Charming city centre luxury apartment situated in this historic award winning brewery conversion. The wonderful high ceilings and large windows give the apartment a real sense of space and light. The master bedroom has an en-suite shower room, TV and king size bed. The twin bedroom on the mezzanine floor is served by the bathroom in the entrance hallway. A stylish kitchen and dining area leads to the delightful living space with TV, radio /audio system, telephone and ample seating on comfy sofas. With only the shortest of strolls to the Minster, the apartment couldn't be better placed for all the culture, entertainment, museums, restaurants and cafes that York has to offer. There is secure courtyard parking for one car. Complimentary welcome hamper of local produce on arrival.

Enjoyed the stay - everything was in vg order, well presented and clean & tidy. The Old Brewery is a gem and very close to the City Centre - ideal - would hope to visit again.

We enjoyed a wonderful 3 day stay at this fantastic property with secure parking. A first floor apartment, fully equipped with everything you might need. 1 minute walk to York Minster, and
yet in such a peaceful location. Really looking forward to returning for a longer stay in the future.

We had a wonderful time staying at The Old Brew House. It is a spacious, well furnished and comfortable apartment with a well equipped kitchen. The welcome pack exceeded expectations and was put to good use. This is a great location and just around the corner from York Minster and all the wonderful little cobbled streets and their beautiful shops. We would definitely plan to stay here again

What a little gem of an apartment and so quiet especially as the city streets are only a few metres away. The hosts have provided everything needed for a visit. The welcome pack was an added bonus too. You’ve not got far to walk to reach the Minster, main shops, Bettys, museums etc. Another bonus is the on site parking, you’ll need to reverse into the space as the host recommends as it can be a bit tight. We ate at the House of the trembling madness on Stonegate - very quirky - but can recommend the sharing platters using local produce. Just at the corner near the apartment is Ambiente - spainish tapas restaurant, ideal for a meal or just a snack. You can’t go to York without visiting Bettys, we had afternoon tea which was very enjoyable.

Will definitely use again.

Lovely place to stay in an excellent location. Being able to park in York was brilliant, we were not disturbed by external noise even though we were very central. Because it was a hot week, I wish I had taken a fan with me- it was a bit warm in the sleeping area, even with the windows open.

Great apartment in a perfect and central location within the city walls. Within a couple of minutes walk to the centre of York, yet very quiet. Apartment is kept to a high standard. Very clean with everything you could need during the stay. Will definitely hope to stay here again!

The flat is in an excellent central location.We have stayed in HE's The Hop Store several times in the past, often with my elderly Mum or our sons as it is a good half way place to meet up between Scotland and London. We chose to try The Brew House this time. It is a little smaller generally but the main issue for us would be the mezzanine second bedroom. We did not like it as it is very dark, no windows for light or fresh air. It also has the heating and water boiler in a cupboard next to the beds giving out heat and running noise. The on/off noise was also audible at night in the main bedroom.

The flats are usually very clean and fresh but this time the bathroom was not clean, with long standing issues that had simply not been addressed regularly enough. The shower head over the bath in particular was unusable.We have already discussed this with HE management and had their thoughts on it. I also badly injured my head on a protruding cooker hood located in a tight corner of the kitchenette area, it is where all the most used items are stored, so it was hard to avoid. Suggested moving the most used items to the cupboards at the other end of the area.

We remembered there being cotton waffle robes provided before but not this time. There were no tea towels provided this time either, we were told to use a hand towel from the bathroom. Small things but they matter in premium accommodation. This sounds a little whinging but all the small issues mounted up over the four days.

If travelling to York by car, the on site parking is excellent and valuable. It is near to many restaurants and visitor areas such as the Minster. The area is quiet at night. We enjoyed our stay in York.

Thank you for sending us a previous communication detailing these points concerning The Brew House, all of which we have noted. The shower head over the bath has been replaced following your comments and we thank you for bringing that to our attention. We have responded to you already by email, hopefully to your satisfaction. The Brew House has a different layout to either The Hop Store or The Malt House, where you have stayed previously, but is equipped to the same standard. We state quite plainly that the second bedroom is on a mezzanine floor- typically mezzanine bedrooms are often without windows- ours is situated to one corner of double-height ceiling in the living space, which features floor to ceiling windows. I'm sorry this was not to your taste. Personally, I like it very much and it has been my bedroom of choice when I have stayed there.

The apartment is a wonderful super comfortable home from home providing the visitor with every possible amenity. The location is second to none - just around the corner from the Minster, so in the heart of York but in a secluded quiet area. The tapas restaurant - Ambiente Tapas - is not to be missed and is another reason why we keep returning to this great apartment.

The Brew House is a comfortable, very clean and well equipped apartment with easy access by lift to the first floor, and with the added advantage of a parking space. Although the apartment is in the centre of York the location is quiet and peaceful and in close proximity to all local attractions.

A great place to stay and highly recommended.

The location was perfect being in the heart of the city, so we could just relax and not think about using the car.
I felt the apartment was not warm enough. There was no adjustment on the room thermostats, being preset by the owners, also the towel rails were not operable. I feel for the price of the accommodation, to not be able to adjust the temperature to our comfort was
“penny pinching” and disappointing. I would recommend this property if the ability to control the heating was in the control of the guests and not the owners.

I'm sorry that your experience at The Brew House was spoilt by the lack of warmth. I can assure you that we do not limit the heating in any way and set all our thermostats to a manual setting to allow guests to plus or minus according to their wishes. One needs to remember that the heating system is underfloor and so slow to react. The towel rails are on a separate timer and set to come on twice a day for around 3 hours each time to dry towels. The bathrooms are heated through the floor. We also have two electric heaters in the under stairs cupboard which can be used by guests if they want an extra boost in a really cold spell. I have to admit that I helped clean that apartment and as I was so warm, didn't think to check all the thermostats and clock timer for the towel rails. It could well be that a previous guest had played with the settings. We do give out our phone numbers and so it was a shame that you suffered in silence when a call could have solved all your issues.

Booked from Monday to Friday loved the apartment. Very comfortable and well maintained. Central for everywhere but also beautifully quiet and very relaxing. So impressed that we’ve booked to go back in May 2024. If anyone is visiting York and looking for somewhere to stay I would definitely recommend the old brewery apartments. A big thank you. The Brew House is unique. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary. Locality is excellent, walk around the corner and there is York Minster in all its prime and glory. Restaurants, shops and attractions are all within a short walk. The Apartment is light and airy and extremely comfortable. Exceptional meal at Little Italy just around the corner, everyone so welcoming.

I stayed for a week and wished it was much longer. The Brew House offered comfort plus and everything needed to make the stay enjoyable from the most welcome and generous Welcome pack and tips on where to eat to the easy to use appliances such as the washing machine with instructions. The apartment was immaculate, generously proportioned and tastefully decorated, with many thoughtful touches. It was wonderful to open up the windows and hear the Minister bells. The building is very secure and lift access a bonus feature. It was very quiet yet only around the corner and easy walking to shopping and the main attractions. So clean, comfortable and convenient. I do hope I can visit again.

We have stayed in The Brew House numerous times and wouldn't consider somewhere different when in York. The location is amazing--inside the city walls and just off the Minster Courtyard, but on a generally very quiet street. The apartment is spacious, well equipped, and with lots of natural light and ability to get lots of fresh air. The building is quiet and secure. The Foster's--who own the apartment--are super friendly and run a first class operation--both here and at their properties on the East Coast near Bempton Cliffs--like High Barn.

Situated close to the Minster and everything within walking distance. Car had it's own allocated space within security gates. Very quiet area. Accommodation clean and everything provided ironing board, dishwasher etc. There was a welcome pack on arrival milk, tea bags, wine and snacks which was a lovely gesture. Beds comfortable one with ensuite shower and a separate bathroom. Enjoyed our stay and will definitely rebook.

Met up with family and had a great stay. Because of the location it meant that individuals could come and go as they pleased and not reliant of someone driving. If you are an early riser, the location also allows you to pop out and explore places like The Shambles without the crowds.
The dining recommendations provided were very good. We dined at Ambiente (note that there are two Ambientes in York!) and Little Italy both on Goodramgate and only a few yards from the apartment. Food was excellent as was the atmosphere. We were glad we booked a week in advance as it was very busy. We also had tea and the most wonderful cakes from Wheldrakes, also a few yards from the apartment. For us, location and the bonus of a parking spot was the main attraction of this apartment. We will be planning a return visit. The building itself was cool (which was great as we were here during the heatwave), airy and relatively quiet considering it was a hot weekend in the middle of August.

Had a really nice weeks stay in this spotless apartment. We had stayed in The Hop Store three years previous and had no hesitation coming back to the same building. The central location with secure parking is handy and reassuring. There is a very generous welcome pack and plenty of useful information about your stay in and around York. We may have to come back and check out the third apartment soon.

We have stayed numerous times over many years in The Brew House and always have a great stay. The setting can't be beat--inside the City Walls on a quiet street a stone's throw from The Minster. Easy access by foot all the shops and restaurants in York. The flat itself is spacious, very well appointed, soaring ceilings in the living area, kitchen and main bedroom, good natural light, and in a very quiet building. The Foster's are great hosts and very responsive if you need something or in the unlikely event you have a problem. When we are going to York, we don't browse around the internet looking for where to stay--we just book The Brew House. By the way, a two minute walk from the apartment on Goodramgate is Goji Vegetarian Restaurant, where you can have a fantastic lunch and get all sorts of great takeaway food and cakes.

Absolutely loved our stay at The Brewhouse apartment. We couldn’t fault the cleanliness, the bathrooms and kitchen were well equipped if we chose to cook (we didn’t) the beds were really comfortable, the only downside was we were awake at 5am as the curtains let the light through, so a sleep mask might be advisable! On the whole a top class apartment and the location is fabulous, it’s so quiet but literally just around the corner from The Minster, Goodramgate and the York Walls, which are well worth walking, it’s an easy walk into the centre of York and there are plenty of pubs, restaurants and shops in easy walking distance. The secure private parking is an added bonus. Definitely a 5 star stay for us.

This is our fourth stay at the Old Brewery, and our third in this apartment.
It's a very comfortable and well-equipped apartment, maintained to a very high standard, and good to get the welcome hamper (much of which was Yorkshire produce). It's in a great location off the main thoroughfares but just a few minutes' walk from the Minster.
As always, we'd a very enjoyable stay.

The Brew House is in a fantastic location, just a two minute walk from York Minster and lots of cafes, restaurants and shops more or less on the doorstep.
With secure parking in an allocated space, a lift up to the apartment and a bedroom and bathroom with walk in shower on the lower level, it was perfect for my mum who can’t do steps and is very unstable on her feet.
The apartment has everything you could need, it’s really like a home away from home. Really recommended.
For two people it works out a bit pricey, but the apartment sleeps four, so if there’s four of you it’s actually really reasonable.

We had to put the children in the master bedroom because the twin was a mezzanine above the living area with an open wall between them so it was only possible to go to sleep there once everyone went to bed
Very noisy downstairs neighbour one night their music was so loud it made the floor vibrate but it did stop about 11pm
We had the electrics cut out and were able to contact the owner straight away and they talked us through resetting
Helpful and friendly

We endeavour to make it clear on our website that the second bedroom is a mezzanine which, by definition, has one open side to the room below. It is always therefore advisable that the members of the party who go to bed last will be more suited to sleeping in the mezzanine.

Stayed again with Heritage and once again they never disappoint . First time in the Brew House . All of the accommodation was lovely and as usual everything you need for a short break is provided.
We had aunty with us this time in a wheelchair. She has very limited mobility but the facilities were ok for her. Would say she has a smaller wheelchair so bathroom ok. If you have a standard chair the Hop House would be easier to navigate .
Would like to congratulate the Foster family and their helpers in supporters in York for the continued cleanliness and maintained excellent standards of furnishings . We can say this as we were the first people to stay at the Hop House about 10 years ago and have been back several times and the same high standards have remained. Not sure I should be sharing this as don’t want to make it too hard ti find a booking slot in the future !

Had a short break here in early December and were really impressed. As hoped that apartment and location could not be bettered. The Covid mitigations were really good. The apartment was really well equipped including loo tools, clingfilm, kitchen foil, dishwasher tablets etc. The welcome basket was well stocked with lots of local delicacies as well as milk in the fridge. - Thank you, we will be back!

Having previously stayed at the owners other properties we had no worries about the Brew House and as expected, it was spot on.
A perfect location to discover York, no need to drive as the apartment is only a few minutes walk from the Minster and city centre.
On-site parking included so no parking to pay for either.
The apartment is fully equipped to live in but we ate out so never really used the facilities.
Lovely welcome hamper on arrival, very nice touch.
Top class accommodation and wonderful owners who were most helpful to keep moving our booking over the COVID period and kept the cost as per the original booking
Thoroughly recommend a visit

Really great apartment. Well located. Comfortable and everything you'd need already supplied. The robes were a nice touch as was the welcome basket. If I had one criticism it would be the lack of flexibility with the twin beds on the mezzanine floor bedroom. We were two couples staying in the apartment and a zip lock bed to convert the twin to a double would have been better. Apart from that I'd definitely book again.

Thank you for your kind review. We always note what our visitors tell us in reviews, but we can't always follow up their suggestions. On booking we make it clear that all three apartments are sold as two bedrooms - one king and one twins. We will not be changing this arrangement, as the beds in place do not link and were purchased recently. The girls in our cleaning team in York do a great job, but we don't expect them to include the heavy lifting entailed in joining beds together.

The standard of accommodation is excellent, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and luxury bathrooms. The decor is stylish and modern. The location is superb with plenty of excellent pubs and eateries on your doorstep which is mainly why we chose this holiday let. If I had any negative comment its that there is no outside space to relax and the carparking space is very tight if you have a big car.

Parking up in our own private gated car park right in front of the apartment was one of the reasons we chose to stay here.
The apartment was exactly what we saw on the 3D virtual tour on the website and it’s location was perfect, it was in a quiet location but still near to everything.
The weather was hot when we were there, so I probably would suggest a summer duvet, because it did get too hot in the night even though the bedroom had a very high ceiling and we opened the windows.
Definitely recommend

The Brew House is a very well equipped and comfortable apartment. It is superbly located being within walking distance of all York's main attractions. There are many good and varied restaurants nearby. The apartment has the advantage of providing a secure parking place..

Guests arrive to find a welcoming food hamper - a lovely surprise. A useful folder gives necessary information about the apartment together with advice about local shopping and tips on some lesser known visitor attractions.

I would not hesitate to recommend The Brew House as a great place to stay in York and have every intention of returning for another visit.

The Brew House is in an amazing location for visiting York. Just inside the walls and a few minutes walk from the Minister and surrounded by amazing shops, cafes and restaurants.

The property is to a very high standard with everything you need for an exceptionally comfortable stay. Highlights for us apart from staying in York was the very close proximity to fantastic coffee shops, bakery's and restaurants.

We have stayed on at least four occasions at the Old Brewery in various apartments over the years and cannot imagine staying anywhere else. Such high quality and so central in York. Fixtures and fittings of highest quality and generous welcome hamper. Two door keys would be an idea and better bulbs in reading lights. Great private parking. Otherwise all good.

Our second stay in these wonderful apartments and it did not disappoint. The location is perfect for exploring York; there is plenty to do and it is all on the doorstep. The apartment was finished to a high standard. It was beautifully clean, warm and comfortable. The location is superb - just a few strides from York Minster. The conversion of the old brewery is elegant and stylish.

We stayed in the Hop Store in March and wanted to return to York for the Christmas Market. This time we stayed in the Brew House. Nothing can be faulted about these beautiful apartments in the centre of York. The decor, fixtures and fittings are all first class. Once again the welcome basket was a real treat and the phone call from John checking that everything was to our satisfaction was well appreciated. We will certainly be returning and look forward to our stay at Fieldhouse Farm in April and June next year.

We have stayed in this apartment for a two week period during September for the last seven years. I guess you can surmise that we think it is great. And you would be 100% correct. The location--inside the city walls, a stone's throw from the Minster and all the great streets and shops in York--cannot be beat. Plus, a two minute walk from Goji--the best vegan/vegetarian cafe anywhere. The apartment is on a short quiet street, is spacious, with soaring high ceilings, great natural light and cross-ventilation, extremely well appointed and every appliance you could possibly need. The owners--Angela, John, and James--know how to run a truly first class operation. They are friendly and super responsive and accommodating. We are already booked for next year, and have given them our dates for 2021. In sum, we think it is a complete winner.

Our stay at the Brew House was Great for location & generally a great apartment. But unfortunately there were a few things that could have been better before we arrived. A small cupboard door was not attached & was left leaning against cupboard, the noise from the boiler & other services on the mezzanine bedroom was quite loud at night, the shower head in en-suite kept sliding down when wet which was a bit annoying. These are little things & to be honest did not spoil our holiday.
The one thing that was annoying was the noise from people in apartment above walking about especially at night, i’m Sure it was the same for apartment below (sound insulation between floors not the best) On our last night stay the apartment below played loud music which eventually stopped at midnight. I banged on the floor to no avail. I did not confront them as would have wound me up & then would definitely not sleep & it was our last night.
These points are relatively minor but it’s the little details that can make the difference.
Overall a Great place to stay if you want to see York

Thank you for taking the trouble to post your review for The Brew House. We confess to be a little puzzled by your comments about a 'cupboard ' door being unattached. We can only think you are referring to a blank kitchen panel with a spring-type fitting which occasionally seems to invite the more curious guests to see what it conceals. My guess is that this popped out - it was certainly attached when the housekeeping staff left just before you arrived, as our son went through the property to inspect it, prior to your arrival. A simple push to the spring clip secures it easily. The combi boiler was replaced this Spring and is on a manual setting to allow guests to choose their preferred temperature. You also mentioned noise from the apartment above and the one below and this has surprised us. Since we began holiday letting in The Old Brewery (from 2011) this issue has never really arisen. We have ourselves stayed in all three apartments and have found them to be quiet - occasionally one can hear a few footsteps from the apartment above, but this is unusual and perhaps part of apartment living that has to be expected and most of us can tolerate. We are sorry that you found noise to be intrusive during your stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Old Brewery. The apartment was very easy to locate and parking was fine; spaces were wide enough to actually get out of the car and unpack the boot without any trouble. Having a lift to the first floor was perfect for my elderly mum. The apartment itself was spotlessly clean, spacious and airy; we particularly liked the Juliette balcony which was a real asset in the warm weather we had during our stay. My daughter and I slept on mezzanine level, which was a good size space. There are curtains and blinds to block out light in the lounge/kitchen area and a screen to pull across to provide privacy if required, so sleeping on mezzanine level was just like being in a ‘proper bedroom’ really. There is en-suite in the master bedroom and the main bathroom has a full size bath and shower over the bath. The lounge area is bigger than it looks in the photos and the sofas are comfy. A lovely welcome pack awaited us and there was plenty of information about things to do in York. Ogleforth leads to the Minster and is an historic lane. It’s so close to everything, but very quiet. As you walk out of the Brewery gates and bear left (to the Minster), there’s a left turn at the end of the road and an intriguing and very old hotel ‘Grays Court’ which offers afternoon teas. We didn’t try it, but it’s top of our list for next time! We mostly ate out at ‘Little Italy’, which is a right turn out of the Brewery gates and left at the end of the road. Excellent food and very reasonable prices. All in all, our stay at The Old Brewery surpassed expectations and it is definitely top of our list for where to stay in York. I

We had a lovely weekend in York in this great apartment. The location is brilliant, literally a 3 minute walk to the Minster but on a very quiet road. The place itself was spotless and with everything you could need. Plus a very nice welcome hamper. Would heartily recommend!

We enjoyed our stay at the Brew House. The flat was nicely decorated and well appointed. The location right behind York Minster was easy to find and navigating the old city streets was a breeze. We highly recommend this flat!

The owners have made an effort to ensure the flat was cleaner than last year but there was still a little fluff here and there. The rating of ok for service was awarded on the niggles we had with booking. They were 1. They wrongly assumed that we wanted only one bedroom and towels for one couple. As we were there for as week we need both bedrooms and towels. In fairness they did let us keep the low occupancy discount to compensate (talking about towels we were surprised that only one tea towel was provided for a week. 2. The BACS code was changed so making the final booking caused extra work to sort out. 3. Well after I made the final payment we got a another request for payment. None of these niggles were serious but they were wearing away our confidence in the operation. It was a relief on arrival that things were ok.
We will probably want to stay at the flat next time we visit.

Thank you for your review posted today. I am sorry that our service did not live up to your expectations. We endeavour to make a stay in one of our apartments as pleasurable as possible. Following your comments:- We take great trouble to ensure our apartments are presented in the best possible way for our guests. We have developed a reliable system of a follow-up check, prior to guest arrival time, once the cleaners have left. On the day of your arrival, James and John went into York to do the checks, but as you had arrived early and had settled in, this check was not able to be fully made . James spoke to you in the apartment but realised a full inspection would disturb you unduly and he wished to respect your privacy. Had he done the usual full check, the 'niggles' you referred to would have been rectified. We always provide a full set of towels for four persons, no matter what the occupation is- four bath sheets and four hand towels are placed in each apartment for each visit. James would have ensured they were placed at the foot of each bed. He would have done the same check on the tea towels - there are always spares in a kitchen drawer and the hall cupboard - he would have checked that there were two in the kitchen and, if necessary, vacuumed or mopped the floors. I apologise for the confusion over your Bacs payment. Between 2018 and 2019, although retaining the same bank, we merged our two accounts into one. All our documentation was altered to show the changes - online/ emails /letters, and we were under the impression that all our guests were aware of these changes. Unfortunately, you sent your final payment to the defunct BACS account. This was subsequently returned to your bank . We advised you of this, requested that you checked the returned amount and respectfully asked for you to resend the balance to the altered Bacs number. This you did. We thank you for your patience and cooperation when this occurred. I am aware that internet transactions can be a cause for some concern, especially when details of the receiving account alter. You mentioned two requests for final payment - this should not have happened and only did so because your first payment was returned to your bank. (Your additional request for payment was automatically computer generated by our system until the final payment reached the correct BACS account.) I hope this clarifies things and addresses the concerns you have expressed.

We stayed here for a four night break over the Easter bank holiday. The location is central - ideal for walking into town yet easily accessible by car.

The accommodation is on the second floor but there is a lift if needed. The main lounge is large and airy and very well finished as is the whole apartment. Both the beds and settees are comfortable and good quality. The kitchen is well equipped and the welcome hamper is a really nice touch on arrival - there was even fresh milk in the fridge!

The WiFi has a good strong signal and the TV worked well. Both showers were good and hot.

Lovely as the apartment is we didn’t spend that long in it as York has so much to do and is literally just around the corner. That said it was so relaxing to be able to go out, do some shopping and be able to drop the purchases off and go straight out again!

The secure on site parking is a real bonus and makes this a potential touring base if you ever tire of the marvels within walking distance!

I can unreservedly recommend these apartments, the owners are good people to deal with and we hope to stay here again.

What a lovely home from home this apartment was. Very well equipped, comfortable and we loved the fact we could set the temperature in the rooms individually. Set in a quiet area but a short stroll away from the action. Thoughly enjoyed our stay both in the apartment and York. Highly recommend.

We are returning clients, but this was our first visit to York Brew House. As expected the apartment was first class.
Excellent location in York, quiet area but easy access into the centre. We parked the car in the allotted parking spot on site and it remained there until we left.
Highly recommend to anyone wanting to visit York as independent travelers.

This was our first Christmas in York but our third in properties owned by John and Angela. The apartment was as we expected, of a very high standard, comfortable and well equipped. On a par with the excellent High Barn near Sewerby.
The welcome pack was full of high quality goods and the Christmas tree added to the lovely atmosphere. John called us to check all was ok, much appreciated.
The location in the centre of york with parking, which is at a premium in this city, is fantastic for just stepping out and exploring all the sites. I would particularly recommend the brew house to first time visitors. There are a wide variety of restuarants nearby and supermarkets round the corner.
We had a lovely Christmas and would strongly recommend this apartment for a York stay at any time of the year.

My wife and I have stayed in this property each of the last five Septembers, the years before this under different owners. It was fantastic in every respect with them and I am happy to report it is equally fantastic with the Field House Farm folks. This apartment is modern, spacious, with great natural light and ventilation, soaring high ceilings, well appointed and with every appliance you could possibly want. The location is out of this world--inside the York city walls, a two-minute walk from The Minster, all the fun York streets and shops right at hand, and yet on a quiet, residential street. Plus, the wonderful Goji Vegetarian restaurant is a stone's throw away. How you can beat all of that, I know not. The owners, Angela, John and James, were all friendly, extremely helpful and accommodating, and immediately responded to the only problem we encountered during our stay (the internet was balky on our arrival and they had someone out to fix it in the blink of an eye). We have been in York every September since 1996 and have stayed in three or four 5 star self--catering properties over all those years. This one though takes the top prize and we wouldn't even consider looking for something else. As I said in the title of this review--it is a total winner.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Brew House. Booking was easy, the owners were friendly and helpful, the apartment was clean, comfortable and stylish, and the location peaceful yet very central (just a stone’s throw from the Minster - maybe that should be a “scone’s throw” - Crumb’s Cupcakery just around the corner has amazing scones!) The welcome hamper was excellent, right down to the milk in the fridge so that the holiday could begin with a good Yorkshire brew! There’s loads to do in York, and all easily accessible on foot from the Brew House. There are also public transport links reasonably nearby. Oh, and I must mention that there were some excellent street performers around the city when we visited in August.

The Brew House is ideally located close to the Minster and is so peaceful and quiet.
The apartment is spacious and comfortable with everything provided that you would need for a short break. It is exceptionally clean and the owners provide a lovely welcome basket for guests.

I had a glorious midweek break right in the heart of the City under the Cathedral towers. The apartment is superb in every respect with gated parking and a lift if you don’t fancy the stairs. The location is very peaceful and quiet despite being in the middle of a bustling city. The hospitality and customer service is great and the welcoming box of goodies is a real treat, I am still nibbling away at the peanut butter chocolate shards as I write.I have also stayed in the Malt house and Hop Store and they were superb as well, so I will keep coming back for more. 10/10 Excellent.

John and Pam from Basingstoke. we have used the flat for several years and have never found any reason to complain about it. It is in a great location,so close to the Minster and centre of the city yet quiet. This time it was not quite up to the standard we have been used to. Thre was a drainy smell which the owners' acknowledge, the ledges were dusty in parts and one of the face cloths was dirty. We raised these points with owners and they promised to deal with them. We expect to return.

Dear John and Pam Thanks for posting your valuable feedback after your stay at The Brew House. I'm sorry that, on this occasion,we were found wanting. We are on a bit of a learning curve with the acquisition of a third apartment. We need to learn how much time it takes to turn it around and learn about any unique peculiarities. Thanks to you, we now know that the water barrier in the 'u' bend of the washing machine is prone to evaporate and allow vapours to creep into the hallway. We now put the washing machine on to a rinse cycle when we change the apartment and this should keep the barrier intact. You also found a used flannel after a guest had, rather bizarrely, after using it, rolled it up and placed it back with the clean flannel making them both look unused. Changing all towels regardless is our normal policy but on this particular changeover the girls had left the Brew House until last and, under a lot of time pressure, found that it needed a great deal of work. I suspect that, given that they were running out of time, they left the flannels alone because they looked unused. We now know to allow more time to properly cover that apartment and so if you do, hopefully, return you will find it back to the standard that you expect.

The apartment is beautifully decorated and very comfortable with everything you could possibly need for a short break. It is very centrally situated just a few steps from York Minster but is in such a quiet position that a good night's sleep is guaranteed. We loved it and are returning again in July.
We had lovely sunny weather and a recommendation is to enjoy a drink in the garden of Grays Court Hotel which is located just around the corner from The Brew House - also walk the city walls for great views that you wouldn't usually see from strolling the streets.
Sunday lunch at The Guy Fawkes Inn is also recommended.
I can't recommend the apartment more highly - the best that we have stayed in at York.

The Brew House is a perfect place for a stay in beautiful York. It is centrally situated, near the Minster, with designated parking space. It’s only a short walk to the shops and many places of interest so the car can stay where it is. The Brew House is extremely comfortable and very well equipped with thoughtful attention to detail. We enjoyed our stay - thank you.
