Taobh na Mara, Kensaleyre is a wonderful holiday home on the shores of Loch Snizort. Just a 15 minute drive from Portree, Taobh na Mara makes a great base for exploring the Isle of Skye.

Had a lovely 5 days at Taobh na Mara with my 3 kids aged from 6 to teens. The cottage was just as described - even better than the photos. Newly refurbished and perfectly clean. We appreciated the washer and tumble dryer and Nespresso machine. The location is brilliant - not in town but close enough to get supplies easily and reach a lot of the sights within about half an hour - we visited the Fairy Glen, Old Man of Storr, Fairy Pools (a bit further, around 45 mins). The loch views are very peaceful in the morning and evening and it’s wonderfully quiet.

Great accommodation, well equipped, ever changing views as the tide gentle comes in and out. Good location for exploring the north of Skye and easy access to Portree and a large Coop. Would happily return.

Our family of four wish we'd had a longer stay at this lovely cottage. It had plenty of space for us to spread out when we were kept inside by rain and wind, and also had a great view of the loch, where we watched the tide come in and out and the sheep dotting the hills on the other side. The kitchen was fairly well-equipped for our cooking and cleaning needs. I was also very glad to have a washer and dryer since we'd been traveling for more than a week. The only problem was that the dryer didn't seem to do much drying. Perhaps there was a trick that I didn't get?

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this wonderfully quiet, immaculately clean, and comfortably appointed cottage. Watching the ebb and flow of the Loch was such a peaceful way to begin and end each day, and the location was convenient to all of the places we wanted to explore in between. We would not hesitate to book again.

We, being a family of four, were really pleased when we arrived. The home is around 110m2, so bigger than it appears in the photos. We became quite attached to the neighbouring sheep who greeting us each time we left or arrived. The only slight word of warning is the drive. It is steep and though surfaced, it has plenty of mud tracking over it. Felt like an Apollo astronaut preparing for lift off. We were always pleased to make it up and out! But this isn’t a ‘moany’ review. Really enjoyed the home. The view of the loch is great - especially when the tide is in. And the home is cosy and comfortable. Our nine year old took charge of the wood burner and didn’t fall in once. All in all a thumbs up and a very positive recommendation :)

The house lived up to expectations and photos are very accurate. We loved this cottage and it’s location. Easy to explore all of Skye and not too far from facilities at Portree . I would love to come back and spend time here again

The cottage was very welcoming and warm after a long drive on a cold and wet June day. It has great views and is well positioned to explore the Isle of Skye. It is a lovely, comfortable cottage to return to after a day out. The kitchen is well equipped, everywhere was very clean and we had a great week.

An excellent cottage in superb location but for a late autumn visit the storage heaters (sole heating in living and kitchen area) struggled to provide consistent comfort and was not warm on our arrival. Additionally, Covid restrictions notwithstanding, the cottage is clearly advertised as 2 bedrooms but we found that only one bed had been made up. This did not affect us but it is not reasonable to assume that all 2 person bookings always wish to share a bed.

We visit Scotland and the Isle of Skye since many years and Taobh na Mara was by far the best Cottage we ever stayed. Everything was perfect!

My husband and I stayed here for a week and did not want to leave!
The cottage is homely but stylish and has the most fantastic, ever changing views across the loch.
On the last day we were even treated to the view of two seals chasing fish. This place really is magical, we felt as if we were the only people for miles when it’s really very well located just off the main road to Uig.
My only very slight criticism is on the last night that very main road was dug up between 7pm and 7am which did keep us awake. It may have just been diligent for someone to forewarn us, it was a bit of a surprise. We late found out the roadworks were due to carry on for another week.

The cottage is detached over looking the loch .It is a quiet peaceful location with picture postcard views and occasional visitors who kept us amused ( sheep)
It is an ideal for two couples / friends sharing as two equal size bedrooms and both have ensuites.Beds are very comfortable.
Added bonus of downstairs toilet.
Thoughtfully and tastefully planned accommodation.Well stocked kitchen with cooking utensils and washing machine,dishwasher and tumble dryer.
Internet signal is excellent.
TV has Netflix and Now Tv / amazon prime.
It feels and looks as if it is new and luxurious.A lovely place to chill and escape and enjoy your own company.
Ideal location to travel around and see the island and highlands
We had a wonderful time.

We have visited Skye before. It is a well worn path, but have not enjoyed our stay so much as at Taob na Mara. The view is stunning, the accommodation clean, comfortable and stylish, with lots of small and well considered touches. What a great place to unwind. We will be back as soon as possible. Excellent property, excellent location, close to Portree and for exploring the Island. The property had everything we needed for our stay with maps and books available also , as a frequent visitor to Skye I can honestly say that this is the best accommodation we have used , looking forward to coming back already.
