The Cake House at High Barn offers the height of luxury in a tranquil, secluded setting, sleeping up to four in two en-suite bedrooms. The Cake House is a ground floor cottage. One of the en-suites is a wet room and is suitable for those with somewhat limited mobility. Spacious, modern, totally comfortable and appointed to the highest standard, Generous complementary Yorkshire Produce hamper showcasing the best of our local food producers

Heritage Escapes is in the perfect position for a trip to the Yorkshire Coast. Go towards the model village at Sewerby and you will find a large car park , not the model village one! It is a pay and display car park but you can stay all day. You are then on Sewerby Head a delightful grassed Headland with a tarmac path where you can catch the small land train, when in season! Or you can stroll down to Bridlinton. It is approx. 1 and a half miles away! check for yourself! Once in Bridlington there is a path along the promenade. The view from The Headland is beautiful! Go to the Spa which is further along from the harbour. You will find the cafe which has a quite small menu but the cakes and scones are fantastic plus the soup and sandwiches, Well worth a visit. The promenade beyond the Spa is worth a visit another smooth path. The walks are fully wheelchair friendly and there are accessible toilets along the path. You can easily visit Scarborough, Whitby and other areas from your accommodation The family are helpful if needed and they are honest and kind.

Our 3rd stay at the beautiful Cake House. We returned with our elderly parents knowing that this first class modern mobility graded property would suit. Everything anyone would ever want for a comfortable break away from home. 10mins away in any direction for a lovely meal out. As always watching the owl cam was a delight. Thankyou once again all at HBC Cake House

We loved our holiday at the Cake House. A very peaceful place to stay and we especially liked the Barn Owl Cam and we even managed to one of them hunting at night!
The house was really clean and had everything you needed! Also the beds were extremely comfy!

If you want a quiet location within easy reach of the coast. This is the perfect spot for you. There is a convenient Co-op just down the road. Perfect if you run out of provisions! The property is like all the properties perfectly clean so no worries there. The hamper is very generous with quality produce. I found the sofa difficult to stand up from and noted this had already been commented on. My husband found it to be fine. I have mobility issues though! so this may not be a general problem in fairness. The beds are very comfortable. I promise you will not find better owners who care about your comfort and experience. The price we paid throughout August could not be matched for the same quality and we did look!!!

This is a lovely, beautifully furnished cottage in a lovely location. We had a great week here in August 2024 and especially enjoyed watching the beautiful barn owls on the web cam. This is a truly luxurious and very special place!

The Cake House proved to be every bit as lovely as we thought it would be and Angela and John are excellent hosts, attentive and on the ball in every way. We would highly recommend this group of cottages as splendidly located for visits to Bempton RSPB and Flamborough Head and the addition of the spy camera relaying live-video to the TVs from the nearby Barn Owl box proved an absolute joy and fascination. We were hooked! Delightful to be able to see the Barn Owl pair taking turns on their "nest" with two eggs and two lively chicks. Birdlife on the coast was terrific and lots of seals too. Cottage beds were very comfortable with first class lovely quality sheets, everything worked well and the cottage was well equipped and modern, clean and welcoming. Welcome pack was excellent. A return visit to The Cake House, that says everything. Accommodation is very well laid out with everything you could want for a really comfy stay whatever the weather. Ideally located for the areas attractions but set in private grounds.

This was our fourth visit to the Cake House. We love it. We are members of RSPB and it is in the perfect place for visits to RSPB Bempton Cliffs. The webcam of a Barn Owl in the roof is an added bonus.

The Cake House provides a wonderful view across the fields to sight various birds, hares and the beautiful big skies. Lovely comfortable accommodation with a well equipped kitchen an generous welcome pack (including locally produced muesli, apple juice and chocolates).
Just a few minutes by car to Flamborough Head for the cliff top walks, quarter of an hour to Filey, ten minutes to Bridlington.
Walk from the door to Bempton cliffs and the RSPB centre.
As you can probably deduce, we really enjoyed staying here! It's a great location, very peaceful but close to a variety of attractions.
Definitely intend to return.

As usual our stay was very pleasurable but the weather everywhere did curtail our excursions. Hoping when we come back again at Easter spring weather will be much improved. Hopefully the owls will have returned.

The only thing I would say is that the radiator in the bathroom makes it a bit warm in the summer.
Have never worked out if that can be turned down / off ?

We had a wonderful weekend in The Cake House, the property was adorable and in such good condition, we had everything we required to have a superb time from beautiful countryside, comfortable accomodation where we felt at home immediately and peaceful environment. We had a lovely stay in the Cake house. Everything was first class and the welcome hamper was well stocked including a nice bottle of apple juice.
We all enjoyed watching the barn owl on the web cam and the other wildlife in the area.
The bedroom with wetroom was ideal for my parents with slight mobility issues .
We look forward to a return visit.

Another wonderful stay at the cake house. I would recommend High Barn to anyone for a relaxing holiday in the countryside it is lovely to wake and see and hear all the birds in the morning. We were lucky to see the owl chicks which had just been hatched they return every year to stay on the farm. We will be back next year. Accommodation is fabulous with everything that you need.

Once again, the Cake House and the area do not disappoint for a relaxing stay and a little bit of home from home luxury. The facilities are excellent and the surrounding area is as beautiful as ever. The settees were a little too soft for Mum but the higher chair and foot stool really did help with her mobility issues.

We hope to be back soon.

We have stayed at High Barn numerous times and it never disappoints. The cottage is delightful, beautifully furnished and comfortable and the hosts are great, nothing is too much trouble.

Our stay at the Cake House was hassle free from the start to completion the location was perfect very quiet area but not to far from all the main attractions and walks along the coastal path.The cottage was marvellous with all the amenities you would require to have a comfortable stay all modern amenities including a large walk-in wet room.The cottage was spotlessly clean and the garden areas well kept with a security gate to enter the property would definitely recommend the Heritage Estates and will return very soon

This was our second visit to High Barns, previously staying in The Hayloft.
We very much appreciate the high standards, location and child and pet-free environment. So peaceful!
We have given the highest score for all but one of the categories. The only reason we marked down on comfort is because the glazed door between the bedroom and en-suite bathroom allows too much light into the bedroom at sunrise. When we were staying the bedroom was filled with light at 5.00am! I know we were lucky to have lovely, sunny weather, but being woken so early is not at all relaxing. Much as we appreciated the Cake House having sun all day, this would put me off staying in this particular property again. It only needs either a non-glazed door or a blackout blind on the door to remedy this problem.
If this could be resolved, we would have no hesitation in staying in the Cake House again - although The Hayloft is still our favourite.

Thank you for your comprehensive review. We appreciate the type of feedback given, as it allows us to improve certain features the weren't considered when the building was converted. Personally, a light infused bedroom wouldn't disturb my sleep, but John is like you and likes a blackout blind. We'll fit one when there is a suitable gap in bookings.

I have nothing but praise for our experience of staying at The Cake House; from the initial booking through to departure, everything was done to an excellent standard. The attention to detail within the property and the little quirks eg 'Owl TV', meant we had a lovely and unique break (despite some very challenging weather conditions). The bathroom facilities for my father, who has very restricted mobility, meant that he could remain independent whilst also sharing the communal area of the accommodation without any issues. All in all, we had a fab time and wish to thank our hosts - we will definitely be looking to book again in the future.
PS. It's the first holiday let that has a set of decent sharp knives - a personal bugbear of mine!

Right from the time of booking when we had to change the dates due to unexpected work commitments, the service was excellent, friendly and helpful. It was lovely to be greeted by Angela who provided lots of information about the property. We had a lovely break, the property exceeded our expectations. It was clean, comfortable and so cosy with the log burner and complimentary logs. We didn’t need for anything as it was so well equipped with a comprehensive welcome basket. Bridlington and Filey were easy to get to. We didn’t venture too far due to the storm and snow. We would love to return when the weather is better to explore the area further.
An excellent property and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others.

We have stayed at High Barn cottages numerous times and this time meet all our expectations once again.
The cottage is beautifully presented, is well equipped and very comfortable. The open plan kitchen, diner, lounge is perfectly sociable and the en suite bedrooms provide perfect private spaces. The eco focus is great. We love the local area with so many places accessible on foot and by car. The location of the cottages is peaceful and so restful.
The owners live down the road and are wonderful friendly and welcoming hosts. We had no need to query anything this visit but when we have in the past they have been brilliantly responsive.

As always, the Cake House is a tranquil home from home. I have many memories of past stays here with my wife. The location is excellent, 10 minutes from the Bempton train station, a gentle hours walk into Bridlington via the cliffs. Great place run by very nice people.

The Cake House is the best cottage we have ever stayed in. It is beautifully designed and fitted out to a very high standard. The owners are very helpful and the area is wonderful for walking, especially along the nearby Bempton Cliffs. We shall definitely return.

We have an electric car and this group of properties is provided with a proper recharging point at a very reasonable extra charge.

A thoroughly enjoyable first visit to High Barn and The Cake House although we have previously stayed at Field House Farm. Everything we expected for a peaceful and restful long weekend break. Unfortunately missed the Owls but were rewarded with visits from hares , rabbits and pheasants. We will most certainly return in the future.

The Cake House was beautifully clean and very well equipped .A gorgeous welcome basket with coffee , tea bags , wine , biscuits and artisan bread ... What a lovely treat . We also found milk and butter in the fridge Comfortable sofas and luxury beds . The cleaning procedures were very reassuring and we felt safe . Everything really well thought out and lots of cleaning products available . Great idea ... the remotes were in plastic sleeves . Our patio looked out onto open fields which was so relaxing and peaceful. It was so good to know that the farm renovations had been done in such a way as to enable the resident barn owls to stay and the barn owl TV Chanel was a real bonus.
The location was perfect for accessing RSPB Bempton and the fabulous cliff path walks . It was only a short drive to Flamborough and Bridlington .
It was also good to find that we could charge our hybrid SUV at the site.
We would definitely recommend and will be booking again .

This is our 6th visit to high barn....both in the summer and for Christmas. The fact that we keep coming back says it all!
The property is spotless, comfortable, warm and cosy. It is well equipped in every way and the layout means that there is plenty of ventilation opportunities too. Lovely walks by the sea to blow away the cobwebs!
Great hospitality once again.

High Barn cottages are in a different class to other self catering cottages. Every detail has been thought of to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The property is very clean, and all the fixtures and fittings are A1 - nothing looks tired or tatty.
Watching the owlets on Owl TV is the icing on the cake too!

Our first visit to East Yorkshire and we were not disappointed. Lovely area and very friendly people. Good location, just outside of Bempton and close to Bridlington which combines a rural setting without being too far from amenities.

Our accommodation was really comfortable, well-equipped and thoughtfully designed. Interesting bonus of being able to watch the barn owls particularly as two of the four eggs hatched.

Another wonderfu7l stay at the farm, he cottage was lovely the weather good the only tiny problem the basin in the double room did not hold water and the toilet was very low but found out later I could have had a raised seat. If you are wanting home from home comfort you will not find anywhere better. Very peaceful location but just 5 minutes drive away from Sewerby Park. Ideal for visiting Bempton Cliffs, Bridlington and Scarborough. First class welcome from Angela and John the owners. Lovely welcome hamper waiting for you on arrival. After multiple lockdowns, returning to the High Barn Cottages was a much needed respite. I have travelled here many times over the years, always wonderful - the cottages are well equipped, a veritable home from home. Comfortable in the extreme, with lots of carefully thought out extras. John, Angela and James care for the property and guests very well, always welcoming, without being obtrusive. A paradise to return to, with easy access to the coast, either cliffs or beaches.

Booked The Cake House at the last minute without really knowing what to expect. The main reason for our trip was to visit Bempton and Flambrough Head so location was key for us. What a wonderful surprise. The accommodation was spotless, very comfortable, warm and a very relaxing base. We were lucky with the weather but had it rained all day we did say we would be happy just staying “at home”. After a long day out we really looked forward to coming back. The welcome hamper was very generous with some lovely local products. The place was well equipped and there was plenty of on site parking. The Cake House is all on one level with the bed rooms on opposite ends, both of which were en-suite. The living area has very high ceilings and a huge window overlooking fields so it was great watching the sun set.

We stayed 3 nights at the Cake House. The cottage is spotlessly clean, with everything you need and more for a wonderful stay. Attention to detail is phenomenal, the beds are comfortable, the bathrooms and kitchen fully equipped - truly home from home! The location is very quiet and close to lots to do for adults and children alike. Sun in the patio terrace overlooking the fields in the late afternoon so perfect to unwind after a hectic day. This is the best cottage we have stayed in in the UK and have no hesitation recommending it. Perfect for a family too as the bedrooms are separated by the living room providing both sides privacy and quiet. Kids will love the owl web cam (we did too!). Owners were responsive and approachable. The welcome hamper was the best too! Thank you.

Just spent a week in the Cake House and loved every minute of it; beautiful house, super clean and all you could need for a week away - in a great location for seeing the surrounding area. 4th visit to High Barn Farm and it never disappoints. From the Welcome Hamper, to the comfort of the accommodation, the beautiful surrounding countryside to the proximity of the coast everything is all you could want for a holiday. The East coast is your oyster if the weather is good and if it’s not the cottages are a cosy haven to settle into for a day snuggled up by the fire with a good book or a game around the table with the family. We have brought our elderly Mum here for breaks and she has loved it in the Cake House where she could get around, all on one level. This time we brought the younger family (late 20s ) and they absolutely loved it. Life is complicated during these Covid times, but if possible we will most certainly be returning as there is always so much to see and do.

We stayed in the Cake House for a week. It was the second time we’d stayed here and it was just as lovely as the first time,in fact, it hadn’t seemed to have worn at all in 3 years!
Cake House is warm and cosy, beautifully decorated in a mixture of antique and contemporary which really works and is absolutely spotlessly clean.
It’s all on one level so ideal for people with limited mobility and a shower stool and toilet raiser are available if required.
The kitchen is fully equipped and all appliances are contemporary and fully functional.
Both bedrooms have French windows that look out onto beautiful fields where barn owls and hares can be spotted.
The sitting area is warm and comfort having a flat screen tv( as do both bedrooms) and DVD player.
The courtyard outside is perfectly restored with immaculate lawns and sitting areas outside the cottage.
It is really well located- private enough to feel you are in the countryside but 10 minutes into Bridlington and many fine houses and gardens in the area to visit plus easy access to Filey, Hornsea and Beverley.
We absolutely loved our second stay in the Cake House ( delicious welcome hamper!) and will definitely be back again.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

Another lovely stay at the Cake House! The accommodation was as spotlessly clean and comfortable as always with a few additional touches to ensure absolute reassurance about health and safety during this particular time.
Great welcome pack and every other amenity we needed. The activity on the owl cam was busy and the lights in the big tree a lovely surprise for this visit.
We went to the coast, and although some bits were busy, it never felt uncomfortably so and towards Bempton cliffs and Sewerby there was plenty of space to enjoy the fresh air and views which was important as we were with my parents who are just out of shielding.
We'll be back next month with friends who have never visited this spot.....lockdowns permitting....and are looking forward to showing them the coast and introducing them to the delights of High Barn!

First trip away after three months of confinement and what a lovely place we found, the Cake House at Field House Farm. Beautiful restored farm building with two bedrooms, both en-suite, and a large open living room overlooking fields and big skies.
Within walking distance of Bempton Cliffs (RSPB) where puffins, gannets and thousands of other birds nest, and day trips to Scarborough Castle, Whitby Abbey, Bridlington, Robin Hood Bay and Flamborough Cliffs. Beautiful accommodation and definitely 5*.
Accessible accommodation (wheelchair user) can be really difficult to find of this standard. John and Fiona very helpful. Views lovely and saw lots of wildlife. If you can’t get out and about it doesn’t matter as the property and outlook is so lovely. The only slight limitation is access to the wet room if mobility is fully restricted or a full time wheelchair user (note this is no failure of the property as it is described as suitable for less mobile guests/part time wheelchair users). Hamper a real treat. Will definitely be making a return visit. Can’t wait.

Well presented. Good location. Comfy beds. Great log burner. Wildlife visible. Unfortunately hot water only works in shower over the bath. Luke warm water in kitchen sink. No vaguely warm water in walk-in shower. Owner unable to rectify during our stay. No oven gloves. Underfloor heating difficult to control. Nice place though. (If only holiday home owners actually lived in their cottages for a few days which would inform them of the negatives....)?

Thank you for bothering to post a review. I'm sorry you found the hot water in one shower room and the kitchen problematic during your stay. We investigated the hot water system during your stay ( from our control system in the pump room) to identify the problem and our heating engineer was able to suggest that a pinpoint fault in one of the concealed pipes might be the cause. Our subsequent guests were informed and experienced no difficulties, but we are nevertheless closing the property from today to install a new fully exposed shower unit in this second bathroom and to check all the other pipes. I'm afraid I don't understand what "dregs" you are referring to in your title. This was maybe a typo on your part?

This is our third time at High Barn but the first time in the summer and it turned out to be a very hot week! The Cake House is an excellent accommodation, all on one level which is great as we were with elderly parents. There was a lovely welcome hamper and the cleanliness and attention to detail is outstanding; after one particularly hot night we asked if there was a fan available and Angela arrived with one almost immediately! We saw the hares dashing about and lots of bird life and the deer popped its head up too. We pottered about in Bridlington, visited Filey for the first time in decades and were pleasantly surprised, likewise nearby Sewerby Hall. The Yorkshire Wolds are often underestimated but the sunsets under the expansive skies were stunning.

We can't recommend both High Barn and the apartments in York enough.

We have just spent a wonderful, relaxing week in The Cake House. A beautiful barn conversion that is immaculately maintained.
We were met on arrival by Angela, the lovely, friendly owner, who showed us around and explained where everything was etc. The amazing, generous hamper we received on arrival contained lots of lovely goodies. Thank you so much.
Watching the baby barn owl on the webcam was a truly, wonderful experience. Waking up and seeing two large hares passing by through the window was amazing too. We were also able to see deer, kestrels, the parent barn owls in flight and a pheasant!
The Cake House is the place to have a quiet and relaxing break in the depths of the countryside but very close to the coast as well. It is suitable for and appealing to all ages as we had with us my 92 year old mum and our 18 year old daughter.
Thank you so much Angela - we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and hope to return again very soon.

A beautifully maintained, and well equipped, cottage situated in lovely surroundings run by friendly and helpful hosts.
The cherry on top of the cake for us was being able to watch the resident Barn Owls on the webcam.

This was our third stay in the Cake House and it once again didn't disappoint! Everything is still as lovely as our last visit; decor and cleanliness is still top quality. As is the hamper - always a treat to go through and sample the goodies within. The added higher chair and footstool was a welcome addition for Dad who now struggles with low seats and the wildlife once again kept us entertained over breakfast and supper.

Nothing is no trouble for the team who own and manage the site and there is always a cheery smile, a warm welcome and a personal goodbye - in this busy age of social media this is such a personal touch that is very much appreciated.

We hope very much to be back next year - fingers crossed!

We have just returned from four nights at the Cakehouse with our disabled daughter. Everything about our stay was of the highest standard and John and Angela go the extra mile to ensure that every comfort is supplied.The area is very suitable for wheelchair access and we are already planning our next trip there. Definitely one we would strongly recommend . Mr and Mrs Turner, West Sussex.

The Cake house, like the other cottages in this complex has everything you need to have a relaxing holiday. It is so comfortable and with the addition of underfloor heating you feel warm and relaxed. We visited in May which was still cold and wet but once inside you could just switch off from the weather outside. The views are spectacular especially with the sunsets.

Another great stay at High barn, this time in the cake house but it doesn't matter which one you stop in there all excellent and so comfortable. I think we are in double figures now as we have stopped there many times before but the quality has never waivered, John was there to meet and greet and say goodbye on the morning of departure, the welcome Hamper always a nice touch, the cleanliness was Excellent as usual.

This is our third visit to the Cake House but not I hope our last. The property suits us in many ways. The walk in shower helped enormously when recovering from major surgery-- the interior is welcoming and efficiently laid out.-- the house wlcome package is very genorous and starts the stay off with enormous good will -- the landscape around the property is calming with fertile land and huge skies and Flamborough is a corner of England that has not been completely taken over by exploitation. Alovely place in which to relax wnd charge up ones battery.

We do listen to our visitor's suggestions. a comfy highbacked chair has just been purchased for The Cake House. Please do ask for the toilet raisers when you next visit - it's very easy for us to put them in a cottage in advance of a visit.

My wife and I have spent a great 4 nights in the Cake House. With very limited mobility accessibility is very important to me and the Cake House suited my requirements fully. We did reverse the car close to the paved entrance to the barns as my electric
power chair did not like the gravel, but there was ample room and did not cause a problem.

And there was a chair with arms which meant I could sit comfortably out of my wheel chair and stand up again.

The welcome pack was great

We are looking to book again and will bring friends with us.

First stay at the cake house. Beautiful restored barn conversion offering excellent accommodation all on one level in a quiet location. The cake house is well equipped with everything you need, very warm and comfortable with a lovely welcome hamper of goodies on arrival. The accommodation is true to its description on the website and would definitely recommend it, it was just perfect! The owners have thought of everything, and are on hand if you need anything. We explored Whitby, Robin hoods bay, Scarborough and visited bempton cliffs and Bridlington from the barn. We stayed at the cake house for a week and then went on to at the malt house in York for 3 nights which was also excellent.

The scores given tell you that all elements of our stay were faultless! My husband has mobility problems and therefore has specific needs including no steps or stairs, a wet room and the flexibility of zip and link beds. These all apply at The Cakehouse but in addition they were able to supply on request a shower stool, a loo raiser and a firm chair with arms (these were all in place on our arrival). This meant we were able to book somewhere that is not a dedicated facility for people with disabilities which was just what we wanted.

This was our first visit to the area and we loved the rural location with easy access to the coast. A particular highlight was being able to watch barn owls in their roost (?) on the large tv monitor in the cottage. This was mesmerising! The hamper of Yorkshire goodies awaiting our arrival was also a delightful surprise.

All in all i don’t think we have every stayed anywhere else that appears to have thought of everything...and we have stayed in some very nice places.

Warning to anyone who books The Cake House - you will want to come back! We had previously stayed at one of their other properties, just along the road at Field House Farm. This was our second stay at the Cake House and it was as lovely as we remembered it to be! The standards are still excellent, customer service is second to none and the Welcome Hamper is always a treat to explore. So often we have found when we return to other places that standards have slipped or the accommodation has become tardy. Not so at all here.

The wet room accessibility is ideal for my elderly parents and the quietness of the location really does add to the whole ambience of the place. It feels like a real home from home too.

More explorations of the East Coast and the Wolds and we hope very much to return again next year!

We had a lovely few days last November in the cake house. Highly recommended and excellent for a wheelchair user. The owners were really helpful providing a plastic chair to use in the wet room, all the facilities were top quality and, although not specifically adapted, were all easy to use. The location was so peaceful and we loved watching the owl come and go on his evening flights. We hope to be back again at some point. Definitely one of the best places we have stayed (and we have travelled a fair bit). Many thanks for everything (and apologies for taking so long to write this review!), Helen and Kevin

As a returner to High Barn Cottages and in particular the Cake House we knew what to expect and the standards of cleaniliness, the quality of the furnishings and the high standards around the grounds, did not disappoint. We chose the Cake House for the Accessibility factor, as at 85 Mum has some mobility issues. She feels confident and able to potter around the cottage, take a shower, with the aid of a shower stool and generally go about her daily routine, without feeling compromised. There's so much to see and do, within easy driving distance and despite a cool wind we managed to get out every day. There was an issue with the internet, which was out of everyone's hands, though the owner worked hard over the weekend to try and rectify matters. We have met a number of the High Bar 'Team' and everyone always has time for a chat and ready advice if needed.
The cottages are extremely well fitted out and very comfortable. There was the option for a 'High chair, with arms' on the booking form this year and we did request it, as Mum finds the settees a little low and struggles to get out. The chair was a carver dining chair, which was a little disappointing. We appreciate that it would be difficult to change the furniture around too much, but an upholstered chair would be lovely if it could be provided. No criticism, more of an observation Thank You

Came over from US and took parents for Brief 3 day trip. The Cake House was warm and inviting given frigid February weather. Cottage has everything you need and more. Everything is great quality. Welcome hamper was a nice touch too. Also really appreciated the heated floors, which are powered my electricity generated by the windmill. Will no doubt go back again. Excellent.

From the standard of the conversion to the soft white bathrobes provided, my wife and I were blown away by the accommodation at the Cake House. As a person of restricted mobility I think Angela and John have thought of virtually everything to make one's stay here as comfortable and relaxing as possible. We might have to take a look at their apartments in York so that we can do some more sightseeing in that remarkable city.

Just back from a five day stay at the Cake House - the property has been well thought out and the interior is very much like a home from home. The location is great for visiting the coast or the NY Moors and it is such a peaceful setting. We really enjoyed our stay and it is a pleasure to recommend this to anyone who wishes a little 'home from home' luxury on holiday.

The Cake House looked nice on the website but exceeded all our expectations on arrival. It's the standard of a luxury hotel but with the feel of being at home. It was spotlessly clean, very spacious and furnished to a very high tasteful standard with many small personal touches. All the crockery and cutlery is very high quality too and the kitchen is very well provisioned.
Both bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, the twin having a wet room with mobility aids if required, all beautifully maintained. Each room has a large patio door with stunning views across wheat fields were we saw pheasants, hares and barn owls every evening along with beautiful sunsets.
The cottage is part of the Green Tourism scheme so has wind powered underfloor heating, a composter for the loos, recycling and many other green credentials.
It's situated in a quiet country lane but within 5 mins drive of both Bempton Cliffs and Bridlington. There s so much to do in the area we will be coming back for longer.
I can't stress how lovely this cottage is. There are 4 cottages each sleeping four so it would be lovely to hire them all for a family gathering or special occasion.

My partner, and my elderly parents and I thoroughly enjoyed a week here. The place was spacious, comfortable and a welcoming place to come back to each day after sightseeing. The bedrooms are at either end which gives more privacy to each couple and being on one level was ideal for mum and dad. Being in a rural location was wonderful for seeing the wildlife. And spotting the barn owls we had seen on the owlcam each day was addictive! Yet it was not far to different locations for sightseeing so you don't spend long in the car. My partner and I walked the Flamborough headland from North to South landing. It was good for bird spotting. However RSPB Bempton cliffs is magnificent for this also and very nearby. The owner John was there to welcome us and very helpful.

After a trying year Mum and I needed a little break away from it all. We needed somewhere suitable for a not so nimble 84 year old, but with all the comforts of home and we found it (with brass knobs on) at High Barn Cottages, and specifically in The Cake House. The cottages are furnished to a very high standard and everything you need for a relaxing stay is there, including a lovely welcome basket. If you prefer to shop once you arrive there's everything there for a light breakfast the first morning. Sadly, the weather was pretty dire for the few days we were there, but we made the most of it with lots of reading, wildlife spotting in the fields at the rear (from the comfort of a seat in front of a lovely fire in the wood burning stove) and most enjoyably... watching Owl TV! The owl is located in a nesting box above the aptly named Owl Cottage and live stream is available to watch 24hrs a day. The current occupant had a clutch of four eggs when we arrived, and by the second day it was clear one of the eggs had hatched. The Mum is very attentive and so you have to be pretty lucky to see inside the nest, but we got a quick glimpse of what we believed was a sleeping chick and the remaining 3 eggs, on our last day. We did try to view the Gannets and Puffins at the RSPB reserve just up the road at Bempton Cliffs, but the weather was to rough for us. There's plenty to do, locally, for everyone and if you enjoy walking, then this is a superb base. If you prefer (or need) to drive then there is a wealth of choice within a 30 minute drive, but give Hornsea Freeport retail outlet a miss, it was very disappointing.

We have rented a lot of cottages and this one is a favourite. We had a wonderful stay in an immaculate cottage in a relaxed environment. The facilities include everything you need and seeing the owl was a highlight.

A very well equipped property close to Sewerby and Bempton. We liked the open plan living and kitchen area and views of open countryside. We had requested adaptions for a wheelchair user which were provided although the wet room only has a rain maker style shower head, no separate attachment so was quite difficult to use. Also one of the bedrooms was very light in morning as there was a glass door to the bathroom and no blind on the bathroom window! Having said this it is difficult to find properties all on one level so would return and recommend to others

We all enjoyed the warmth and coziness of our stay.The hamper was a real Christmas treat, and watching the Owl ,what a beautiful bird can't wait to come back again and see if her?mate comes back,and they rear some Owlets.Have given your card to 2 other couples with my recommendation.!!!

We have been seeking high quality accommodation in the Scarborough /.Bridlington area for over ten years; hotels, rental properties and B and Bs were always disappointing. Finally we found The Cake House in the High Barn development near Sewerby and as far as we and the friends who travel with us are concerned it is perfect - hence our return visit this year. This small development of rental properties is well thought out and perfectly managed in every way. Its quiet location offers peace, quiet and glimpses of wildlife but also easy access to beautiful coastlines and many of the historic properties of East Yorkshire. We're glad we persevered in our quest for a high quality rental property in this relatively unexplored part of England - it was worth the wait!

The Cake House is a lovely cottage fitted out to the highest spec in an amazing location. We saw hares from our patio Windows and at night bats flew round the cottage. I even caught a glimpse of the resident owl flying across the fields and a hedgehog making his way across the grass. It is very peaceful and rural yet only a short drive from the lovely beach at Bridlington. Be piton cliffs are very near where we saw puffins and kittiwakes nesting.

I would highly recommend the cake house for it's first class accommodation and well situated holiday destination. It provided us with a very comfortable place to return to after a busy day discovering Yorkshire.
John was very welcoming and provided us with lots of information and the welcome hamper was exceptional.

We had a super weeks holiday at The Cake House during the February half term break. The cottage is beautifully appointed and we enjoyed both relaxing in the cottage during rainy days and also exploring the surrounding area. The welcome hamper and fresh flowers were very much appreciated. The children (including me!) enjoyed watching the Owl cam and we were determined to see it fly off before we left. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Cake House and would be very happy to return to spend another holiday there in the future.

This property lives up to the description on the website. It has everthing you need for a lovely peaceful break. The standard of the barns is very high. The beds and linen are lovely and it was hard work to get up in the morning! There is no noise at all and we didn't see anyone else around all weekend. We went out and about in the daytime but the barn was so lovely we ate in each evening as we couldn't bear to leave the setting sun which we could see from our lounge and bedrooms. It was nicer than my actual home and I never wanted to leave ;-). The kitchen is well equipped and it's all lovely and clean. The bathrooms are modern and the wet room in the cake house is lovely and roomy. The towels provided are also of high quality.

A real Home from Home.
We were delighted with the high standard of the whole place .The welcome basket was so unexpected and very useful thoroughly enjoyed the home made apple juice.We thoroughly appreciated the wide sunny aspect from all areas of the cake house ,the lovely patio area and despite the comment below we found it all very relaxing.
Very easy Access to Bridlington the wonderful RSPB Bempton Cliffs and Flamborough Head..
Very well thought out high standard accommodation for normal needs , I would have loved to try the wood burning stove but as main patio windows are south west facing the whole place was lovely and warm. The sunsets brilliant.
A small comment :-
I mistakenly took wheelchair accessible as suitable for someone who cannot stand I therefore
took my very elderly mother who is unable to walk/stand as stated the whole area IS wheelchair accessible BUT the bathroom sinks are very modern sit on top of the surfaces and look wonderful but are not accessible for washing from sitting position in a wheelchair.

Thank-you for your lovely review of The Cake House. We're very happy that you experienced such an enjoyable stay. We're sorry about your misunderstanding regarding the cottage's suitability for a visitor unable either to walk or stand. Both the Cake House and The Spinney have level access and wide doors which enable access for a wheelchair user. The en-suite bedrooms feature wet rooms and the living/dining areas, the kitchens and outside seating areas are all designed to accommodate a wheelchair user. We provide a shower stool in each wet room. However, lower sinks and washbasins have not been installed and are only required with Mobility 3 Ratings, which we have not sought to achieve. We believed we provided very clear information explaining what was on offer, but your very welcome comments indicate that we perhaps need to clarify this, both on our website and in our literature, in order to avoid any possible difficulty . Thank-you.

This was the second time we stayed in High barns this year.
It truly is a wonderful relaxing and most excellent base to see the Yorkshre Coast and meet the lovely people who make up the many communities around.

If you enjoy walking, cycling or just chilling out, you will not be disappointed.

We have stayed in the Scarborough/Bridlington area every summer for over ten years and have sought in vain for high quality self catering accommodation for 4 adults. Finally our tenacity has paid off. The Cake House offered us just what we required in terms of location and 5 star accommodation. The chance to observe the local wildlife at such close quarters was an added bonus!

Having searched extensively for somewhere to accommodate 2 couples on a nice weekend break from kids and jobs etc (close to the East coast) of a high standard, I chanced upon High Barn Cottages on the web. I made a phone call to enquire about availability for our dates and spoke to John initially and then to Angela later and was offered Cake House for a reasonable price for the obvious standard and quality as it appeared on the web site
My wife and friend were in the advance party to get things organised and prepare a meal for us 2 men to arrive later and as I understand they had no problems finding or getting in to the property. Well I don't often rave about these things often but we were all so impressed by the standard and quality of the accommodation and the interesting story of how it had been developed from old farm buildings and the environmental aspect of the project. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, we could not have asked for anything else it was all there....It felt like staying in a 5* hotel with bathrobes and all the trimmings even a welcome hamper!
Superb location, very secure, ample parking, quiet and peaceful but not too far from local amenities etc. We were also told not to rush leaving on Sunday as they didn't need to turn the property around that day so just relaxed chatting over breakfast all morning. As the weather was not good we decided to leave for a little shopping trip to York and were sorry to leave. Will definitely go again and recommend to family and friends.
