Great views, very comfortable beds, and brilliant showers. Just what is needed in any holiday cottage.

The oven was a bit complicated to use but sorted when we found the instruction book

A wonderful stay at Goodleigh. Having never stayed there before we were excited to see what the place and location has to over.

The place overall was very clean and tidy. It’s been furnished with very high standards. A couple of things to bear in mind: 1, theres no Microwave. Its a combi one we never used it so can’t comment on how good it is. 2, the induction hob will only work with there pans, so if you can your own they won’t work like we have one frying pan for our holidays.

The best cottage we have stayed in.

On arrival, the house had not been prepared for guests most notably the outdoor space. We arranged and cleaned the garden furniture ourselves which you don’t want to be doing on arrival and we cut back the overgrown and overhanging brambles and swept the deck. With such lovely weather we wanted to be outside as much as possible. The windows and sills were dirty but at eye level so you couldn’t ignore it, the railings had a thousand cobwebs the whole place needed an external clean or a jet wash. The deck is outside, level with the living space so it’s an extension of the house when the weather is nice. We complained straight away and they sent someone the next day on a bank holiday Monday to deal with the majority of the issues we listed. They weeded the front of the property too which was in need. The washing line was broken but they left a clothes horse dryer. Inside, the house is lovely, beds were SO comfortable, bed linen and towels were of a high quality, couldn’t fault inside at all except the house hadn’t been staged for our arrival, cushions were on the floor and table coasters under the coffee table with information booklets. It seemed like it was a new rental and they had no experience with welcoming guests. A window cleaner turned up on day 2 (though he couldn’t get the to the upstairs back of the property because we went out) the village is quiet with not much to do without getting in the car. The beach is a good 30 min drive away. The pub over the road has the best food we’ve eaten in a while, and would highly recommend a visit but it only opens 5 days a week so check times. The views from the property are beautiful. Overall I would recommend this property they just need a better guest preparation process.

We had a lovely stay at Goodleigh Cottage and would be very happy to return there again.
The location was just a few miles from Barnstable, ideal to pop into town but giving you that secluded location feel.
My boys loved the upside-down layout with comfortable beds, a lovely open-plan lounge and a kitchen which had brilliant appliances.
The location is perfect for a visit to the amazing beaches nearby and other attractions.
A lovely welcome gift on arrival just topped off the visit.

We spent a week at the cottage which was very well maintained and spacious for our party of 5, the location is stunning, very well positioned to be able to all get to all corners of Devon.

The open plan living area is very well designed which ensures that everyone feels included in conversations and activities.

The Kitchen is to a high spec with all the essential equipment which gives you the option to cook a full Sunday roast or just pizza and chips.

Bathrooms are very spacious with a great shower.

The decking area was a lovely space to sit having breakfast or dinner whilst enjoying the countryside views.

All 5 of us feel this is the best value for money accommodation we’ve ever booked.

We can’t recommend this cottage highly enough and would like to thank everyone for making our Holiday fantastic.

We love north Devon and really enjoyed our recent stay at Goodleigh Cottage, which had everything we needed for a thoroughly relaxing holiday with a chance to recharge and enjoy the simple things in life - quite an achievement considering 'we' included a middle aged couple, 2 teenage girls, our septuagenarian mum and a dog!

The adults enjoyed the peaceful and beautifully still evenings with drinks and crisps on the terrace, watching the hay being gathered in the fields opposite, while the teenagers made the most of the games and TV options (all facilities in the cottage were brand new and covered everything we needed).

We had lots of busy and memorable day trips to beaches (once we'd checked which were dog-friendly - lots of them) including our favourites Putsborough and Barricane beaches, and enjoyed the retro and arty but chilled feel of Appledore with coffee shops, fish and chips and book shop. Also appreciated the chance to play cards in the pub gardens, the Westleigh Inn was a lovely spot. Our teenagers even found a skate park and crystals shop in Bideford. We slept like logs in the comfy bedrooms.

The only proviso I'd add is that having our own car made all the difference, so we could explore a lot of the area (especially as we had lots of interests to cover in our party) but it depends what you're interested in. Having said that, the day we spent 'at home' we went on good country walks as the cottage is surrounded by public footpaths. The week before we arrived we booked dinner in the local pub which we all enjoyed - so if staying closer to home I'd recommend booking well in advance (at the time of writing this booking this was essential).

A lovely family holiday really enjoyed by all of us, thank you

Accommodation was very good. Clean and a good base for travelling around North Devon. Nothing much to do locally, would have been nice to at least had a local shop to walk too. So take basic essentials with you!
A good tip, book pub in advance if u want to eat or drink there. When we arrived it was booked up for over a week so unfortunately couldn’t use.
Beds comfortable and upside down living was novel. Kitchen well equipped. If you want to walk from cottage be warned it’s very hilly. Very narrow windy lanes which we’re not used too.
Main downside for us was not having an airing cupboard or radiators to dry towels on. Weather was a bit wet on days so this was a bit if a problem for us.
But all in all we had a good week.

Excellent

The cottage was in the perfect location for our needs. Nicely furnished and with good quality throughout and very comfortable. Close enough to everything needed - shops, walks, beaches - but away from the August traffic heading to the beaches at this time of year. Would definitely stay again.
