Surrounded by beautiful rolling Devon countryside, The Byre is a stunning barn conversion which sleeps 6 in three lovely bedrooms. It is set on the edge of the popular North Devon village of Goodleigh and is a short walk to the renowned pub The New Inn, famous for good food, ale and lively atmosphere. The cottage is perfectly located to enjoy the delights of North Devon being almost exactly 20 minutes drive from the wilds of Exmoor or the long , sandy beaches at Saunton Sands. So the family can enjoy a great day on the beach and then escape the crowds and retreat to your own piece of Devon heaven. You can easily reach the coast at Saunton, Croyde and Putsborough one way or across to Westward Ho! and the pretty villages of Appledore and Instow in the other direction.

Just returned from a week at the Byre. Very nice property, well positioned for exploring North Devon.

A nice spacious holiday home, in a scenic quiet location, with friendly host. Was great to have 2 parking spaces, right next to the property and a small enclosed garden to let our dogs run around in and the welcome pack was a nice touch.
The level of cleanliness was a bit disappointing, all floors and surfaces has been thoroughly cleaned, but the walls and ceilings were full of spiders webs and spiders. So we spent the first 2 hours of our stay cleaning. The 2 couches were extremely soft and the kitchen tap constantly dipped. Also there was no toilet paper, luckily we had brought some with us.
Overall we did enjoyed our stay at the Byre and the location, with a few small improvements, it would be a perfect holiday home.

The cottage/barn conversion is a very well equipped and comfortable. The layout is good with a nice large dining table that we could comfortably sit around of an evening. The gardens were kept well and was a nice area to sit out in and for the dogs to play. The location is great, far enough away from Barnstaple to be quiet and secluded it also close enough to easily collect groceries etc.
The area surrounding The Byre is beautiful and I strongly recommend the walk through to Two Rivers along the track directly below the cottage.
My only criticism would be the pillows in the bedroom were far to soft for me and caused me some problems getting comfortable at night, I’m used to a fairly firm pillow so this is obviously just personal opinion!
The only other issue was the shower screen was very stiff to operate but it didn’t prevent us from using it.
The proprietor was a nice, helpful guy who stopped for a chat when we saw him.
All in all a very nice, comfortable holiday let that I would recommend highly.

Property great, pub a let down.

This was a great place for our stay. Comfortable warm clean and everything we needed. Excellent value.
Nothing to do with the property but twice we tried to book with the pub, the second time we tried on the Monday and first day we could go was Friday, we left Friday! Surely not all tables were booked all night, we just wanted an early evening drink.
BUT, this does not reflect on the Byre which was excellent . Thanks for a great week.

Hi Dave, thanks for the lovely review, much appreciated. Such a shame about the pub, it's the same for us, we can only ever go in now for a meal, I used love a couple of pints on a Fri evening and see who was in there, but that's all stopped. Cheers harry

Beautifully positioned in a quiet village with decent pub food nearby. It does need some travel to get to likely touring spots. The layout is very good, being a barn/byre conversion. It would be good to have a better shower facility in the main bedroom though, to avoid morning queues for the one that serves the rest of the house. there is a bath and shower attachment in the en suite but we never take a bath, only showers. The television when we were there had a bit of a mind of its own when trying to change channels and adjust the volume - we had to switch off and start again. Not sure if it's the TV or the remote with the problem. A minor thing though. All the appliances we used worked well and the kitchen was well equipped.
A very enjoyable stay.

The accommodation is very spacious with a very nice outside area. The bed was comfortable. However we were a bit disappointed on arrival that the fridge and freezer had not been switched on. We did not realise at first after having put food items in there. The sofas were so tired, you sank into them and struggled to get out of them. There were a few basics missing like tea towels etc. We enjoyed our stay but a little more care could be given to improve the standard.

Hi Steven, I have no idea why the Fridge was turned, obviously, we would not have done that deliberately, I can only think the cleaners did it by accident, why didn't you come and tell us. We always supply tea towels so again I don't know why they weren't there but again if you had asked then we would have happily provided you with some. Sorry about the sofas, no one has ever complained before so we did not realise but they are not that old. As we live close by it's easy for guests to speak to us if there is a problem so I wish you had come to see us. Harry
