the furnishings of the beautiful little house leave nothing to be desired. Delicious fish was prepared more than once. The booking for next year will be prepared soon.

The Bungalow was in an excellent location. We were a bit dissappointed at the decor as it did not feel we were in Scotland.

The house was comfortable and fairly clean, the freezer compartment was sadly needing defrosted as we couldn’t use it. Outside could do with weeding between slabs, and a clean, it would make a difference. It’s a pity that the trees in front of the house are so overgrown that it spoils the beautiful view. We are aware that trees are probably something you have no control over!! We enjoyed our stay and will be back. We have stayed in all 3 cottages over the years!

The view is lovely. The cottage has small bedrooms, living room and kitchen. Suitable for three adults, not four. The WiFi: There is a hub for the connection, but it simply doesn’t work. There were more complaints, but nothing has changed. Further there was much noise coming from the inverter for the solar panels.

Ewans house was in a fantastic location, close to the local shop and beach. The house was well furnished and warm. There was sufficient space to dry clothes after a day out in the snow/rain. The washer/dryer was amazing. There was a cafetiere which is great, because I love real coffee. The bathroom was very quirky with a corner bath spacious enough for 2 children. My husband and I have been many times to Skye, but this is the first time we have seen such spectacular views from a house. Amazing, we even got a glimpse of the Northern Lights. The local shop was very well stocked. There was a perfect wild swimming spot along by Staffin Bay, a group meet on a Sunday at 10am and another just a wee drive out towards Digg at Loch Shiante. A very memorable stay. Thank you Kath :)

We had stayed at Alan’s house before with no issues but were very disappointed with our stay here and left early. Kitchen light not working so had to use lamp from living room. Bathroom window wouldn’t close so had to call out caretaker who sorted it but we were advised to keep it closed meaning no ventilation. In bathroom. Cleanliness poor - dirty in kitchen / floors, crockery not clean, sills and inside drawers not clean. Customer service response also poor. Would not recommend or stay again.

Thank you for taking the time to write this feedback. It is greatly appreciated by everyone and we can assure you that all feedback is taken on board. The kitchen lights went off just before your arrival and we notified you about it, apologised for the inconvenience and arranged for an electrician to go in on Monday to fix it. As you then asked not to be disturbed this was postponed until after your booking. We were not aware of an issue before with the bathroom window, this was the first we heard of it. However, we are pleased to confirm that the owners / caretaker are dealing with it and it will be fixed soon. We have not received any comments regarding the cleanliness at Ewen's House for several years. However, we will contact the housekeeper to ensure standards are maintained. The housekeeper always takes pride in her job and makes sure the house is ready for guests. Please be assured the issues raised are dealt with as quickly as possible. We hope to welcome you back in the future.

Small, basic house in a fabulous location looking out to Staffin Island. Had everything needed.
Only real niggle was the storage heater in the lounge came on overnight and not during the day. This meant it was very warm whilst sleeping and cool when arriving back at the house at the end of the day. There wasn't any instructions to try and alter it other than an explanation that if it was turned off it would take 24 hours to release any heat again.
Plenty of hot water for showers and baths.
Great location and a nice walk down to the dinosaur beach each day which when the tide was out is a good sandy bay.

The view from Ewens House is breathtaking, it is a great base to explore the beautiful Isle of Skye or just to relax and spend a day on the beach which is a short walk away. The house is clean and comfortable and has everything you need, the reasonable price reflects what you can expect, it is not luxurious but if it was you would be paying double the amount. We would definitely recommend staying there and we would definitely stay there again.

Cottage is in the most amazing location, views
across the Quairaing are incredible, and close to the dinosaur beach so ideal for children. We were lucky with the weather so enjoyed beautiful sunsets from the small private terrace. The kitchen is small but plenty of equipment for cooking, just difficult to sit 4 people at the table. A great find for our week on Skye

We chose Ewen's House for its location (specifically the view) and it did not disappoint. It was a very peaceful spot with bird song greeting you as you stepped outside. Looking out of the lounge windows gave us a beautiful panorma of Staffin Bay, Staffin Island and the islands beyond and, most of all, the ever-changing vista of the Quirang (one day/moment seen in all its glory in the sunlight, the next seen shrouded in the mist). The cottage was worth the price for that alone. It would have been even better if the condensation within the double-glazed unit for one of the lounge windows had been dealt with (repaired or replaced).
The accommodation itself was pretty much all that was needed. The double bed (the only one we used) was comfortable, the linen was clean, the lounge sofa and chairs were fine, the kitchen was adequately stocked with appliances and utensils. The absence of a freezer did not matter to us in the end, but might have been a limitation had we been staying longer.
The only disappointment was the noise from the electricity control unit working the solar panels, which clicked loudly at frequent intervals (most noticeably in the early morning). Being sited in the hallway right next to the double bedroom wall meant it was occasionally disturbing at night (very much so on the first night there before we worked out where the noise was coming from).
Despite this, we would still very much recommend the place to others.
The staff at Islands and Highlands Cottages were fantastic. They couldn't have been more helpful.

This cottage is ideal for a quiet stay in a really beautiful part of the Skye. Lots of Skyes superb walks are within touching distance and the staff at Highlands and Islands were fantastic - In particular with the ever changing Covid restrictions and additional helpful advice! There are two shops locally and a Co-op in Portree for anything else you may need. Recommended booking for some breathtaking views (oh and the Quiraing can be viewed from the sitting room window along with Staffin Bay - wow)!

An issue discovered on arrival was dealt with rapidly and satisfactorily which was excellent customer service. The cottage is a very good size for two people with good facilities. It is in an excellent location within easy walking distance of the shop in Staffin and the beach. We consider that it represented good value for money.

We were very happy with the property, which is cosy and well equipped in a fantastic location on Skye, close to many famous landmarks and beauty spots. The view from the front of the cottage is a real pleasure to wake up to each morning. Kitchen had everything we needed and excellent wi fi helped us plan our trips around the island. Very pleased and would book again.

A lovely well appointed bungalow with a fantastic view of the sea and access by short walk to the beach. Not far from the local village shop but would suggest to anyone to stock up before arriving as no pub/bistro with in short drive or walking distance for evening meal.Very peaceful and relaxing break with lots of short or long walks in some awe inspiring locations.
A good place for getting away from the usually busy pace of life.

The Cottage is located at a nice place but is too small for 4 persons (2 adults and 2 teenagers). There is not enough space to handle stuff like wet outdoor jackets and towels, luggage and so on. The nice view cannot help when the table is in the kitchen (looking the nice kitchen combination) and not in the living room. To place a rectangular table in the Living room in front of the window and replacing the old fashioned seating area who is much too big for the small room, would allow equipping the kitchen with a bigger fridge and deepfreeze so that self-Catering for 4 persons is possible. The entrance door should be repaired so that closing the door is possible without turning always the key and the backing oven should be repaired. These measures would help to give the very small rooms a little charm.

So pleased to have found ‘Islands and Highlands’ as this was the best holiday we’ve had on the Isle of Skye over a period of 12 years!
Website information and property gallery is excellent and most informative. The detailed description is highly accurate and the process of booking/paying/receiving relevant documents and receipt etc, was so straightforward. An extremely efficient and friendly team made the transaction ‘a breeze’
Thank you so much, we look forward to booking our next holiday,

Stayed here with my mother and it was the right size for us, especially as it was all ground floor. (Though it would help with accessibility if there was a handrail alongside the steps up to the cottage.) The view of Staffin Bay was wonderful and I wanted to take it home with me. In general, the cottage contained what we needed for a good stay (the heating/solar panels? were a little noisy) and it was clean and welcoming. The location is in the north of the island and took just over an hour from the bridge; day trips out did involve a fair amount of driving to reach some of the attractions, although this wasn't a hardship for us given the beauty of the scenery!

In one word “Awesome”...me, my wife and my son wanted to explore Isle of Skye. We stayed for 4 nights in this beautiful cottage. It was extremely clean, well equipped and situated in a stunning location. We enjoyed every moment of our stay here and will definitely come back! We found little bit difficult to find the cottage but that is because we arrived late in the dark.

We booked the cottage for a 4 day stay to act as a homebase to explore the Isle of Skye. It was a clean cottage that had all the amenities including a dryer. (It rained a lot on our trip). The view from the cottage was great and it was a nice location to explore the northern part of the island. The only negative thing was the beds were too hard for me and my husband. Otherwise it was a grat overall experience.

We stayed at Ewen's House for a week (July 2018) after two previous stays at neighboring Alan's House in 2016-17. It is an excellent home/base from which to experience the Isle of Skye and the Trotternish Peninsula in particular, especially if you enjoy hiking out/about most of the time, like we do. There is so much to see, do and experience on foot from your front door or after just a short drive. And everyone we met was unfailingly helpful and welcoming particularly the housekeeper(s) and Tick, a local Australian Shepherd, who greeted me like a long lost friend and who I look forward to greeting again next year!

We had a really great stay at Ewens House. The service was awesome while the week. We had a little problem with the wifi, because of other costumers and at the same day the very nice housekeepers Steven & Carina visited us and solved the problem. Furthermore we booked directly via islands&highlands cottages and solved up to hundred pounds compared to regular booking sites. We definitely recommend the house and the service. Besides the location is 10 minutes away from the beach, where we were able to enjoy stunning sundowns :)

We loved our first trip to skye and Ewen's cottage was a superb place to stay, giving the opportunity to travel easily in all directions.
Double bed could have been a bit comfier and TV reception not the best and wifi sometimes problematic but all in all it was lovely and we'd go back.

We had a lovely week at Ewen's House. The property is close to the sea so brilliant for watching wildlife and we were lucky enough to see sea eagles, gannets, black throated divers, guillemots and an otter in Staffin Bay. With our family, four people, we were lucky enough to have chosen this cottage in Staffin. The location and the view just fantastic. The cottage itself seemed newly renovated, with a very nice bathroom. There was everything we needed. Even tea and sugar were available. It's all there for a great holiday. We were there with 3 people and the rooms were great. The internet works very well. The only weak points were the noisy noise of the heating and solar system, as well as the defective DVD player.

A good base for exploring

Ewen's house is true to the publicity photos, with a great view across to Staffin Island. It is spotless, compact and comfortable, ideal for a couple or a young family. It provides a good base for exploring Skye, particularly the North and for taking the island at a slower pace. On warm and breezy days, eating out on the terrace is a real pleasure. The caretakers, Steven and Carina, were very helpful when a small fault arose.
Suggestions for improvement: a non-slip bath mat should be provided and it would be helpful if information could be sent in advance about the local shops and the Coop in Portree, particularly for those arriving late after a long journey. Although we approve of the use of solar panels, the heating system tended to wake us up as the sun rose and triggered the system, which was very early in July.,

Beautifull views

We stayed a week in the cozy cottage. Heating was on and working well, although the one in the living room wasn't easy to adjust. We had a lot of good weather and could often use the ouside picnic table and enjoy the fantastic view. We also enjoyed walking to the sea shore. Cooking spaghetti (we are italian) wasn't easy as the pans provided were too small, but we experienced pasta cooking by microwave and that was fine. A weak point was the reception of mobile telephony and the lack of Internet.

Thank you for leaving the review. Great to hear you enjoyed your stay and we will pass your comments onto the owners. Feedback is always appreciated so thank you again! The owners are trying to get internet into the cottage but there have been delays with this. Therefore we don't advertise the facility at the moment. However we hope this will change soon!
