The Neidpath Castle group of five holiday stays, offers comfortable, interesting places to unwind and from which to explore the beautiful Scottish Borders.
This house is better than any other holiday home we have ever stayed in! It is truly wonderful with the most breath-taking views out of every window! Everything has been thought about and is nye on perfect! We were trying to think of anything to make it better…. A warm towel rail! And then I saw the switch literally 10 minutes before we left! So as I said, it has everything! Take your bikes and explore! It’s wonderful!
This is our go to spot for visiting family in Peebles. We have stayed in Barnes Library which is great if another couple is joining you. We opted for Barnes Bothy as it was just the two of us this trip. It did not disappoint. Cosy little place and we were provided with a welcome assortment of supplies on arrival. Although it is out of the town, it is not that far (10mins) and the reward is well kept garden, lovely views and walking opportunities. Looking forward to a winter visit and the log burner !
The Barns Library has been beautifully designed and furnished and is in a perfect location to explore the Tweed Valley. It's reasonably well equipped and is basically clean but would benefit from deep spring clean to get rid of all of the cobwebs and maintain a high standard. Unfortunately for us there was building work taking place throughout our stay. The Barns Library and the courtyard is also a key working part of the Neidpath Estate and so we were woken up by 7:30am, (8:20am on bank holiday Monday) either by the building contractors or people working on the estate (strimmers etc). My wife and I both enjoyed our stay at Barns Tower. We were looking for something unique and different for our 30th Wedding Anniversary. And we got it.
We loved the authenticity along with the mod cons to make the stay comfortable. Peaceful is a word often used but we really found it here. The supplies left were a lovely thought too.
Peebles itself was lovely to visit, very friendly and we had a lovely meal at the Crown.
The evening was spent with a nice bottle of champagne and a roaring fire after another lovely meal at the Peebles Spa Hotel.
All in all we had a fabulous time.
The Barmkin has a wonderful location within the grounds of the castle and a garden overlooking the river - a real sun-trap. There was a generous welcome pack of fruit, bread, milk, tea and coffee and the kitchen was well-equipped. There is a steep path down to the river and it's a pleasant 1km walk into town.
We were there for a cycling holiday and there are several spectacular routes on very quiet roads. The Tweed Vallet Trail is traffic-free.
I would thoroughly recommend The Barmkin for a place to stay.
