Everything was just perfect. The service, the treehouse, very comfortable and an amazing romantic escape.
This is the second time we have visited The Steadings and we are already planning our third visit. We arrived to some lovely welcome gifts (Fresh Northumberland coffee, Beers, jam, chutney and biscuits) which were all locally sourced. The accommodation is extremely clean and well kept. It is like a home away from home.
We recently stayed in Hexham House Apartments during our wedding in June, we had exclusive hire of all 7 apartments and each and every one of them was equally beautiful and very comfortable, our guests loved them, it made it so easy to have all of our guests together in the same place for 2 nights. Parking was easy and it was lovely for our guests to have so many places to walk to just a few minutes away. We would definitely recommend and I hope we get to return sometime. Thank you to Sam and Vicky for making everything run so smoothly.
Great appartment (6) and location. All modcons were there. Everything in Hexham within walking distance. Highly recommended.
Our time at West Grange Hall was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the peaceful surroundings, beautiful grounds, and the characterful charm of the house itself. Every detail had been thoughtfully considered, creating a perfect blend of comfort and elegance. The rooms were spacious, spotless, and tastefully decorated, with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. We especially loved the garden views and the serene atmosphere—ideal for a restful escape from the city. The hosts were incredibly responsive and went out of their way to ensure we felt com...more
We recently had a two night stay at the apartment and from excellent communication before staying to the stay itself everything was great and would not hesitate to book again. Many thanks.
Our second visit and as good as the first. Great facilities with a room and en-suite each and plenty of room for socialising, cooking and eating together. Couple of points: The downstairs toilet in Steadings 2 doesn’t flush properly. Heaters in The Byers 1 & 2 need attention as not all were working. Mirrors in bedrooms for hair drying etc would be helpful. We loved it again. And we even got the dark skies too!
Where to start! We hired Beaufront Castle through Woodenstar Cottages for our micro-wedding on 14/05/2025, and it was nothing short of magical. The castle itself is absolutely stunning – a gothic masterpiece nestled in the Northumberland countryside, full of history, character, and charm. Our group consisted of bride and groom plus 14 of Ur closest family and friends, all of which were comfortably accommodated in the castle’s eight beautifully appointed bedrooms. Each room was unique, massively spacious, and immaculately presented – you truly feel like royalty staying here! The views over t...more
Felt instantly at home. Everything was clean and of good quality. Perfect family holiday with granny
The Coach House offers immense character, comfort and a beautiful location, a few miles from Kielder Water and Forest in what for the UK, is a remote corner of Northumberland. The lovely owners are close by, supportive but not intrusive and the house provides space for up to 6 people. Huge walled garden ideal for the most active of dogs. The nearest shops and eateries are a couple of miles, although we went further afield to eat. Bouchon Bistro in Hexham is a must and Bewicks in Rothbury if you venture to Cragside (NT). Walking/cycling locally, sailing on Kielder Water and within easy re...more
Stayed 2 nights in the Steadings with 2 couples, 3 kids aged 9 to 13. The linked cottages filled the bill as it was roomy, well equipped and quiet. The Boe Rigg restaurant and pub on site was great too as was the craft/ gift shop.
Fieldhead is in a great location, the view is to die for! The cottage is lovely and homely, everything was very clean and the bed was so comfortable. My dog loved the big garden and the walk up to the private lake which was beautiful. I’m just about to book again! Thanks wooden star cottages.
Stayed at Hollin house with my adult children. Found amenities very good, amazed at the long single road to reach it but gave us the sense of peace being quite remote but still 10 minute drive to a village. I’d certainly stay again in this beautiful house
I’ve booked through Sam and Vicky for Hexham House a number of times now and wouldn’t hesitate to book again when I need accommodation in Hexham again. Excellent location and the apartments are 1st rate and always love the welcome pack. Thanks for another wonderful stay
The apartments are centrally located and provide everything you could need. Rooms were well laid out and appointed.
Beautiful place in a perfect location, very clean and even a goodie bag on arrival. The communication went smooth and I would highly recommend Thanks Aden
We stayed at the Woodworkers cottage for a long weekend in December. We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage and found the owners to be very accommodating for us, providing stair gate and high chair. The cottage was nicely furnished and had a log burner with wood and firefighters provided. We would definitely look to stay again when we next visit Northumberland.
I have no hesitation in recommending this lovely, very spacious cottage, everything is supplied to a high standard including a Nespresso coffee machine that isn’t listed. Lovely log burner for cosy nights and central heating too. Location is great and private, we would stay again if in the area.
We had a lovely week exploring Hexham and surrounding areas. The house has everything you would ever need when being away from home :) Everything is in walking distance and people at the Fox were very welcoming
lovely location in the shadow of Hexham abbey with excellent car parking facilities. Shower very small and rug in living room very stained.
My only criticism about the whole of the property is directed to issues for people with mobility problems. While some people with a physical disability will be able to enter the property from the front door, others may not, especially for wheelchair uses. The other problem I found was in the use of the bath when having a shower. Once the process was underway the surface of the bath underfoot became very slippery and I, as an able bodied person, found it difficult to retain balance. I would not let my wife, who has mobility issues, use the bath at all. Otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed our...more
Thanks Sam for your help and communication. All good. Lovely flat very well appointed, great lovation.
This place was perfect for a chilled few days away. Our fur baby also loved it. Communication before and during our stay with Vicky and Sam was great and the information they send about the place and area is spot on! I even managed to extend my stay with no issues! There’s a Lovely tea room just over the court yard with a gift shop and gallery and you can get beautiful food to eat in or takeaway from the restaurant down the gravelled path at the campsite. Can’t wait for my next visit x
We booked here as a group of 8 for my Mums's 60th Birthday and it exceeded our expectations in every way. The Drum Barn was beautiful and comfortably accommodated the 8 of us. We enjoyed sitting in the hot tub looking over the fields and a lovely Saturday morning walk. It was everything and more that we wanted for our lovely Mum and we all left feeling super relaxed and refreshed. The welcome Hamper with biscuits and fudge was a lovely addition. Thanks for having us!
We booked the cottages and big barn for a family celebration and it worked brilliantly. The kids and dogs could run around outside, the adults used the hot tubs. The party barn is excellent for outside caterers and a ceilidh. The setting is fantastic as is the location close to fantastic Northumberland scenery. Wooden Star were very helpful and easy to deal with. I would definitely recommend.
I've stayed here with my family a couple of times now and we always have a wonderful stay. The cottage is comfortable and cozy, with plenty of space for four people. Whilst it's on the edge of the campsite, the cottages are quiet and reasonably private. The enclosed outside space is fantastic if you're bringing a dog, and a great bonus if the weather is nice. Wooden Star have always been brilliant to book with too, Sam in particular has been very helpful and checked in via email during our stay to make sure everything was okay. The welcome package is a lovely touch, which we always enjoy.
No 2 The Byre was a wonderful quiet place to stay with my dog Norman. The accommodation had everything we needed and was peaceful and secure. Would definitely stay again.
The Stables is a very comfortable cottage in a great location. It was very peaceful and we looked forward to seeing the sheep and ducks when we opened the curtains each morning. It is within 30 minute drive of a number of Hadrian Wall attractions and Hexham which was worth a visit. The Welcome bag from Wooden Star Cottages was a nice surprise.
The farmhouse was in a lovely location, quiet and peaceful and we thoroughly enjoyed our week there with family. The house itself was very homely and welcoming, and we appreciated the nice touch of a welcome bag with local produce on arrival. There was just a few 'snagging' points that stood out to us throughout the week, which, if attended to would have made it the perfect stay. - Cleanliness Whilst on the surface the house was clean and tidy, the rooms did have a lot of cobwebs both on the ceiling, beams and in the corners of the rooms (under beds). We stayed in the end room (with th...more
We were in the area for a wedding so The Hayloft was an ideal place for our three families (8 people) to stay. Had everything we needed and is in lovely part of the country. WIFI wasn't great but that wasn't an issue for us (it may be for others). Would certainly return if the opprtunity arises.
