We loved our stay at Slatehouse Cottage- helped by mostly beautiful warm weather. The views from every window were vibrant green and the house had a calming effect on us. We are keen walkers and really enjoyed the Castle trail, especially the Arwen Trail with its superb view of the Castle from above. We enjoyed the riverside walk along the Nith to Burnmouth and back by the lane, appreciating the beautiful colours of azaleas along the way. The cottage was comfortable and easy to live in. We enjoyed eating outside once Gillian brought us a parasol.

This is a really comfortable place to stay and very well equipped. We loved the view from the garden and the peace. Most of the time, the car stayed put and we made good use of the walking and cycling trails. It was great to be able to go for a woodland stroll in the evening. Although the castle itself and café were closed we had free access to the gardens and had a coffee there.
Excellent place, spotlessly clean, equipped with everything you need, lovely walks around the estate & castle gardens, will definitely be going back.
Faulty smoke alarm woke me up on last night of stay at midnight. After reset, alarm went off every 7 minutes. Called out of hours number which diverted to another number and was not answered despite several attempts. By 1am the noise was unbearable so had to pack up my dogs and all my gear and leave, driving through the night to get home - not a pleasant experience. Still waiting for compensation from Drumlanrig. The Stableyard Studio provided fantastic accommodation for a last-minute weekend away. Despite its size it has everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. And as for the location beside one of my favourite castles? Perfect - I've already booked a return visit!
