We had such a lovely stay here on skye! Can not wait to come back. Definitely recommend it to anyone visiting.
Above and beyond our expectations. Very well equipped, luxury cottage. Fantastic views, totally recommend
This house was beautiful and very clean. We particularly enjoyed the wonderful view out to the loch, where one evening we watched a pair of white-tailed eagles hunting for an hour. We had everything we needed, including an excellent selection of books and DVDs. We had a lovely and peaceful holiday and enjoyed the friendly welcome from the people of Skye, even during Covid.
Loved our stay at Ben Edra it was perfect for exploring mid and north Skye. The views were stunning.
Stunning property in a stunning location. Spotlessly clean, cosy, really comfortable, brilliantly well-equipped...we've stayed in a lot of self-catering properties and this rates among the best. All this plus a stunning location: Ord is beautiful and so quiet. Fabulous views of the Cuillin and the wildlife was incredible - spent a lovely half hour watching a pair of sea eagles from the cottage, plus saw golden eagles and an otter. Fabulous walking - a perfect week away. Can't recommend MacKinnon highly enough - thank you!
We arrived at our isolation station after a ten hour drive. Every day of our stay was special. The most beautiful accomodation we have ever stayed in. We painted, we photographed, we listened to music, ate amazing locally bought food (the sharing platter we pre ordered from The Fishermans kitchen in Kyle of Lochalsh) was off the scale after a day of wild walking. I found a perfectly intact sea urchin shell on the shoreline at Loch Slapin. Coral beach was stunning and we arrived early enough to have it all to ourselves for an hour. We saw, sea eagles & buzzards daily. As for rainbows, we maxed ...more
The Mill is a beautiful house with lots of character. Absolutely everything we needed was provided and we felt very much at home. The house was warm, It was very clean, there’s lots of space and the showers were great - important after a long day walking! Seamus and Maggie gave us a lovely welcome and were very kind. The location is great. It was lovely to walk down to the shore of the beautiful bay at sunset and look out for the otters and seals. It’s very close to so many beautiful places in Skye including the falls of Rha, the fairy glen, and the Quairang. It made a great base...more
We had just a lovely week at this fabulous cottage. The cottage is so very comfortable and has everything you could ever need while away from home. The location is wonderful and a great base to explore the best Skye has to offer. We would love to come back to this spot and we really didn't want to leave. It's a very special place.
A lovely spot away from everything; fine views and walks from the doorstep Everything needed for a cosy stay in a remote location
Allderburn House was in the perfect location, less than 5 min walk into the centre of Portree. A very well equipped and comfortable house. A perfect base for exploring Skye. Highly recommend.
very enjoyable week in duirnish, scenery spectacular and duirnish lodge and gardens a very nice place to stay
Perfect cottage for a holiday on Skye wood burner was great for a cosy night and very clean and well maintained
This is a great location with beautiful views. Clean and very comfortable, ideal for 2. Super efficient log burner but also great central heating which also supplies plenty for hot water for a great shower. Certainly comes recommended. No WiFi was a major plus for us.
Our second stay at Tidal Cottage was magical again. Wonderful location, views to die for and a very cosy cottage to spend a wonderful Christmas. Tidal Cottage definitely gave us the fantastic festive season we hoped for and we will definitely be back.
We had a nice stay at one mill lands , the house is lovely with beautiful views over uig , a little disappointed with the level of cleaning due to COVID 19 I expected the house to be very deep cleaned but it wasn’t the best standard , the house is well equipped and bathrooms & bedrooms were very nice , could have done with a hot tub as this is top price rental.
We had a fantastic week on Skye. Beautiful house with every home comfort in a stunning location. Highly recommended.
We happened upon this cottage by chance; we were originally only looking for a room with ensuite (but the island was fully booked) and we would absolutely stay here again. The cottage is gorgeous. The kitchen is equipped with everything you might need (except perishables, so do shop before you go); the rooms and bathrooms are spacious and comfortable; the view is unforgettable. The road to get to the cottage is Skye at its best: passing places; sharp turns; cattle grid. The long route will take you past all of the island highlights and gorgeous walks, and you take a stroll down to the sea from...more
Awesome! The Library isa place to go back to. All you can expect from a compassionate owner. Everything we need has been thought of. Thank you so very much. It was a wonderful stay. Thank you for the coffee and the goodies too.
Lovely house, plenty room, remote and peaceful location, beautiful scenery, great walks, quiet roads for biking.. would definitely recommend for a totally relaxing holiday.
A lovely house, spotlessly clean with plenty room for my family of 5 and our dog Esko. The view is amazing and great to watch the sunset. The enclosed garden was perfect for Esko. Very handy with a shop just a 2 minutes walk away and the Falls of Rha not far either. A great base for seeing all the wonderful sites on Skye.
An excellent cottage in superb location but for a late autumn visit the storage heaters (sole heating in living and kitchen area) struggled to provide consistent comfort and was not warm on our arrival. Additionally, Covid restrictions notwithstanding, the cottage is clearly advertised as 2 bedrooms but we found that only one bed had been made up. This did not affect us but it is not reasonable to assume that all 2 person bookings always wish to share a bed.
It's a traditional cottage which has been extended and sensibly modernised, with furniture which is comfortable. The hosts are nice friendly people who can't do to much for you and keep things very clean and tidy. It's not a modern white box, it's far better than that! The sun room on one end is hopeless for reading, you just spend your time gazing at the views across towards the islands and onto the McClouds tables on the next Skye peninsula. 2 minutes from the beach. Even the broadband works properly! We will return
very enjoyable stay if you want remote this is the place to go to. the two feral cats are always looking for food so you get a big welcome when you return after a day out.
A beautifully presented home with lovely facilities and views, and local walks. Not the house for you if you aren't a fan of single track roads, however! Very warm and cosy.
Fantastic cottage. We had 6 guys in here for a week doing some mountaineering up on the Cuillin Hills. It is a really nice place, we are repeat customers from the year previous. 1 - The shower is weak, not what you want after a day on the hill. 2 - I would like a number so that I could inform the owners that I was leaving a day early, this would doubtless help them and make me feel happier about leaving the key in the agreed place but hardly secure. That is all I can think to drip about, we will book in next year.
The Steading was a fabulous holiday home. The views were amazing - super sunsets most evenings. The kitchen and house was extremely well equipped and the location was perfect to see everything we needed
Kilmartin cottage is a wonderful place to stay, the location for us was perfect, around 30 mins by car from Portree, 15 mins by car from the Old Man of Storr, and literally a 10 minute walk to the Beach with the Dinosaur footprints, which we were lucky to see. There are also some really nice walks close by, we also took a drive to explore the north of Skye. The cottage itself is spacious, with all appliances that you could need, the beds are comfortable and overall furnishing was to a high standard. The best part though, standing outside and taking in the view from your doorstep, looking out...more
This is a large cottage that is in excellent condition - fantastic facilities and three bathrooms with loads of hot water which was great in the middle of winter! A lovely welcome pack when we arrived with loads of information about Skye. Couldn't fault the accommodation. Have only given good for VFM because accommodation in Skye is very expensive at New Year - not so much a comment on this house as the costs generally.
We were overwhelmed with this lovely house. The location was perfect. Not on a main road but about a mile down a winding country lane. Overlooking the loch so wonderful views whichever room you were in. The weather was perfect during our stay apart from one wet day which we didn’t mind as we spent the day relaxing in the comfortable lounge. The house is very spacious light and warm. The huge skylights in the bedrooms and upstairs landing let in so much light so we didn’t use the blinds provided. All we could hear were the birds in the night. Everywhere was spotless and we had everything we cou...more
The house is in a lovely location & is ideal for a family get away, the children loved exploring the house & gardens. I would highly recommend it.
Awesome place to stay! Would return. Great location. Cosy and clean. Lots of space to enjoy with the family and beautiful views from the windows.
A very bright and airy cottage with beautiful views. Huge private garden and easy access for vehicles. Inside, the cottage is very comfortable and spacious, the pictures on the website really don't do it justice. Clean and modern with high quality furniture and accessories. This part of the Island isn't as busy with tourists so the peace and quiet is welcome yet, it's an easy drive to most of the northern parts parts of Skye as well as Portree itself (if you really must go there!).
Great house. Very comfortable and very well equipped. A fabulous location right on the loch shore and five minutes stroll into Portree. A fantastc base for exploring Skye. Highly recommended.
Really enjoyed our stay. The information prior to the stay was excellent. The house was well presented, well kitted out and the location very peaceful. Close to Dunvegan for shops etc and lots of other beautiful spots.
Fantastic cottage in a great location. With a view to die for.We had a fantastic week at four winds the weather was not great good job we took our waterproofs. Would love to return to this cottage some day .Our lab Torren loved the Garden. Thanks.
One of the best self catering accommodations we have ever stayed in. Exceptionally well equipped with everything in it you could possibly need. It’s situated in the most idyllic of locations and a perfect base to explore the north of Skye. Would definitely recommend.
This cottage is in a quiet setting with beautiful views yet only a few miles from main town of Portree. The cottage is spacious with the exception of the shower room, which could do with some shelving. That apart we were really comfortable there. The wifi connection was good although internet connection was patchy whilst driving around Skye. The cottage had a tv and DVD player, which kept the children happy. We would certainly use this cottage again
This property in an excellent location - well placed for discovering the area. It is very well equipped and the hosts are very friendly.
We have had a lovely week's stay at The OldByreSkye Apartment. We would highly recommend the hosts who provided a home from home and very unexpected and much appreciated welcome goodies of a bottle of wine, freshly baked bread, milk, chocolate tea cakes, cheese and crackers. The apartment was very well kitted out and a great base to explore The Isle of Skye.
Nice quiet property in owner's back garden though we never actually met. Very well equipped and comfortable with wood burning stove (firewood supplied) and underfloor heating. Great shower too. Nice view through the shrubs at end of garden to the Loch and hills. Plenty of parking. About 20 minute's walk from centre of Portree, it's a really good base from which to drive to all points on the island and enjoy the walks and majestic scenery. Plenty of good places to eat in Portree but kitchen also v well equipped for cooking at home. If you like fish there is a fantastic but slightly hard to find...more
Lovely cosy warm cottage with safe enclosed garden. Fantastic views - good local shop and places to eat. Great base for exploring the northern areas of Skye.
We had a fantastic stay in this warm and cosy cottage which was equipped with everything we needed. Lovely quiet location overlooking Staffin Bay, with just the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks at night. Well equipped shop and great takeaway within walking distance. Well placed to visit the main attractions on the beautiful island of Skye
Excellent hoasts: had a lovely stay at Glamaig cottage, and would recommend it as Portree is a great place to visit.
Tigh Anndra is a cosy, well equipped cottage in a stunning location in the North of the Isle of Skye. It contained everything we needed for our stay including some bits and pieces that we had forgotten such as foil and olive oil. We mostly didn't need any heating but, when we did, the towel rails in the bathroom provided enough warmth for the whole cottage. In saying that, the owner Angus had provided enough chopped wood for the wood burning stove to see us through the week if it had been cold. If there had been any problems, Angus only lives a short distance away and made a point of calling i...more
Upon arrival found signage different to address on email ,( sorleys cottage may have been in Gaelic) so had to look through windows for signs of occupancy, which could have been awkward. Upon finding the right cottage we were welcomed with a strange musty smell and there was no Covid precautions at all plus other guests food left in cupboard which in this day and age isn’t really acceptable. The sofas in the front room Had rips in each of them so may be time to update them . All in all a great location but needs a lot of updating and Covid measures( ie sanitizer points) put in place , a...more
Very nice self catering accommodation. Silent, though in near of the main street. Great view out of the sitting room windows! Near to the center, where all the bars are ;-) The lock of one toilet doors was broken, but this was not a show stopper. Eventually my wife could escape ;-)
Needs some attention: hot water tap in kitchen is leaking: no light above the cooker: some chipped mugs. Minor points but need dealt with imo.
We loved our 3rd visit to the Isle of Skye, Quiraing cottage is a great base, we enjoyed fishing off Staffin harbour, the beautiful sunrise and lots of exploring, the cottage itself is very homely and comfortable, a big thank you to our host's who were very welcoming.
This cottage is ideal for a quiet stay in a really beautiful part of the Skye. Lots of Skyes superb walks are within touching distance and the staff at Highlands and Islands were fantastic - In particular with the ever changing Covid restrictions and additional helpful advice! There are two shops locally and a Co-op in Portree for anything else you may need. Recommended booking for some breathtaking views (oh and the Quiraing can be viewed from the sitting room window along with Staffin Bay - wow)!
Place is good, good location, near to portree. Would stay again. Was staying for work, and had good phone signal
Large Windows allowed every time a beautiful View to the Ocean and the islands. The Skyskins and the the Cafe nearby is a must see. The old school house in Dunvegan is a perfect Place for Lunch and Dinner
David was a most pleasant host. There if you needed him but never intrusive, The accommodation was lovely. An ideal base from which to explore the island. Clean, tidy and comfortable. The fridge is small so don't arrive with masses of chilled goods, this was not an issue for us because despite going self-catering , we never do. It was big enough to keep the cider chilled. We will not quickly forget the ' post card picture ' view from the lounge window.
House is in a fantastic location, right on loch with the Cullin mountains behind it. Lovely conservatory to sit and look out on loch. Spacious house with comfortable beds and good towels. We had to clean kitchen worktops and wash out fridge before we could use them. The small freezer was thick with ice so we could not use it. It was disappointing to be faced with these problems on arrival after a long journey. Great care needs to be taken when exiting the driveway on to the road.
We had a lovely week in this beautifully positioned home. It is located in a fairly isolated position but exactly what we were looking for. The house is well equipped and comfortable and has plenty of space for a larger family. The bonus for us was that we could have our dog with us who loved all the local walks. We spent each day exploring the local area and enjoyed many long walks. We even had the amazing pleasure of seeing whales out off the headland.
We enjoyed our week in Skye very much, helped by the, mainly, wonderful weather. 8 Kildonan is in a great spot, elevated and commanding an excellent view of Loch Greshornish. It is well situated for getting around the north of Skye with Portree 15 mins away. The staff at the Islands and Highlands office were always really helpful. The house itself was fine, it had everything we needed. We spent most of our time, when indoors, in the sunroom overlooking the loch. That room had the view and, crucially, sunlight. The other rooms tended to be dull. The main sitting room in particular was very da...more
The flat is a well proportioned self-catering option for travellers to Skye. The assigned parking was very much an asset for the property given the lack of parking in Portree in general. The kitchen is decently equipped for making basic meals like breakfast/fry up, and for heating up ready meals from the local coop. Not sure whether it's a Covid restriction or not, but the staples for the kitchen were not present (i.e. no tin foil, no salt, pepper, oil, etc.) The main problem we had was with the hot water. There were two days with cold showers, and when the hot water was on, it was dangerously...more
The house is lovely and has all of the amenities that we required for our stay. We loved sitting on the sofa looking out to the sea. The house is quote remote so it is great that the kitchen is so well equipped to cook all the meals we wanted. The bedrooms were lovely. However, we would have preferred super king size duvets rather than singles. We loved the underfloor heating but we felt that the house lacked a warm space to dry out wet clothes after a day out walking in the rain.
Glenview cottage is in a nice elevated location with a lovely view looking down over the bay and pier, which is a short walk down the hill. The cottage is well equiped and is in easy reach of most of Skye's attractions. Fairy glen is a nice walk there and back; leave that car behind! That means you can drop in to the Uig Hotel for a pint on the way back. Wifi would be nice, but I would recommend Glenview Cottage.
I booked this cottage almost last-minute for a stay on the Isle of Skye, about a week before I set off, and have no regrets about it. I was alone and so although the cottage is small (it has enough beds for five people, but I would personally recommend it for a party of two or three at most) it didn't feel cramped for me. It was clean and comfortable, with everything - bed linen, cutlery, soaps, bin liners etc. - supplied except for food and towels. The remote location is nevertheless well-suited for exploring the island, being only a short and scenic drive away from the main road through Broa...more
Given inclement weather, the cottage in Portree was a clean, cosy, functional and excellent walking holiday base, especially with the limitations imposed by Covid-19. Portree is well located for accessing the northern part of the Isle of Skye and the Cuillin Hills by car, and well served for self-catering purposes. The off-road parking at the property was most welcome.
We had a fantastic week at this cottage, the space was perfect for us, plenty of room for us to enjoy our Christmas break with our dogs :) the garden is great, nice and large and the dogs spent plenty of time running around whatever the weather. The cottage was lovely and warm, had all sorts of kitchen accessories but our favourite spot was curled up in front of the large windows with a cuppa watching the weather. The views are magnificent. We felt completely at home and were very sad to leave! We can't wait to book again:)
Tigh na Dalach feels very much a family home. Cosy, warm and comfortable with a great family kitchen. Lovely views from the garden over the loch. The cottage contains everything you need for your holiday. The parking spaces behind the cottage seemed to be used by residents, but we managed to park nearby with no problem. This was our second time in this cottage and we would return again without hesitation. Plockton and the surrounding areas are unbeatable. If you want peace, quiet and space but the convenience of nearby pubs, takeaway etc it is perfect. The location is simply beautiful.
Our stay at the Loch Mealt View was just amazing. The location was simply amazing. It was so serene and calm. The morning view from the cottage is something to behold. The cottage was spotless and the comfort level was unparalleled. Loved the beds as they were so comfy. As far as the cottage owners are concerned, I have to give them a special mention here as they have been amazing hosts. We reported a couple of minor issues one with a WiFi, a duvet cover that had a rip and a broken plate - the agents who look after the property reported it to the cottage owner and within an hour I got an email...more
The Old School is a lovely cottage . The situation is perfect : right on the loch shore in a quiet setting. The house is decorated and furnished to a high standard. It has a bright homely feel. Two things would have improved our visit : the kitchen was missing a colander A gate giving access onto the beach would be the ultimate! A great cottage . Certainly recommend. Skye is just brilliant, but don’t tell too many people !
historical and querky. The garden provided a wonderful view across the loch and a short walk away was the pretty harbour of Elgol. A great base for exploring magical Skye.
This is a lovely cottage with a great location for the south of the island and not to mention getting back to the mainland for the likes of Plockton and Applecross (via the "pass" is amazing!!). It's very compact internally but most of the time is out and about. The thing that let this cottage down for us was the cleanliness, especially in the likes of the kitchen. Granted 5 star luxury and cleanliness isn't expected but neither is having to almost spring clean the kitchen before using it or the items within. Shame really.
We had a great stay in a sunny October school holiday. Central area to explore the whole island, the house has an idyllic old-fashioned feel and the log burner is great. The only grip we had was the internet very poor which then effects the Freeview. Max download speeds when it was working was 2.5 mbps upload was 0.5 mbps, but fortunately we weren’t there to watch TV and browse the internet. Nice short walk along the shingle cost. Ooh and the fridge freezer is half size a full size fridge freezer would be best for a family of 4 we did struggle a bit
Beautiful, cosy house and fabulous location. Great for quiet and peaceful getaways. Definitely returning!
Warm, comfortable and good location, let down by bathrooms which need upgrading and scruffy areas. For the money this apartment is overpriced compared to other cottages and apartments I have stayed in.
I have stayed many times at the Stationmaster's House but this is the first privately. Good accommodation and location.
The apartment is very well maintained with all the necessary equipments to make the stay even more comfortable.
We were very pleased with the accommodation and the fittings. The cottage is easy to manage and convenient for a pleasant shore and for a short drive in to Portree. It is a place of great calm. It would be nice for the outside "garden" to mirror the standard of the inside of the house but you can't have everything! We will book again.
Great location. Good size house, lovely garden and view. They have considered Covid safety measures well. We wouldn’t stay again because the property needs updating to make it really comfortable. The kitchen especially. There was a hint of a fishy smell that I couldn’t get rid of (possibly left over from previous occupiers?) and there were also rodents living in the bedroom wall. They had anti-rodent plug ins in the house, so the rodents must not be a new problem. They didn’t leave the walls as far as we could tell but did give us a bit of a fright the first night! Skye is a very expensive pla...more
A one week stay in a traditional cottage it was what we expected Fires in each room which you could light at your leisure, we used the lounge fire, Wood was supplied, I took my own kindling and newspapers We ate in a few times and found the kitchen well stocked with utensils There are no basics for cooking but during these times we expected this We chose it for location to visit specific areas of Skye and also used 2 nearby restaurants Edinbane Inn and Lodge, both of which are quite a hike away About 100 yards away a neighbour sells fresh eggs which were fantastic
Luib seemed to us to be an ideal location on the island as it is mid-way between Portree and Kyleakin and easy to get to Broadford for basics (although finding a butcher on Skye is like a needle in a haystack!) When we walked in to the cottage we were really impressed! After reading some negative comments we had bought our own bedding- not required! The linen and bedding provided was totally fine. The place was clean. The layout is good, especially the kitchen and bedrooms. We were so pleased with the cottage that we were totally prepared to overlook some negative points. These include a...more
We enjoyed a wonderful week at Allt Slapin. Arriving in torrential rain, we got the windows closed and got the house warmed up with the efficient electric heating. The kitchen is well kitted out which was a bonus in these Covid-19 times as we only ate out once (at The Oyster Shed). The beds are comfortable and there was plenty of hot water for baths and showers. It has been 25 years since we were last in Torrin and much has changed, but the views remain spectacular with Allt Slappin having a front row seat. The house is a little tired in places but then that is reflected in the rental price. O...more
10 Torrin is a lovely cosy cottage in a great location! The cottage is a 5-10 minute walk to Loch Slapin and fabulous views of Blaven. The cottage is well equipped and lovely and warm. We had everything we needed including extra blankets (and electric blankets if we’d needed them.) Six of us stayed and we paid extra to use the Byre (which meant we had two toilets and showers). There was a big table for eating and for evenings playing games. The cottage has good Wi-fi (two of our party taught virtual music lessons during our stay!). There was Sky TV (repaired during our stay as it hadn’t b...more
LOCATION: The cottage is quite removed and isolated from any nearby city and tourists. However, it is near to the Skye Skins sheep-wool production shop, Skye's oldest pub The Stein Inn, and Diver's Eye boat tours - all of which are lovely and recommended. The drive to the cottage from the main road is single-track and took us about ten minutes to get through any time we wanted to go anywhere. This was alright for us, as we appreciated the benefit of being removed from main traffic more than we were put off by how long it took to get anywhere. The drive to Portree is about 50 minutes (don't let...more
I’ll start with the positives, the views and location of the cottage are brilliant and would be hard to beat, sadly that is all that is good about the place. It’s extremely tired and worn, to the point that parts of the bathroom and kitchen are disgusting. The furniture is ripped and the carpets and walls are in need of a refurb. Finally, the standard of cleaning was rather shocking, especially in the current covid climate, which forced us to eat out due to the state of the cooking utensils in the cupboards. Not worth a fraction of the £200 per night price paid and left feeling totally robbed.
