Joan's House, Tarskavaig is a newly built detached holiday home. Located in an elevated position with tremendous views over the Atlantic Ocean to Rum, it is the ideal cottage to relax and watch the world go by! Tarskavaig is on the Sleat peninsula in the South of Skye. Within a 15 min drive you have Armadale Castle and Grounds, Toravaig Distillery and the ferry to Mallaig as well as lovely walks in the area.

We were 2 couples staying for a week with our little dog. Both couples have experience of booking a stay in this type of property and have often been disappointed. In Joan's House we definitely weren't. To say the final single track road is a challenging drive for people that are not used to such roads would be an understatement, but it was soooooo worth it. As soon as we arrived, we were impressed not only with the quality of the property but the stunning views. Yes, we had looked carefully at the photos on line but our experience of previous bookings is that the owner tends to show only good images and on arrival, the reality is somewhat different. Joan's house was much better than the images portrayed, so much so that we were constantly praising the cleanliness, how well the house has been built and maintained and how well it has been appointed with the quality and range of kitchen equipment especially noteworthy.

The Isle of Sky (our first time there) needs no added plaudits, but staying in such a remote place as Tarskavaig added that little bit more magic. We were blessed with a week of almost wall to wall sunshine too. For prospective hirerers, the Sleat peninsular has many, many things to offer and should be explored rather than staying in the more populace areas like Portree, although a trip there is not to be missed.

Thank you Joan for providing such a fab property - and your great niece that works in Kinloch Lodge is delightful.

We had a wonderful stay at Joan’s House. The location is perfect for a complete change of scenery, with breathtaking views all around. The house is very well equipped, spacious, and ideal for two families. We honestly couldn’t have wished for a better place. Highly recommended!

This was our first trip to Skye and what an amazing place to stay. The property is absolutely lovely and the view over Rum is just stunning. The property is well appointed with everything you could need and has full streaming access for collapsing on the couch at the end of the day.

The property was clean on arrival which is very important to me.

The roads too and from the property are single track and intimidating the first time but once used to them they are totally worth it. Our stay wasn’t long enough.

Only thing to be aware of is the heating / water system hums quite loudly particularly in the downstairs bedroom. Ear plugs are recommended. Part of the reason it’s so easily heard though is that there is no other outside noise at all apart from the occasional bird or sheep. Bliss!

This is an absolutely beautiful house, spotlessly clean and has everything you need to make your stay comfortable. The view from the breakfast table is amazing and whilst we didn’t get the weather to truly appreciate it, the scenery around is amazing. Within walking distance to a good beach and a brilliant little community cafe.

A perfect house in a beautiful neighborhood. Very quiet and a bit distant but for us an excellent location.

This is a wonderful cottage with great views across to Rum. Clean, bright, warm and comfortable. It is well equipped the only thing we found missing is a teapot! Plenty of parking and a garden to sit out and look at those views. The cottage is just a short walk to the beach and a very short drive to plenty of others in both directions. We took boots bikes and Kayaks found plenty to do locally. We all recommend it to anyone especially if you'd like to immerse yourself in this beautiful part of Skye

Lovely new house in splendid position overlooking Rum and near coast with lovely coves. Pretty well equipped but a large ceramic oven (casserole) dish would have been useful. Instructions on finding house could have been clearer. Hi tec movement sensors for switching lights on not a success. Loads pf hot water and excellent showers. Would certainly book the house again.

We all enjoyed our stay although my disabled son was in a panic when all the electricity went off when we were in bed. It did come back on after a short while though. We were invited by a farmer to come and watch the sheep shearing and we enjoyed that immensely. Unfortunately the long walks we imagined with the dog wasn't able to happen because we were surrounded by sheep.

A modern croft in beautiful location with lovely views. Sparsely, but adequately, furnished. No frills!
