Cuthbert House is a cosy and comfortable home with a wood burning stove, pretty garden area and a private entrance.

This luxurious property provides the perfect place to escape to and enjoy the peace and quiet. Part of the original home farm cottages for the Manor House at Brinkburn Priory, this stunning cosy property is part of the historic Brinkburn Estate.

We love Brinkburn and have now stayed in 3 different cottages, all of which we like for different reasons and suit us for different group visits. The grounds and freedom allowed for our short walks and exercising our little border collie are amazing and help make the visit more relaxing. The peace and quiet are just blissful. Cuthbert House has a sociable layout and also has that luxury feel. The only reasons for not giving 5 every time are: some of the glasses and crockery were not properly clean ( we realise this is the fault of the previous visitors not checking as they remove items from the dishwasher) and compared to our first visit 3 years ago, there are signs of wear and tear and "tiredness" eg chipped and uneven wooden floor, front door lock needs attention, back door needs to be slammed and house due a paint internally. All relatively minor stuff but written here to offer possible improvement. Having help on hand is so reassuring and everyone is so positive and friendly. We had a terrific time and will be back.

We have stayed at Brinkburn several times, and it never disappoints! The cottage, hosts and setting are absolutely perfect. Everyone is so friendly, the cottage itself is literally home from home. It was a real bonus having the woodburner on this week, so cosy. Also, i especially love an early morning walk down to the Priory. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.

Lovely peaceful break away from it all.

I beautfully appointed cottage with big spacious living room/ kitchen/ dining all served by a wood burning stve. Two great bedrooms with enormous beds , one ensuite and the other next to a proper bathroom ( ie with a bath) Hooray for a bath after a wet walk Lovely touches such as bath robes ( I liked mine so much I bought one from the supplier) and a welcome pack of wine ,coiffee, bsicuits
My only criticism is ofthe kitcchen facilities for what after all is a "self catering" place. The fridge had lost all the shelves in the door which meant wine bottles, milk etc had to befound a space in the interior where space is aways at a premium. Also it looked a bit "studenty"
The saucepans consisted of a milk pan and a small saucepan and one enormous pasts pot. There were frying pans but a decent sized pan for potatoes, veg etc would have been nice. I got my brother who was joining us to bring saucepan and a large roasting tray so we could cook the joint we planned for NYE dinner. Everything else was too small. And does no one ever cook casseroles any more? Could an ovenproof casserole dish be provided ?
The microwave was of the reheat only variety -never encountered one before where you ouldn't choose your heat time or anything else.
A bit short of things like tumblers, but plenty of wine glasses.
If you're a cook bring your own stuff !
But livd the place
Ruth

Our stay at Brinkburn was our third visit, and our third cottage!!! Cuthbert House was absolutely superb. We enjoyed every minute of it. The standards of the cottages are really luxurious, we especially like the lay-out of Cuthbert because it is open-plan downstairs. To be able to walk down the driveway towards the Priory each morning and evening with our dogs is a privilige. Fabulous stay, would love to visit again. Thank you to Mark, Emma and the team.

An appreciation of Brinkburn accommodation.

This is a lovely part of Northumberland and the Brinkburn estate is adjacent to Brinkburn Priory steeped in history.
Great for walking from the door and a short car run to the coast. Cuthbert house backs onto fields and a wooded area all accessible and during our stay we could see house martins all day and occasionally hares a heron and sheep.
The front of the house is riot of roses and the courtyard is surrounded by raised planters providing an abundance of flowers and shrubs. The hosts were very friendly and gave advise on the locality what to see and do.

We had a lovely week at Brinkburn. The cottage is very well appointed, comfortable, clean and had a good outdoor space for my dog. It's in a great location for both the coast and in land features. The en-suite bathroom in addition to stand alone bathroom worked really well for our party. I was also really thankful for the useful dog items provided, thank you!

The only thing I think would be a useful addition would be a brief description of the places you recommend on the blackboard; eg Anglers Arm, pub food and setting; Northumberland Arms, restaurant standard food in relaxed setting, menu for dogs. Also a hand towel in the kitchen would be useful. But these are small additions; we look forward to staying here again.

I visited with three friends to take part in the Yoga Retreat. Cuthbert House exceeded all expectations. It is so welcoming, comfortable and stylish. Everything you need is there. Kitchen and dining just perfect, and the basket of goodies an added treat. Bedrooms and bathrooms divine. Going to bed is like climbing into a cloud. We couldn’t wait to get back after our walks and yoga.
Our thanks to Emma, Leigh and the Brinkburn team for creating a perfect start to the year for mind, body and soul. Can’t wait to do it all again.

We stayed at the Cuthbert House for 3 nights/4 days with a family of 4 (3 yr old & 1 yr old) and a dog. The kids absolutely loved having all the space down stairs and our 3 yr old had a bedroom to her self with a huge king size bed! Both bedrooms were very spacious and the en-suite was perfect! The whole of the living room/kitchen diner was just what we needed! Very spacious! The log burner was perfect for the night time whilst kids were a sleep, also easy to use! We had our friends visit the first night and commented on how nice the cottage was! We can’t wait to stay again next year when we get married in October 2023, we will definitely be recommending this cottage and the other 3 to our friends for future mini breaks! Thanks for having us again! See yous next year!

We chose to stay in the Brinkburn cottages during our wedding weekend in September 2022 and could not find a fault, even if we tried. The groom and his groomsmen chose Cuthbert House due to the size of the kitchen, and it proved to be a fantastic cottage for hosting in the evening and also for getting ready for the big day together. The Brinkburn team was very responsive and when we needed to draft in some twin-toddler cots & high chairs on short notice on a Sunday, the team could not be more understanding and accommodating. Will always highly recommend Brinkburn to anyone, going forward.

We stayed three nights as our son was getting married at Brinkburn Priory on the Saturday. We hired Cuthbert and Blakey as there’s an interconnecting door so the whole family could be together. Both were superb. We loved the gardens overlooking the peaceful sight of grazing sheep. It was a perfect location for us both for the wedding celebrations and recovering quietly on the Sunday. The Welcome hamper was the best we’ve had anywhere!

Another wonderful stay at Brinkburn, this time at Cuthbert House, we return 2/3 times per year and have done for a number of years, Brinkburn is my favourite place to stay in Northumberland. Furnishings are beautiful, rooms are spotless and the location is brilliant. Katy and the team are always so helpful. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this as a place to stay, and it is a stunning venue in which to get married.

Sorry the only reason I have scored the location a 3 is because we couldn't get a taxi the whole time we had our stay and the road to the cottages has no path which meant we had to ask the bar lady at the Anglers Arms for a lift back (felt cheeky even though we gave her some money) just think it would be nice if there was a local taxi service available.

A wonderful base from which to explore the coast and region.

Following months of stressful work environment for both myself and my partner, we decided finally to take a break. We were travelling from Leicester and expecting a 3 to 3.5 hour journey. We were delayed leaving Leicester due to work commitments and finally started off at around 5.30pm. We didn’t stop at services to avoid arriving at the destination when it was too dark. After 2 traffic incidents during our journey which caused further delays we finally arrived at Brinkburn around 10.30pm - it was pitch black and a rural location - no street lamps. Our booking confirmation advised that the keys would be left in the door. After finally finding the cottage there were no keys in the door!!! We looked everywhere and even on other doors and near the site office. No one was on site. We consulted our booking confirmation and found 3 telephone numbers, 2 of which were emergency contact numbers. We rang all numbers repeatedly. No answer!!! We discovered that one of windows did not shut properly. At that time of night we were left with little choice but to try accessing the property through that window, after all, we were expected - all the lights in the property were on and we could see a welcome basket through this window. Once we were in, we just unpacked the car. We continued ringing the emergency numbers but again with no answer we had to call it a day. Next morning we tried calling again - no answer. At this point we also realised we were limited in where we can go as we couldn’t secure the property if we left to go site seeing!! We decided not to venture too far away and had to cart our belongings with us when we left - after all we needed to shop for food supplies for our stay. We were also anxious in the cleanliness of the property. We saw cobwebs that were so big that they could have come from the spray can. We spent all of the following day at the cottage as we couldn’t venture too far out without the key. At this point the broadband also failed so we were without internet. On Monday we made the assumption that as it was a normal weekday, someone would come to the site office so we decided to go out. When we got back no-one had been to site. Tuesday was our checkout morning. People turned up to the site office when we were leaving. Needless to stay we were appalled with the service, lack of emergency communication, the restrictions we faced due to not being left keys to the property and cleanliness. It was a complete nightmare.
