Fabulous accommodation! Hosts were great. Worth every penny! We booked the cottage and the Hall and it all was just perfect
From start to finish Sam, Vicky & team provided an exceptional 5* guest experience, so warm, friendly, helpful, efficient & the detailed information provided in advance to have the best time was so helpful. As for the accommodation - well, just a perfect woodland retreat, so warm, cosy, well furnished & maintained to a high standard. The location and secluded woodland was just perfect & pretty central to lots of great places of interest to visit during our stay. Had a wonderful time - would def recommend Wooden Star Cottages - 10/10!
We hired Hexham house as a family. We had exclusive use of the 7 apartments. All apartments were beautiful & individual. We particularly appreciated the goody bag with local produce & the milk & Prosecco left in the fridge. Hexham House is in a fabulous location right in the centre of Hexham with bars shops & restaurants on the doorstep. We would highly recommend & will definitely be back in the future.
I hired West Grange Hall for my 30th birthday weekend and it was perfect. Exactly like the pictures. Each room was more beautiful than the pictures online. The space was perfect for the 20 capacity. We all managed to fit in each room, afternoon tea in the lounge, yoga in the library, dinner on the Saturday evening in the main dining room. Sam was very gracious and polite about an issue that arouse and sorted it with me directly quickly, efficiently and with understanding. The cottage is just lovely, it has quality furnishings, the design of the lay out is excellent. The first floor was ideal for socialising and every room had a toilet closeby. We were 3 couples and this was very important. The cottage was decorated tastefully for Christmas and the welcome pack was a lovely surprise.
I know Hexham well, so knew the building and its' location prior to booking. The flat is super, comfortable and practical. Great to have a washing machine. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need utensils etc; It was great to have a welcome pack with tea, coffee, biscuits. The bed is really comfortable. Only a slight hitch with the shower head which had been forced and risked breaking if I changed the height, when I informed Sam she came and adjusted the height for me on the same day on which I contacted her. This is the 7th time we've stayed in the beautiful restored Hexham House overlooking the stunning gardens and bowling green of the park. As usual very high standards of cleanliness are maintained and the apartment contains everything you need for a wonderfully comfortable stay. We always stay a week as there is SO much to do in the surrounding area either walking, cycling, public transport or in the car. Sam and Vicky of Wooden Star cottages do a fantastic job, always easy to contact and the bag of local treats is also welcome. Thanks ladies and looking forward to our 8th stay!! ⭐️
Our second visit and as good as the first. Great facilities with a room and en-suite each and plenty of room for socialising, cooking and eating together. Couple of points: The downstairs toilet in Steadings 2 doesn’t flush properly. Heaters in The Byers 1 & 2 need attention as not all were working. Mirrors in bedrooms for hair drying etc would be helpful. We loved it again. And we even got the dark skies too!
This was our second visit to Fieldhead and won’t be our last, absolutely stunning location, comfiest bed ever and so cosy. My Labrador absolutely loves it here also. Booking again ASAP!
Lovely, comfortable,clean and warm cottage in rural location. The (very) nearby Boe Rigg campsite and restaurant was closed which was great from a light pollution perspective. A large patio area to set up the telescope on and great dark skys. Super customer service from Wooden Star Cottages.
Three families on our annual getaway together. We normally travel to the Lakes, the highlands or Wales, but fancied somewhere different this year. Hollin House ticked all the boxes. If you’re looking for somewhere touristy close to towns, shops and restaurants then this isn’t the place for you. If you prefer serene comfort situated miles down single track lanes where sheep and cows wander aimlessly, where the evenings are filled with bats, owls and billions of stars, then you couldn’t ask for a better location. We will, without question, be back!
Terrific location in a lovely warm and comfortable apartment. I know Hexham well and found the peaceful location wonderful. Hope to visit again soon.
Everything required for a comfortable stay. Even a slow cooker, and set of kitchen scales so I was able to do some baking.

We stayed at the Woodworkers cottage for a long weekend in December. We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage and found the owners to be very accommodating for us, providing stair gate and high chair. The cottage was nicely furnished and had a log burner with wood and firefighters provided. We would definitely look to stay again when we next visit Northumberland.
Lovely in all aspects but a shame the shower was underpowered and over hot. It didn't distract from the comfort but expected better
One of the best locations you could ever have a gathering in. The space is truly palatial - no photos will do the ceiling height justice. Sam from Wooden Star was excellent at providing instructions and very responsive throughout the whole process. We were extremely lucky with the weather and managed to get some walking done on the nearby trails, conveniently to the pub! The castle provides lighter paper and wood for cosy fireside whiskey and boardgames if it’s raining. We will absolutely be back to stay at Beaufront again.

Great location, with the Abbey and the town's centre and best F&B outlets all within easy walking distance. The property was clean, warm, comfortable and well equipped.
This is our 2nd stay at the Steadings for 3 generations of our family. Yet again a great weekend…comfortable, warm, peaceful and well cared for. Excellent value and great location. We certainly will be booking next year…grandkids can’t wait!
Only drawback was that the footpaths were hard to find. Otherwise we had a great stay and loved the views.
These cottages and the barn were perfect for our wedding. Sam and Vicky were brilliant in helping us with our queries and we were delighted with how it all went in the day. It is in a beautiful location and all of the rooms and surrounding outdoor spaces were perfect for us and our guests.
Stayed at the Studio for two nights to attend a nearby wedding - would love to come back to explore the area. The apartment has everything we needed and is really clean and comfortable, ideal for two people. Lovely quiet location in beautiful countryside.
We had a fabulous stay at Drum Barn. It’s a great house in a beautiful location with everything that we needed. Plenty of bathrooms, very comfy beds and spacious cooking and dining areas. Would go again.

Our family of 6 adults and 4 children spent the weekend here for a nearby wedding. Shellbraes had everything we needed plus more. Very comfortable, well equipped and with amazing 360 views of the surrounding countryside. There was room for us all to spread out and the children loved the playroom. Its remote location means a long drive down a lane to reach it and the welcome pack was well received. Shop before you go!
No 2 The Byre was a wonderful quiet place to stay with my dog Norman. The accommodation had everything we needed and was peaceful and secure. Would definitely stay again.
The Stables is a very comfortable cottage in a great location. It was very peaceful and we looked forward to seeing the sheep and ducks when we opened the curtains each morning. It is within 30 minute drive of a number of Hadrian Wall attractions and Hexham which was worth a visit. The Welcome bag from Wooden Star Cottages was a nice surprise.
From the moment I arrived at Charlton Gate, I felt completely at home. The property was immaculately clean, beautifully maintained, and full of thoughtful touches that made my stay truly special. We were in the area for a wedding so The Hayloft was an ideal place for our three families (8 people) to stay. Had everything we needed and is in lovely part of the country. WIFI wasn't great but that wasn't an issue for us (it may be for others). Would certainly return if the opprtunity arises.
