Westwell Hall is a large and luxury holiday home in Ilfracombe sleeping up to 29 people in 14 bedrooms split over 4 floors. The large Victorian house is set on the hillside in Ilfracombe offering stunning sea views from the front facing rooms and is within walking distance down to the harbour. Perfectly for large family gatherings, hen parties or just a group holiday with friends, Westwell Hall comfortably accommodates you in the spacious lounge, functional kitchen and large dining room. The garden to the front of the house and side decking get plenty of sun if you fancy a day at the house rather than exploring the local beaches of Ilfracombe, Woolacombe and Croyde.

Great space for a large family gathering, but in need of maintenance and TLC

Our family recently stayed at this 15-bedroom villa, and overall, we had a good time together. The property is spacious, well-equipped for large groups, and offers fantastic potential. Still, our stay was marred by numerous maintenance and functional issues throughout the house that really need addressing.

The villa comfortably accommodates a large group and has plenty of living space for everyone to gather without feeling on top of each other. The outdoor hot tub was a highlight and well enjoyed, though having a canopy or sheltered cover over it would make a world of difference when it rains. The games room was also a fun addition, featuring a multi-use pool and air hockey table (though unfortunately, the power cable for the air hockey was missing, so we could only use the pool table).

The standard check-in time is 5:00 PM, which feels unusually late when planning for a large group. To their credit, because there were no guests the night before, they did let us know a few days before arrival that we could check in earlier at 2:00 PM, which helped. However, check-out was strictly enforced at 10:00 AM. Even though there were no incoming guests booked for that day or even the following day, they refused any leeway for a slightly later departure, which felt unnecessarily rigid.

Ahead of arrival, we were required to pay a £1,000 security deposit 8 weeks prior to check-in, which made very little sense. Having stayed in large holiday homes like this before, the standard policy is usually to take a pre-authorisation or deposit shortly before check-in or upon arrival, rather than holding such a large sum 8 weeks in advance.

There is a noticeable rising damp problem on the lower ground floor. The bedrooms down there felt uncomfortably wet and clammy—to the extent that fresh toilet rolls stored in the rooms absorbed moisture and felt damp to the touch.

While it's great that most bedrooms feature en-suite bathrooms, the plumbing was very inconsistent. Several toilets struggled or failed to flush properly. The showers were unpredictable—some only delivered scalding hot water with no cold balance, while another ran completely cold with no hot water at all.

The property is showing its age and suffered from several small defects. A few windows had cracked panes, and during a heavy downpour, part of the older Victorian-style window coving actually deteriorated and fell apart, which we had to report.

It is a lovely house at its core, and we still managed to make great memories. However, the sheer number of small faults and the damp issue mean the property currently feels a bit neglected. With some serious maintenance, proper plumbing repairs, and a bit of care, it could easily be a 5-star venue.

We had a lovely stay! The house is in an idyllic location overlooking Ilfracombe. The location to the coastal path was perfect. We had an amazing weekend. Would definitely recommend this house for large groups. There was a mix up with the cot (it was missing); however, the house keeper team tackled it quickly and got us a new cot within the hour. This gave us a lot of confidence that any other issues would be dealt with quickly and efficiently. We had no other issues though! :)

Westwell Hall was perfect for our family holiday as there was plenty of space for our group of 20. It was great that we could walk into Ilfracombe and beaches.
You can access the coastal path immediately behind the property with it's spectacular views.
The house itself has plenty of room and almost all of the rooms are en-suite. There was a nice space to eat together in the conservatory with a great outdoor space for games and a BBQ.
It was handy having two kitchens as the main kitchen is a bit small for 20 people but we managed well.
We had some fun nights in the bar, it was nice to be able to get together for pre-dinner drinks.

We stayed at Westwall Hall for our parents 80th birthday celebrations. We had a great time. The house is really big & had enough rooms to accommodate us all. I liked how the bedrooms are all individually decorated & most have ensuites. The whole place is in need of a bit of TLC though. Some of the fixtures were broken, paint peeling off walls, stained carpets, broken wardrobe, lots of lightbulbs/bedside lamps not working etc. Some of the rooms radiators weren't working making for a chilly night sleep in late September. The patio area off the dining room was run down & cordoned off.
The hot tub was a big hit.
It's close to town & easily walkable but be prepared it is a big hill on the way back. Conveniently close to a beautiful cliff path.

Beautiful house in a wonderful setting with some really great views. On the whole we had a very good time and the bedrooms were very nice. Had to repair two showers and only one induction saucepan. The house is really a gem and would need just a little more care with a few things that would need to be a little refurbished. I would highly recommend it.

We had extended family together of 23 in total staying at the property. Plenty of space for all of us. The views are amazing and the property has large spacious rooms.
