Our stay was 2 families of 4 meeting in this great location and utilising Slatehouse Cottage. I was familiar with the area and had always admired the location of Slatehouse Cottage. I was very impressed with the conversion works to create the holiday cottage. The freedom of walking in the parkland/policies and alongside the River Nith was great. We did the castle tour and enjoyed the adventure playground lots. The children thought the bike ride from Rik's Bike Shed was great with a tandem tag-along being available. We gave this accommodation top marks because of its situation inside the grounds of the castle, the high standard of furniture and decoration and the level of cleanliness throughout. Unfortunately, we arrived just as their facilities ie: cafe, gift shop, access to the castle were closing for the season so couldn't get the full enjoyment that is on offer at this estate. Sign posting for various amenities and customer service was limited thus creating confusion on where they were located.

Cosy, peaceful, delightful stay in this 3 bedroom property. If your looking for beautiful scenery, walks and calming surroundings, this should be your go to destination.
Found the bed uncomfortable but apart from that great location for a break! We have visited loads of times it’s quite a favourite! Nice to be able to stay!
This was the second time that my best friend and I have stayed here. The cottage is luxurious and beautiful and has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. We were surprised that even more updating has been done - we thought it was fabulous last year but there's new furniture (fabulous brand new chesterfields) and the kitchen and bathrooms have been completely refurbished! Please note - the gates have been freshly stained so take care leaning over them to hook them closed! The location so close to the castle is great for walking although our usual trails have been largely closed due...more
